So the most significant bits I have read regarding Wii U that others may have missed:
Discs are 25gb in size (NOT BLU-RAY)
Internal Memory not detailed
The discs are 25 gigs? I hadn't heard that anywhere, but it's pretty cool. It's not huge, but it's a solid size. Games will eventually have to be using two discs, but the three or more disc games should be a loooooong ways off.
Internal memory, while not given in size, has been all but confirmed to be flash memory. While SD cards and USB HDD's can both be used for additional storage.
Why doesn't Nintendo love video discs?
Gamecube had those mini discs, the Wii can't handle DVD and the U will not play BluRay?

As was already said, the licensing fees for using Blu-ray are ridiculous. That's probably the biggest reason the technology isn't taking off all that well. Nobody other than Sony wants to touch it because it'd cost them too much.
The only reason it even still exists probably is because of lack of options to get movies in 1080p.
