For the last month, every monday just seemed to be so much more fun than usual.
Gintama Discussion
-
-
Watched 204. Loved the entire New Years card segment.
-
I just watched episode 205 and it was hilarious :D
ANPAAAAAAN
Is the anime better than the manga in terms of comedy? I want to check out Gintama mainly because of the humor. Should I watch the anime or read the manga for that?
I'm leaning towards the anime just because it has high quality subs, while the scanlations on Mangareader don't look that good and are incomplete.
Does the anime skip chapters of the manga?
So many questionsā¦ :P
-
No the anime doesn't skip chapters of the manga.
-
Glad this anime is back. It's a guarantee that every episode has me constantly cracking up
-
Episode 205 was pretty damn good.
-
I was a little let down with the last episode.
It was good but not as good as the rest of the stuff we've seen recently.
-
I'm at chapter 13, but I want to start the anime.
So I'm wondering, what is the anime equivalent of chapter 13? -
@Sniper:
I'm at chapter 13, but I want to start the anime.
So I'm wondering, what is the anime equivalent of chapter 13?Thats a very difficult question, the anime tends to look quite liberally on canon, due to Gintama's episodic nature, they just tend to throw episodes about. Pretty sure I saw a chapter from volume 3 around 50 episodes in at one point.
So if you want to watch the anime, just started from episode 1.
-
Gotcha!
Thank you!
I'll see you guys in aā¦
Buncha hours! -
Make that days. XD
-
Yeahā¦
I can't get into the anime for some reason.
Continuing with the manga... -
@Sniper:
Yeahā¦
I can't get into the anime for some reason.
Continuing with the manga...If its the first two episodes that are bugging you there filler(and not very good filler as far as gintama filler goes) i'd suggest just sticking with it for a while since a lot of people tend to think the anime is better than the manga(me included).

I agree with madman.. (lol. i can't believe i'm agreeing with a madman) but the first 2 episodes are filler, but they are completely out of context with the rest of the anime seriesā¦ its starts getting funnier after on episode 3.. infact I think episode 3 starts at the beginning of the manga, although I'm not entirely sure cos I don't read the manga, although I probably should

You're absolutely correct!
@Sniper:
I'm at chapter 13, but I want to start the anime.
So I'm wondering, what is the anime equivalent of chapter 13?It should be a part of episode 13. Enjoy!
-
maybe the manga is better, but the scanlations are terrible and the fansubs, and crunchyroll itself, are great.
I'd stick with the anime unless you know a LOT of manga sound effects.
-
The anime is better imo. The manga is too wordy sometimes and the jokes are more effective when they are animated.
-
I'm currently on episode 174, I am going to be very sad once I catch up.
-
I'm going kind of random with the fun episodes, I need to watch de serious ones sometime. I've must watched around 40-50
-
The anime is good when it comes to comedy, however as of now it seems they edit the good action parts, like in episode 206 Gin says he's going to act like a deamon on the bad people and we don't get to see it. I really wanted to see that scene shoot, I hope they don't cut out some action scenes when we get to the good stuff.

Actually we didn't get to see it in the manga either so it wasn't edited at all.

Hmm Odd, hope they show him go crazy in the next big fight. That side of him is fun
-
Okay, I've been convinced again.
Thanks. -
We need another episode revolving around wartsā¦
-
Gintama works perfectly in both mediums. But anime has a magnificent seiyu cast and has a bit creative freedom, since it is behind the manga and usually can see how things turn out and use it for the best. Sorachi is an extremely talented mangaka, and he was blessed with similarly talented filming crew.
Only problem is that not enough people follow it.
I was a little let down with the last episode.
It was good but not as good as the rest of the stuff we've seen recently.
What are you talking about.
Kitchen infiltration was among the funniest moments of Gintama.

Yeah the dramatic music and set-up was classic, but that was only a tiny sketch. If that episode had a few more really good scenes like that then I would have been satisfied.
In fact that sketch kind of dwarfed any other humour in that episode and made the rest seem completely non existent. I guess it just seemed a little dull outside of the kitchen scene.
-
man, this has to be my all time fave anime~
this is a one piece forum thou:ninja:and yeah, i think the seiyuus are hahalarious (the ep where gin was "bound" by a ghost-thingy anyone?) and the subs are awesome. uh-oh, the soundtrack too! i remember how i was hesitant about watching it at first, and then after 5 eps i was forever hooked. the time i spent watching it brought me nothing but buckets of joy
rainbowsand laughter. (and some manly tears dammit ;A;) -
Nothing wrong with that. I love One Piece to death but it's not my most favorite anime; that spot belongs to Baccano.
New Gintama fan here. I'm slowly catching up, just got done with the Shinsengumi Rebellion arc in the anime. This series is truly a masterpiece and Sorachi is a comedic genius, and the anime is a very good adaptation of the manga, not to mention the stellar dubbing.
Benizakura arc cemented my love for this series. Just pure awesomeness.
-
Agreed. I just started watching Gintama as well, and I'm on episode 68. Its amazing. Its hilarious in its comedic moments, yet the serious moments are still powerful and awesome. Benizakura arc was epic
-
I've only read the manga, but I'm catching up. Yeah, this series is awesome. I love the dialogue, pacing, characterization, all of it. Granted, some parts do fall a bit flat for me, but for the most part, it maintains a very high quality. Gin in particular is one of the best protagonists I've seen in a shonen manga. All in all, one of my personal favorites.
-
If there is a thing I will nitpick on the series itself both the anime and the manga is that the humor is usually local, you need to know a bit of Japanese culture, celebrities, and current events to appreciate the gags.

Episode was pretty damn funny. The chuubert ass scene what just beyond ridiculous, but had me in stitches throughout. (Such an absurd group of assassins indeed)
As for the final fight with the glassesā¦.
.... words cannot describe.
-
God the music alone kills me! XD
..every villian should be introduced like that.
-
This show's absolutely hilarious, it's instantly become one of my favourite comedies ever. I got into it thanks to the 2 Sket Dance crossover chapters (should probably check Sket Dance out too since the crossovers were great) and watched around 150 episodes (still 50+ to go, Idk what I'll even do when I finish all of them, probably start over) in less than 2 weeks. The serious arcs create a nice contrast too, even though many of them are pretty mediocre story-wise.
Normally I'd never pick the anime over the manga, but the scans were pretty bad, and in the end the anime version turned out to be outstanding too - the animation, timing of the jokes, voice acting are all great, I fucking love it.
I'll probably end up putting on at least 5kg this month because all I've been doing lately's sit on my ass, munch on junk food and watch Gintama. And I won't regret a thing.
-
I was planning on putting off Gintama for awhile since Rumbel hasn't finished subbing episodes 150-201 yet. However, I was unable to resist the urge to watch the newest episodes and finally gave in. Just finished the timeskip arc and goddamn, what an amazing comeback. Shinpachi and his reactions had me rolling the entire two episodes.
Can't wait to catch up with the last episode very soon. I've read that the Kabukichou arc starts next week and I'm already pissing my pants in utter anticipation.
I personally think Gintama is easily one of the best shounen anime adaptations. Sunrise has done an excellent job with this series.
-
Episode 209 is out folks.
-
I'm kinda disappointed with the latest episode being filler (and mostly a rehash of old scenes to boot) since I was totally expecting it to be the start of the Four Devas arc.
So, uh, will there really be a second movie? I truly hope they're no longer trolling this time around coz a movie involving Gintoki, Katsura, Takasugi, and Sakamoto fighting together just screams awesome and badass.
Anyway the best part is of course the kickass preview for next week's that got me drooling.
-
This episode contains mostly used scene from the past and that trailer are from Jump Anime Tourā¦
lol, before we got into some action next week, they decide to troll us with this! But honestly, the most of Gintama's serious arc aren't that great... My least favourite are the Red Spider-something arc... But the anime always gives great animation for them so that makes me enjoy it more...
-
God this episode was so fucking briliant. The best scene:
! ā¦but he doesn't need the Sharingan to improve his image.
After all, Takasugi already has plenty of emo kiddie tendencies,.... -
New episode out.
Damn, Jirocho certainly is a badass. Next episode is probably a flashback judging from the preview. Can't wait to see how the Four Devas started out. They look friendly with each other in that picture shown during the ending.
-
The newest episode was just brilliant.
-
ā¦the humor is usually local...
yeah, but the nose-picking is understood by children all overā¦
-
I loved how they did Doraemon reference with the voice and all!
-
I loved how they did Doraemon reference with the voice and all!
see, i know nothing about doraemon, but it still has chuckle-worthiness for me.
sure, i could know about doraemon, but i suspect there'd be pain and anguish involved.
-
Gintama chapter 331 is out for anyone interestedā¦
Liked this chapter! If I remembered correctly, that Daigorou kid is also the one that makes observation on Madao back then...
Gin use random english words just to sound technical made me laugh! -
211 rocked. I'm really tempted to read the manga, but I think I'll resist the urge. I think it'll be worth it.
! It's times like this that I wish Gintoki didn't use a wooden sword
-
Wow.. Just wow.
And it's stupid to wish that Gin was a killer, the stupid thing cuts when it's needed, and it's against his character.
I wonder what the sword spirit think of this.
-
New episode was epic. The fight scene was nothing short of orgasmic.
Here's to hoping Otose doesn't die. D: I love that old lady.
-
What I find weird about this arc:
! Where are the shinsengumi, Katsura and Sachan while all this happened?
-
Wow, the anime really put their all when it comes to serious arcs!
When I read this on manga, I didn't really like it because it was too serious, different from the usual crazy fun that takes almost 80% of the seriesā¦
