The alien looks like piccolo from DBZ evolution and that fills me with rage. Other than that and the fact that some of the CGI looks pretty bad this seems amazing.
Ryan Reynolds is "THE GREEN LANTERN"
-
-
what I want to know is why the costume is CGI(at least it looks like it is), it just doesen't really look all that great, still can't wait to see this though.
-
He will still play as Deadpool, right?
-
OH GOD THIS MOVIE LOOKS CAMPY
….
What were they talking about when Hal Jordan says that being without fear "isn't him"?
-
i wasnt interested in this at all, as i am pretty sick of superhero movies, but the trailer sold me pretty well.
-
I'm not that familar with Green Latern but after seeing the trailer I think I'll give it a shot.
-
@bunshindattebayo:

He's said he's still interested, and the script is pretty much done from what I've heard.
I think the green light is still on for it.

He must be a man without fear. This version of Hal (I don't know shit about Hal Jordan) most likely has self doubts and/or fears of death/failure/losing someone, so he isn't 'fearless' as the Green Lantern should be.
In other words, motivation for the character to become a hero. You know, "With great power, comes great responsibility" and all that jazz? Personally, I like this one in contrast to Spiderman's.
-
Niiiiiiice.
And yes, it's campy. Green Lantern was never exactly a series that could be grounded in "gritty realism" ala Batman, or even Spiderman. It's got magical superpowers and aliens, they can't escape the campy.

I love Hal Jordan and this isn't him. Ryan Reynolds should have been playing Kyle Rayner as what was going on in this trailer was JUST LIKE HIM.
Hal Jordan is without fear because he experienced the scariest moment of his live when he was very young (his father dying) and put it behind him acting as if it almost never happened (opposite of Batman).
Niiiiiiice.

I was hoping it would more more similar to the feel of the new Star Trek movie.

I hope so. He did an awesome job as Deadpool in the X-men Orgins: Wolverine movie! :)
That is until they turned him into "Barakapool" at the end. :getlost:
-
Good job APforums, this is one of the few sites that aren't stupid in thinking that Jon Stuart is the only Green Lantern.
[HIDE]Still he's awesome but I like Hal Jordan![/HIDE] -
…that ain't Hal.
That's Kyle.
Like... everything aside from the testpilotingness.
I mean, I like Kyle a hell of a lot more, but yeah. :/
-
No no, it's not Kyle, it's Ryan Reynolds.
It's Ryan Reynolds playing Ryan Reynolds. As a test pilot.
-
Ah, I see.
Now it all makes sense.
-
Ehh…We'll see how it goes. I mean, this is only the trailer.
I'll save my full opinion/comparison until I see the full movie. -
I think the reason for the costume looking cgi is to try to make it seem more of a projection of the ring than just clothes. Which to be fair, is canon so I don't really think we can be mad about that since if the costume were just cloth looking it wouldn't technically be accurate. And when you look at it that way the cgi is more forgivable. Also I think a big part of the weird way it looks is that the symbol on his chest is clearly glowing, casting a shadow over the rest of it and making it look weirder. Anyway that's just my thoughts.

Eeee Sinestro~~~ <3
-
I can't wait to see Hammond…
I wonder if Sinestro will be a bad guy?
Ryan Reynolds did an intro in the GL: Secret Origins book, so I wonder if they'll follow that storyline?EDIT: Wait a minute--In the video where he says the oath, Blake Lively says that she can't wait to kick his butt as a villain...Will Star Sapphire be making an appearance?

From the stuff I heard: Sinestro will be a bad guy in the sequel (also Star Sapphire) and the plot is partially based on Secret Origins.

Ahh, so there will be sequels…
All my questions have been answered with one short post. :) -
New poster: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/Wolvie09/news/?a=34117
fans self I…need to lie down for a bit.

That man and his wonderful, wonderful ass.
Pretty good poster.

New footage description:
We saw 4 scenes. First was Abin-Sur piloting his ship and being attacked by Parallax - was awesome. Then he ends up on Earth, next scene was Hal talking with Abin while he was dying. Scene seemed choppy, but he gives him ring. Next was him saying oath for the first time, then he goes to Oa immediately. Then we see him talking with Tomar-Re on Oa with Geoffrey Rush's voice and a GREAT looking very 'alive' CGI costume that looks MUCH better than the first trailer. Then we saw Sinestro addressing the Green Lantern Corps down in the core of Oa. Not fully finished but was great. Lots of other alien GLs seen there as there's a huge crowd of thousand of GLs and lots that people will totally geek out about. Won't spoil which ones. That was it plus a little montage of extra footage. I think it looks awesome, way way more excited than I was before this. Expect to see all of this footage at WonderCon, as it seemed hand picked for Green Lantern fans.

Aaaaah.
-
I'm sure everyone's seen the Wondercon footage by now lol:
God, I love Mark Strong as Sinestro.
-
Holy shit! Look at the size of YouTube boxes now!
Anyway, the movie looks like a blast. Thank god for Ryan Reynolds, or I wouldn't have anything to get my sisters into watching it.
Sisters: NO! We're not watching a movie on one of the most boring superheros ever!
Me: It stars Ryan Reynolds.
Sisters: How many shirtless scenes? -
The CGI still gets on my nerves with the trailer. I get you need it with the vast amount of bizarre aliens that the corp is made up of, but it still just doesn't suck me in like a good superhero movie should.
-
Like many people I was never interested in the Green Lantern as a character, and the trailers for this movie don't really grab me either.
On the other hand, it has Martin Campbell directing, right? That can maybe kiiiind of get my hopes for a superhero movie that isn't just bland tropes and studio marketing.
-
After seeing that footage, I gotta say this one looks really promising.
Ryan is getting better. I think I can take him seriously in this role!
-
Am I the only one who thinks the CGI looks rather… budgety? This IS suppose to be a blockbuster, right?
-

I think it looks weird and all alien-y, which I love but it's also not done yet. From the Wondercon coverage where this was shown:
http://www.newsarama.com/film/wondercon-2011-green-lantern-movie-110401.html -
Wow, that footage was sweet. Consider me sold. Again.
-
The first trailer was meehh but this one looks awesome.
-
Haha, Hal's first try at the oath is funny, and I like the Machine gun lantern.
!! THE BLACK SMOKE MONSTER FROM LOST!!
-
The machine gun is fucking beast! My expectations skyrocketed after seeing this trailer.
Although, I want to see more of Sinestro in action. -
Sinestro kinda looks skinny to me…nah, maybe it's his head...like it's too small or something...that's just me, but I agree, JC.
-
Although, I want to see more of Sinestro in action.
Same. I love love love that I love Mark Strong's voice for him too. Like he sounds perfect to me ahhhhhh. <3
-
Mark Strong's best roles are when he plays the bad guy or the antagonist. I know he won't disappoint.
-
Oh yes. He's so damned chill and that hoarse/rough voice of him absolutely sends chills down my spine, especially when he's talking crazy.
-
This has a big stench of fail all over it.
-
No it looks pretty good. Hollywood has been slowly biulding up the public's tolerance for superhero moves for over a decade and the time is right to move straight into fantasy world with the Green lantern. I hope we get 2 sinestro fights in this movie.
-
New suit pictures: http://www.dailyblam.com/news/2011/04/12/green-lantern-images-ryan-reynolds-full-costume
I think the whole thing looks ace and I especially love the feet/boots.
-
The more I see the suit, the more I've come around to liking it.
The skintight CG thing actually works with the fact that the suit is made from the lantern's power, and the musculature look of it works with that too; the feet are pretty awesome. I love that all the suits look different depending on the Lantern's skin texture, as we saw with Tomar-Re and Kilowog.
The green looks a tad bright in Earth daylight (the first teaser we saw, with him in his apartment), but that's really nitpicky.
-
Yeah I'm really happy they didn't go with an actual cloth suit, because this whole light-construct aspect of it really fits with all the ring's other constructs and the alien technology feel of things. :)
-
I really don't like the way this film is looking at the moment.
That suit just looks horrible, I understand this whole suit is a part of himself and stuff but god damn can you tell its CG. Looks like a bad photoshop, pretty sure I saw the same level of this on fan edits when the film was first announced.
I dare say this is the final nail in the coffin for the more campy fantastic four style films.
-
Love the new poster:
!
I want that on my wall. -
Why not post Hal's too.
[hide][/hide]
-
I just recently watched the trailer. Have to say I wasnt really impressed by it esp with ryan reynolds and the suit. hopefully the movie is better
-
Have you seen the wondercon footage? If you don't like that then yeah you probably won't like the movie. But the official trailer is near garbage tier, don't judge the movie based off that.
-
That trailer does look pretty awesome. I was going to see this no matter what, but now I feel much more confident this will be good. I've been experiencing my Green Lantern renaissance lately, I've read quite a bit of Johns' stuff and DC: The New Frontier, so I think when written well Hal can be a good character. People at my school are also looking forward to the movie. I think this movie might just do to Hal Jordan what the Iron Man movie did for Tony Stark, although I won't count my chickens until they're hatched.
-
I really hope it does well (cause I love Hal and the rest of the Gls and there's such great potential for sequels since the Corps is so huge and gah getting to see Sinestro really shine as a villain would knock my socks off) but also because I think it would help pave the way for more DC movies about people other than Superman/Batman.
Ugh Jonah Hex, why were you so bad.
