Yeah, that probably would've been a better/easier idea.
Archie Comics to Publish Mega Man!
-
-
Wouldn't it have been easier to re-name the thread "Archie's Megaman and Sonic Comic discussion"?
sigh goodbye hater-free comic discussion >_>
You're being more negative and pessimistic than anyone actually in the thread at the moment.
Sonic doesn't inherently draw critique, if you pay any attention. Its lackluster past decade in all forms of media does. Most people talk pretty fondly of the early material and games, and a lot of the "hating" is constructive comparison to when it was good.
Its not hating on Megaman to say 8 wasn't as good as 2, is it? Or that 4, 5, 6 and 7 are generally pretty much forgotten compared to the first 3 due to their lack of creativity and innovation? Or that megaman in 3-D just doesn't really work as well? That part 9 was a true blue return to form and was great?
-
Did we read the same thread? Because the Sonic thread became so negative it became exhausting just to see it get bumped after awhile…
-
Since I was frequently on both sides of the discussion, giving both the positive and the "hating"… yes.
Any event, if you're that concerned about it, I'm more inclined to ban and thread ban over stuff than I used to be.
-
Did we read the same thread? Because the Sonic thread became so negative it became exhausting just to see it get bumped after awhile…
I have to agree with this. I was on both sides of the argument and frequently said about how I didn't think that most of the 3D games were nearly as bad as some people said but the negativity from most people on that topic AND the comics was more than overwhelming.
Also, I was gonna mention last night as well but it's interesting that other people should mention the same. Could this thread not just be renamed Video Game Comics discussion? …I mean theres a Final Fantasy general as well as seperate threads for Dissidia and the other spinoffs. Why cant we talk about the Sonic comics in more than one thread?
It's kind of hard anyway to have a thread about Archie Mega-Man without mentioning the artist and writer's previous works. Thats how we got on to the subject.
Everything was pretty civilised so why split it up?
-
I created this thread specifically to talk about the Archie Mega Man comics, not the Sonic comics. The only relation I have seen between the two is the involvement of Flynn and Spaziante. I could've easily have decided to post about the Archie publication in the Western Comics thread but decided not to because it'll just be swallowed up with talk about Deadpool, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Batman, Green Lantern, etc. thus making it harder to discuss with people about Mega Man in particular.
Besides, I have never read nor subscribed to western comics aside from a few archie titles back when I was a kid so this is my first official foray into monthly publications. I can't be bothered to wade through 12+ pages just to find someone's last opinion on a particular issue I've read.

ya..what's done is done though.

i gotta agree with this though. i just stopped bothering with that thread.

what!! have you played legends buddy? oh man. don't tell me no. shakes fist
-
I actually don't think I've played a new Megaman game in a very, very long time. I got the compilations for the original games and the X series, but probably not a whole lot from the last decade. And I never quite bothered getting through Wily's castle on some of those.
We need Megaman Soccer 2 dammit!
-
@RobbyBevard:
We need Megaman Soccer 2 dammit!
I'd play it.
-
The game was a neat concept but it was kinda lame to me. maybe cause i'm not a big sports fan. I own it though. :3
but man, you gotta play legends robby. i think you'd really like it. or at least play the side game "the misadventures of tron bonne" it's hilarious and fun.
-
I know people will probably hate me for this, but I really like the Battle Network and Starforce games. I'd love more of them. They're like the only ones I can beat xD
-
no. just me actually. most people seem to love the battle network series.
-
Battle Network I've heard good things about.
Not so much Star Force though.
-
Battle Network is awesome. 1, 2, 3 and 6 are the best and should get remakes that aren't made solely to advertise a new much less awesome series.
-
Covers for issue #4 are out:
Get your weapons ready! -
when is this coming out again?
-
At the end of this month the first issue comes out!
It looks as if they're utilizing the Clone Megaman boss as a plotpoint like Megamix did!!!
-
i don't wanna get a subscription, so I hope my local comic book store gets it in.
-
This comic is shaping up nicely. I love the art and there was an excellent interview in the new Nintendo Power.
i don't wanna get a subscription, so I hope my local comic book store gets it in.
If they don't, Barnes and Noble should almost certainly get it. They carry all the Archie titles at pretty much every location. It's the Marvel/DC titles that seem to be harder to find in issues. Except they aren't in Canada. Oops.
-
well i guess i can check out chapters book store. didn't think of that.
-
Cool. I'm kind of peeved that Spaz has taken such heavy influence from Hideki instead of developing his own style, though (coupled with the fact that Hideki is my least favourite official Mega Man artist).
I'm not expecting Ariga-level awesomeness, but i'm definitely interested in what they're gonna do with it.
-

This tends to be a cloudy issue. There are those who would rather prefer that an American comic artist develop his own style for the comic they're drawing for and then there are those who want to see the American artist adapt a style that is more in line with the original character designer's style. While both sides of the argument are justified in their views, it goes without saying that the majority of Mega Man fans can relate better to Hideki's style as it is the style they are more familiar with during the game's production run from the past two decades. Plus, business-wise, the publishers want a style that can attract the audience instead of pushing them away. Personally, I think they went with the better option to make the comic look close to Hideki's style while at the same time allowing Spaz to put his own spin on it.
That said, Archie Comics now has a blog up for the comic to which you can find here.
There is one post in particular that I found interesting and this is in regards to Mega Man's armor changing color:
@David:
One of Mega Man's special abilities is the "Weapon Change System," which allows him to copy different attacks and abilities from robots he has defeated. Changing to a new weapon bears an interesting side-effect, as the new weapon's energy system reacts with the special Light Ceramical Titanium which comprises Mega Man's armor, altering the colors of his appearance.
Well, go figure!
-
I love it!! ^^
-
Now I'm expecting an explanation as to why Mega Man can't import weapons from one adventure to the next.
-
maybe the energy adaption fades after a while? like, you can only use a light bulb so many times before it goes dead….
(i'm making it up as i go along, ok)
-
I'm sure Oxford will provide the official explanation but not until Mega Man's second mission.
And it turns out that the first issue is due out on shelves on May 4th.

BUMP
Preview pics are now up:

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSQQQQQQQQQQQQQQUUUUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE….............................................................
I've dreamed of this:wub:
I'm in love <333it. it. looks so beautiful.
-
Yes. Classic bots and buster use right away.
Also I like how the buster changes color. Shows the power comes from the buster even using the super arm.
-
Unnnnnnnffffffffff!!!!
-
Lovin' that art style! Though it's Spaz, so of course it's great. Also, I like how the Yellow Devil is designed after his Power Battle/Fighters incarnation!
Nice little subtle fanservice gag: Mega Man runs from, and avoids fighting, the Big Eyes. Just like every player did in Wily Stage 1 back in the day.
-
Flash animated trailer for the first issue
Dr. Light sounds like LittleKuriboh!
-
That is pretty swank! Nice touch there, Archie!
-
The release date has been moved to May 11th. Mark your calendars, everyone.
-
Got the first issue in the mail today!
It wasn't action packed being a flash back other then the sneak peak.
As suspected it a retelling of the first mega man game.
Best part was it had a lot of mega man references.
On the last page was an extra for panel comic that was worth a laugh.
Anyone want details?
-
No spoilers, foo', I wanna take that shit it. This Mega Man nerd's hype levels are maximum; I will have nothing inhibit the experience.
-
Oh Sweet deal X3
Finally Megaman comics for us english people XD
I can't wait to start reading! -

but we already know the story, so how is it spoilers.
"megaman shoots gutsman, he wins" knowing that he stopped for a soda along the way isn't going to matter. -
We don't know HOW it'll be told. Jokes, cool scenes, etc.
-
@Capt:

Not everyone is a subscriber, Haggis. Better leave the details till the 11th when the official first issue hits stands.

The first four issues will be a telling of the events that covered the first Mega Man game. Afterwards, if the comic is a hit, the series will continue with the second Mega Man game and so on including spin-offs.
P.S. According to the folks at the Mega Man Network and Bumbleking, the first issue is solid in both artwork and story so it's definitely worth the purchase and subscription.
-
i like to give a hard time. :3

I figured. But I'm the kind of person who when I see a show I like, I'll find out how it ends at wikipedia before I see the second episode. So why not ask, I can't be the only weirdo out there.

If you want, then post but use spoiler tags please.
-
Yea post them cause I want to see them and I don't go to town much. (not even once a month)
-
Picked up my copy of the first issue at my local comic shop today and just finished reading it.
Very very good stuff. If you're a Mega Man fan, you'll love this.

Ask and you shall receive.
Story:
! After the sneak peak were at a park where dr. light about to give a speech. Wily shows up and whines about not being on stage despite helping. It seems he already has a bad rep so light keeping his help quiet. Light gives his speech and a reporter asks about military uses like his work on sniper joes.
! That night Dr. Light and rock and roll talk about his goals with robots while wily sneaks in and does that voodoo that he do. Next morning the RM’s are gone and rampage on the news. After wily gloats on tv rock volunteers. One upgrade later he names himself mega man after his mega buster.References: A lot that I saw.
! The reporters at the speech are from various games such as legends, battle and chase, and I believe zero 4.
Extra points for the use of a 8-bit sprite!
While explaining the robot masters their heads appear in the boss select boxes around lights head.
The sweat looks like when mega man was holding a boulder over his head
The legends reporter gives here name as … Li with channel 8. Was that her name from legends or a reference to chun li being a reporter in mega man 9?
In the mini comic at the end he rock asks if he’s a “super fighting robot” which was half the theme song from the cartoon.
Also in the mini comic he box art mega man. What I liked and what was weird.
! I liked the uses of super arm and the testing of charge shot. Can’t wait for a more action packed issue.
Roll wearing classic dress despite that mm8 dress on the cover.
Wasn’t expecting that B&C Reference since it never came out in usa.
Sweat looks a lot like tears takes some getting use to.
Dr. light waited to change after being told the RM’s were missing?
Bit weird that he already has charge shot. -
! I definitely liked the little banter between Wily and Light at the beginning. Although, Wily's sinister appearance just came off as a little too goofy for me. It's like he wants us to see that he's the "Grr, grr! I'm the villain! GRRRRRR!!!!!"
! I also liked the little bit on Light's past on the construction of Sniper Joes and how he hates to use robots for the purposes of war. It looks like a plot point that may get touched up on later. Possibly next issue since those who played the game are aware of the Sniper Joes in Bomb Man's stage.
! However, when Rock volunteered to retrieve the Robot Masters after their reprogramming, Dr. Light just seemed to agree wholeheartedly on having Rock do the job despite his hatred for using any robots for war purposes. I expected Light to hesitate more before giving in to Rock's pleas.
! The RM's had their head shots look like the stage select icons from the official game. Nice touch.
! Loved the cameos by Ripot, Plum, and Neige. Also loved the other CAPCOM easter eggs as well.
! Light Labs must have the worst property security system I've ever seen if Wily was able to just waltz in and reprogram the RMs like it's no big deal. :getlost:
! Roll is just adorable.
! The Mega Buster has a charge capability? It really shouldn't be getting that capability until the Cossack arc. However, I reserve full judgement until the next volume.
! No Rush! Boo! Tsk tsk, Spaz! Shouldn't put characters on the cover that don't have an appearance in the official comic!
! Finally, the 'Short Circuits' comic. LOL @ Rock being turned into the Bad Box Art Mega Man from the first Mega Man game! Great job, Chad!So yeah. That's my review so far. I'll read the comic again tomorrow to see if there are other things I missed out on the first time. But so far, the comic is definitely a good read.

I subscribed as well, but… I have yet to get the first issue. =(
I subscribed on like the 1st of May though, in case that may be a factor. I'm waiting in anticipation!

! I think its because light considers rock less a robot then his son.
! Well Wily is Light's partner so I would expect him to be in and out with out problems. Though the damage to the lab was a bit much, still I guess it had good sound proofing to make bomb man.Maybe. I subbed months ago. Just give it time.

Same here. I subscribed in early March, but still haven't gotten my issue. I'm used to it, though. I tend to get my Amazing Spider-Man issues a week or so later than the comic shop.
