Bump-
I found a DL link for the live action movie subbed, if anyone wants it let me know and I'll link you.
@'[[\0_0/:
/]_Spider;1407207']i heard a anime called "One Outs" is sort of like Kaiji/Akagi
According to the author of One outs Main character Toguchi was inspired by Akagi.
This is a really great manga, although I do not like the part where Kaiji plays majhong.
They made a movie version of Kaiji but in my opinion it was really bad, trying to put so many things in one movie.
anyway I heard they are making another movie of Kaiji I hope it is good
anyway I heard they are making another movie of Kaiji I hope it is good
I would rather have a second season for the anime.
Unfortunately, that's not happening until Madhouse gets its finances straight.
Kaiji is better off never getting a second season.
The series just downgrades into "Kaiji just flat out survives forever and continues to be a dumbass and still find ways to fall on his face" and it becomes kind of contrived, as if he has to be kept down constantly, or at the very least, hard to accept.
The success of Kaiji has probably hurt its quality, as sad as it is to say. It feels artificially kept on. It's not even like it's been running long, it's just he somehow found a way to make it feel like it has been going on too long. I think it's a bit middling in terms of his series, but Zero is probably the better thing Fukumoto is working on in terms of wacky games run by a fucking goofball old rich man. If Kaiji was on hiatus instead of Zero I'd probably be happier.
Although if that's seriously how Zero ends it will be the funniest ending ever.
! HEY GUYS I TRAPPED YOU IN A CAR AND SENT YOU OFF A CLIFF HAHAHAHAHA
! … WAIT DID YOU GUYS JUST DIE
! WHAT THE FUCK I DIDN'T EXPECT THAT
! Zaizen frowns
! Bad End
I don't even know what to say about Akagi.
Great series but man end them, or find a way to salvage Kaiji.

Sorry for bringing up the bad news then
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-01-26/kaiji-gambling-manga-gets-2nd-tv-anime-series
I pretty much wrote the entire Wikipedia article, so I know what's to come in season 2 and Holy's right about it not being up to par with the first series. In particular, I've been told Pachinko Swamp isn't very realistic (not that I have first-hand knowledge of pachinko). But it's still awesome, and we get to see Kazuya and Mikoko (har har har). Better late than never.
Zawa Zawa!
This is so awesome, I think I could cry T_T
I agree that the second season isn't as awesome, there are fewer social commentary and, yeah the pachinko game was a bit… well, you'll see for yourself. But still, I really enjoyed reading it, and I am glad to see an anime adaptation for this second season.
The only problem about Pachinko part was that it was too Long.. and after that we have Majong part which I do not know the rule..
I actually really liked the pachinko part, but yeah it was really, really freaking long.
Some time ago I read Gambling Emperor Legend Zero and loved it. Now I want to read another Fukumoto work that's similar and Kaiji seems like the one.
But
only first 3 chapters scanlated…
god damn it...

Yeah, since there is an anime for the 13 first volumes, the scanlator didn't think it was useful to scan them. So if you want to start Kaiji, you will have to watch the anime first.
Speaking of akagi, did the manga ever finish that match he had with blood-bank man?
Washizu? Nope. But I heard they keep monstrously upping the ante to astronomical levels. And the things that happened in the last two rounds make the first four look like shit (and the first four were pretty great on their own).
Part 4 for Kaiji seems really interesting, since I am not familiar with Majhong, Part 3 wasnt that interesting for me.. anyway I still cannot believe that after all that long 13 volumes pachinko part, we have another long long game…
I hope Fukumoto starts drawing some gambling emperor zero soon, at least they have shorter games.

Still going strong.
It has basically become hard to care at all anymore.

That's pretty much all irrelevant as far as popularity is concerned. If Kaiji can still generate sales and Fukumoto can still pop out ideas, the manga can keep going. Besides, the staff had already promised a second season right after the end of the first season and the fans had been eagerly waiting for years.
Even if what you say is true that the show becomes contrived, the viewers will just have to be the judge of that as well as see how the animation studio plays out the scenes. Maybe the studio won't have it go panel-for-panel from the manga and may make the scenes more intensely plausible than what is shown in the manga.
I, for one, am excited for the second season and I'm eagerly going to watch it provided that Toriko doesn't hit the airwaves first!
@Kaba:

Whoooaaaa really???

Hasn't been the case yet, and frankly the details fall with artistic license and would probably bother Westerners far less than the Japanese. We don't even have pachinko machines and I'm beginning to doubt the current generation even know what pinball is.
The main problem is the story direction. Kaiji has always been a story about how society's "trash" are a product of their own abilities, initiative and society's structure itself. But a lot of people want to see Kaiji overcome his problems, since it completes his growth theme and is a positive moral message.
But…Fukumoto has kept Kaiji in perpetual failure, so it hasn't really felt like the manga has progressed much. You could consider it believable that he regresses (as people tend to do IRL) but YMMV. Part I was more or less complete as a story, Part II forces a continuation and Part III the confrontation.
I don't blame him though, he really needs to cut down on the number of manga he works on simultaneously, but it's the only way he can earn an income, lol. Poor guy is always drawing himself to the bone.
I'll throw a bone here and state that the "Gambling Apocalypse" arc would've made a decent wrap up due to the fact that the final chapter for it is a good harsh lesson to anyone who becomes complacent in their gambling skills. Kaiji pretty much got complacent in the end and thought that just because he made up the rules for the tissue raffle, that he had a fool-proof strategy against Hyodou. However, Hyodou still managed to draw the winning lot and beat Kaiji at his own game. If Kaiji had went into the gamble with the same amount of tentavity instead of getting cocky, he might have been better prepared for the draws.
So, basically, the moral of the story is that there is no such thing as a sure bet when it comes to gambling. You can make all the calculations and probabilities you want but in the end, it all comes down to the roll of the dice or the draw of the card. Kaiji learned this the hard way after losing his fingers and was reduced back to being the bum he was from the beginning of the series.
That said, there is still a part of me that wants to see Kaiji overthrow Hyodou and get justice for all the other bums who were sucked into the man's scheme in the first place. The ending from the first series would've been too sad, moral or no moral.

Really. You think shows like Crayon Shin-Chan, Naruto, Bleach, and even Dragon Ball lasted as long as they did? Look also at The Simpsons on FOX. The show should've ended years ago but American viewers just can't bear to see their favorite animated family leave their tubes.

I thank you for your sincere response and the pure nature with which you are speaking
But I was being flippant in my exaggerated response. That is to say,
"Duh"
Maybe a smiley would've helped –> :ermm:
Hopefully we will see a lot of 'justice' in the anime. A litte teaser:
oVB4MkdnbO0
It begins.
You guys can now experience Fukumoto females animated
Aren't you excited?
Was that the actual ending? O_O
Yes! It was!
Grabbed the first episode, time to watch this and get swooned over.
I adore the art direction in FKMT works ginormously (the bolded way they bring out his art), so I'm excited to watch it again, even if it's Kaiji II which descends into retardation.
Damn…after the awesome melancholy first ending...well damn. It's not like I don't appreciate the humour the animators have but...well I hope the opening is especially awesome.
So is that Ishida's wife?
It's kaiji's girlfriend, moe moe kyun.
Also Kaiji II episode 1 more like:
! BEERJI FOR 20 MINUTES
! Kaiji saved only because the foreman is retarded enough to challenge him to dice
! Keep on surviving kaiji
@Holy:
It's kaiji's girlfriend, moe moe kyun.
He has good taste.
@Holy:
It's kaiji's girlfriend, moe moe kyun.
It doesn't look like a relationship he went into happily…
No its not Ishida wife XD
The funny thing about the ending is. Why are they showing images from the third series: Mahjong Mine Field Saga. But the opening has to be awesome. But this ending will always be in my top 5 best ending ever:
-LUK_tCv_Ig
Damm what a difference with the second ending.
LOL at the ending. This girl's face. Ha ha ha! And the episode is already subbed. I will watch this soon.
Episode was kinda meh but it's just the beginning so it needs some time to build up. The drama and psychoanalysis and the zawa zawa was brilliant as usual though:)
Hell yeah Kaiji! I just rocked the first season recently, really good stuff! First episode of this new season is off to a compelling start! Probably show of the season, baby!
New episode. I liked it. Kaiji's starting to pick up.
I love the style of the anime. So riveting.
BTW did anyone notice in the opening?
Kurosawa?!? Could it be we might get…?!

oh my god.
did not notice.
thats brilliant.
Thank Labaamen for The Triad!

A lot of people are upset regarding Kaiji's degradation, but after Muv-Luv Alternative I've got to say I'm a lot more accepting of this kind of state. Humans repeat mistakes and behaviours, but if they're conscious of them those behaviours they'll be able to look at them with a new perspective. I'm not saying "learn" from them because that implies avoiding making the same mistake, but sometimes it's inevitable.
This is Kaiji's first major crash after almost reaching the top. His spirit was crushed and now we can see the shell of a man remaining. It's only natural he's got to regain his motivation for breaking through again. If he had the personal resolve and work ethic to strive hard in the first place, he never would have become a bum at all.
I've seen people recover from worse…
Welp Kaiji finally got out of "bend over for the soap" hell and has 20 days to make 60 million. And now he's going to face against his greatest foe to date, THE BOG!!! Sweet Jesus, 500 million pay out!?! Fukumoto is a die hard karmic dude. EVERYTHING is earned fair and square. Like Tonegawa said way back when, it takes a person's entire adolescence to get a job and save up 20 million yen. Kaiji could only get that much from Tonegawa after an insane strategy that involved self-body mutilation and a second life or death gambit when he could have stopped and he only got to play that game at all because he risked walking over a steel pole hundreds of stories in the air. And then he only got a shot at 100 million by betting his fingers which the president only allowed to be worth that much because of EVERYTHING he went through before. And this is just 100 million!!!
The premiere of the Bog was jaw-dropping. The intense atmosphere, the over-bearing design with levels and levels of pachinko balls, the charged chaos of the crowd that escalated as that poor son of a bitch got closer and closer and then the soul crushing defeat of that poor bastard when he failed. It's like you could actually feel his pain directly.
I can't even begin to imagine, begin to fathom, begin to comprehend the sheer INSANITY of what this arc will entail. The tricks and schemes and deception and bluffs and double bluffs and triple bluffs and supreme mind fucks in store. The distance Kaiji will go and the drastic measures he will resort to. For 500 million.
Needless to say I'm pretty frickin' excited for this arc.
The pachinko arc is nerve breaking, that fucking machine is the devil in engines. Now that the anime reach this point i think is time to catch up to it.
I remember reading the Pachinko arc and reading the last showdown of it in one go.
! It felt really nervwrecking (right term?) reading it, you felt too tired reading it but you couldn't stop and how long the chapters were to make it to the end didn't help. In the end, when the first ball went through the last hole and the rest followed I felt an immense satisfaction and joy for Kaiji and Sakazuki (Sp?). I even remember feeling depressed when i read the first part of Kaijis life underground. The despair of saving money and then spending most of it just for that one minute of satisfaction. Made me fear of taking more loan than what i have right now.
Now im just waiting for new chapters of part 3 =).
I was reading through part 3, but all the technical stuff with Japanese Mahjong really gets confusing. There are a million kinds of hands and point systems, and the version in this manga is a play off that, so they don't even use a lot of the official rules. I'll probably read through it as it gets scanlated.
I read through part 4, of what's out so far, and it's really interesting. Pretty different from the earlier stuff in a lot of ways.
Mahjong's NOT that hard. Half the work is remembering the hands and their values. The bitch is learning the point system. Luckily online games have that automated. I'm quite interested in mine-field mahjong. It was the awesome games in Akagi (and Akagi himself) that inspired me to learn mahjong in the first place. Never got a yakuman hand though in my over one year experience of playing.
We don't have a general Fukumoto thread, do we?

Awesome.
zawa zawa
I'm very excited as well, especially since one has no idea what Kaiji is thinking at times.
Word on the street is the next arc is mostly a recap. We had one of those in Akagi, and it was winsome. Hopefully this one will be fun too.
Just read through Zero since Fukumoto is the man. It's quite entertaining.
And holy shit to chapter 70.
I dunno what dudes are on about, but these season is shaping out to be incredibly awesome. Even Anime of the Year worthy. I dare someone to name something better that aired in 2011 that isn't Heartcatch PreCure.
I haven't used this in a while, but GAR seems appropriate. You weeklies know what I'm talking of.
