Garp was just chillin. He wanted to make it look more believable.
Chapter 617: "The Shocking Incident at Coral Hill" Discussion

He is just trolling, let him.

I think it is gonna last at least a year.
I am positive that we will see Hodi's flashback when he was a slave and rescued by Fisherman tiger. Maybe, the white shark was very close to his hero and maybe he saw him die right in front of his eyes.
Hodi is too young to have been a slave, unless he was a child slave. Hatchan and Arlong as well. To prove it, Hatchan only joined the Sunny Pirates 12 years ago, Fisher Tiger founded the Sunny Pirates 15 years ago. Jinbe is the only one old enough to have been a rescued slave, he was 31 at the time.
The idea that Arlong and Hachi are the same age is purely speculative (though it is a notion I agree with).
It's really not.
I still have no freaking clue why the anime cut this meaningful flashback and put Keimi instead.

Lol - I've been on a lot of message boards in my day but I've never been called a troll. First time for everything.

What are you trying to prove by showing that pic? You really don't have anything going on in that head of yours if you actually believe Luffy can KO Garp in ONE HIT. I think a goat needs to knock some sense into you :getlost:
Well you are either a troll or an idiot, don't know, which one do you think describes a person following your line of thought?

I think people are missing the point of why zoro is fighting Hodi and not luffy. There is a 100% change luffy would loss as he can not fight underwater. Thats why he will fight Van Deck since both cant fight under water. I believe that these next chapters are really to show the staw hats growth over the timeskip. If zoro has grown as much as I hope this will be a short fight, or zoro playing around.

Luffy's primary combative ability since the beginning of the series has been the power in his hands. Most villains fall with a single punch (Kuro, Krieg, Arlong, Crocodile, Bellamy etc.) I never once eluded to the idea that felt Luffy would beat Garp in a fight. However when Garp offers his chin out on a silver platter to someone with Luffy's kind of power and takes a full force blow to the face it should come as no surprise that he would lose consciousness and fall head first to the earth below. If Garp was defending himself I am sure that an actual fight with him and Luffy would look very different.
I have been an avid fan of combat sports most of my life and, while I understand that using real world knowledge on a One Piece situation is treading very dangerous water, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that a powerful punch on the button from a heavy handed foe will put the lights out on anyone.
I can't even believe I am debating this. Garp got knocked out because he let himself get knockedout. I didn't even think that was a question.
To answer some of the questions brought up. I am male and I am no troll.
it's really not
Thanks for clarifying.
EDIT: fezzik and others, I would be happy to continue our discussion on the questions that don't deserve there own thread thread. I'll make a post there on the subject later.

Please keep the thread on topic, guys.

Not to mention the fact that those weren't even fish. They were otters.
Awesome.
Ussop, Tarzan of the Otters :ninja:
-
Does anyone still want to make the argument that hodi is just a misguided little sweetie?
I offer now as the the time to bring that up.
-
-
I just noticed that there's a small Hyozou next to Hachi, Kuroobi and Arlong.
Its Chew. It has always been weird though why no sunny mark has been seen on Chew

I'm pretty sure that's Chew.

So Hordy might be a good guy?

I've never payed much attention to them, but this TL note got my attention.
http://www.mangabit.com/manga/one-piece/chapter/617/page/9does anyone know why the TL put the word "Yakkoudori" above the panel where Zoro attacks?
as far as I know, Yakkoudori is a type of food…
unless that's the original attack name, and it's just been translated to "Disaster Harbor Bird".... -
Take anymore talk on the Japan earthquake to the thread that Dryish pointed out.
@Dryish:Take the conversation to the right thread, people.

it's the origninal attack name
that's just ironic.
you see, just a week ago, I said to my friend that it would be cool if Zoro had a new technique for his Asura form, called Yakutouryuu (One-Hundred Swords Style). and then he said that that would be cool, as Yakutori is a type of food, which more of Zoro's moves are related to.
And now there's actually an attack with that name!I'ts not in Asura form, or called 100 Swords Style, like I was thinking, but hey…

I don't mean to take this situation lightly, but how could this disaster effect the outcome of this arc? I don't know if Oda's willing to destroying FI, IF that was going to be the imminent outcome.
-
i think zoro is going to kick hodis behind, sanji will fight decken, luffy will fight the mud guy, and brook will finally be useful by pwning hyouzo!!

You won't need to worry about that. Oda's already planned out this arc's outcome long before we arrived at it.

unless that's the original attack name, and it's just been translated to "Disaster Harbor Bird"....We should all know by now that many of Zoro's attacks are puns. It's to enliven the otherwise serious character. Now he's getting to tofu, what's next? Miso? Seaweed? [Insert random Japanese food item]? …I'm making myself hungry again.

I really don't see hyouzo fighting anyone but zoro… he is a well known swordsman and it would take away from zoro's "dream".

Well we know that Brook is weaker than Zoro so if Brook fights the merman swordman and wins then he was not worth Zoros time now is he?
This arc is to show that each member has gotten stronger and we have not seen if Brooks swordman skills have gotten better yet and that would be a good fight to show them if they have improved.
