Which leads to the question: Is Funi going to even attempt to stream this since they have the official streaming rights to both shows? I also wonder if this is going to affect the episode numbers on both shows, since last time it looked like onepieceofficial.com skipped an episode.

Do you think this'll be an animated version of the manga crossover, or an entirely new story?
-
It seems to be entirely new.

I have a feeling it's gonna be the same type of deal. Plus, since production is behind at Toei, Toriko simulcasts Wednesday's at 6PM instead of an hour after the Japanese broadcast, like One Piece. If FUNimation does simulcast both episodes, then the latter half will premiere an hour after it does usually, but you'll have to wait until Wednesday to see the first part.
Of course I'm sure whether FUNi simulcasts it or not, Anime-Destiny fansubs will more than likely sub the whole thing like last year. Hopefully next week's JUMP has more details on what to expect content-wise.

I really hope the crossover will just be during Toriko, One Piece needs to hurry up with the flashbacks.

we already know it covers the one piece chapter too.

Nah, it's both.

it was revealed weeks ago that it would be for both, in the anime discussion thread.

These specials are annoying for other countries. :/ Either you show them and they don't make sense due to not having the Toriko part or you cut it and fuck the episode count up.
-
On one hand, I'm disappointed that they are not animating the manga crossover special because I would've loved to have seen the food gathering competition between Toriko and Luffy animated. But, on the other hand, I can understand Toei not wanting to animate that particular special because they don't want to give kids the idea that it's okay to eat poop.:ermm:
Anyways, I wonder what the crossover special will be? An Iron Chef competition between Komatsu and Sanji? Toriko vs Magellan? The Straw Hats fighting the Bishokukai? Or maybe wacky food hijinks with Buggy tagging along? The possibilities are endless.
-
They're going to have to bail Chopper (of course) out of some sort of trouble. At least there might be more Toriko characters in this one, since the preview shows Sanji arguing with Sunny.
-
Here's a…4 second preview! -__-

One wonders why they even bothered to upload it lol

There is also a 15 sec preview, where you can see a blue Chopper (yeah I know, wtf).
But the animation seems to be pretty good. -
So this thing airs next week?
Great, so we lose a week on One Piece for this? Well I'll have to download it since I know it won't be subbed by Funi. Not really looking forward to it at all. I don't have any interest in Toriko.

Yawn. You would think Toei could've had the straw hats and the Bishoku-Yas at least get involved in a battle against the Bishokukai. This just sounds awfully generic.
I'm just hoping that it isn't One Piece Movie 3 bad…

I have a feeling it's gonna be like the last one. Here's my prediction:
Chopper gets kidnapped by some beast made up specially for this special, and Toriko, accompanied by Komatsu, Coco, Sunny, and Rin along with the Straw Hats set out to rescue him. And the final battle will be the same kinda deal. No One Piece villains and no Bishokukai villains. Just Luffy and Toriko Vs. whatever kidnapped Chopper. May I eat these words though.
-
well, maybe it wont be bat like last time
i mean we know the toriko characters much better now and the straw hat are after the time skip
lets hope it wont sucks
-
I loved the last OPXToriko crossover with the DF that looked like a pile of sh** and turned out to actually be a pile of sh**
-
I wonder if everyone will still know each other or if it'll be as if the other special didn't happen. If it's the latter, I'm sure we'll get at least one joke about wanting to eat Chopper.
-
Or we'll get a line from Toriko saying "Chopper, you still look as tasty as ever!".
-
Here's the preview from the newest Toriko episode, along with the 4-second long preview from One Piece.
-
I hoped they would animate the crossover chapter, oh well…
-
Bah, Tate's going to be stuck with the intro half while Yokoyama gets the action half, isn't he?
-
The episode titles have been revealed:
Toriko:
-51- "The Reunion of Toriko and Luffy! Find the Seafood Fruit!" One Piece:
-542- "Team Formation! Save Chopper!" -
I must admit that the clashing shading styles throw me off just a little bit, especially that shot of Luffy and Toriko standing side by side. The fact that the Toriko guys are kinda on the 'shiny' side, kinda make the One Piece guys look rather flat-shaded in comparison, even though that's the current coloring style of One Piece's anime since the start of the Time Skip. Imo, they should've toned down the Torkio character's shading a little bit and upped the OP ones a little as well, just for this episode, so there'd be some balance. I'd be cool with it if this was a 4th wall breaking, "we're from different universes- how cool is that?" type deal, (and I'm a sucker for stuff like that actually,) but that doesn't seem to be the case, just like the last one. (Which, as a side note, I thought was alright.)
[/over-analytic nitpick]
-
I get a chuckle when looking at the Toriko cast next to One Piece characters. I know that the OP universe has tall people, but the Toriko cast has like an average of 7ft tall people.
-
… My god, this was a BAD episode. Both for Toriko and for One Piece. Inconsistent and useless plot, bad use for most of the characters, and bad animation in general.
-
It is, but what do you expect from a crossover episode? They're never good.
Though I like how Chopper was the damsel in distress for once instead of Nami.

I'm putting in my 2 cents for this crossover now that I have watched it.
Well….sigh....I hate to say this but it wasn't good. While I enjoyed last year's crossover because it at least seemed whimsically creative on the part of Toei, this year's crossover just felt forced and arbitrary. The animation and character models looked really bad for the Straw Hats whereas Toriko, Komatsu, Sunny, Coco and Rin got the better treatment.
The story felt too resolute and rushed and could've benefitted with some greater ulterior conflicts if a Bishokukai or pirate rogue had gotten in the way of the team. Instead, we're treated to gourmet creatures which didn't provide much except to delay the team for all but a few minutes. It doesn't provide any sense of excitement to the viewer if conflicts get resolved too quickly.
Chopper getting sick with Blue Sea Fever should've come off as an ironic plot point but felt uncharacteristic. You would think with Chopper being a doctor, he would do everything imaginable to find a way to properly cure himself of the disease but instead is allowing himself to be overwhelmed by it. I understand that having a fever can weaken people but not this quickly.
For the other Bishoku-Yas that showed up, Sunny and Coco did their parts and even Zebra got to lend a hand with his Otodama even while being in prison. In fact, I found that Zebra's assistance to be the only major highlight of the whole special!
So yeah, the special could've been much, much better but instead, Toei decided to stick with their clichés. As it stands, the manga crossover still remains my favorite and that is only because Oda and Shimabukuro themselves collaborated on it with their own train of thoughts.
