Chapter 599, "9 Pirates" Discussion

@Eli:
Sanji was never bothered by that before so I guess, in OP world, one eye is as good as two.
Zoro always played with fate (remember the cursed sword way back in loguetown for example). The thing that bothers me is that he seems to give lessons now.I dunno, not true, I have longer than Sanji's length hair and even when I have it in front of one eye, I can still see! It's really distracting, but better than a blind eye.
-
-
Maybe lost the eye, maybe didn't. Maybe one of those "keep it covered until serious" things like Kakashi does?
Also, really not digging Franky's new look. Anyone else think he's just too big now?
-
It's Cucumber Time!
Reading some posts here, I agree that Luffy didn't need to dodge the bullet, but it wouldn't have the "OH MY HE JUST USED HAKI!" effect.
-
i wonder if it's really gone though, cause usually, you would want to cover it if it's gone
-
It'll be fine, it was more of a build up chapter to me so it was still exciting, it set in motion the crew finally fully reassembling, maybe Luffy vs Sentoumaru round 2, and the fake straw-hat storyline may continue with Chopper running off, the chapter had a lot of "juice" to it but it was more subtle than last chapter where we saw all the characters. Zoro's lines were a lil blackbeard-esque but the new look is pretty awesome
-

That would be awful and he already has his bandana to situations like that.
The max i would say is that the scar is recent and its still healing up so he cant open the eye, but i do think he lost it. -
Wohooo Pandaman Page 6. XD
Whoa! I just found him now! Thanks!
the cover scares me. sheep dont eat meat do they?
These sheep are special sheep. They fly down from the fluffy cover of clouds, soothing their victims to sleep, then steal the food. Afterward, they fly back to the comfort of the clouds… until they realize they ended up in the wrong cloud, and Nami zaps them all.
L: Hey!! What about my meat!?
Ruby: What about it? -
Wohooo Pandaman Page 6. XD
This PROVES it. Pandaman is a cannon character who has been watching Luffy since the start of the series, thus he is Sabo with the Panda-Panda fruit.
-
This may have been posted since I was last here but, theory:
Franky now has replaceable parts.
I got this idea because of how in the middle of his thigh, it looks like he "connected" the rest of his legs. If you look at his shoulders, his "arms" appear to be bolt ons as well.
I made this theory to help appease those of you that are upset about his appearance, and am theorizing it despite the fact that franky said this was probably his "last" remodel.
Of course, if the replaceable parts (and alternate weaponry/defense systems) are part of this design then it's not a contradiction at all.
-

More importantly (to the story, not the reader), he would be revealing his identity, which would just cause a hassle for him – something he agreed to not do at the beginning of the chapter. He doesn't know 2 PX's and Sentoumaru are coming.
-

This theory is win.

Then why is the Tomato Gang after him? Why does he have a rivalry with Unforgivable Mask? What's with the Beeeeeeaaaaar (Long-Ring-Long-Land bear)? How does he shoot BEAMs from his arms? What happened to his awesome hat?
There seriously needs to be a Panda Panda Fruit.
-
Didn't Luffy just dodge the bullet to keep low profile-ish?
(Or something) -
Didn't he just dodge the bullet to keep low profile-ish?
(Or something)That's what I thought too. Plus, he's in a hurry to meet with his pals. Fastest way: dodge, then CoC haki. It also is for Rule of Cool.
-
Sentomaru looks fatter and he wears a vice-admiral jacket.
-
if luffy the rubber man did not dodge the bullet everyone would have knew who he was
-

I thought the same thing about his size. Maybe just perspective of the drawing though? We are kinda looking up from the floor at him.
-

As someone previously stated, even if he didn't dodge he can't assume his opponent can't imbue haki into the bullet. So dodging serves to both keep him alive and keep him relatively under the radar.
-
Just to clarify, most people here realize that it is most likely false that Luffy's bounty is 400 mil right? That the only guy saying this spells his name Monky D. Luffy. Sorry if I sound angry but I'm trying to get the idiots at the OP Wiki to stop putting his bounty up for it, and I wanted to see what you guys think about it.
-
Is it just me, or is Zoro's "scarred eye" on the wrong side in this chapter compared to the color spread of last chapters?
-
I actually don't mind Franky's new look too much, but to even fathom that Zoro lost his eye makes me very uneasy, and I hope he doesn't start talking like Mihawk now…that would be very un-Zoro. I also look forward to seeing Sunny's new weapons.

A very good point.

Oda said he made a mistake on last chapter. The side in this chapter is correct.
-

! Pandaman = Panda + man
So he's a human and man. A Pan has a oval format, more precisely "o", so Pan + da = Oda
Sabo without the S (because of Ace's tatto) = abo. Abo mirrored = Oda.
So Pandaman is Oda and Sabo because Oda is too Sabo.I actually don't mind Franky's new look too much, but to even fathom that Zoro lost his eye makes me very uneasy, and I hope he doesn't start talking like Mihawk now…that would be very un-Zoro.
Well, I can't wait to see Zoro offending Sanji talking like Mihawk.
-
Did Sentoumaru had that tattoo on his left arm before?
-
Die in a fire. Then resurrect yourself, just to die again in a BIGGER fire.
Honestly I haven't even followed the topics and i already know the reasoning for this, there's no excuse at this point.
That said, here's the explanation yet again:
Oda messed up on the color spread, not the chapter. In the chapter the scar is correct.
gah i quoted the wrong person but i'm too lazy to fix, hope that guy reads it.
-
if luffy the rubber man did not dodge the bullet everyone would have knew who he was
EXACTLY what I thought.

Well, apparently, Zoro talks like Mihawk now…. It would be really strange if he keeps talking that way. And I also don't like how Zoro lost his other eye, I mean, I hope it still opens.
-
EXACTLY what I thought.
It also would have damaged the (probably very expensive) coat he got from Hancock. Seriously, that coat looks like its made from baby seals.
-
Did Sentoumaru had that tattoo on his left arm before?
From One Piece Wikia.
Sentoumaru also has bandages wrapped around his right fist and elbows, along with the Kanji Sen (戦, battle) tattooed on his left bicep.
So yes, he had it before.
-
I really like Franky's appearance. I think it fits well within the context of the story regarding Cyborgs. Vegapunk's cyborgs become super strong by maintaining a human appearance but losing their personality and humanity. In contrast, in order for Franky to become stronger, he ends up sacrificing his human appearance but maintaining his super appearance. It fits well and is a nice contrast.
One thing I also noticed is that it appears as though Usopp and Nami have made their way back to Thousand Sunny and by extension Franky and Robin. On the bottom of the page with Sentomaru, you can see this picture:
Pretty much Franky waving hello to them. In the Usopp and Nami picture, we clearly see a design in the background that's clearly not from Sabaody and looks like the Thousand Sunny.
-
I'm sure Luffy would survive being shot in the head. Haki imbued bullets shouldn't a big deal for him. Seastone bullets would be a problem though. He likely dodged because he didn't want to be discovered. The whole world saw his power during the war, so a rubber head would out him.
-
"Hate your own destines, who set me up on your ship like an angel of death."
I just can't get over it, I keep reading it several times, it is just so awesome. :D

There's a bar between the two pictures, Nami and Usopp aren't at the ship. You can tell especially because there's a gazebo or something in the background of the Nami/Usopp picture that is unlike anything on or near the Sunny.

If Kizaru is wary of being shot with what we can assume is a haki imbued bullet, Luffy should be as well.

zoro's acting like mihawk a bit
remember the baratie arc? Mihawk destroyed battalion of ships all because… they
disturbed his nap.
-
Wohooo Pandaman Page 6. XD
But we gotta agree that Zoro's life is all about fate… we never know where his feets will make him go.
I almost never notice Pandaman, good people do so i can check, its always fun XD
Good eye, I just saw him too.

First, Franky's appearance is SUUUUUUUUUUUUUPER!
Second, I don't think that Usopp and Nami are at the Sunny yet. Behind them looks like a stripped awning, something the Sunny doesn't have.

I don't think so. Haki and seastone are different but they still neglect the defenses of Devil fruits. If luffy was hit in the head with a haki-imbued bullet, that would be like being hit with a seastone tipped bullet.
-
If Kizaru is wary of being shot with what we can assume is a haki imbued bullet, Luffy should be as well.
I'm not saying it wouldn't hurt, just that it wouldn't kill him and that he could still fight. He took a chakram to the back of the head early on in the series and then proceeded to beat Kuro.

Unless the bullet is fired by an amazing sniper, Luffy has shown to be tough enough to not die from a bullet. A seastone one would be worse since it would rob him of his power while it's still stuck in his head.
-
AWSOME chapter. Zoro kicks SO much ass. Franky looks like a gorilla now
-
If Luffy didn't dodge the bullets and let it hit him, people will complain about how Luffy did not master CoO and 2 years of training was a waste etc. Plus, he's just keeping a low key by dodging bullets instead of making a commotion.
As for Zoro's speech, he talks like that since the beginning of the series. What are people on about? Remember the curse sword? Remember after the fight with Captain T-Bone?
Chopper have not seen the crew in 2 years, and the meeting place was set for SA, so when he arrived and knew for a fact that they will be there, how would he know that there will be impostors at the same time? For us readers it is easy to tell but put yourself in chopper's shoes and you'll probably do the same thing.
Only two chapters, people are losing the plot already because of superficial shit like hair length, scars, eyebrow, arms, shaved head etc. WTF, come on!
-

You're missing the part where haki negates his rubber body.

Have we cleared up Zolo's eye yet? Or are we all still confused.
