What should I say? He seems convinced that the anime is sensless and pointless because an amv I thought was good…(This is one piece AMV)
I need help convincing a friend that one piece is amazing.
-
-
Tell him to shut his hor mouth and quit judging a book by its cover.
-
Have him read it. Should be convincing enough.
Any particular reason why? -
yes, have them read it. I just let my friend read the first 8 volumes and they are practically frothing at the mouth for more.
-
HA. Just had the same problem.
I made her read Water 7. Now she's going to start it in full.
FORCE FORCE FORCE
-
u can always show a picture of nami swan & robin chan. that should do the trick.
-
Senseless and pointless? I'm not sure how your friend got that from that AMV. Just get him to try reading or watching some. I know I thought it was silly before I actually started reading it, but now I think it's just plain awesome! I went through about 550 chapters in less than two months.
And to add to what dragonfruit said, show him Sadi-chan too. :ninja:
-
Show him one of GiaSecando's amv's.
-
Make him read the enies lobby´s arc, or somethiong like that.
And tell him to not watch the anime -
Make him read the enies lobby´s arc, or somethiong like that.
And tell him to not watch the animeI agree with the anime point, but Enies Lobby isn't a good starting point.
One of the reasons why? It makes OP seem like just a fight-fight shonen. However, I thought the arc itself was great, but it just lacked the true theme of OP….adventure.
-
Personally I like the mini arcs better for jumping on points. Start, Arlong, Little Garden, Drum, Jaya, DBF and Thriller Bark seemed best to jump on.
Although Thriller is way too far in to be too good to advise.
-
Do what i do/did. Force them to watch the first episode, first 3 if your friend is stubborn and its their choice to watch the rest. My friend started a month and a half a go over force for the first episode. He is now caught up.

One Piece has the shape and form of an epic poem. It's basically a long, fun-filled action-packed journey that goes from happy to sad to hilarious to downright angry at some points. It's got a ton of characters, all of which are different and essential to their place in the great journey and fantastic and sometimes unbelievably weird fighting. Basically, One Piece has characteristics that are awesome for a story…tell this person that.
-
Tie him to a chair, tape his eyes open and force him watch Alabasta.
AMV's might be the wrong way to go though, try the Ennies Lobby scence or Arlong Park one maybe?
Although I find the books are an easier way to get people into it rather than the animation. -

Well, I was more thinking about they way it´s drawn. In the first chapters, it looks liknd of sloppy, and that´s why alot of people dont wanna read in the beginning. I´ts alot better after the skypeia arc though.
-
Some people just don't get One Piece. I have had to come to terms with that. For whatever reason I am drawn to OP and I guess for whatever reason some are negated by it. I don't have a single friend who likes it. My girlfriend is starting to come around slowly though.
-
Show him this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Piece#Reception
And this:
http://apforums.net/showthread.php?t=29256
And tell him to read manga instead of watching anime. -
Just show him Moria.
-
Tie him to a chair, tape his eyes open and force him watch Alabasta.
This is the only way :getlost:
-
Make him read the first 2 chapters.
There are ways.
-
@HiroVoid:
Show him one of GiaSecando's amv's.
Couldn't "THIS" hard enough
-
I do have a lot of friends who hate OP, but I managed to convince two of them to read OP. They eventually loved it. Manga > anime.
-
I have tons of friends who hate OP, but I also have tons of friends that I've turned to OP fans.
The ones that simply don't get to like it are normally people who simply love monotonous stuff and find stuff that is actually original, random and stupid. Everything that is original to them means that the creator of it smoked something and went on a journey to a rainbow paradise of gayness, and that is why they don't like it, even if it made "fictional sense". Also a common stupid excuse is the art style, which at most times is just retarded because people who say that normally love Dragonball, and One Piece looks incredibly similar like it except a bit smoother and cartoony.
There are also people who simply have a like for bad stuff, which is why they won't like One Piece at all, because it is actually good. This is mostly an argument I have with tons of people I know who don't seem to understand a critic's point of view in things.
"Just because you like something, doesn't mean that it is actually good." - I say.
I've liked tons of stuff that aren't good at all, and I've also disliked stuff that are good too. One Piece is one of those series I like and it is actually good, while Shaman King is one of those that I like also, but not that good at all. What I mean is that just because you like something it doesn't make it a critical success, and many people don't understand that.
So if you keep trying your friend to like OP, but it doesn't work, at least try to make him understand that it is a critical success, different and original, and to at least respect it. For example: I don't like the Metal Gear Solid games at all, but I respect the franchise for the great games it has released and how it has moved the gaming community in many ways.
That is all…
-
i convinced 5 of my freinds to read the manga by telling them it existed
-
Or alternatively, tell him if he doesn't both read it and enjoy it, you will take a giant pair of Scissors to his Genetalia.
-
I've gotten quite a number of friends and acquaintances into OP by simply showing them parts of the finale to Luffy vs. Crocodile, some of Sanji vs. Mr. 2, some parts from Movie 6, and/or even the debut of Gear Second…they are now fans of the show and pretty much caught up. ^^
-
Most of the people in this thread remind me of my over-eager OP fanboy friend.
He put over 10 people off One Piece, and in the process, created a reputation of being a weeaboo.
Just fucking leave it. If he/she/it ain't interested, and you want to keep your social status (what little you have), leave it be. I cannot stress the point enough.*
-
I don't have a single friend who likes it.
Same here. Haven't been successful in convincing any of them at all. They're all like "I saw the 4Kids dub, it was too kiddy for me." and they seriously won't give it another chance beyond that, not even when they're largely into Shounen anime/manga.
-
Went to an anime convention with my girlfriend, I bought a couple OP merchandise and on the way home she told me she wanted to start watching it. Now we're on episode 78 or something.
-
Just bitchslap him.
That'll set him straight. -
not everybody is going to love one piece. just let him think whatever he wants.
-
get hi, to watch strong world
-
Casually slip volume one under his pillow, he goes to sleep and feels a hard thing under his head, he reaches under his pillow, ONE PIECE! He'll be so curious that he'll read it. It'll work. I tried it on my friend, who then got right into it and now every christmas he buys me a bunch of One Piece merchandise. It's good.
-
Why in the hell would you want to try and 'convince' someone that anything you like, let alone a comic book, is 'amazing'?
-
tell him about Chopper's background.
about Dr Hilruc's quotation of being forgotten.
try to convince him that death is better than forgotten with the storybut dont mention a name. dont let him know if it's about one piece.
if you get a good respond from him, you may told him that it's one piece -
Here's what I usually do when trying to tell someone One Piece is good at that they need to watch it if they like anime or manga.
-start them off with one of the movies. My choice is usually Movie 6. It shows off the personalities of the crewmates fairly well and doesn't reveal too much of the story (aside from Robin joining). Dead End Adventure also works.
-
just keep tellin him about how good op is and if that doesn't work then show him Nami, if that doesn't work the strap him to a chair and make him watch op.
if that doesn't work, look at suggestion above.then again op movie 10 shows all the personalities of the characters really well so you could plead your friend to just watch Strong World and hope he likes it.
-
get hi, to watch strong world
Hmm…there's an idea, though I think SW is great with or without hallucinogens.
Btw just give up. The less One Piece fans the better, it's already becoming a little too popular.
-
watchfirst two epsidoes with him/her
or read first few chpater with him/her
whilst doing so, explain to him what is happening
should work - it did for one of my mates -
Just show him Moria.
This. Blatantly. I have similiar problems. I made a
"deal" to watch Fairy Tail if he watches One piece, but he still hasn't started. Many other friends have fallen to it's charms, however. Once they start, encourage them, then hurry them to Arlong.
=result. -
Well, we can't force others to like what we like, what i did was to let them watch One piece Strong world 10 and now they are asking me for the link of one piece anime from the beginning lol~
