Some of the dumbest shit I've read on this blog so far and I'm surprised it's coming from you Dryish or is that slogan of yours just for show? Because the terrorist attack on the United States wasn't the worst thing to happen in the world it's not of importance? People died…"so what"... The fuck!? Why can't we remeniecse about that day? It's not a day to stop what you're doing and forget about the rest of the world. I don't know where you even got that mindset. It's a day of remembrance and honoring the dead.
I don't care how big the U.S. media has blown it up to be. Of course they would, it's the U.S. media and it happened in the U.S.! The fact remains it's a day of tragedy. People who compare tragedies and say what's important and what's not important based on death total and shit like that…what am I supposed to say? It's damn stupid. What defines a tragedy is not only the death count. It's its effect.
You ever heard the phrase, "History tends to repeat itself"? That's the reason why we study and remember history. To make sure it doesn't happen again and to learn from past mistakes and successes. Sure, look ahead to the future, but we should never forget the past. What even makes you think like that? I read what you wrote and I'm just baffled.
OKAYI'VEGOTTAGETTHISOUTOFMYSYSTEM!
These freaking people will never EVER move beyond Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
"Greg, that's easy for you to say as an outsider."
NO! This isn't about their 'feelings' and to an extent you're right, I can not sympathize how they feel until a nuke gets detonated in St. Louis or something, but this is entirely about how and what they use and abuse the bombings as. The use the bombs as a kind of forcefield to shadow over everything they did and the MASSIVE crimes against humanity they committed. This time of year EVERY year, all you see is the country turning into a victim. And it comes in many forms.
There are TV movies that come out each year telliing some sob story be it the aftermath of a fire bombing, a nuke, children being sent to war, etc. It's always some heart-wrenching tale where SOMEONE is the victim and redemption is sought or yearned.
But never do they dare to discuss at length the horrible acts of violence they committed in East Asia AND to their own people.
You always here about the horrible battles in Okinawa and how young girls who were nurses died in battle. Well gee, casualties in war, guess that's bound to happen when you send off high school kids to work on the battlefield. But that aside, wasn't it nice of you to lie to the Okinawans and tell them they were better off jumping from cliffs than submitting to the evil US forces.
Catching Chinese babies on bayonets anyone?
But no. When it even seems that a news show or popular commentator MIGHT start to talk about that, BWooPH! up goes the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Shield of guilt and defense.
"War is terrible. We must never have war again."
Yeah okay, but let's talk about the time yo-
"Hiroshima and Nagasaki, never again."
For crying out loud. I LOVE the people. I LOVE their culture and history, but the higher-ups are fucking scary, scary people.
Greg about the Japanese reminiscence of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
I didn't see anyone getting angry.
Talk about two weights, two measures.
