The Riddler's been mentioned a lot in rumours, though we don't have any sort of confirmation yet.
The Dark Knight Rises

Jim Carry will always be the funniest and coolest Riddler in my eye.
-
I'm one of the people who likes Bale's Batman, too. He's not trying to be the badass fanboys want, he's trying to be a crime fighter who won't be exposed when a purse snatcher hears him during a TV interview. People easily forget Bruce Wayne is one of Gotham's most well known individuals.
Always bugged the shit out of me how past actors used the same voice for both roles, especially to characters who interacted with both roles and are all "DURRR" to who's under the mask.
-
I like Bale's Batman but I still think Michael Keaton was the best. Val Kilmer wasn't my fav but he certainly did A LOT better than George Clooney and his campy take on the caped crusader.
I think Bale is a given so I'm interested in who the villain is going to be. I heard at one point that Johnny Depp was being considered for the Riddler but recent rumors state Eddy Murphy. Does anyone have a concrete source we might be able to use?
I also heard rumors that Racquel Weiss (ugh) is rumored to be in for the role of Catwoman. W-T-F-?
-
They better fix Bale's voice somehow. He is forcing too much. A calm voice can be as threatning as a strong one. Personally, I think Val Kilmer was the best batman actor so far in the live action. He had a calm voice and I really believed he was mentally sick. He sounded NATURAL. He is what I envisioned Batman to be. The Dark Knight was more of a Joker film.
2 Major problems, I have with the Nolan's movies. They are good movies indeed
-The settings are TOO realistic. Batman is supposed to be a very dark environment. I am still in love with Batman returns atmosphere.
- Christian Bale …
I agree. I saw Dark Knight before Begins, so I assumed the voice was as normal. Going back and seeing Batman Begins, the voice was okay there, but for some strange reason in The Dark Knight it's waaay more growly to the point where it's not scary at all, it's funny.

I get that, and yeah, that's good logic. But tbh, I thought it was just fine in Begins.

Yeah, apparently some 'Casting Grid' (?) has been in circulation for actors. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been heavily rumoured.
-
Nolan DOES like to reuse actors, so he's a possibility.
-
Who's Racquel Weiss?
-
I think she was in the Mummy.
-
I personally would love Robin Williams as an older Riddler, that is, if the Riddler is even going to be in this movie.
I for one would still love to see Hush as the villain, or Talia al Ghul. Hell, a combination of the two of them, and I would have the biggest fangasm ever.
-
With the films being realistic and all, I don't think Nolan would bring Ghul back.
-
After Inception it was reported that they were talking to Joseph Gordon-Levitt about the role of the Riddler.
This may have been wishful thinking, however, since we haven't gotten any news since.
-
I rewatched some episodes of the New adventures of Batman. It is just plain awesome. The episode "Over the edge" is one of my favorite episode . It is so dark and sad. Batman and Nightwing were beyond badass. The back punch is classic. I actually think the anime style fits more the Batman franchise.

Memories. RIP Shirley Walker.

Talia is his daughter. He wouldn't be bringing Ras Al Ghul back, he'd be introducing his daughter into the story.
Since this is Nolan's last batman film, I think it be cool for him to bring in Talia since his era began with Ras.
Hell, or they could bring in Sensei, Ra's father.Best thing to do, imo, is the bring in the Riddler, and Hush. The latter for many reasons, mostly his past with Bruce, and his interactions with Jonathan Crane, who in fact gives him the name Hush. Bringing Crane back would be cool, though they sort of did it in TDK. Hell, they could even fit Talia in if they wanted for an Epic finale.
That's what I would love to see, now that I think about it (yes I just got done rereading Hush…) -
About Bale voice.

We've already discussed this…in this topic.

After Inception it was reported that they were talking to Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Yesfine.
Please.
Just as long as the name Shia is never mentioned I don't care who it is.
-
For a minute, I was thinking people were saying that Levitt should be Robin. Not a bad choice for a Robin, but either way, Levitt would be great as the Riddler.
-
I heard talks of Shaia Lebouff (spelling?) being cast for Robin. Would the inclusion of Robin detract from the darkness of the current Batman?

No, but Shia Lebouff would.
In all seriousness, I don't think Nolan has any intentions of including Robin. As you said, it would probably take away from the darkness of his Batman films. Plus, we all know what happened last time they had Robin in a Batman film.

Batman: Forever wasn't that bad.
Don't confuse it with Batman and Robin.

Oh no, I agree. I actually did like Batman Forever, but even I can see that Chris O'Donnell's Robin was god-awful.
Two-Face reflipped his coin…
I take everything back.
Please continue.
I don't get it.
-
I don't get it.
Two-Face tends to base certain decisions on the luck of a coin. He'll flip his coin, and depending on the outcome, will control his actions. For example in the Dark Knight, he flipped a coin to decide whether or not to shoot a person. If the coin landed in opposition to shooting the person, he would agree with the coin and not shoot that person, regardless of his opinion in the outcome.
In Batman:Forever, the coin flip landed against his wishes…...so he flipped again in hope of getting a better outcome.

That's what I thought. Yeah, pretty dumb, but it doesn't bother me that much.

"Plus, we all know what happened last time they had Robin in a Batman film."
A violent chill shot down my spine.
-
The last robin that I saw on a batman movie was… the return of the joker.

And he was great. Of course, I was referring to live action Batman. And as long as we're talking about Return of the Joker.

"That's not funny. That's…."
^That is a brilliant line right there. It's scary to see a man who always laughs to be so paralyzed with fear.
-
Batman Forever was produced by Tim Burton. There was still an influence from Burton. However, they wanted Batman and Robin to be even more lighthearted.

I recently… "Adquired" whatever happened to the capped crusader, an ending to Batman, every batman, the joker also says that line:
! He tells in bat's meta-funeral (everyone, even alfred killed him in different ways..) how he killed him, he inyected his venom, while bats didn't smile, the joker asked why and bats said "because it's not funny". Then we go back to the funeral as the joker said "and he was right, it wasn't funny" as he got trully sad.

http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/10/13/tom-hardy-cast-in-batman-3/Awesome! It seems that Hardy liked the Nolan experience and came back for seconds. Now, who will he play?
-
Cool!
If he's the villain, I don't think we'll be seeing the Riddler, as hardy seems like he'd make a better Hush.
But who knows?
I love how super secret Nolan is keeping all of this.
We probably won't know what the story is or who the villain is until Fall 2011, or even later if Nolan can pull it off. -
We have title confirmation! The Dark Knight Rises
Nolan confirmed this and that The Riddler will NOT be in it.
http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2010/10/27/christopher-nolan-reveals-title-of-third-batman-film-and-that-it-wont-be-the-riddler/ -
So, no Riddler…
I am pretty disappointed by that. Riddler in the Nolan-verse could have been awesome.
Well, i'm still hoping for Mad Hatter!
-
As I see it, I'm predicting this film will be about a sweet redemption by Bats himself, even since he purposefully took the bullet (figuratively and literally ) in the last film.
I'm particularly curious as to what Tom Hardy will be playing as. I liked his acting in Inception.

I'm really hoping for Hush. With Hush as the Villain, not only will Batman have to rise, but Bruce will as well.
I'm really feeling a Hush / Talia al Ghul finale.
Now that I think about it, Hugo Strange would work very well in this movie as well… -
Pretty disappointed with the title … just sounds pretty lame.
Nolan is also looking for a new female lead in her late 20s/30s.
-
Pretty disappointed with the title … just sounds pretty lame.
I think it works perfectly.
it really feels sort of epic to me.
We start out with the hero's beginnings in "Batman Begins", then we go to the fall that all epic heroes experience at some point in "The Dark Knight", and finally, like always, the hero ascends at the end, "The Dark Knight Rises"Very poetic.
Very epic. -
How come I see the riddler in the noel batman as a hacker who leaves clues.
D: -
BatDan,
THANK YOU!
That interviewer however has his head up his ass.
1. They said Dent was dead shortly after the film was released.
2. He didn't quote the man on EXACTLY what he said about The Riddler.
Did he say, "The Riddler won't be in the movie.", or did he say, "Edward Nigma won't be in the movie.", because I was just thinking yesterday about how Nolan could TOTALLY mess with us and how he reveals the role.
Anyway, I don't have any hopes that it'll be The Riddler now, I just think it would have been a good idea to actually quote what he said. Because I gotta say, if it ain't The Riddler, then they must have ONE HELLUVA IDEA!!!!
NO 3D!!!???? THANK YOU!!!! NOLAN YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!!!
-
So Killer Croc then right???
-
Does this mean we can have Mr. Freeze in a live-action movie that doesn't suck.
-
The only other villain I could see entering Nolans universe is Black Mask, just because the guy was basicly a mafia don who wore a mask. Seeing as how Joker and Two-Face killed a good percentage of the Gotham crime syndicate it actually makes sense for him to appear.
-
Hmmm, Penguin???
No.
Catwoman???
Nope.
Bane??
Hell No. -

Riddler's not in. At all. Nolan is being careful though. He has now denounced 4 villians.
NO 3D!!!???? THANK YOU!!!! NOLAN YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!!!
We've known about that for a couple of months now, Greg
@The:
So Killer Croc then right???
Nope, not realistic or important enough.
@Cyan:

He ruled out Freeze, Penguin, Joker, and now the Riddler.

What about Hugo Strange? Hush? Talia al Ghul? All would fit perfectly into the Nolan verse. In fact, I'm expecting 1 of those three if not two.
All the Nolan movies had had 2 badies. Which is why I'd love to see Strange and Hush, because Strange knows Bruce is Batman, and Hush wants to destroy Bruce.
With Strange trying to usurp Brice as Batman, and Hush trying to destroy Wayne it really creates an interesting story that would lead to an Ascension by Bruce and Bats into finally being one complete person.
Or something like that….. -
Awwww, no Riddler. What a shame. Oh well. C'mon, Mad Hatter!!
Female lead in her 20s/30s? Catwoman, anyone?
-
Riddler's not in. At all.
Oh you confirmed with Nolan after dinner?
We've known about that for a couple of months now, Greg
No we haven't Akumu insert dipshit smiley
All we've known is that Nolan hates 3D and wanted to do it 2D. We didn't know whether the studio would okay that or not.
Christ, half-assed movie news people.
-
Female lead in her 20s/30s? Catwoman, anyone?
Yeah that had been my guess too. But really, thinking about it I suppose we could speculate on it being anyone from Catwoman, to Poison Ivy, to a hot new love-interest for Bruce.
