General Cosplay Thread
-
-
So a quick question guys…
Since we have this awesome General Cosplay Thread, do you think we should expand it? I'm suggesting expanding this thread with another stickied thread for something helpful/useful, this way we don't have 6 different threads about the same thing in a matter of a few days. What I'm proposing--
–"Who Should I Cosplay?" General Thread--
Kind of a no-brainer. We don't get too many of these, but sometimes, when one thread is made, it can get hijacked by another member, or a few duplicate threads get made as well. Why not just consolidate them all under one?–Commissions General Thread--
If you happen to want to do commissions or test the waters about making commissions, perhaps we can keep everything in one thread as well. However, it probably shouldn't be open to requests, otherwise, it'll just be spamming of "can someone make me this?" It would be better along the lines of someone saying that they are open do doing commissions and will have a queue of a few slots. Like, CosplayerA is really good at making marine coats and is willing to commission 4-5 of them. So the first 4-5 who want one post in the thread, they agree on the price and date due, and things can work out afterwards. If they all want stuff for the same convention, that's when it would pose a problem. But spread over a year or so, it could work. Also, it's obvious that there will have to be some negotiation talks with both parties to work out a schedule and everything. And we would have to keep things civil, due to it not just being the cost of materials, but also the cost of labor.A random request will work best in the general thread, but the commission therad can be focused on people doing one specific item, who have done multiple ones before. Things like specific coats, or convention friendly weapons, or even wig styling.
The first thread could work out really well, but the commissions thread, while being useful, could definitely pose some problems. What do you guys think?
-
sounds like a good idea…
have one just for photos.
Another one just for commisions
another one just for ideas. -
One for photos won't work because of the sheer number of threads and posts that have photos. There's already the Post OP Cosplayers that Impress You thread, along with each Convention+Year thread.
-
That actually sounds pretty cool Ichnob, I like it your thinking!!!!

just make an official cosplay thread only for stuff thats already finished..
Also another one that would have i need help with photos.
-
i was really thinking that myself about the "who should i cosplay as" i'll go bug some mods to go mash all them together. sound good?
i like the concept for the commission thread. i'm gonna do a bit more thinking on that one.
Edit: know what. the recent who should i cosplay as threads ahve already started sinking. i'm just gonna start a fresh one and get a mod to sticky it. that sounds even better. nice and clean start.

Anyone got tips for making a prison outfit? Planning on cosplaying as Cody from Street Fighter.
!
Planning on making it a one piece outfit unless its better if I make it into 2 pieces.
-
1. They sell stretchy striped fabric at the Fabric District, though it's more white and black like traditional prison stripes.
2. You're going to do it as one piece? So a body suit? Where will you hide the opening, in the back? A body suit with a back zipper sucks to close by yourself. It'll be easier to do it in two.
-
It would be easier but his outfit is a 1 piece and it doesn't have a seem or line that shows its 2 piece unless I tuck in the top piece under the bottom piece lol
I'll check out the fashion district and check the fabric out.
-
That really doesn't look like a jumpsuit, it's too form fitting (and not because of his muscles LOL), I really think thats a shirt and bottom. The material of a jumpsuit would be a little thicker too, that's really thin. It's 2 pieces.
-
Cody wears a one piece jail suit
If you want to go One Piece, they you are going to have to either do two things. A.) Have it zip up the back or B.) Have the legs and crotch snap close. Similar to how baby clothes are.
-
I thought by looking at the character that it was definitely not a two piece suit, thanks Omni for posting a full body pic where he wasn't leaning over!!!
Yeah, I am with Omni, putting a zipper in the back would probably be the best bet on a one piece. However, I don't recommend the snaps in the crotch, though..it does sound kinda..funny… xDD
-
Thanks omni haha I'll be going with the zipper on the back, it might be a pain to unzip and go to the bathroom lol.
-
My sis is off this Friday and Saturday, we're thinking of dressing up in some cosplay and taking pics. Haven't decided as what just yet, and also..wishing I had a more professional camera. It's on my long list of things I want to get which includes a new tablet, and a flat screen t.v., both of which can wait until I move out xD But the camera..would like to have that now.
-
Yea rain wanted a Nikon camera..
-
Finally uploaded a few pics from Comic Con. They're on our SK Cosplay Facebook page.

Omni..your husband is AMAZING __ It's too bad you guys don't live closer, I'd LOVE to learn a thing or 300 from him!! He's AMAZING!! I wanna cosplay Franky and am trying to figure out how to do the Chin.. GHNNNN.. I have an idea..but..I just want it to look decent and be able to wear it more than once.
-
lol Thanks. XD We haven't done any making of prosthetics yet, but we will be soon and on a large scale! I'm so nervous about it too. lol
I hope your Franky chin works out!
-
Yeah..I'm gonna commission some friends to make the Franky arms cause I love the way theirs look, I'm lazy, and I'd rather give my money to those in need of it xD Plus..My sis refuses to make them >__> AND..it's just for fun, I don't ever plan on being the best Franky by any means, but, he IS my fav character, and so that's the only reason I need to cosplay him! PLUS MY SIS IS GONNA COSPLAY ICEBURG. Do I need any other reason?? She's amazing, even cosplaying characters she doesn't want to for me. I wuvs her <3
Also..just noticed that.. This thread is almost at 10,000 posts __ YESS!! That means NEW GENERAL COSPLAY THREAD SOON x3 YEAH!! I'm very excited about that, we can spam the front page with all of our awesome cosplays guys __
-
Nothing wrong with commissioning! Although it is nice to make things yourself, if you can't do it and know you can't, there is no use in stressing out over making it!

! [qimg]http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/ac63/squidglue/mask-1.jpg[/qimg]That bird masks looks dreadfully familiar…i'd guess but if it's a super secret surprise, best let sleeping dogs lie ^-^
It's a wonderfully constructed mask. and it looks so stable and not too heavy for that single strap support. May I ask what it's made from? And even though i just did, may you answer it? ^^; hahaha
-
Hahahaha no it isn't a secret cosplay or anything. This is a Plague Doctor mask, based off the Plague Doctor from Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Which of course is based off of real life Plague Doctors.
Um…it is made from stuff and things....lol I'm not sure honestly what he made it out of. I know he made a clay model first and then made a cast of that and then did a plaster cast of it and stuff and things...yeah....
I'll ask him more about it, when he isn't napping. /goes to poke hubby with a poking stick.

Oh that makes sense facepalm I thought it was a character WHO just so happens to be based off of Plague Doctors as well hehehe.
Oh you don't need to go asking. The casting method is pretty much the answer I was looking for. As I'm learning to make props and replicas I'm always looking for the consumer friendly method that promises the best result. Didn't know if it was a supah awesome trade secret PX
-
This post is deleted!
-
Hahaha no no not a trade secret or anything. Although, he did say it was made out of resin, but that he tried to make it look like it was made out of plaster.

Franky arm…. I HATE YOU!!!!!

So I figure I'd sneak in and post in the last two cosplays I actually did. I haven't done any since Comic-con of last year sadly. I had started gaining weight due to medical issues, which you can sadly tell in my picture of my Lillith costume. And now that I'm finally done with my treatments I'm losing weight again so I'm planning my Hancock and Boa costumes finally. Gotta get my self in shape for those soooo much.
So anyways here are two of my last cosplays
Lilith from Darkstalkers
!
and Rogue from Xmen - more 90s cartoon style Rogue
!
-
Ahhhhh nice _
Alright, got sort of an inspiration because it'll get me free stuff no matter what I do, revamping Dofla now. It's got to be more accurate for this particular contest so I can't wear the pink heels ;A; Got 2 weeks to get it done, so I better get on it >> I think the coat is gonna have to be completely redone, ugh XP But this time I can do it with A/C on ** So hopefully its not as terrible and miserable and fail XD

LOVE your Rogue cosplay! I'd love to be able to cosplay her someday, she's such an awesome character. So much better than the new version (90's all the way!)

Thankies I loveeeed dressing up as Rogue. And her 90s version was more meaningful to me b/c my preteen/teen years were spent watching the Xmens cartoon :D
Can't wait til I can lose some more weight and actually wear Robin or Hancock cosplay
-
It turns out that franky arm wasn't thrown away or stolen it turn out that rain had it at her house
-
i really like both your cosplays, jewelry. my one complaint, is that it looks like those wings got no support? if I'm right, you need to put some wires in there girl. :) high five for dark stalkers btw.
and arei, where you going in 2 weeks?
-
Thank you captain usopp. Yeah my wings definitely needed stronger wires and one of the problems was the amount of people at comic con. I was constantly folding the wings in and out to get around crowds. And omg riding the bus from our hotel to comiccon. I ended up wrapping my wings around myself and my friend so we could both fit lol.
-
ah. never thought of that part. :\ that's frustrating.

Yeah, I found comic-con to be QUITE different than other cons. Soooooooooooo many people. Before that the biggest con I think I'd been to was Otakon or Akon. I found out that when I was in my Rogue costume I was posing…. a lot. It was my boyfriends first time being with me while i was cosplaying. At one point he walked off, went to get us food, came back 40 mins later, was worried I'd be pissed cuz he took so long and I was STILL posing in the same spot. It was definitely a different experience.
Looooooove comic-con tho, can't wait to go back. :D Next year I'm going and I'm doing a slave Leia from Return of the Jedi >.<
-
maybe it's just me, but I don't think I can get that excited for Comic con except maybe about the art xD I'm more into cosplaying anime than comic characters though the cosplay there does look amazing u I'm actually still missing Otakon T_T it's FAR bigger than A-Kon to me… definitely better if you consider how much is close to the con within walking distance to eat. At A-Kon... I know of like 3 places to eat D: unless you can take the dart to places? I've never tried it xD
also, got new Kizaru wig today u

Comic con sounds really exciting to me, I would love to go someday!! To me it sounds more diverse than a typical animu convention, it seems like a bit of a different crowd, I'm sure there are still anime cosplays there, right?
-
oh ya. actually, toronto is having it's big Fan Expo this weekend. the biggest in Canada. They had it in the news last night. so many awesome things, and costumes. The news caster even said, "if you think these costumes we showed were good, tomorrow night is the masquerade. people save their best stuff for that" I'd go, but I wanna save money, and I need a break from all my running around. AND I spent all my money on food last night.
hey! come visit me next year and we'll go! I'll get my group of friends up here to go with us. :)
-
Comic-con is REALLY fun and we did see a lot of anime cosplayers as well. Actually saw a couple One Piece cosplays. I know we saw a Zoro.
Comic-con is pretty heavy on the comic and scifi cosplay side tho. It is so much fun though. I loved it. Of course I'm a pretty big scifi and comic geek too. I totally fan girled when I met my idol Leonard Nimoy (still squeal over that and its been a year since then).
I really wanted to go to Akon this year, it was the first year in awhile that I haven't gone. But I just moved to Texas so I'll definitely be going in 2011.
-
My last (and first) cosplay was Rukia.
My sister made the kimono, but because my mum is lazy and believes EVERYTHING HAS TO BE DIFFERENT, it was a little… strange.
gah.
I hate hairspray D< she forced me to use it for the little bit of hair, then it went all dry and manky D;
and I didn't have the bottom half so I had to wear black trousers...
and trainers.
my friend went as School girl Rukia ad she was so much better, I felt like a noob D:
serves me right for wanting to go for something like that ._.
Thank god there are NO PICTURES WHATSOEVER of it...
though I did lose the game whilst wearing that outfit because of this guy dressed in white (Kaito Kid apparently, he was too epic X'D)
Hoping to do Young Iceburg this time :) should be better.
And scary, because I'm doing the 14/16 year old version of him, not the 28/30 year old version or the 36/38 year old version... (has no idea how old he actually is lol) -
eh, i wouldn't worry. my costumes arn't perfect either. at least you can blame your imperfections on your mom, right. ;) did you have fun?

I'm pretty much into scifi anc comics myself, just as much as anime. So I think I would definitely enjoy myself. I know my bf has been wanting to go for years, so I'm sure we will! Hopefully by that time I will have reached my goal weight and measurements and I can cosplay a sexy comic book babe like Rogue or Catwoman u
Oooh you moved to Texas? Cool, hope to see you at next year's A-kon then!
-

Ohyes.
Shame the con died because Borders was closed sob
It was called ReCon.
I went to the first and the last one in Teesside Park ;)
The only con we have up here s NemaCon, and I couldn't go to the first one because of mum
guuuh…
at least I can go to next ears one, and by then I'll be 16 and would have left school, so might be able to dye hair blue 8'D been wanting to do that for ages...
Knowing my luck, a certain someone won't allow that.
So. Many. Restrictions.
guuh. oh well
At least I had fun at ReCon ;)
also, when it comes to NemaCon, might make a mini thread for it on here for those who can get to it...
headdesk shame I'm probably one of the only few who lives in the North East of England... -
crawls out of a hole uhm… is it wrong to dress up like a video game character at NYC comicon? I'm going as velvet and my friend is going as gwendolyn from odin sphere 6_6;;
-
no way! be different! you can be anything you want at a comic con. hell, I've seen comic characters, and even disney characters at anime conventions so why not the reverse.
-
great! I just reunited with an old friend and she's suddenly way into cosplay so she's basically making my costume while I flutter around her begging to be of help. She's also making me 2 Boa Hancock costumes for Otakon 2011 XD Finally!
She wanted to know if we could get a group together for otakon OP cosplay, but I'm not sure how that goes down around here LOL.
-
you ask. and hope people reply.
-
Maggie you're going to Otakon next year??? HOLY CRAP!!! That'll be soo soo amazingly AWESOME xD We already reserved a room now all that's left to do is get plane tickets and save money until next year __ YEAH!!! I'm sooo excited that we'll hopefully get to meet you :D :D :D
