i'm in new zealand but
nope!
-
=O
YES
YES
A MILLION TIMES YES!Wow, just found out about this. I didn't really stress too much about watching them, so i just kinda forgot about funimation, then suddenly my love for the anime comes rushing back! this is amazing. With only one coming out per month, i've got plenty of money to purchase them. Good lord, I'm so excited!
-
YES, omg, finally!! :D
-
Australia for the win people :D haha
But i would just rather subs…
Don't like dubbed version :S -

Don't like dubbed version :SYou get both the original japnese with proffesional subbing and the dub. I think it's good to have the dub on the DVD as well, because you can lend them to a friend, who can then get into it.
It's the funimation dub too, so it's not like we should be complaining about 'zolo' and 'lollipops'.
-

Australians are xenophobes too, now?
-
I'm in NZ, but yes! I already have the Funimation DVDs but I want Madman to keep releasing One Piece, so I will be buying their releases. I've got collection 1 one pre-order from Australia, but I'll probably wait for local releases for the rest. There seems to be a 2 month delay between Aus and NZ for Madman's releases.
It will be interesting to see how the video quality stacks up compared to the US release. In my experience, Madman generally does fairly poor PAL conversions for their DVDs but maybe they'll do better this time.
If only Chuang Yi had a licence for the manga… It would be nice to have Madman distribute a non-Vizified version of the manga. I like their version of Fullmetal Alchemist much better than the Viz version.
-
I actaully boguht a new dvd player, just to get madmans dragonball releases.
I got them at just the right time, when the New Zealand dollar was very low too.
But these One Piece "collections" are 13 episodes for 50$, no thanks. -
I'll at least get a few of them. They'll probably be too expensive to buy long term when I'll only watch them a few times, but I'm gonna enjoy hearing a fresh dub and having commentaries should be amusing. >> I'm glad they're finally being released here!
-
Damn you Aussie's are lucky.
I hope one day we get One Piece in the UK too.
Seems like we're about the only English speaking country that doesn't have it now. -
Actually, this brings up something I've wondered about for quite a while. What is the anime culture like in Australia? I mean… Japan is practically right next door compared to North America.
-
in all honesty i would say that Australia's anime culture is the pretty much the same as America and we may be closer to japan than America but not close enough to effect our culture at all .that being said Australia having a significantly smaller population than America
means that we have a smaller market than america so the sales are smaller but the licensing still cost the same so lest gets licensed over here . plus theres only to company's licensing and distributing anime over her and one of them madman owns at least 80% although the fact that we don't have to dub the anime and the yanks have already done it helps out and there are some good thing like as mentioned above some off the manga we get is translated in Singapore by chaung yi witch sometimes oddly enough n my experience results in a more accurate and better flowing translation than some of Americas such as Fullmetal alchemist (not to mention on better quality paper and removable slip cover also if you want to buy pokemon special manga try to find chaung yi english translation there releas are far ahead viz's)oh and to answer the question yes i will be buying Madman's release of one piece
-
I probably would have bought them if they came out at the same time as the US but now that I own all the manga volumes there doesn't seem to be a point. I may get some of the volumes like Arlong, Little Garden, Drum, Jaya but I have already spent so much on One Piece thanks to the speed up.

I'm not being in any way racist in this post
We have a lot of Asians in Australia, but not many of them buy official releases. The pure amount of anime stores that stock near entirely bunt disks is crazy.
And most of the figurines and whatnot are all just imports from Taiwan.
None of the main stores like K-mart, Big W, Target (think wallmart), stock madman releases. I think I found one Naruto DVD in Big W once.
The biggest Anime/Manga convention in queensland had about 200 people in it, it was in the top floor of a hotel, it was crowded and small, with about six stalls in one room.
New South Wales has a much larger Asian community and has much bigger conventions.
At my school, there's a lot of anime fans, but only 3 of them are white. Everyone's mainly just into fansubs. I mean, when I told some of my friends about certain series being released on DVD, they'd just say;
"Hey I've already got that on my portable hard drive, do you want it?"
So basically, the anime community doesn't spend much money. That's just the 15 - 18 year old I know anyway.
-
At those prices, you'll be spending over 2000 dollars to even get what is out thus far….too much to sink into a single anime series imo.

It's basically $3.80 an episode. I guess it's a bit pricey, but I'll hopefully win their art competition and get vouchers.

where's the "I'm American and fucking lucky" option?

Haha, you're so right. Americans…

your probably one of those yanks that doesn't relise the rest of the world doesn't like you

Probably because the rest of the world can't get over themselves.
"oooh i met an ignorant, stuck up american so all of them are like that over there!".
-
I'm not sure if I will buy the Madman release, they announced that they were going to do it about a month after I finally caved and imported some of the DVDs. The American release has better box art.
I do wish we could have Chuang Yi release One Piece in English. Their release of Fullmetal Alchemist didn't edit any of the art, including when Greed died, and the religious references are intact.
About anime in Australia, from what I've noticed alot of people just think of Naruto when you mention anime. Most of the time what you buy is either directly from America or imported from America by Madman. So you either get Viz or Viz with the Madman logo slapped onto it. The only places you can buy it are in the major cities or online. Unless you want to wait for a yearly convention to stock up on everything. I guess the market can't be too bad if there is someone in your university lecture watching Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood on their laptop :p
-
I'll rent it first to check the quality - I want to know what I am spending my money on before I go sinking large amounts of hard earned cash on it.
-
your probably one of those yanks that doesn't relise the rest of the world doesn't like you
hahaha, so who were you again?
-
@Badass:
You know, we have Targets in America.
I don't know of any shops in America, never been there. :P
Well, basically, Target or any of the big ones don't sell anime.
-
I prefer subs, i always seem to find dubs very cheesy

Lmfao oh ok. Like subs doesn't like to be cheesy as hell.

what? i just prefer the original voice actor, they always seem to suit the character more, its hard to find a good dub voice that can match the original.
-
Japan isn't that close to Australia. I run into a lot of people who seem to get that idea for some reason
We're still like a 9-10 hour plane trip away on average. It's like us saying, "Wow you Americans are so much closer to Morocco than we are. They must have such a big cultural impact on you guys!" Japan is pretty much just as close to us as Hawaii is I think.
Anyway my answer to the question is, yeah I'll probably start buying them once they catch up to the US releases, or are at least a month or two behind. We'll see what happens.
-

You realize, however, that these sets will include the Japanese version with a subtitle track too right?
-

I think the a point of a dub isn't to have a the best match that equals the Japanese voice actors, its suppose to use their own Voice actors to see if it fits the character not the previous VA.
-
The point of a dub is so they can air it on TV and so non anime fanboy/girls can watch it without a hassle. But as has been said before, the original japanese is there with professional subbing and no 'nakama'.
