Chapter 595: "Oath" Discussion
-
-
Drake challenging an emperor is the best supernova debut for me.
What about entering the biggest and deadliest battle to date?
-
Very true! Iva seems to simply been bidding his time in "The Land of Dreams" LOL. I don't think we've seen the best of his fighting ability either, remember when he told Kuma he would make him remember fear LOL classic.
How can I not?! That scene was priceless can't wait to see it in the anime. "No one ever in my life ever met me and forgot my face" -iva "Yup that's understandable" -iva henchmen nodding.
As for current topic I'm really liking Drake right now taunting Kaidou was badass didn't think Kidd would be top off but Drake just dino stomped all the novas for me. Then again next chapter might show a dead dinosaur with Kaidou standing on it, so shouldn't get my hopes up on him to much. That said I do not want to see next time we see basil him standing on top of bronzebeard, want to see the fight between the both of them.
-
Drake challenging an emperor is the best supernova debut for me.
but still i don
t get here his actions..it
s cool and dump in the same way.
he sure wnats to reach for the top as soon as possible, but he as an former marine should know that going against an emperor isnt that easy.. so he has to be rly confident in his skills OR he don
t wnat to beat Kaidou..
more like maybe having to chance to talk to him for a plan he is up to^^
wouldn`t be a bad twist in my opinion for Drake. -
Drake challenging an emperor is the best supernova debut for me.
It was great yeah too bad for him he is going to get owned really soon. This might mean we get to see Kaidou!
-
What about entering the biggest and deadliest battle to date?
That's fine. But Drake is basically picking a fight with one of the strongest people in the world, which makes it even more interesting going forward. It leaves us hanging.

I'm interested precisely for WHY he's done this.
Braggadocio? OR something more. Given his former title, I suspect the latter.
-
It's Guild Wars 2, which is an upcoming MMORPG for PC.
rageeee, i whored out guild wars and went on a media blackout for guild wars 2…
but dang, that looks pretty insane!
-
i doubt he did it for sole reason of wanting to fight him.
i mean ace went to challenge whitebeard way back, so who knows maybe drake is doing same.
ace had a reason though, so i'm sure drake does too beyond just upstart rookie going after big shot.
-

Braggadocio? OR something more. Given his former title, I suspect the latter.
The battle had two yonkou's albeit the 2nd was at the end three admirals and thousands of marines and sengoku etc id say more of a threat than kaidou
im the beka of Law but better. -

i think he sure gambles here a bit to go to Kaidou who could be unpredictable.
but he also should know without risking a bit he wont reach anything at the NW. also his offer could be of a kind which both parties will gain something from and Drake for sure saves so his save place in the upcoming new era.. i think that what he
s right now aiming for. -

im the beka of Law but better. But he didn't really go there to fight them. Risking going there is something in itself, but he didn't try to instigate anything.

-

Drake seems like a "good" guy, so I don't think there'll be an alliance of any kind, as what little of kaidou we know suggest he will be more along the lines of sakazuki.
He risked a lot even being there let alone taking luffy with akainu on his ass.
-
Drake seems like a "good" guy, so I don't think there'll be an alliance of any kind, as what little of kaidou we know suggest he will be more along the lines of sakazuki.
this alliance could be just for little while.
I doubt Drake would make an attached alliance with Kaidou..maybe just using him for a little while and than doing again his own stuff.
or else i rly don`t see any hope what future role Drake should have when it rly comes to an interaction with Kaidou.
That Oda would let his emporer being defeated by Drake i think is out of question. -
He risked a lot even being there let alone taking luffy with akainu on his ass.
Yes I said that, he risked being attacked by some of the strongest people in the world.
Drake is actually trying to get one of the strongest people in the world to attack him.
There's a difference of instigation.
@Don:

Thing is though, im sure drake isn't planning on fighting kaidou
-
it could also mean his purpose is just to make Kaidou angry, or showing him that the new era has begun.
kind of like a statement that he wont accept the position of Kaidou and that Kaidou
s status on some island is nowadays worth shit. -
Could be. We'll see.
Just shows how well this chapter has set the stage for the new world.
Of course, we still have Fishman Island yet…which we thought would be "soon" since the end of Enies Lobby.
-
thats another thing that is kind of weird…it doesn
t seem like any SN had any problems passing it.. they all reached the NW without having trouble there, even when it already wasn
t anymore under WB protection.
kind of weird that only Luffy will sure get there in troubles and maybe Law.don`t know but maybe there is a way to pass through FI without having to interact much with the island.
Luffy for sure stops there everywhere to have some adventure:happy: -
They should all have had to stop off to wait for their log poses to reset.
But FI's problem was bounty hunters, slavers & pirates, and I suspect it would take the strong ones a while to get back there anyway.
Plus we're only seeing snapshots of the other crews, they could have had huge problems in FI we're not privy to.
-
okay. We see here that Apoo is "double-jointed" like the guys who kidnapped Brook. They may work for Apoo. Brook meets Apoo
-
Luffy re-invaded Marineford.
Zoro is probably still trying to figure out the message.
Law is chilling in the first half of the Grandline.
Capone is being sucked up by a giant ship (island?).
Urogue is exploring the New World and buying umbrellas.
Apoo is running in thin air from a pack of boars.
Hawkins is progressing through the New World and took out Brownbeard.
Kidd is moving through the New World and took out some pirates retreating to "Paradise".
Killer is with Kidd.
Drake is instigating a Yonkou by taking out one of his subordinates.
Bonney chased after Blackbeard, was defeated, and is now in Akainu's possession.Drake is making the boldest (and most exciting) New World debut of the Supernovas but if we're talking about in general. Blackbeard is making the best New World debut. He already took out a Supernova, burned down an island, and is headed onwards.
But more on topic of what was being discussed the best debut overall for the Supernovas regardless of where they're at I'd give to Luffy. He made in the newspaper after all. Twice.
-
@Mr:
okay. We see here that Apoo is "double-jointed" like the guys who kidnapped Brook. They may work for Apoo. Brook meets Apoo
Apoo is in the new world, Brook is in the grand line(we assume the first part for obvious reasons).
-
I haven't read all thread so someone could already suggest it. Oda showed us all or most of first islands in routes after FI, so there is possibility that Strawhats will land on one of those islands after their adventures on FI.
-
@Mr:
okay. We see here that Apoo is "double-jointed" like the guys who kidnapped Brook. They may work for Apoo. Brook meets Apoo
I doubt that Brook will meet Apoo in-person. However, perhaps Apoo's crazy musical stunts aren't entirely Devil Fruit based. I mean, sure, turning his body into an instrument is probably a Devil Fruit, but using music to attack his foes seems like it could be learned, and might be a special technique within the Longarm Tribe or something that Brook will learn.
-
also the double jointed guys are from the same tribe Apoo comes from.
we dont know how many differnet double-jointed tribes exist but we could consider (cause Apoo also come from the GL) that they may or may not know Apoo. that they work for him..i guess not cause they
re into showing "curious" people to the world while Apoo is a pirate. -

Yeah, Drake has a lot going for him, so I doubt he will be taken out. He stood out as one of the more prepared and reasonable rookies at Saboady, stopping Urouge and Killer's fight and then being wary about the Pacifista and Kizaru. As an ex-Marine– and Rear Admiral to boot-- he has the advantage of being an information outlet for Oda as well as being one of two extremely rare Zoans shown to date. Speaking of, Oda intentionally hid Drake's Zoan form in Saboady, and once again gives us an unclear view; to me that speaks for itself.
-
True, I get the feeling he might be waiting for luffy so they can fight but hopefully thats not the case, Laws the best. besides who saved the main character? has a submarine ship, a talking bear that knows karatie? LAW! <bromance< blockquote="">Law and Luffy will be like Roger and Whitebeard. Fighting one day, and drinking bear the next.
I think those two will have a cool competition friendship, Law already saved Luffy.</bromance<> -

I mean, sure, turning his body into an instrument is probably a Devil Fruit, but using music to attack his foes seems like it could be learned, and might be a special technique within the Longarm Tribe or something that Brook will learn.
Well, we've seen Brook's music can affect people on the psychological level. For instance making them fall asleep or, as been hinted at in recent chapters, raising a person's fighting spirit. Is there a technique that can make Brook's music actually hurt people and do physical damage?
Personally, I hope not. Apoo's technique seems cheap enough (play some music and blow somebody to pieces from the inside out). I'd rather like the idea of that technique just being a DF ability thus the power is unique to the one who ate it, Apoo.
-
Thing is though, im sure drake isn't planning on fighting kaidou
If his plan is not to fight him which I think is not, he must be really confident that Kaidou won't be pissed at him for fighting/killing that dude too much to kill him.
-

though in same way it could be reversed. Maybe oda finds it hard to make it work very well this t-rex fruit, and thus he showed it a little more clearer this chapter to satisfy us, but then also now has him beaten off screen and thus Oda dodges the bullet of having ot make a t-rex fruit work well and look good.
and we are left with the mystery and the speculation and thinking the fruit is so cool. -
They should all have had to stop off to wait for their log poses to reset.

Plus we're only seeing snapshots of the other crews, they could have had huge problems in FI we're not privy to.
The point was made before that everyone of supernovas have taken a different path to SA which may indicate that not all of their log poses are pointed at fish island. So it is possible that just passed through FI and went to whatever island is past it. I do not think it has been confirmed either way, but this would explain why everyone has such different paths after the new world.
Law and Luffy will be like Roger and Whitebeard. Fighting one day, and drinking bear the next.
I think those two will have a cool competition friendship, Law already saved Luffy.Drinking a bear might be rather dangerous for them, I doubt Bepo would like it very much.
Anyways I am sure they will maintain somekind of rivarly, not sure if it will be one where they fight, Luffy is not the kind to fight unless given a good reason.
-
I think they all point to fishman island.
I'm not in a position to check now, but there should be a picture in the last crocus chapter showing this.
-

Are you honestly suggesting Oda is afraid of using something he introduced, and as such is sweeping it under the rug to avoid potential failure?
I think they all point to Fishman Island. I'm not in a position to check now, but there should be a picture in the last crocus chapter showing this.
According to Crocus' and Shakky's explanation, they don't converge. Shakky said in 498 that the other six paths all run into the Red Line and have to go to Saboady to get through.
-
http://read.mangashare.com/One-Piece/chapter-105/page008.html
it shows that not every path end here at one island, but non the less FI is the only way through the Red Line.
but still the Log Ports could be directed to the next island in the NW thats why the SN all take different roads. -
According to Crocus' and Shakky's explanation, they don't converge. Shakky said in 498 that the other six paths all run into the Red Line and have to go to Saboady to get through.
Huh.
So they could indeed just bypass FI altogether.
-
So they could indeed just bypass FI altogether.
Yeah. It's interesting to think that stopping there could change their route completely though, so it makes me wonder how Oda will handle the island, given it's a tourist attraction and all.
-
On a related note, how long does it take for Log Poses to switch their course?
Nami has been on a Sky Island for about a month now. Her log pose might have changed it's navigational direction by now and it's even more likely given the apparent timeskip. It's moot since they have the vivrecards but I'm curious about whether Oda will bring it up during Nami's adventures. -
@ultimateclima:

Only islands with a magnetic field can rewrite the log pose, so the sky island she is on probably won't rewrite it. Nami worries about it happening at the start of Saboady, so the time it takes is probably not that long. Edit: It's also worth noting that islands outside of the Grand Line don't affect the log pose.
-
Law and Luffy will be like Roger and Whitebeard. Fighting one day, and drinking bear the next.
I think those two will have a cool competition friendship, Law already saved Luffy.I hope, personally If i wasn't so attached to the current crew i wouldnt mind if one piece was about the heart pirates because law is pretty awesome

Weatheria balances on top of bubbles, it may not even have a magnetic field, thus the pose would never reset.

I am sure that Nami's has switched, but I am very confident that the next island they visit is fishman island. Oda has been teasing us with that island ever since they left Water 7.
-
The best passing clue of Oda's this chapter is to me Drake's Haki Mihawk eyes. I'm thinking that Drake has developed a similar kind of awareness boosting haki, though probably to a lesser degree.

During Skypeia was the log pose pointing towards Sypeia or upperyard?
-
Drake is getting smashed.
-
@AMS:
During Skypeia was the log pose pointing towards Sypeia or upperyard?
It was pointing towards Jaya. 'Upper Yard' is part of Jaya.
-
@Darkstorm/Brennen I thought the log pose was pointing towards Skypiea and not Upperyard. If Sky Islands don't have magnetic fields I don't get why the log pose would be round then. Same thing with Fishman island since I'm assuming the "island" is something different than the other islands on the land.

Glad to see somebody else think the same way, but the beginning of the thread gave examples of other people having these eyes.
I checked and for sure Luffy had these eyes when facing the cat-sea monster in Alabasta.
It could still be very significant possibly. -
What's up with the Looney Toon island Apoo was on?
-

-
It was pointing towards Jaya. 'Upper Yard' is part of Jaya.
Overtime I think they got different magnetic pulls, given that the log pose never once pointed down at Jaya when they were they.
Anyways given that bit of information I would assume that no sky island would reset a log pose. So there should be no worries that their log pose will reset.
@ultimateclima:

Fishman island makes sense because there are still minerals and junk at the bottom of the ocean. It was my understanding the unique make-up of all the island on the grandline is what gave their strong magnetic pulls. Since sky islands are made out of clouds they would not have the same issues. Of course I could be wrong, but I recall them setting their log pose on Upper yard and not skypeia.
-
It varies from island to island, remember little garden took years, others took days.
@AMS:
It varies from island to island. It can be hours, days, weeks, months or in the case of little garden a year.
I think he/she was referring to how long it takes for the pose to rewrite, not lock on to the next island…? As in, you go to an island that your pose is NOT locking on to, and then it rewrites to that islands course instead.
@ultimateclima:
@Darkstorm/Brennen I thought the log pose was pointing towards Skypiea and not Upperyard. If Sky Islands don't have magnetic fields I don't get why the log pose would be round then. Same thing with Fishman island.
It was definitely pointing to Upper Yard, that's one of the reasons the crew needed to rush to for the knock up stream. Nami said that if they stayed an extra day on Jaya, the log pose would lock on to the next island. The same conversation more or less occurred when everyone laughed at Nami in the bar about the existence of sky islands. Edit: Are you assuming Fishman Island isn't a physical island? Edit: Hahaha, the chapter at Jaya is called "Why the Log Pose is round"
