Dude. Holy shit. I love this new Scooby Doo. I'm so following this series now.
-
I never thought a Scooby Doo series could grab my attention this much.
I mean…..it's freaking awesome.
-
On second viewing, I think I'm even more impressed by the series than I was originally. One thing that I liked is the total absence of an opening theme song; the zombie moans and tolling bell does a good job establishing the mood.
Nice to hear a Vincent van Ghoul reference in there as well. K-Ghoul being 104.1 on the AM dial though?
-
Minor fortyniner shoutout and fred's trap obsessions were fun.

I loved all the old monster cameos.
I was feelin mighty nostalgic…..:happy:EDIT: Ha! Lewis Black is the voice of Mr. E! Awesome! Don't know how I didn't notice!
-
When I saw the Miner 49er, I nostalgia'd so hard.
-
The only exposure I've gotten to this new Scooby series so far has been the numerous promos on CN, and it honestly didn't look too interesting at all to me
But so far after reading so many comments about how good this turns out to be, I guess I'll have to catch it later :P -

Don Knotts being one of the people in Velma's tour group was a nice touch considering how many times he was on the show. Wasn't one of his last acting jobs that Scooby Doo sketch on Robot Chicken?
-
I completely forgot to mention that. I almost screamed at my screen like a little kid when I saw him.
-
We may need to separate the Mysterys Inc stuff to another thread with all that's filling up here.
Great pilot honestly: the fact that it refers to the old series and actually shows these meddling kids in HS like was inferred back then was a nice touch, as was the more active Velma. And…the Daphne clone sisters scared me.
Now all they need to do is untangle every single relative they ever had and reveal once and for all which ones are the real ones now that we got the parents. (seriously those guys had tons)
-
Who was the radio jockey lady that they went to see? I really liked her, but I was a little confused as to where she came from.
-
Judging by the end of the episode, Shaggy might work there. Fred might as well.
One of the sisters' seemed to be wearing Daphne's jumpsuit from The Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby Doo. The others might be injokes as well. Beyond Velma's sister in the last film, the only character I know of that was shown to have a sibling was Shaggy in A Pup Named Scooby Doo. Plenty of cousins for Daphne though. Of course, the parents in this were completely different from anything that we've ever seen before.
I forgot to mention this earlier, but I was flipping around and caught the song on Total Drama World Tour. I'm kinda surprised that they got away with that.
-

I should have sworn I seen her somewhere before. Even the music they were listening to had a similar feel to it. It's either bad memory or a new character.

I'm not sure how I like this new Scooby Doo series. On face value, there's not as much Scooby, although I like the more serious approach the cartoon is taking. I agree with many, the revival movies were excellent, and despite my reservations about the art this looks like a modern fast-track to that kind of quality.
There's too much surreal stuff, though. I understand this cartoon's paying homage to the original in little ways but mixed together it's really kind of creepy -
1. The kids are in high school. I'd originally taken the Mystery Machine gang from the first cartoon to be hippie-like adolescents about to enter college, or on break from college, traveling around for concerts or festivals or whatever vacation/sightseeing was their interest.
2. The timeless quality of the atmosphere. Velma talks of texting, while Fred's still wearing his '50's style neckerchief.
3. The parents. This was probably the most weird. Shaggy has a new voice actor, but his Dad's voice actor is almost certainly the original Shaggy replacement since Zombie Island, making me feel like these are the kids of the original gang.
4. Velma is aggressively pursuing Shaggy. Maybe I simply haven't met a lot of assertive women in my life, but it's putting me off. >O
5. The kids were thrown in jail, and their antics are frowned upon as juvenile and dangerous. It's that same GR:OVA/G-R dichotomy that kind of asserts the original series was illusory, and makes me feel uncomfortable.Otherwise, kick-arse cartoon.
-
Wait… is that Brock Samson?
-
It's Patrick Warburton, so in a matter of speaking yes.
-
If he does more voices on the show, it might be worth watching.
I'm still watching the first episode, so I have no strong opinions one way or ther other yet.
-

Besides playing him in the first two live action films, Matthew Lillard voiced Shaggy in the last DTV film so he's not really new.

How did you come to that conclusion? The Sheriff said that they got in his way too often while solving mysteries, Velma knew all of the monsters were fake, and there was also some mention of how they ruined Crystal Cove's tourist attractions; namely, the monsters. Nothing about that remotely suggests that Scooby Doo, Where Are You! was an illusion.
-
That episode actually gave me a few good laughs. Not too bad. It's funny how Fred, my least favorite character has now become my favorite with his trap obsession. It's also weird how I found his cluelessness to Daphne's advances funny, when that stuff usually falls flat on me. The writing on that is just top-notch. The biggest laughs for me were Fred's trap terribly failing (as they usually do) and the teacher salary joke.
I think that Terek brought up the points that got on my nerves, particularly 3 and 4, and I'm not sure I like the episode continuity or general obviousness of the mysteries, but otherwise it's the reboot the series needed. It's not trying to move away from the older incarnations, but play off the camp value of it and I like that.

While it was never stated outright and so can't technically be contradicted by this series, it was implied that most of the mystery incidents in the first series were in isolated areas around the country. As I said before, my childhood impression of Mystery Inc. was they tended to get involved in stuff as an unintended consequence of their prolonged road trips. Thus, for a good number of the famous Scooby monsters featured in a gallery at a single location, and were implied to have been native to that location, it gives me the impression that the original series was largely imaginative, like how the babies in Rugrats saw things in gross exaggeration of how adults perceived them. The distance of the road trips were exaggerated, the faraway locations of the monsters were within the same county (since the Sheriff seems familiar with their antics) and the town's attitude toward the Mystery Inc. gang, that of annoyance, suggests the mysteries weren't as grandiose as they were in the first show.
Plus, the issue of there being actual consequences of being meddling kids, and there being actual parents, really set a tone far different from the original series. It's hard to accept the original could go on as long as it did, presented how it was, if according to this universe there are consequences for their snooping.
Zombie Island, I felt, was much more convincing at establishing a connection to the first series. This show is not that movie, and does a fairly original approach in doing so, but it still feels eerie.
-
They were teenagers in a stoner caravan. Of course the trips seemed long and the places foreign.
-
"Freddy stole a BODY!"
Its kinda creepy…This show is more serious and it shows...

I hate to admit it, but claiming the gang was high during their original adventures sort of explains everything. xD

This gives me fond memories of the time they were on Harvey Birdman.
-
I always assumed the Mystery Machine was some hippy contraption.
-
I just take this as a brand new show that is using elements of the older ones to nostalgiafy us.
I still wanna see Redd Herring ^__^
-
I think in a way they are trying to maybe work with the classic elements but fuse them with a modern and darker sensibility. Some of these monsters for all we know could have been elsewhere but they just took the costume (or in the robot's case, the whole thing…I always liked that episode with the robot due to how freaky it was) and put it in the Dinkley's museum just to say "these are some samples of what we've had to put up with, home or not". Besides, considering that something similar happened in the early seasons of Ben 10 Alien Force (most of the alien threats being within a range where they could get there through Kevin's car...compared to the US road trip of the original series), it isn't too outlandish to wonder the range by which these meddling kids ran around during those days.
-
Why do I know about the Looney Tunes Show but have heard nothing about this new scooby doo
http://www.cartoonbrew.com/classic/more-looney-tunes-character-designs.html
nice. the designs look promising. they have that old retro feel from back in the old days. but still, i may consider watching it.

I'm not quite sure what your talking about.
-
Considering that there were several scenes set at the same juke joint/restaurant, the similar settings for most episodes, and the fact that the same Sheriff showed up more than once, I think most of the episodes of Scooby Doo Where Are You! were supposed to be set in the same general area.

FINALLY!!!
Gotta say, the art doesn't look half bad. Perhaps now I'll finally have a reason to watch CN again, other than for Adult Swim.
-
Looks interesting. Although, that younger male chara looks kinda like a DBZ bishi drop-out. lol.
I like the art. I hope it's as great as it looks.

Lol new scooby doo was on the soup

[hide]Shaggy/Velma…[/hide]
That surprised me. o3o; I never thought of that.
-
This post is deleted!
-
! I guess I must be blind. xD I've just never really thought of shippings in Scooby Doo, besides Daphne/Fred, which was already introduced to me when I was little and I didn't bother questioning it.
-
[hide]Okay, what the fuck!
Shaggy/Velma! Seriously?
I wouldn't have an issue with it if it were a slow and growing relationship in the series, but episode one, we just have to accept that Velma wants to go down on Shaggy in the backseat of van while everyone is around.

What makes it most creepy is the relationship seems mutual, while Daphne crushing on Fred always seemed one-sided aside from the joke cameo in Johnny Bravo.
Not to mention, both Fred and Daph are dense enough to either not notice or misinterpret any "turbulence" in the van's backseat.
-
What ever happened to those crummy movie pairings? When Shaggy fell in love with that one girl… um... Juana? I know there was a weed joke there.
-
Yeah, Shag/Velma seems grating and only there for the sake of pairing the remaining guy/girl.
-
Is Fred/Daphne THAT BORING that we have to have the other two having sex now?
Though I have to admit, they are drawing Velma sexy…

Yes. Yes it is.
Well, to be fair, I've never really liked Scooby Doo that much. I think the only series I ever truly liked was A Pup Named Scooby Doo, and this new one looks pretty cool too.
-

In almost every 'recent' Scooby Doo movie, Shaggy has some sort of love interest. It's strange. It makes me miss the old Scooby Doo episodes and movies…
Hell, the latest movie, Abracadabra Doo, Shaggy was with Velma's sister!
-
I think the new Fred/Daphne stuff is funny because it's playing off the camp of the old show. Shaggy/Velma is just fanfiction.
-
I always thought Daphne had a thing for Shaggy, since she was the only other original character hold-over in The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo and was often in revealing clothing while around Shaggy.
-
Nah she's just a whore :ninja:
I have seen this episode actualy and I realy like this new Velma , but is it me or did they just forcefully include the "jinkies" at the last minute into one sentence so the fans wouldn't tar and feather them ?
Oh and I like that it does show Shaggy having other interests besides eating , that kinda makes me believe he's a teen and not this weird alien thing that can eat twice the amount of it's own weight :ninja:
