I haven't watched Enies Lobby in the anime but I've heard that it's stretched out considerably.

One Piece will change your life

One Piece is the BEST. I don't understand how some people say the drawing is 'ugly'. Oda can fucking draw and they look awesome. So do continue watching/reading!
-
^Maybe because they watch the anime.
-
I've started watching One Piece and i am currently on episode 10, i've heard it's a great Anime but something i'm concerned about is the light hearted feel of the show, does it become more serious at any point along the way? Are there character conflicts, development, etc? All i've seen so far is a rubber kid that, besides his relationship with that red headed pirate, has absolutely no conflicts with himself and is set in what he wants with no other qualms in the world. I don't know if this will hold my attention. Take Naruto, for example, he has the internal conflict with the demon and society shunning him and it makes for great character development and story telling. I ramble some, so in essence i'm asking if the show eventually takes routes that have darker stories and actual character development and and realism and such.
Thanks,
RuranOf course it becomes better. Just sit and watch goddamnit !

@AMS:
I suppose it is not 100 percent true, but compared to any of the other animes I have seen it is fairly accurate. You may have little stuff like the criminal episode having extra stuff (which was funny) but they do not drag out a single fight to 7 episodes while adding extra stuff to it, like say DBZ.
You're compairing Aids to Ebola, filler wise.

There are actually a lot of small things the anime adaption does that's different from the manga. Doing things such as changing one of Luffy's lines may not seem like a lot but it happens so often that it still annoys the heaven out of me.
-
^ Words to live by.
-
He's saying it was drawn out a lot. (Which it was) If you read the manga side-by-side or just know it at all it's VERY obvious at times. At other times it flows a bit better but it's still pretty dragged out.
I watched the anime adaption before reading its manga counterpart and could already tell that the episodes were dragged out up until the crew finally landed the Puffing Tom and started fighting.
If it takes Franky 24 minutes to burn a blueprint, then you know that they're stretching it.
-
I apologise for my reasoning not being concise. Basically, I'm to lazy and to indulged in the Enis Lobby arc to care.
The Enies Lobby arc is inferior to most of the East Blue stuff you stupidly skipped.
-
@AMS:
One Piece is one of the only anime I know that adapts the manga almost precisely. No filler crap is put into episodes and that makes the episodes a lot more enjoyable.
Are you fucking kidding me.

You haven't read the manga and think you know the difference from reading wiki articles. That's cute.
-
If your only worry is that the fillers will get as annoying or never-ending as Naruto, then watch all of them. This is coming from someone who's seen every single episode of the great "Naruto Filler Saga" arc and forgotten 90% of them in the process.
You had the endurance to sit through that?
-
Not as bad as Dragonball, but still horrible enough to avoid watching.
-

Not to mention changing up the order of appearances for no real reason… Like having Gaimon after Usopp's island, or making Nami the first Straw Hat to be shown instead of Luffy.
And to the guy that started at Enie's Lobby. Terrible idea. Didn't you watch the episode with Mihawk and wonder how the hell he even knew the Strawhats? Didn't you see in Logue Town when Buggy and Alvida came back and think, who are these guys? And when Hachi comes back you won't know what the fuck is going on. I mean, seriously.
-
^ This. There are so many things in the series that isn't gonna make any fucking sense to you if you don't watch it from the start. It's part of the reason why the series is as better as ever now. Oda never forgets the stuff he did before and expands on it.
-

You say this but I know the character back stories from the flashbacks, i watched the episode where ussop joined the crew and the series makes perefect sense to me. There are just a few general things that i don't understand: usually ones that don't effect the series greatly.
I presume then, if luffy's dad is Shanks then his Grandfather is Gold.D.Roger?
-
I presume then, if luffy's dad is Shanks then his Grandfather is Gold.D.Roger?
Sigh :getlost:…yes. That's...exactly what happens.
And you wonder why you should read the beginning?

Give it up. You should really start from the beginning.

What am I really missing out on?
You're missing out on the chance not to make retarded assumptions like the ones you've already made.
-
@Badass:
You're missing out on the chance not to make retarded assumptions like the ones you've already made.
Pfft. Anime is all about making retarded assumptions only to discover you're wrong. The suprise is the key element of any show.
-
Don't act like I'm the first person ever to make that assumption. I only thought this because in the episode where luffy meets Aokiji he says that his granfather caused the marines a great deal of trouble in the past. and in the episode on drum island dr.kureha looks at the poster and say something about it. cant remember what but it was something about that.
-
Later on, you will also think that Hancock is Luffys mother.
-
When I began to watch One Piece, it was light hearted feel that made me like it. Maybe because I was only a kid back then, but as I continued to follow the story and simultaneously grewn up, I knewn it was no mere anime, but one of the best things ever made by mankind.
Atleast you want to give a chance to One Piece, one of my friends stopped at the first episode. Obviously he's now in the dark side. -
O_O you've skipped episodes 1 - 59 … facepalms
seriously ... with everything oda has done up to now and is going to do in the future ... i'd suggest watching the first episodes.
watching the flashbacks only is like watching the trailer of a movie .. gosh you're missing the whole feeling. the arlong arc was great ... not to mention all those characters who have good chances of returning some day. oh and how i loved them ... baratie, i still wanna see those guys again. __ ... missing what impact the alabasta arc and crocodile as a villain had on the fans ... haaa~ luffy nearly killed 3 times ... THAT was awesome. and why was it awesome? well ... you probably wouldn't understand coz you missed the east blue saga.
-
and in the episode on drum island dr.kureha looks at the poster and say something about it. cant remember what but it was something about that.
I think I can help you with that: Kureha looks at Luffy's poster and says "My grandson… You truly are the son of Gol D. Roger."
And Kureha is BTW Roger's wife and therefore Luffy's grandma.
I hope you fully understand this show now and can continue watching it, understanding every little detail.
(But seriously, start at Chapter 1. Now.)
-
There are actually a lot of small things the anime adaption does that's different from the manga. Doing things such as changing one of Luffy's lines may not seem like a lot but it happens so often that it still annoys the heaven out of me.
I honestly do not even notice.
-
Later on, you will also think that Hancock is Luffys mother.
I will more likely think hancock is a tramp superhero. Not a female: odd choice of naming there?
Pluss isn't she one of the seven warlords of the sea?
Just because i jumped to a conclusion that im sure a lot of people do doesn't make me stupid.
-
-
If you mean that shanks is Luffys dad then that was subject of my gulableness. someone told me he at the beginning of this thread. must have been a joke that i took for serious.
-
@JERK:
Are you fucking kidding me.
You haven't read the manga and think you know the difference from reading wiki articles. That's cute.
You are a rude ignorant person and I honestly have no idea why anyone tolertes your continued presence on this board.
If you must know I have read the manga from chapter 1 to chapter 591. Sure there are little bits of filler moments, but nothing compared to the other anime I have seen. I feel this anime is fairly crisp, mostly well animated, and very enjoyable. It is the only anime adaptation I care to watch (aside from FMA) and I find it greatly enjoyable.
The thing I like about this anime is that they do not pad the fight scenes, what Oda put into the crocodile and Luffy fight is what was animated, and I thought it really worked much better than when they padded fights in other anime.
-
@robbybedfart:
Shanks is Luffy and Ace's father, that's their connection.
Can't believe no one mentioned that yet.
I mean, its a bit of a spoiler, but its established so early on, and you're already past that point…

Sorry, but that's what you get for skipping East Blue.

-

This is true, but it does not change the content of the manga just the order of the content. Also in a manner that does not change or harm anything.

i am contemplating it ;]
But yes, im contemplating it. And i it wasnt for sure episode 60, that was just a rough guess. it might have been 50 if that makes it any better!

no .. that doesn't make anything better. do yourself a favour and just watch those 50+ episodes.
-
Honestly dude the east blue arc has two really great arcs, the Baratie and Arlong Park arcs. They are fun and show a lot of the crews early personality traits.
The Buggy arc and captain Kuro arc are also good, but can drag a bit imo, BUT they do explain Luffy's connection to Shanks (he is just a pirate that hung out in his town) they also explain that Ussopp has a connection to the red hair pirates as well, it explains why Nami hates fish people (which is important later on) etc.. Really they are kind of important for when you get past ennies lobby.
Also FYI Luffy's family tree is kind of like this
grandfather-Monkey D. Garp
father- you'll find out in the end of this arc.
brother- Acewe do not know who his mother is, and there is a lot of story about all of the characters listed above that I will not spoil but do not let these guys trick you into thinking that Luffy is blood relations with Shanks.
-

That was a joke. Kureha, Luffy and Roger are not related.sigh
Just start at chapter 1. Now.
And i it wasnt for sure episode 60, that was just a rough guess. it might have been 50 if that makes it any better!
Congratulations, that means you've started with the worst filler in One Piece.
Yeeeeah, that doesn't make it any better.(Read chapter 1 NOW)

I mean i was contemplating going back to episode 1. but luffy has cool rings in his legs so maybe later :L

ahahaha to funny..
-
well at least you got to miss apis =/
-
I think I love you.
Don't listen to AMS; she/he lies.
I think the problem here is that most people feel insulted that someone finds watching a saga of One Piece troublesome to the point that they'd try to milk everyone else for it. A bit of disrespect to Oda and the OP fandom, isn't it?
-
I should put it in my resume.
My favourite episodes include Hinata's naked dance, and those n00bish snott-nosed rich kid bodyguards.
-
well at least you got to miss apis =/
So the Apis arc is generally considered the worst?
That is good to know at least when I watch the filler I skipped the first time I can't expect it to be too terrible.
-
Pfft. Anime is all about making retarded assumptions only to discover you're wrong. The suprise is the key element of any show.
Yeah, that's called following the narrative. What you're doing is completely bogus bullshit, and your surprises aren't plot twists, just complete accidental lazy ignorance.
@AMS:
You are a rude ignorant person and I honestly have no idea why anyone tolertes your continued presence on this board.
I've had a continued presence on this board since 04', so maybe when you actually stay around long enough to even know what this board is like you can make these judgement calls.
If you must know I have read the manga from chapter 1 to chapter 591. Sure there are little bits of filler moments, but nothing compared to the other anime I have seen.
Let me guess, Naruto.
I feel this anime is fairly crisp, mostly well animated, and very enjoyable. It is the only anime adaptation I care to watch (aside from FMA) and I find it greatly enjoyable.
I don't really give a damn what you're tolerance level is. Pretending there is a small amount of drag and filler is just factually incorrect.
If you've lived in Russia all your life this doesn't make Sudan small if you move there. The thing I like about this anime is that they do not pad the fight scenes,
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

One Piece is the BEST. I don't understand how some people say the drawing is 'ugly'. Oda can fucking draw and they look awesome. So do continue watching/reading!
Maybe a reason some people don't like Oda's drawing style is because his characters aren't filled with bishounens. He can make villains cool without making them look like models.
