Curious, and I keep it to the point because you´re all business round these parts.
While I would never equate Haki to personality traits, is not the nature of King´s Haki hinted to be slightly coercitive and overwhelming to the point that natural leadership is both hinted to be the reason for it and also enhanced by it?
It may sound like a misleading or confusing question, and it kinda is, so if it feels like I´m not making sense you are free to ask me to word it differently, but I´m kinda curious as to your dismissal that King´s Haki, as depicted thus far, while the result of extreme willpower and personality, also has some level of supernatural attraction for the lesser of mind, and sometimes the great as well.
In other words, while the source of that magnetism is not King´s Haki itself as a power but the personality of the person, it does have supernatural qualities beyond what normal natural leadership skills would endow. I mean, a 17 year old stands beside the most powerful man in the planet and all his allies, and manages to somehow make them all believe that he can turn the tide of a battle, even though he is in fact completely over his head, and even though they are experienced enough to tell that he is all talk. Even if it is fleeting, for a moment they irrationally trust it all to a young man who, even if he has potential, does not at that time deserve that trust.

Whatever the hell the Will of D and it´s legacy signifies, the fact that other people "without it" can have the same Haki or level of determination as Luffy says you´re wrong. The source of Luffy´s power is not an inherited will that he isn´t even aware of. At least that hasn´t been hinted as of yet.

Sure, the strictly physical aspect of it is undeniable.
But do you deny that even the most experienced, who don´t have any idea about his admirable qualities, and who do not know him, and see him get kicked around the battlefield enough to understand that he´s currently not that big of a deal, still act irrationally when it comes to trusting or siding with him?
I don´t see a logical reason why you put a guy who is comparatively weak at the front of your avant-garde.
I understand all the talk about wanting to preserve the evident potential that they recognize in him, but he also has the ability to influence them in his favour to the point where they succumb to the irrational belief that somehow he can do it. The funny thing is that this is the only reason he ends up managing it in the first place. At least so far.
But it´s a circular thing, in the sense that if the people that follow him or believe in him didn´t take that initial and irrational leap of faith he would never have managed it in the first place, so, was he really deserving of that trust? Isn´t it true in the end that if they placed that same amount of trust and backing on someone undeniably stronger than Luffy, and there were many, that they would have achieved the same? So why choose Luffy as a temporary general? This is what I mean. Even against the wise and strong Luffy has a charisma so strong that it makes people act irrationally and want to trust him, and while I agree as to what Haki is with you, I think that part of that magic, specifically in the type of Haki that Luffy has, is also to project some kind of influence or aura that makes people want to root for you. It may be subtler with stronger people, but it´s still there, and there are many who followed Luffy without hesitation without good reason to do so, including WB.

I´m sorry, I don´t know whether to continue or enjoy the show. I like this E guy and his new persona.
I wouldn´t really use Jimbei as an example since he has a vow to fulfill for Ace and also knows that Luffy is a good guy from Ace.
I mean that Luffy´s King´s Haki (I agree it´s a manifestation blah blah blah of Luffy´s natural leadership and all that shit you said) makes people who don´t have any priors on him take one look at him and instantly trust him or like him or admire him or respect him. Even the ones that consider him a punk and a blabbermouth like WB take to him in an extremely short time.
I think that´s something exclusive to that type of Haki, and it would seem that you disagree with this.
To clarify, my stance is that Luffy has King´s Haki due to his personality, but that in him and the rare few that possess that kind they also have an additional flare or magnetism that attracts people beyond what normal charisma or values could give you. Again, the type of Haki is due to their type of personality and qualities as a leader, but that type of Haki also enhances those qualities to supernatural levels.

Greg acutally explained all of that a while back, I have spent a few days looking through his posts to figure out which post he made it in. . .but I couldn't find it :(
