@onemoment:
The manga is decent on the shonen side, but…it started as a school club taking requests and helping people. Ever since it jumped the shark I've actually felt betrayed by this manga. Remember that whole "no one is beyond saving" trait that was essential to Medaka's character at one point? How Medaka, no matter what, wouldn't just say crush someone as opposed to making their lives better? The entire point of the first chapter? With a setting like that, making this a battle manga never made any sense. I feel like I'm watching Bakuman, and whoever this guy is decided to add battles because the current manga wasn't cutting it. I see some Muira-like editor harping behind the scenes "add more battles! everyone loves battles!" The way they got around this trait was awful too, the scene where Medaka crushes three random thugs felt like the manga was selling out it's premise.
I hate how this manga has strayed from it's setting and gone into Dragonball Z. And not good Dragonball Z, no, it's skipped to the Buu Saga and it heading into GT--just like Bleach. I mean really, how did we go from Judo matches and swimming battles to carrying an entire school wing on your shoulders? DBZ took the time and eventually developed to that point, this series is just trying to imitate what's popular. I mean, again, the shonen fights are good, but I literally got whiplash from how quickly we've gone from a funny story to a war between superhumans. How have all the kids at this school never noticed this until this point? Doesn't this take place is Japan? There's no world building so I can't tell.
Atlthough that does accurately explain just how fast this manga went from one direction to another, I'm going to have to disagree with you on how this is the same as Bleach. The fights here, like you said, are better, the characters are better in my opinion, and the manga actually progresses quite fast, as compared to Bleach, which takes things one syllable per chapter. :getlost:
Overall, I would rate this manga as a step above bleach, with a grade of an A-. This is becuase if you just enjoy the manga for what it's worth and what it is, then it's actually a very good ride.
And DON'T YOU EVEN Compare Medaka to that whiny bitch Orihime, EVER. You don't hear Medaka standing around going "Hitoyoshi-Kun, Hitoyoshi-Kun, Hitoyoshi-Kun, Hitoyoshi-Kun, Hitoyoshi-Kun", and being generally helpless, etc. No, Medaka actually does shit, she fights. When was the last time Orihime actually fought a battle and not just stood on the sidelines? Medaka has fought Unzen, Takachiho (Black Guy), and now she's about to fight against Miyakonojou. The fights she's been in have all been pretty brutal and badass to boot, so giver here her credit.
@onemoment:
Oh, and chapters 50 to 52 gave away Medaka's backstory, and it sucked. She's smart, she's sad so she wonders the purpose of life (real original btw). It's nothing we didn't know before, except the huge cliche that her friend used to go to whatever place this is. I could go on, but she's been nothing but a walking cliche , especially these last few chapters. But I could go on forever and what annoys me about Medaka. I rate her lower then Orihime now.
NO! Don't spoil anything! I've only read to Chapter 42! If you must, put it in Spoilers! OH GOD MY EYES! NOOOOOOOO!
@onemoment:
This series is also completely pointless. The plot is useless, the fighting goes nowhere. It's Bleach. The fights are better then Bleach, but then against Kubo actually had the foresight to start and develop his manga as a fighting manga so I'd rate them as about the same.
Again, I'd have to disagree with you for the reasons stated above. :ninja:
@onemoment:
Hey hey now, that scene was pretty badass. Though…his backstory is retarded. He kills people, he kills people, he obsesses with killing people, then twist--he doesn't kill anyone! Bah.
For me, My FAVORITE Badass scene so far would be this:
