Pokemon's Fifth Generation
-
-
I'm thinking something like ''Keroswine'' for it's final evolution.
-
Charing, Explosion, Combustion and Inferno are out (most likely)
-
I dunno. Emboar sounds a little too ferocious for the little guy. And isn't "Bu" the japanese equivalent of "Oink"? (Well, part of it, anyway)
So how about "Emboink"?
-
Wasn't "bu" a syllable for the japanese word for pig?
Iam too lazy to check out in my Dictionary lol -
He looks like P-Chan.
He's a fire type…
And the motherfucker's name is Emboar?
Please tell me your kiddin'...
The official Japanese name is Pokabu.
Emboar is a temp fan dubbing name, along with Smugleaf and Wotter.
I rather Like Wotter for the water star's joke name. It amuses me. If I use it in 9 months, and remember, that's totally what I'm calling it.
-
Wotter > Fire Pig > Smugleaf
That is all.
-
Wotter will grow mutton chops in its final evolution. Calling it now.

Pyroink should be the second stage.
Lavork should be the final.
-
Amazing how fast Wotter's popularity has risen from the ashes since its reveal.
-
Respect the Water-types.
RESPECT THEM.

After all of the preview screens for Black and White coming out, I've only been disappointed at the low amount of detail on the pokemon sprites. You can see on the battle screens on this page what I mean: http://www.serebii.net/blackwhite/pics.shtml
I've always been an advocate of a fully animated Pokemon game a la the intro to Pokemon FireRed/Leaf Green (Example:
) but was always told that the sheer amount of sprites would be astronomical, to which I can agree.BUT MAYBE now they have decided to do some level of animation at the cost of detailed sprites! What do you guys think? DO you think this is possible?
-
They'll probably do it whenever Pokemon Grey comes out.
-
they need to start naming household items in their games. EX: pokemon toaster and pokemon oven.

oh damn ive been schooled.

Yeah, thats already been confirmed. The video of Entei has it doing some primitive animations.
Kinda crazy considering they're doing ~600 critters from scratch to accomodate the new battle screen, but its a step up.
-
Estimating it:
Let's just assume they'll have 650 Pokemon after this generation (much higher than there will probably be, but accounting for different forms). The idle animation looks like a simple two frame up and down sort of thing, I'll say three, just in case. Then there's attack animation, which appears to be three or four, I'll stick with the higher number again. Finally, we have to double the number we get to account for front and back. So that gives us 14 battle sprites per pokemon, meaning 9100 total pokemon battle sprites. Take that estimate as you will.
-
They already had a wide variety of "enter battle" animations, as well as simple "shouts of joy" animations when scrolling through your box. So, theres an even higher count than that.
Scary.
-
one thing really dissapointed in is, we just got soul/silver, heart/gold right? and coming E3 we have the 3DS being announced and supposedly coming out this year right
So why not have black and white be launch games for the black and white. I hope they at least do like a Twilight Princess thing and have a black and white be for both consoles, or else when 3DS comes out for launch have the you know combo one come out for it. You know like the yellow is to red/blue and so on. Have the black/white ultimate edition one be a launch game for 3DS.
or is this 3DS and i just haven't heard that?
-
Because a bajillion people already own DSes so they'll sell a bajillion copies of this game.
Also, despite being considered a system seller, Pokemon games are never launch titles, and don't usually hit until after a system has been out for a while. Diamond/Pearl didn't hit till after the DS was already 3 years old.
-
I believe that it has something to do with Nintendo's irrational fear of 3D adventures.

what better way to get millions to buy a 3DS than having pokemon be a launch title
-
Given that the 3DS will probably cost more than the DSi & XL along with the fact I already own a DS I for one wouldn't waste the money.
-
we have like no idea on 3DS. I would wait for E3 when they announce it. First of all, Nintendo is always been good about price, so don't expect some bullshit PSP pricing. It will be reasonable so that it can reach mass market appeal from day one.
2. Isn't it supposed to be gamecube quality graphics, its in 3D obviously and well who knows that else. Bigger screens? 2 touch screens? buttons/controls, camera, speaker, ect. Kind of hard to say you won't buy one because you have a last generation counsel.
i'm sure i'll buy it 100%, cause it will no doubt play ds games on it, nintendo is AMAZING for BC so i don't loose all my games. just have a new DS that can play the newest games that my old ds can't
-

What better way to have millions not buy the new Pokemon game than putting it on a system that nobody wants/will be able to afford.
-
@Badass:

your basing this on what?
please tell me a nintendo system that has been too expensive to afford when released? Tell me why you don't want this new system, what is it that is turning you off. Cuase all i know of this system is it will be in 3D for sure. The rest is rumors.
-
If I have a DS and the new Pokemon Game comes out, I would buy it, but if they put it on the 3DS something I don't have, then I won't because instead of buying just the Pokemon Game, I would have to buy the game and the new system. It's not like those two together are gonna be cheap/easily affordable.

what you just typed makes is the attitude that there should be no new consoles ever.
whether this pokemon black and white was a 3DS game or not, the pokemon after this one will be a 3DS game and if you want that you will need a 3DS sooner or later.
That's what companies do, they have big games that they know people want and make them on the new system. Such as Mario Galaxy. You don't think the millions that have a gamecube wanted to play that game. Well they needed a Wii. Or how about God of War 3. Don't you think the millions of PS2 users would have liked it on PS2 so tehy don't have to go out and buy and expensive PS3 + God of War 3. That isn't cheap.
so no shit your going to have to buy a 3ds to play pokemon, and no shit some will not buy it due to this. But sooner or later if you really like pokemon you will buy it. And considering nintendo tends to sell hardware at profit or at least even, i guarantee they would accept selling a couple million less pokemon if having it a launch 3DS game means it helps sell a couple million 3DS. 1 Hardware sale is worth way more than 1 software sale.

Who's to really say all PKMN games after Black & White will be 3DS exclusive?
Though most of nintendo's handhelds have historically only had two generations worth of PKMN games on them each, the only exception being the GBA. They could easily continue to keep making PKMN games on both the DS & 3DS.

i have had nintendo consoles since 64 and handhelds since gba color. and well i really don't see them as supporting and old system at all. As soon as the new system comes out it seems all their new games EVERY single one is for that system.
The new system yes is perfectly backwards compatable so that any new DS games made by other companies and all DS games released plus typically all gba/gb and so on games are still playable on the 3DS.
but looking at past history, there is no reason to believe that the game after black and white or really any games not already in development for the DSi/lite and so on will be 3DS in future.
none of the pokemon games are made for more than one system, and as soon as new system has been out they made a pokemon for it. there isn't any diamond for DS and gameboy advance. Its only DS. So don't get your hopes up thinking that the Pokemon after black and white lets say Dark and Light will be on the 3DS. and they won't make it for DS as well.
The 3DS isn't a modification or remodel of DS, like the lite or dsi. It is the NEXT GENERATION. Its like the gameboy color going to gameboy advance. Its in the DS line, but its the next generation, not a new iteration of the DS. Its the next thing. Its the PS4, not the PS3 Slim.

They have done that with the NES but yeah Nintendo historically have kind of not really been known to strongly support their older systems once newer ones come out.

I thought I said the next games could be on both the DS & 3DS.
yea and i said that never happens.
the 3DS is next generation. Nintendo never makes a game for the current generation and the previous gen. Their systems are BC, but they never make games for past generations. They always head forward. Tell me last time Nintendo released a Gameboy advance game, or a gamecube game, or in those generations when they made gameboy color games or 64 games.
they dont. they make current generation games. they don't make a game for older generations. The next pokemon game after black and white, the next zelda game, the next mario game and so on will all be purely 3DS games. They won't make any more DS games that aren't already in devolopment.
they may port DS games to be 3DS games, but they never port games back
-
They might not but habits change, Microsoft mostly abandoned the first Xbox when they came out with the 360. But it's been said that they won't be as quick to drop support for the 360 once the next Xbox comes out so if Microsoft can do something like that so can Nintendo.
-

Actually, you're wrong. Nintendo was still releasing GameCube games even after the Wii came out, as I'm sure they were for the N64 when the GC came out. It's not like they just up and abandon the previous gen systems when the next one comes out.
-
Not everybody buys a new system the week it comes out. That's going to be a 200 dollar investment, at least, plus the cost of a game. And a lot of people aren't inclined to spend that kind of cash for a single game.
Once a system has been out a few years, the price had dropped, and its developed a library, is when most people get a system. But a single great launch title doesn't guarantee sales of an entire system.
Huge difference between 30$ and 230$ buck.
Plus, ALL system developers KEEP making games for their previous gen system for a couple years after the new systems launch, until there's time for the user base to switch over. Its how it works. They don't jus tstp the day a new system comes out.

More info on the Battle System
@Serebii:
In The Games Department Pokémon Black & White - Battle System Clarification Pokémon Sunday has just aired and has shown that the battle system is as adaptive as we predicted. In battle, in a variety of instances, the camera will move around and zoom in/out as the situation dictates. In addition to that, as seen in screenshots, the sprites are animated so the battles are not going to be as static as they have been the last fourteen years. These animations take place when attacking and while waiting for the moves to be selected and not just when the Pokémon is put into battle. Click the picture to go to our Black & White section which contains all the information we know.
Pokémon Sunday also showed footage of the market of Hiun City. In this area, lots of people are walking and moving around, some of them running. Several of them will speak while you walk through and others will walk around you as you're walking through the city. This shows further interactivity than before and shows the true scale of the Isshu region and Hiun CityFilb.de probably will have the video up soon.

Here's the LQ footage. Battle animations look neat.

What's with the funky looking versions of Raikou, Entei, and Suicune?

They're the Shiny versions of each, which will be given away during the next movie and are used to activate the event battle with Zoroark as seen in the footage.
-
They are shinny promotional from movie 5thousand
Didn't we had this exact same discussion about why it should/shouldn't be on the 3ds? And it's completely moot because it is on the DS?
-
:O…
Incoming DS in...

Here's the LQ footage. Battle animations look neat.
o2QG0Ibob44It looks like there are more battle sprites than I thought. That is a lot of effort.
-
Here's more, showing the starters battling, and one of the trainers walking around the city.
ailMef5RiM4So apparently people will talk without button prompts. Judging from what's shown, I can only imagine they're saying stuff like ''Hey, don't stand in the middle of the road!'' ''Get outta the way!'' etc.
-
That looks pretty fucking cool
I like :) -
About time Nintendo added battle animations..we should've had them in this gen..but then Nintendo would have to think of a different selling point to make the same old game seem new again.
-
YES GLORIOUS.
I'm gonna buy this so fast.
Ampharos and Altaria in ACTION!
YES YES YES!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
T_T I'm so happy.

New battle animations look pretty sweet. Honestly, Game Freak must love us so much for methodically animating all 600+ of those little guys.

They're all probably going to commit suicide when they've finished, but still.
