I think the "One Piece" would go along well with his name, so I'm sure it won't be a huge treasure, just one thing, something…<_<

Thanks, now I´m having this ugly mental image that One Piece will be a gigantic transformer robot, who´s body consists of all the Ancient Weapons combined in one piece. Yuck, can´t erase that image now!
But that would be friggin' awesome battle, we all know it. Perhaps all the Strawhats will combine into onew as well! XD
one piece isn't power rangers, you know that, do you?
Who are you referring to, Rakuen? O.o
Do you think they're talking seriously, Rakuen? XD

Remember when Sanji made a comment on how Luffy's drawing looked like an Octopus-Man?
We already had the discussion once that it was only Null that translated it as Octopus. So the question remains was it just a mistake by them or does it really say "tako" in japanese. So far nobody confirmed what the original says. =(
I think the One Piece will have a very sentimental meaning…..but then again, ancient weapons would be cool.

In chapter 323, when Luffy shows Usopp and Sanji the picture, Sanji does, in fact, use the word 'tako' describing it. Something about looking like it has octopus blood… Then, in chapter 365, Sanji is, in fact, calling Franky an octopus. XD So... there's confirmation for you. ^_^
I just re read the first volume. and at the part when luffy was about to leave his hometown I found that luffy said that he is going to get 10 shipmate.
I wonder if the strawhats will be just 11 people including the captain
I think it is. Remember, Luffy is trying to emulate Shanks and in the first chapter (if you count them while the're line dancing in Makino's bar) Shanks has eleven companions. So I think yeah.
This means that, assuming Franky joins the crew, there's three more positions to fill. My gueses:
1: Musician
2: Journalist (to record their adventures)
3: Fisherman (possible fish-man fisherman ^_^)

Ahem, the question was if Sanji says "tako" in chapter 365. Chapter 323 is out of question because it is out of question that "tako" is used there since octopus is used in every translation.
It´s just chapter 365 where I would like the have the confirmation whether it is tako in original or not. So…I´m not wiser then before I made my previous post. =(
Can't "tako" mean somethign besdies Octopus? I remember a note in Stephen's scripts from the arlong arc stating that Usopp & Zoro always emphasized the word "tako" when referring to Hachi because there was some extra meaning to it that was an insult to Hachi

Sorry if I wasn't too clear… Yes, he does use the word 'tako' in chapter 365. ^_^

He does? Cool thanks for clearing that up. Finally this little mystery is solved too.

I love these kind of threads. =) New member so bear with me if any of this sounds familiar.
In reference to the 'will of D.' I recall 'God' noted the similarity between Luffy and Roger to Nami, I believe. When she told him the name 'Monky D. Luffy' He seemed shocked and wondered if the two were related because they had the same middle initial. I'll have to check back at that chapter to find out exactly what he said. It was during the celebration of Eneru's defeat or shortly after. There's definitely a relation between the two. With the mention of Luffy's troublesome Grandpa. It seems to me like Oda's forshadowing a blood relation between the two pirates.
VOL 32: Chapter 301 (I was Here)
Robin: "Keep thy motives in heart with closed mouth."
Robin: "We are those who control history"
"with the tolling of the belfry."
"I was here, and will follow these words to their end."
"Gol D. Roger, Pirate"
The Pirate King…?!!
He was here, in Sky Island?!
How can he write in that language...?!!
Gan Forr: Girl... you know, that Straw Hat boy.
He reminds me of the way Roger once was.
Is that... just my imagination?
Robin: His name is Monkey D. Luffy.
I've also got quite a bit of interest in him.
Gan Forr: "D"...
I see, that initial.
No wonder he seems so similar...!! Hahaha...
Robin: Yes...
I'm sure it will end up having... a great effect on history.
XD
Don't Know if it is a foreshadowing but I thought I'd post it anyway.
I was re-reading the Davy Back Fight arc the other day and something caught my attention. Aokiji says that he once arrested Robin but she managed to escape. This got me thinking, when Robin was arrested was she sent to Impel Down but somehow managed to escape? It could explain why she decided to give herself up so easily. She knows she could escape from Impel Down and meet up again with the Straw Hats, who she asked to be allowed to sail free from W7.
I posted earlier about how I found Kalifa hot in one pic (as part of a longer argument) but I posted the wrong pic
here's the right one

Something else I noticed. Smoker talked about the power of the seastone, back in Loguetown. He says something like "if a DF user comes in contact with it they won't be able to move, just like if it were the sea".
We get two clear examples of this, when Smoker pins down Luffy with his staff thingy and when Crocdile catches the straw hats and smoker in that cell made from seastone, Luffy touches it and just goes weak and stops moving. But currently Robin is supposably wearing seastone handcuffs. Now wouldn't that mean she wouldn't be able to move? what I'm trying to get at is that is there someone within CP9 who is secretly helping out the straw hats by giving Robin non-seastone cuffs?
Also two more things.
1. They say your pretty much a dead man if your a DF user that falls into water but we are yet to see anyone die from this.
2. Ace replies to a question whitebeard by saying "I want to make sure he's pirate king and not you Luffy"

1. They say that because ou end up drowning. Just sinking in water isn't going to kill anyone. Each DF user we've seen go under has been saved by someone who can swim.
2. Wasn't it more like "I want that man becomes pirate king" or "I hope that man becomes pirate king"?
One thing I thought about; Robin told Chopper about Davy Jones and his locker, right? (We've all heard the expression before.) What if this Davy Jones character becomes more important? Not necessarily a character himself, but a plot point besides the DBF?

You do realize that Davy Jones is a real-life person, right? He's a singer from the 60's rock group "the Monkees", which I believe was created as a parody of the Beatles. The group was popularized by their own television sitcom for a while.
That's where the expression came from, seems to me like it's just Oda having a little fun. Anybody know if Oda's a fan of sixties rock(-ish) as well?
I do hope you were joking. It is hard for me to pick up on sarcasm in type. You probably are joking, but just in case. Davy Jone's Locker is a common pirate term in reality, and has nothing to do with the singer Davy Jones.

Didn't it mention that Davy Jones was a pirate said to have power over the sea or something like that?
Somewhere I saw someone suggesting that Davy Jones hade eaten the DF of the ocean, which would have pretty much made him the most powerful pirate in existence. Of course, it's not but speculation…

Everything my mom ever told me has turned out to be a lie!
Nah, I wasn't joking; I was just misinformed. I guess that explains the use of the term by the Flying Dutchman in Spongebob as well=(
Anyway, thanks for the info, I know when I'm wrong, and I guess it does make far more sense to include a real pirate term in it.
Wow, maybe seeing some form of the character (perhaps the inventor of the Davy Back Games) is possible for a future point?
It would be so like Oda for the final opponent to be Davey Jones. Although I bet I'm not the only one who thinks the water DF is gonna be the final opponent.
Davey Jones = Gold Roger :p

It is still possible to see a water DF user in the series, but we already saw a water DF user in one of the movies. I beleive it was the second movie, and the water df person was a female. She was defeated relatively easily in the end if I recall.
Davy.. could this be the infamous middle name to Ace, Luffy, and Roger?
A real Davy jones would be awesome. I don't recall the DF fruit thing about the ocean, but that's a cool idea.
I like that idea for the middle name. It would make sense, and then it would tie in a huge history of pirates dating back to Davy Jones. (Point of fact: according to the wiki link I posted above, there is not known to have been an actual pirate with the name of Davy Jones. There are numerous people from which the name may have come from, but there are also speculations that the name is symbolic and does not come from the name of a person at all.) Even though there may not have been a real Davy Jones (I'm not counting the singer) in the real world that the phrase "Davy Jones' Locker" was based on, in Oda's little pirate world, there may have been a Davy Jones who was one of the first pirates or something like that.

The movies aren't canon :P neither are filler arcs. Screw the movies and the filler arcs. I'm soooo sick of people going "Hey! Maybe Apis will join the crew!" Or "That already happened" NO. IT DIDN'T. The stuff that happened is the stuff in the manga. End of story. The rest isn't Oda
Just a side note. It wasnt a water but a liquid fruit Honey Queen ate. There´s actually no visible difference but since it was mentioned that Oda has the right to veto on usage of movie DF´s if they plan to bring one power he actually had planned for the real story in the manga.
In that case this could really be an example of vetoing the movies. Oda maybe plans to bring a Mizu Mizu no Mi at some point in the manga and so Toei changes the name to Toro Toro no Mi. At least that´s how I see it.
Besides, the movie was crap. I don´t think that Oda would ever come up with such a retard explanation to overcome an logia user. It´s as if you say that Crocodile would have been defeated if he would have been trapped in glas. No chance that this would work with Oda´s storytelling style.
Yeah pretty lame :P Seriously thought, I think a fish man with the water water fruit woudl be almost invisible, if he could swim ^_^
Or even just a regular person with it.
L:"Gum Gum-"
MMFU:"I capsize your ship."
L: "SHIIIIIIII_"
PS: Gum Gum Shit would be an interesting technique
It would be so like Oda for the final opponent to be Davey Jones. Although I bet I'm not the only one who thinks the water DF is gonna be the final opponent.
Eh, I still stand by my "Shanks is the final opponent" theory.
Davy.. could this be the infamous middle name to Ace, Luffy, and Roger?
Oh. Perhaps (now I'll have to figure it out between that and "Dragon").
PS: Gum Gum Sh*t would be an interesting technique
Eww… hey, if every part of him is rubber, does that count? XD
Ooooh…Davy would work really well.
I still think Davy Jones is real
[qoute=myoti]Eww… hey, if every part of him is rubber, does that count?
Weellll, It counted for Mr. 5's boogers right?
Woah I just thought of that…MR 5's POOP CAN EXPLODE. All he's gotta do to escape from prison is ask to use the bathroom! ^__^
Monkey Davy Luffy
Not bad. A friend and I suggested "Delila"
Monkey… DELILA... Luffy... Portugas... DELILA... Ace
I still think Davy Jones will be more important later on. GO ODA!
Hmm, that thing about D being Davy sounds very cool, to me it sounds more likely than Dragon actually. Like Strange_One said:
GO ODA!
Monkey Dragon Luffy, Monkey Davy Luffy, or really just anything.
If the Dragon is true, it gives a strong inclanation that Dragon is related to them (father, maybe?), which would explan alot.
Woah I just thought of that…MR 5's POOP CAN EXPLODE. All he's gotta do to escape from prison is ask to use the bathroom! ^__^
They would probably have his toilet made of seastone. ;D
I got some foreshadowing for you…on Rocketman , Luffy was stuffing meat into his pants (and nami yelled at him for it) and just now he regained his strength by eating that same meat!
Ok, so it wasn't particularly DRAMTIC foreshadowing, but I bet everyon forgot about the meat until he pulled it out
how do they spell davy?
da-wi?
de-wi?
isn't that kind of close to devil?
0.0 you know, that could just possible be it…over the generations, "davey" becoming "devil.."
It also helps to remember that as Oda pointed out once, "Jolly Roger" comes from the name "Old Roger" which was a name for? The devil. So it's got possible piratey conotations all over.
how do they spell davy?
da-wi?
de-wi?
isn't that kind of close to devil?
Actually it would be day-wee. Not that close to devil.
What's the deal with the Enel scene in the manga shown after his defeat? It's also after some celebration has already happened I didn't get that at all. Maybe I went too fast. From where is he talking? His ship is still intact? What?
I always thought the Crocus guy or whatever saying "Isn't that right, Gold Roger?" was like a major fact that Roger is still alive and everyone should never think otherwise, but that's just me.
that's just you, yes xD
@MrWonx:
I was reading through the entire arc again, and I stumbled upon chapter 323 again, in which the crew starts sailing towered Water 7. Their discussing who will find the Mechanic, and Luffy says he wants a 5 meter tall mechanic. They argue about it and Luffy draws one of his sketches:
I know you can argue shotty drawing ability on this one, but a few thingys point out Franky in this image:
Large Forearms
Possible Sunglasses
Streaked Up Hair
Possibly Shorts - could argue Speedo
Block NoseMaybe I'm just looking for these things now, but I thought it was worth bringing up.
(off-topic)
haha, i love Zoro "You better not be talking about me!"
sorry, i thought that was hilarious…
but man, all this foreshadowing in the series... so crazy... oh, also, didn't someone mention that there were like 50 islands on the Grand Line? Would the straw hats have to go through most or all of those? i mean, depending on where the log pose points them to....
but also, they've gone through what, 4 islands? that would mean they've bearly scratched the surface, and that makes me wonder how long One Piece will run?
sorry if I'm wrong or don't make any sense ^^
Actually it would be day-wee. Not that close to devil.
no I mean how the write that in japanese
Oops, sorry. I thought you were asking for a pronounciation thing. My bad. XD
