That's precisely it - the cola limitation. You wanna install more crap to take care of more weaknesses? That takes more energy. And there is a limit to energy. He could just go boom if overloaded.

I think you´re definetely biased here. You completely forget that the other character´s also grow and develop new attacks with passing time. Luffy developes more Gomu Gomu attacks since this is his primary fighting style, Zore does it with his swords since that is his primary fighting style etc. And since Franky´s fighting style is a cyborg body I don´t see why he shouldn´t surpass his own limits as everybody else has done it here.
Just like Buc said, if Paulie would be the one to join he would do the same stuff so don´t make it look like it is just something that Franky would pull.

Erm wolfwood, it's the same as saying "wow, Usopp here! I just installed this super impact dial here, and I'm going to fight and ownnnn!" Sure, Franky gets his upgrades, but he works for them. Plus, a shield isn't invincible, and there is always something faster than a slower being. Thus he'll have to push himself to his limits with his human will. The machines CAN go past 100%; that is known as overworking them. They usually spoil afterwards, but, same as human muscles, isn't it? Takes some time to heal/repair.
Sooo I don't really see Franky as any different from the rest of the crew in that category of hard work.

You seem to forget wolfwood, that he is a cyborg not a robot. So he is partly human which means that it isn´t all just about his upgrades but also about fighting spirit which a heart- and soulless robot would be missing.
I don´t know if you watch Teen Titans but there was one episode where that cyborg dude reached his limits and couldn´t give more then 100%. But that was all because of his cybernetic half and in the end he was able to win because his fighting spirit made him surpass what he though was his max until then.
And I to be honest this is as if you are looking for an anti-argument by force. At least the comment you make about comparing it to Luffy´s weakness for sharp objects gives me this impression. He has that one weakness and there´s no evidence that he will ever surpass it. Or otherwise I could say that Choppers medic skills will some day make him able to create a ball that´ll make him able to keep his strenght in water.
It's a bit futile imo to discuss what Franky can or can't do.. since he couldn't realistically exist anyway, this all simply up to Oda's imagination. However insanely strong and upgradeable Franky might be, he'll still find plenty of opponent who are up to his level, even regular humans who haven't even eaten a DF. That's just kinda how One Piece works.. =)

And it would be hard work putting them in. Who, in the crew, story, or real life, has the knowledge to install those things, or the ability to operate on themself without horribly screwing up? Some may say being a war machine makes Franky's fights easy, but his enhancements show incredible intelligence, and the fact that he can pull so many attacks shows that he has a great battle sense.

You think he's doing it easily and he is, but in actual fact, he had trained what, 10 years to achieve such standard? I really don´t see the difference between Franky and Usopp´s gadgets here. Usopp is by far not the same boy he was at the begining of One Piece both characterwise and gadget wise. I don´t see why an updrade in Franky´s body would be a bad but an upgrade in Usopps and consicuently Nami´s weapons would be a good thing.

I think you´re making it very easy here. It if would be like that, then all Usopp would need is some iron armor and thats it. So far Usopp didn´t go that way to surpass his weaknesses and why would Franky do it now if he didn´t do it from the begining?
That´s what I meant. We´re making it easy to find a reason why Franky could become superior but if the Strawhat characters would be like that then Usopp (be it with indestructable iron armor) or Chopper (be it with a super rumble ball) could have also become undefeatable. It didn´t happen with these characters so far and I don´t think that if Franky joins it´ll happen with him either. Just because he has a cyborg body doesn´t mean that he will become a godlike character.
And Buc made an excellent point. It is not as if Franky can pull his weapons out of his ass without any effort. If it would be so easy to create and upgrade them, then I think we would have seen a lot more cyborgs in the story. But so far he is the only one, which is indicator for skill and also for hard work. Those components didn´t came there from nowhere which means that they are result of hard work so upgrades wouldn´t probably come to often.

For all what we know, his very first operation didn´t cost him one single Beli. And since he is able to build a canon out of scrap metal I don´t know whether what is built in him yet has been purchased or just has been found at a junk yard.

And that´s the point I´m having a problem with. None of the other Strawhats could surpass his weaknesses with money. I just think it is biased to say that just Franky could do that. Your argument isn´t different as if I would say that if money is the only problem then Usopp could build himself a Iron Man-like armor with dial weapons it it and he would have surpassed his weaknesses.
Franky´s weaknesses aren´t easier to surpass then the ones of the other Strawhat´s. But you make it appear that it is far easier for him to get rid of his weaknesses then the other 7. That´s the point I´m trying to make. 
Exactly… you can't just pass off Franky's ability to improve himself by saying "oh well money can make him nearly invincible". I'm sure that Franky himself is one of the only people in the story that would be able to work and enhance his body as he has, so how can we just assume that he hasn't already done everything in his power to make improvements? And who is to say that there is any way (with the technology and knowledge available in the One Piece world) to makes these before said enhancements? Thats just it... we don't know~!
It just seems kind of silly and one-sided to make assumptions like that without any evidence backing it up. =)

Wherever did you see propellers on Franky? He can swim perfectly fine (and he should, considering he's always wearing swimwear he must be swimming quite a bit)

well the arguments gotten to be a bit different now…it seems most people believe (and with good reason) that franky is going to join...so rather than discussing the possibilities its more of y franky should not HAVE joined rather than y he shouldnt join...theres honestly no doubt that frankys joining anymore

Taken on it's face, then, Paulie fullfils all the critereon while Franky only fullfils half of them, inlcuding the two least important factors 1 and 2 (which are less important because not all members have to conform to them). This is not to say that Franky CAN'T be the new nakama, of course, only that based on past evidence that this is likely outcome.
Pauley does have dependants; Galley-La. And I never heard of a "size" thing.
And I have no idea what you mean about his "unrevieled" past unless you mean "unrevealed," which makes no sense because all of the other Strawhats (save Robin and maybe Luffy) have pasts that we all know and love. Unless you mean he DOESN'T have a back story at all, in which case you must've totally missed the Tom's Workers chapters.
And in regards to the age thing… who says they all have to be the same age range?
Galley-La are not dependants anymore than Nami's villiager friends and family are, or Kaya is to Ussop, and so on. By "dependants" I mean exactly that – people who are DEPENDANT on the character. In Franky's case, the 60-odd members of the Franky Family. A dependant is a human relation that is tied to you. You can't just ignore that, and you will fine NO member of the Straw Hats that has them. They have to be free of such things to become pirates.
As for story hooks and/or unrevealed back stories, they are needed because EVERY SINGLE member of the Straw Hats has one:
Luffy: Shanks
Zoro: Mihawk
Nami: Arlong
Sanji: All Blue
Chopper: The sakura pirate mark
Robin: The weapon and the Devils
Ussop: Yassop
Paulie: The debt

What kind of reason is that?! I think you're a Pauly fan who's scraping the bottom of the barrel to find ways of debunking Franky's legitimacy as a future Strawhat.
As much as it pains me to say it, I think Oda had the FF hook up with Paulie and Galley-La so it would be easier for Paulie to say at the end of this arc, "Hey. You guys are pretty talented. Why don't you guys join Galley-La?", thereby making it easier for Franky to leave with the Straw Hats. Oda kind of hinted at this in an SBS where he says most of the FF wanted to be shipwrights but failed the entrance test.
The only way Franky could join is if the Franky Family was settled first. For instance, if they all got jobs at Galley-La. But we don't know what's going to happen yet.
At this point, both characters are suitable, but to different degrees. Right now, Paulie is leading. But that could change later on depending on developments.

Franky was in the color spread, paulie was not.
And Pauley has pretty much faded into the background and has joined the ranks of secondary characters. Not that that's bad, I like the adventures of the goons, but it really reduces his chances for crewship..

I was kind of half-and-half on that subject, leaning towards "no" due to the whole being the princess of a nation that needed her thing (major dependancy factor). But then NO ONE saw Robin joining. That would kind of be like Calipha joining...hmmmmmmmm...nah, I doubt Oda would pull a Robin twice.
So anything CAN happen, and Robin is proof you don't need to be a major part of the arc (she was below secondary in the Alabasta arc). In my mind, the critereon I outlined are the main ones to determine who will join. And as long as the FF needs Franky I don't see him joining.

He went from being "The Cliffhanger" in Chapter 342 as he was about to confront two of CP9 (while they were still masked) to being hard to spot in a group shot of the Rocket Man characters. The only conclusion I can come up with is, that at that point in time, Oda still didn't know who his new shipwright would be.
I've been seeing it that way for a while now myself, really. I mean - IMO Franky just was too esoteric to qualify for the post at the beginning while everything was set up for Paulie (precisely why I laid fifty bucks on him, damn it all :laugh: ). Though as regards to which one would join it's never been that I'm so much pro-Paulie as I am anti-Franky; even now, his dynamic just is too in-your-face for me even though I still like him enough. I've been forced to warm up to the idea of him as a Straw Hat for a while now but even so, his initial brash dynamic is just clouding the way I could see him as a PART of the crew - not as the crew + Franky.

While that's possible, I really think that Oda had planned for Franky to join the crew from the start and Pauly was used more as a red herring to divert our attention from Franky until he was ready to reveal Franky's backstory. Well, I honestly felt at the time that she wasn't going to join. In addition to the "she's a princess and needs to stay behind to help rebuild her country" responsibilities, I feel Oda was giving hints all along that she wasn't really going to be a crew member. Things like her not being included on the ColorWalk 1 and One Piece RED covers. ColorWalk 1 especially. It was an illustration book that covered up to the mid point of the Arlong arc but yet Chopper was included on the cover but Vivi wasn't despite the fact that she appeared in the story first. I will say that Robin joining was not something I foresaw though. That was a total surprise.

But to finally end that argument. Even if it would be like that, that he just requires money. We´ve already seen that he actually has no money and the Strawhats are also always short on money (except for the 300 mills) so I don´t see where he should get super rich out of a sudden if he becomes a Strawhat.

I never saw Vivi joining. Not only is there nothing she could really do on the crew, but all that talk about "omg I lurv my country" should've made it obvious/
But then I BET you didn't see Robin joining. That was just bizarre. And while I doubt Oda will pull that again this arc, it does go to show we are capable of being taken by suprise on who will join.
However, there were a couple of major factors that kept Vivi out of the crew; namely, she was weaker than even Nami or Ussop, served no useful purpose whatsoever except to be in distress, and of course, had a major dependancy.
Pauley and, to a lesser extent, Franky, both fullfil all the requirements. They have the skills and the strength and the quirky wierdness for crew membership. But Franky has a major dependancy (the FF), while Paulie has none (the Galley-La doesn't need him). This situation can change as the story progresses, of course, and even if Oda isn't going to pull a Robin on us, he might be pulling a Vivi. So be on your gaurd on this subject is I'll I'm saying.

GUTB, I don't see it that way at all. I believe that Paulie is needed now more than ever by Galley-La, seeing as he is one of the main shipwrights of the company and Iceburg's apprentice. Galley-La has suffered a lot by losing Lucci and Kaku, and if Paulie were to leave on top of that, where would that leave the company and Iceburg?
Franky Family is also dependant on Franky, but as others have said, I find this to be more like the relationship of Sanji and the Baratie workers. Yes, Sanji was important to the Baratie and Zeff, but they didn't "need" him there. The same with Usopp and the "Usopp Pirates". He was idolized by them, but in the end, he left to go on to accomplish his dream. Franky is adored and loved by the Franky Family, no doubt about it, but is he "needed"?
