Yeah… I can totally see that happening.... crap!

The Arabasta arc is gonna be so bad, it'll be funny. So, they'll have to stop everyone in the country from knocking eachother unconscious? I have no idea why, but I think that Kohza will have a German accent. Everyone talks about them changing his past. I haven't gotten to that part yet, so I guess I have to find out.

Senshi Mizaka,
in your dub prediction you included this…
Luffy: Hey, reindeer; shut up and come with us!
That line won't happen, even though that's what he SHOULD say. as anyone who saw the "sneek peek" travesty knows, the line is this...
C'mon Chopper, be our doctor!:bleeding ears:
Thus ruining the humorus scene on the boat where Luffy, Usopp and Zoro learn that he's a doctor.

Don't you recognize a joke when you see one? I know that Luffy would never say that in the dub. I know his original line was something close to what I said, so I'll change it to make it funnier.
-
The dub is some sick shit. I wonder what Oda himself would think if he knew about all this and how his chars were being misjudged because of it.

@Reiza:

If Oda found out what 4Kids is doing to his series… he'd kill every last one of them in less than a day.
-
Usopp: More cowardly, and barely stands up for what he believes in
Nami: Alot pushier in the dub.
Sanji: In one episode, they made him a complete ass! He said something like "My skills are wasted on this stuff!". -

Remember the cooking competition? In the original, he just wanted the fish, but in the dub, they made it so he could prove to everyone how great a cook he is.

When/If they reach Bon Clay, they would either cut him out or turn him into a sterotypical "ugly man-chick". And with all this episode skipping, before we know it, we'll be in Skypeia within a month or three!
I'm also one of those people who wishes 4k1d$ would lose their license and/or go bankrupt. The latter to keep any other animes from their butchering knife.:glare:

Toei had the foresight to turn Bon Clay from an okama into a ballerina. 4Kids does not have to do anything, and even if they did, it wouldn't be much of a stress. Think James of Pokemon. ¬.¬;
Furthermore, I did some thinking on the matter of 4Kids losing its license, and I have to say that there is a zero percent chance. One Piece is roughly a western-set show, so, at base, it is easier to "americanize," than something along the lines of Naruto. Since objectionable material is often romanticized in One Piece, the action can remain intact, while the objectionable material is edited out.
-
Since when is drama, courage, and comradery "objectional content"? The dub is lower than a sick joke by this point, not even a parody.
The action is N.O.T.H.I.N.G. compared to the heart and soul of a series, which 4Kids has succeeded in ripping out and shredding to minute scraps.
I know there's a zero percent chance of them losing/giving up the liscense.
I know they won't go bankrupt anytime soon.
But GodDAMMIT I can hope.
… Sorry for the outburst. >.>
-
For Bon Clay's voice, I have no idea what they'll change it too. He obviously can't sound gay, so my guess is as good as everyone else's. It'll be no surprise if he's snobby and French.
-

No, but gore, sexual innuendos, and relegious icons are.
The action is N.O.T.H.I.N.G. compared to the heart and soul of a series, which 4Kids has succeeded in ripping out and shredding to minute scraps.
That's the whole point of the dub. Do you lot think the target age could cope with the emotion in OP, or even understand it? What happens if some of the kids watching it had events in their lives, such as watching their mother get shot in the head, and they watch anime to cope?
What annoys me are radical Christian groups that fought with Pokemon, ignored Yu-Gi-Oh and then went after OP for it's non-stop violence. "It is sometimes difficult to tell who's the bad guys" (paraphrase) is a side effect of removing the emotion and violence which would be considered more objectionable.
-
Loss of gore, sex, cursing, etc. is minor. That isn't important at all. But, regardless, they've disembowled the series with their reaping of key plot points and all emotion, sense, and fluidity.
As to your second point… If a kid sees their mother shot in the head, I would imagine they'd be fucked up no matter what, everything else be damned. If they turn to the original OP, see the Bellemere episode out of the blue, and it traumatizes them... Well. I can't say I wouldn't sympathize, but...
IT'S A CARTOON. IT ISN'T REAL. Some people need to accept that, and move on. I might apply the same arguement to the whole "Grand Theft Auto" deal, as it's just meant for enjoyment (even if I loathe the game and its themes).
Note "enjoyment." Is the 4Kids version of OP enjoyable? Maybe, to some, but to a good portion of OP fans, it's worthless shit. That isn't going to change, just like 4Kids isn't going to change their ways of bullshitting us.
What is "objectionable" and what is "reprehensible" differs from person to person. One person might find the original "objectionable"; I find the dub "reprehensible." It's a travesty. Hammer guns, finger-pointing dungeon transports, skipping of entire arcs -- where does it end? Where do people draw the line and say "That's enough," and when do they stand up for their beliefs?
... IN THE ORIGINAL ONE PIECE.

That's entirely your opinion. In the opinion of 4Kids, showing anything objectionable is a major blow against their target audience, who usually have regulated, over protective mothers monitoring what they watch.
"Oh, my god! That girl is flashing those boys, but my child is too young to see such things! He won't be raping girls until he's at least sixteen! I'm going to complain and whine on my blog and write some letters".
4Kids is a company. Correction. 4Kids is an American company. It wasn't contracted by the author of a manga to visually recreate a masterpiece. They purchased the rights of a show that they hope will earn them a profit, and if they believe the profit lies in a 5-12 target age of elementary school children, they have the right. They also have the right to deem what is important, and as long as they leave the core of the story, whatever edits they make will be excused.

American companies want huge benefits and fear lawsuits or complaints. 4Kids is no different; if they fear that something objectionable could harm their target audience, they would rather take the safe route than a risk.
What annoys me is the rating system, in particular, the Y7 rating. That rating puts One Piece in the same category as Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragonball, and Gundam. Worse, Looney Toons are rated "G," the equivalent of "Y," when the exhibit more violence than the average episode of One Piece. What the fudge? HYPOCRACY!

Today's average American mother (30-50 years) whored herself in college, did some drugs at one point, then got married to a "solid man". They don't want their kids to go through what they went through (IE, a pleasureable time), and want them to be quite the reverse…god fearing, respectful, and sheltered. Hypocracy, it is. They refuse to acknowledge that their kids are growing up, and consider them perpetual babies, IE, unable to distinguish between a fantasy world and real world.
Because of this, NO influence, either real or fantastic, should enlighten their children to the controversial.
This goes back to the funny debate; it is inappropriate for an elementary school male to see a female breast, even their mothers, but society says a baby or a junior high school male can. What? Shouldn't people get used to nudity so they don't become sexually crazed later in life, like how a large number of Americans today are?
Note "enjoyment." Is the 4Kids version of OP enjoyable? Maybe, to some, but to a good portion of OP fans, it's worthless shit. That isn't going to change, just like 4Kids isn't going to change their ways of bullshitting us.
Observe Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, possibly the only good show on 4Kids. There's a decade difference between fans of the original and fans of this new show; the fanbase had to start out at virtually zero. The same goes for One Piece; fans of the show online liking the dub are simply a bonus, because the majority of fans know no different. If given the comparison, they would pick the online, unedited One Piece…but they are not considered capable of seeking such material.
Hence, OP and TMNT are comparable in ratings. We, the older audience, would rate TMNT much more highly because we know what happened to OP, but to the target audience, there is no original OP to compare the dub to.

But when was the last time James crossdressed? Yep, 2-3 years ago.

Well James still does crossdress, just not as much as he used to, it's sort of rare now

Too tired…wait, I agree wholeheartedly. =D (9)
(1): Exactly. Opinion. I, as usual, go off half-cocked in a fit of rage, spewing fury at every breath. That's mostly my opinion. I whole-heartedly admit I was out-of-line with my last couple of posts, regardless of my own "opinion." I must apologize for that.
(2): I'm still confused over this whole matter. If they have to edit it so severely, why pick it up in the first place? I've got the strangest feeling you'll say something to the effect of "Well, it's meant for kids anyway; Why not let American kids watch it like the Japanese kids do?" Which is, indeed, entirely true. But, you said it yourself, mothers overprotect their children in this country, to the point of utter madness. If 4Kids – being a company FOR KIDS, as their name says -- acknowledges this, why do they continue to license and hack up series that they ought to know won't pass the censors in any sort of decent form? It bewilders me.
(3): Profit. It's said casually all the time -- profit, income, money. Money... That which we use as a thing of value, to purchase goods and services that we need and/or enjoy. Enjoyment... That which we derive pleasure from. Can anyone, with a straight face, say that they derive enjoyment from dungeons, super soakers, and about half the cohesiveness of any real show? Most definitely, which scares the hell out of me.
(4): I think I'll go a little out-of-line on this one. "Right"? They beat, strangle, and hack up a series, hang it by its balls and leave it hanging in the public eye, and they have a "right" to do that? Opinion or no, I stand firm: Nay. Moreover, who is to excuse these edits? Who is to say, "Yeah, it's alright what they've done"? People who watch wholeheartedly, ignorant of any real drama and emotion the series holds? People who recoil in disgust at a "stupid kid's show"? People who've seen the original? Ah -- the original-watchers. The people who've seen Arlong's arc, seen the march and the "comrade" line; people who've heard Luffy declare his will to destroy the room that had so firmly imprisoned Nami, and while doing it, destroy the dreams of the man who had done so much to her? The people who saw Usopp stand after taking a four-ton bat to the head, all for his comrade's dream. Are those the people you want to forgive them?
(5): Again, why license a series for TV in the first place if you can't really air it?
(6): Can't argue with that. I agree.
(7): Ahh. Well, I can't speak too much of that, seeing as how I'm not really well-versed in such matters. But, it does sound to me to be just a TAD obessive, over-protective. Nudity's supposed to be natural, but then someone went and screwed that all up. Dunno who that was. Either way, nudity isn't really an issue for me, at least. I don't really care either way.
(8): Right. Which is pretty much my point -- the people who watch 4Kids TV don't know what they're missing. There's no real prospect for uncut DVDs that I've heard of lately, though I admit I haven't been paying much attention. So, what do American fans have to compare the dub with? Hong Kong fansubs that are of even more questionable quality (and legality, with ties to organized crime)? The only half decent option seems to be K-F, and not everyone has a computer that allows for downloads of 170-250 MB. files, like myself, and a lot of people don't seem to even know there's a different version out there (or don't care)... It's bleak times for One Piece in America, anime-wise. Thank God in Heaven that Viz is doing such a great job; a hell of a lot better than the scans I read when I first started catching up. There are some who could be content with just the manga, and while I'm one of those people, there's a gnawing sensation in the back of my head. I think of the poor suckers who believe that Kuina went to the hospital, or that Bellemere got sent to a dungeon, and I feel pity well up inside me... But, enough of that. I'm tired of arguing.
(9): Well, at least we can find one mutual ideal. That's refreshing, ain't it?
(__): Anyway. You're quite the debater; I agree with a lot of what you said, save for a few parts (which I've elaborated on). You surprised me at a few points, even changed my perspective. But, it seems we just don't see eye-to-eye on this thing.
So, tell you what: We both agree to disagree, we let the discussion go on (feel free to join in), and I'll try my best to keep out. I'm just not suited to this sort of thing, and I can tell I'm just dead weight here. If you interpret it as running away, feel free; your prerogative.
If that's the end of it, "Nice debate!"
If it's not... well... =/ It's still been a nice argument. I thank you for your time, regardless of what the outcome may be.
Cheers.
-
Man All I can say is that with 4kids, Any thing could happen. For all we know they could make a episode where the Strawhats throw a dance party and at this party there would be, Bellemere, Kuina, Ussop's Mom, Dr.Hiruluk,Shank's arm and Zeff's Foot/leg/whatever the hell he lost.
-
Don't be ridiculous! Shanks' arm can't dance!
I wish someone could find a way to neutralise the overprotective parenting. We have to live with broadcast media to placate these people.
They can say "oh, I don't want little Timmy getting screwed up values"
What can we say that doesn't make us sound self-indulgent?
"I prefer that artists' original designs are respected?" "I want my little Timmy facing intellectual and moral challenges in his entertainment so he can develop a mature view of the world?"I find it funny we have people beef "video game and cartoon violence has made kids not value life", and then they avoid any attempt to properly explain things like death in cartoons. Bellemere's death, I'm sure, would make some kid somewhere think twice about what a gun does
-
Seriously, Children arent as stupid as people assume. My Five year old Cousin understands death and real and not real violence. Then again he did say this… "I can't die because i'm allergic to guns."
-
I can see them completely cutting the entire concept of the bomb in Alabasta. At least it'll save them the humiliation of having to cover up Pell's death. I have no idea if they'll even keep Mr. 3 when he shows up at Crocodile's meeting. It wouldn't be a surprise if they cut all the filler episodes. Maybe not, since most of the early fillers have Ace. I know it's been mentioned alot, but what'll they do about Kohza getting shot? Well, nevermind; it should be intact, since they kept Vivi getting shot in Drum Island.
-
About Khoza, I think instead of him getting shot, someone will just thwack him on the back with a staff or something like that.
-
Maybe it'll be really cold water from a super soaker? If they actually do something so stupid, there'll be no need for the "KOOOHZAAAAAAAAAAA!". That would end up sounding pretty bad, too.
-
I forgot… Kohza survives right?
-
Yah Kohza survives, like every other character in One Piece, heck even Pell survived!
When 4kids reaches Alabasta, they probably wont even make a bomb.
-
Imagines the bomb as a confetti ball Oh my, maybe a disco ball.
I still stand by the theory of Kohza being pelted by lots and lots of corks.
-
The bomb will be a disco ball
and Crocodile will make every one BOOGIE untill they get tired…
and then when they are exhuasted... HE WILL STEP IN AND TAKE OVER THE COUNTRY! MUAHAHAHAH!
Crocodile: Let's BOOGIE and shake it down, babeeeeeeeeeeee...
to pull this off they will use scenes from the Jango dance party short...
-

The sad thing is,your true.
-
it could be i disco ball that makes it so bright that makes every one go blind. so pell doesnt die but he is just blind.
-
A disco ball? That's the funniest thing I've heard today!
Crocodile: By using the power of this Super Disco Ball, at 4:30 the Rebel and Royal Armies will dance untill they can dance no more!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHA! It's time to get down with your bad selves!
Vivi: Hey, look; Pell's doing the falling dance!
-

That sounded so wrong…. XD
-
Then, after Crocodile's Dance Party, he gets served, which they explain that it's his defeat. Robin joins them after, then they go straight to Jaya.
-
No…they DANCE to Jaya to jam with Bellamy.
-
Hey, they can use footage from Jango's Dance carnival for that! XD
Seriously though, you guys are just thinking of really nutball stuff now. XD
-
Seriously though, you guys are just thinking of really nutball stuff now.
Well I guess I started the disco ball possibility :glare: everyone just elaborated on it. runs away
-
I'm sure it will still be a bomb, but when it goes off they'll say "Oh look, I can see his parachute, he's OK!"
…OK that was pretty lame of me, but I'm sure something like that will happen. They might even erase that scene altogether since it doesn't directly affect Luffy and Crocodile's match, and 4kids like to skip over things anyway. :glare:
-
Anytime somebodies shot it will show them randomly falling
-
Yup… who knows what 4KIDS is cooking... Cooking something SINISTER I suppose...
-
Are they trying to piss off fans by dubbing these animes because that's all their really doing
-
No, they don't care enough about anime fans to want to piss them off. They simply do not care that anime fans exist, we aren't their target audience. Their target audience are children who don't know what "anime" is and their goal is to make it look like it's as American and un-anime as possible. They said it themselves.

You mean they actually came out and said this? Or maybe I'm just confused. Maybe we should write letters… and break some windows!
-

Yes, basically they did say that. I think the quote was something like "Our goal is that when we get done editing, nobody can tell it's an anime" and they have said that their target audience are not anime fans.
-

I don't know if that should be considered wrong or not… but my guess would be HELLS YEAH thats WRONG... its RETARDED! That would be like having a dog but shaving it down and giving it a dress and in the end say "Well where hoping that at the end it will be a pretty girl and not be a dog"! Oda would be very angry with this I'm sure of it... its his master piece... and to see that its been brought over to America to get set on fire and pissed on!
Uhg there is no point in talking about the dub if its not "anime", as you see the OP I know and love is Anime so I'm not going to pay any attention to something thats not my favorite anime. Because now its two separate things... you have One Piece and now you have a rip off of One Piece.
Somebody hold me lol
-
You mean they actually came out and said this? Or maybe I'm just confused. Maybe we should write letters… and break some windows!
They said when they got Tokyo mew mew…. By the time we edit these shows kids won't know their from Japan. I hate Al Kahn. I'm Japanese and I kind of felt insulted when I read that, must be why it's mew mew power so kids don't know their Japanese even though I think most of them saw Godzilla
-
@Kabuto:
Arlong might have a Hawaiian accent…
that realy insulted me. i'm from hawaii. Burn in hell imbecile!! >=(
-
omg i forgot that this thread was mine. anyways lol July, that would have beeen funny. I think that Arlong will probably have a Russian accent or Hawiian. BUt i kinda doubt Hawiian cuz Pearl got the Hawaiian voice and dont they want to make everyone different? or something.
lol Mou-Moo is gonna be hilarious. Probably some deep retarted voice (worse than Usopp)
Pearl doesn't have a hawaiian voice!I llive in hawaii!idiot…
-
In the dub Nami had bandegas on even though she never cut or stabbed herself…. Those imbeciles
-
Pearl was supposed to sound like a surfer dude, not a Hawaiian.
nguyen, how 'bout Principal Kuno form Ranma? XD -
4kids is obviously killing OP and what future dubs do u think it will have.. i hope this isn't already a thread.
For one thing i know that probably the reason why Zoro and Sanji fight in the Arlong Arc will probably not be shown or just changed.
And what are they gonna do for Smoker?
Lollypopper?! and if 4kids even plan on getting to Mr. Crocodile, then how aare they gonna do that.
It shouldn't be called 4kids… it should be called 2kids (Too kids)
as in... Too much things for kids.. gosh.. and hows that Mew Mew Power gonna go.. uh-oh.
Actually…4Kids suits it well. lol. It is after all the US One Piece 4 Kids. XD
