I don't think 200,000 people die every few weeks in Haiti. This isn't Sub-Saharan Africa (I don't even think it happens there).
As far as the earthquake goes, I'm looking out for scamers. Last time there was a major disaster (typhoon? quake? I've forgotten) there were a lot of scams going on when it came to people donating money. I'd imagine it'll be the same here.

Yes its sad and it sucks to have things like this to happen for a people who already were stripped from almost everything and this earthquake hit most hardest on the poorest and weakest. Its tragic and its just fuked up and people who died had not do anything to deserve something like this to happen.
But should we care? No, not really if we dont give a shit what has been happening in Africa for atleast 30 years (well it was topic back in 70's and 80's but its just dont intrest people anymore) or what has been happening to Burma (was in topic back at 80-90's).

R u serious? Being as that I'm Dominican, I can tell you that the Dominican Republic is NOT a rich country. Its richer than Haiti, thats for sure, but it is in no way rich. They are also helping Haiti, they have already sent some supplies to help the people. They are also the ones who have brought the news people, from CNN and other networks, over to Haiti.

Here's the earthquake footage caught on camera.
GXHopCrs46UI was watching the news throughout yesterday and couldn't help noticing something odd.
Everywhere the film crew went appeared to have a burning tyre. Now this wouldn't be that abnormal if this tyre wasn't in the middle of a field, road, football pitch and pavement away from any possible source of fire. Again I know this sounds odd to mention but the feeling I got from the reporters suggested they were trying to make it appear as dramatic as humanly possible. (It looks like its the same tyre too, but just used in different locations)
Either way I'm hoping every major power will make a decent contribution towards food, shelter and re-establish phone lines, water, electricity and all the other necessities needed to help return Haiti to its former state.
I guess the hardest thing right now is to treat all the injured with no hospitals standing.

Of course post-quake Haiti is used for political tool to gather sympathy and popularity when helping them, not that I condemn such things, I dont care why you help them but just do send some help.

Some major populace areas suffer from 7.5-8.5 richters and can get off with only tens of thousands casualties. Even citys of Japan are often suffering earthquakes but buildings are build to stand them so casualties numbers stays relatively low.
Earthquake always struck hardest on buildings that are poolry made, such as most buildings at Haiti, thats why it was specially devastating.

About the Dominican Republican supposedly being rich, it's not even a tiny bit rich. The cities are basically your average poor, filthy cities, but land inwards it only gets worse. When I was in the Republic I went on a "safari" to see the beautiful nature and when we drove through a poor town dozens of children came running after our jeep begging for food.
The only income the DR gets is from us, tourists. And that's not enough by a long shot.
