I think the longest manga ever is that one in weekly jump (I don't know what it's called) but one of the guys has the huge unibrow.

Kochikame. An ungoing comedy oriented manga about a goofy ass cop named Ryotsu. I've never read it, but I really want to.
-
Ohh, I've heard of that one~ He's supposed to be like the Homer Simpson of Japan, only he's a cop and isn't married.
-
I don't really know much about other manga, but the longest I know is probably Doraemon. :(
-
Kochi Kame has 145 vols as of now.
Doraemon has 45 volumes. Though, they're releasing new batch of Doraemon recently. -

btw, it's not the longest, but hajime no ippo has around 70 vol ans is not over, right? and how long "touch" is?_
-
ya hajime no ippo is still going strong and has 73 volumes. (I seriously hope the guy doesn't die before finishing the series)
Jojo also has like 73 volumes I think -
Doesn't Detective Conan have a lot too?
-
Geessh, that Mangka don't seem to stop making the manga, and it's very ignored from public
-
'Golgo 13'
it's about a professional sniper doing his dangerous tasks around the world,
and I heard it recently the series reached volume 100 and still going  .Detective Conan recently reached 50, btw.
-
Yeah, I read in my manga book that this is one of the longest manga series ever created. But I'd really like to try and read at least one or two chapters of KochiKame. Though I wonder how old the manga artist is?

me too, but with 145 volumes how am i ever going to catch up??

lol, i know what you mean, how many earth-shattering punches to the face can a guy take before he kicks the bucket?
-
Wow… Can't say I've heard of them. I was going to say Dragonball as it has 42 volumes but frankly that's nothing compared to them.
Though this may be slightly off topic, IMO there is a downside to having a large number of volumes - the chance of the plot becoming stale and repetitive.

Jojo has 84 volumes(well, SBR should be counted as well, I mean Stone Ocean is?), with 85 coming in August. Still going.

kochikame: 1976
golgo 13: 1968
kochikame does have more chapters though.

see i do not now how mangaka can do it for that long i can see 40-60 but anything past 100 wow.
-
How can they keep coming up with new ideas?
-
I think it's probably easier with a manga like Kochikame, because with comedy plot is pretty irrelevant with very few ongoing story arcs (though I haven't read Kochikame, I'm assuming it's similar to this).
-
If you have so many ideas then it's hard to gear away from them when you want to end a series. But I doubt that the mangaka of Kochikame would want to end such a long series. I would find it hard too to find a way to end a series all of a sudden (it'd kind of feel odd).
-
Has the story of Detective Conan progressed recently? Or is it still case after case? Truthfully, I feel kind of sick…

Storytellers vary.
Some can tell episodic stuff easily..(Kochi Kame)Some can make these big epic quests where every step matters (One Piece)
If the story requires a damn long time to finish, then you finish it. But go no farther than the end, or you'll fall to the same devils as Dragonball.
Length varies as much as the stories. Thats that.

It might be ignored by English audience, but not by Japanese. It's just hard for English readers because it contains a lot of cultural references. I don't think translators want to bother translating every single of them.

_Unlike One Piece, Kochi Kame is collection of daily life; I remember reading how people in Japan do when they were little, one chapter talked about Barbie from Otaku point of view, etc. The author just can write about anything, really.

Does anyone know how I can get Kochikame from y-anime? I don't see any information on how to do so on their site..
-
go to their channel on irchighway I'm sure you can download it from there.
-
Yep, Kochira Kameari. It's a damn hilarious manga about a cop who has all of these Homer Simpson esque escapades. It's been running since the late 70's I do believe.

2. Shin Kotaro Makaritoru : forgot the vol
3. Shin Kotaro Makaritoru L : the manga still goes on… -
@Cap'n:
Does anyone know how I can get Kochikame from y-anime? I don't see any information on how to do so on their site..
KochiKame v01 ch01
KochiKame v135 ch01
KochiKame v135 ch02That's all we've done… v01 ch02 has been translated forever, but no one has gotten around to editing it, heh.

@joekido:

Maybe not ignored, but it's not exactly the most popular series ever. I always wondered how it could continue so long too lol. It's funny to watch every once in a while tho.
-
I've heard that while Kochikame beats Golgo in tank and chaps, Golgo beats KK in pages. This is total hearsay so put no stock in that.
-
The only manga that I can think of is Lupin the III and Dragonball… But thats it and isnt Crayon Shinchan still going strong?
-
140+ volumes? Well that deserves a DAMN!!!!
