While browsing the UK version of amazon, I decided to do a search for One Piece books. I was already aware that number eight would be out in October, three months after number seven (not counting July) and to my surprise found out that number nine will be out in January, three months after number eight (not counting October). Obviously I have no way of telling if this trend will continue, but at this rate we should get an increase in the number of graphic novels released each year. Personally I'm quite happy by this recent turn of events.

Dude, thats like the same release date as always.
Volume 9 will in reality probably be out by Feburary. -
By 2003, two books are released
By 2004, three books are released
By 2005, three books are released.
I hope by 2006, five books would be released. -

Dude, thats like the same release date as always.
Volume 9 will in reality probably be out by Feburary.I'm not so sure myself. According to Amazon.co.uk these are the dates for the previous books:
#1 - July 03
#2 - October 03
#3 - May 04
#4 - July 04
#5 - November 05
#6 - March 05
#7 - July 05
#8 - October 05
#9 - January 06To me the upcoming release dates don't quite look like the average ones. You may be right and this may be a one off, or maybe, just maybe Viz may release more. Heck I can dream can't I?
-
Well Viz is putting three chapters a month in Shonen Jump more often than naught so that could be why there are more release dates.
-
i didnt know it took that long for manga to come out here…would prolly save time just to learn japanese and buy the jap ones
-
Or use Stephen's scripts. Or read the scans, and have the tankos to own and look at.

#3 - May 04
Don't ya mean March?

i'm not sure whether the english manga's follow the trends and releases of the japanese manga but i remember reading someone in sbs asking oda wat the trends were for releasing the volumes. he sez the patterns were 1 volume evry 3 months, 1 volume again after 3 months and 1 volume after 4 months. this is apparently the cycle in japan, im not sure whether its true but i just read it in sbs. i hope this helps
-
no it doesn't cause at that rate it would take more than 10 years to get to where the latest volumes are in japan (38)
-
4 volumes come out a year usually in Japan, though sometimes 5.
Viz releases 3 a year.
Thems the facts.
-
you guys are lucky, back in my day, viz released ranma 1/2 and inu-yasha books with TWO chapters every month, and the comics cost about 3 bucks each, so 4 chapters for about how much u.s. shonen costs now.
plus the volumes only came out TWICE every year. and they cost FIFTEEN DOLLARS.
i laugh at your plight. anyways i don't think many people here buy the offical english translations, when their most likely a) buying japanese books or B ) leeching and never paying a dime for the book.
-
they cost fifteen dollars for a reason they were like twice as big and the paper quality was much better.
-
I find it hilarious that I WANT to give them money for product, but they aren't coming out fast enough for me.
I'd skip right ahead and get volumes 8-10 if available….(squeal inappropriate for a male, sounding vaguely like "fishmen" but in a voice only dogs can hear), but for now, I'm pondering if I should get 3 and 4, or see if any of the large online booksellers will do free shipping if I expand the order to 3-5 or 3-6.
-
get shonen jump u.s. to the popularity of shonen jump jp. that's how more graphic novels will come out and sooner.

I know those options exist but I like reading them in books form in a language I can understand by simply looking at it rather than being stuck infront of my comp or reallying on someone else's translations. Sure, I might look into doing that in the future, but right now this is how I want to do it. And I don't care if I'm the only member on the board who does this. It's the way I want to do it.
