White said management told her that "someone might get offended."Reason I can accept for being told not to fly the flag of your own country IN YOUR COUNTRY:
It's fucking loud and obnoxious.
Have you ever been put through the hell of trying to get some goddamn sleep, only to hear some giant flag (or flags) flapping in the breeze, their metal rigging smacking against a pole countless times as you attempt to tear off your ears to make it stop?
That reason I can totally understand and it makes sense when you've got idiots plastering everything they own, including their pets, with our flag, and not even bothering to respect the rules of handling our flag by letting it sit out at night without lights on it, or even worse, actually bothering to light it up when you've got neighbors.
But that is bullshit no matter what country you live in.

Hell, I'd buy him a korean flag for his door. the only flag anyone should be offended by is a nazi flag.

There's tons of foreign flags flown in America. You can't go two feet in some cities without seeing Cuban, Italian or Irish flags.

In England you have to get permission from your local council to have a flag on your house, as it could be considered racist.
Even the company I work for has to have a multitude of other flags along side our own for it to be allowed.

What the fuck lol.

@Karate:
What the fuck lol.
This is what happens when you let thousand of immigrants into the country without the populations consent.
Welcome to the new PC Britain…....God save the fkin Queen.

Yeah man, America has never dealt with that.
-
@Karate:
Yeah man, America has never dealt with that.
America has a lot of immigration, but not in comparison to England's citizen to immigrant ratio.
Immigration has contributed half of Britain's population growth in 10 years.
-
And that still compares to shit in regards to the American turn of the century.
I bet most of the white americans here have at least half their ancestory as coming from on the boat.
And unlike you we have a huge border with a third world country.
You have legal immigrants. -

You have legal immigrants.True, although the impact we are having at the moment seems greater due to the recession.
I wont get in an in-depth debate about Americas history of immigration as I know next to nothing about it. Or at least not enough to put up a good defence when comparing it to England.

Hold up. For real? You sure that isn`t just like an ordinance in locations because of some other reason?

Clearly not in Hertfordshire and several other counties across England.

You need planning permission to have a flag up unless its one of the limited few flags that are exempt.

@Bad-Beat:
what part of that horrible page am I meant to be looking at?
I couldn't be bothered to put anything decent up at the time but here's a small section that covers the basic guidelines set in place.
Under Schedule 1 Class H of the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007, national flags, the flags of the Commonwealth, European Union, the United Nations, English counties and certain saints can be flown without the express consent of local authorities as long as they satisfy the standard conditions for the display of advertisements generally and the conditions and limitations set out within Class H itself.
Flag of St. George does not meet the guild lines set out and has to be granted planning permission.
The regulations have been under dispute for a few years and could have been changed recently or removed, so I might be going off old information.
-
How does that in any way prove your point?
-
@Bad-Beat:
How does that in any way prove your point?
Don't expect me to bloody spoon feed you all the relevant pieces of information. That fact that you haven't got a clue about what I'm referring to either means you've got your head up your arse or your just obscenely ignorant.
-
Ok, just so we are clear.
You post in a thread about not being able to put up a flag, with no proff whatsoever. I challenge this and say you are wrong. I give you an oppourtunity to do so, but don't.
So I'll do it instead. The website we shall refer to is this one
Parliament.uk The website of all Parliamentary precedings.
In this report it statesIndividuals and organizations may fly the Union Flag whenever they wish, subject to local planning requirements.
and
Under Schedule 1 Class H of the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007, national flags, the flags of the Commonwealth, European Union, the United Nations, English counties and certain saints can be flown without the express consent of local authorities as long as they satisfy the standard conditions for the display of advertisements generally and the conditions and limitations set out within Class H itself.
Everything you posted on Page 52 should be ignored unless for the purposes of showing others what an idiot you are.
-
Okay so what I'm getting is that it IS illegal but in certain regions, not all across the country?
-
No it isn't illegal, you can do what the fuck you want.
-
Now, not attempting to be an ass, I'm just trying to fully understand so I don't sound like a goon. What you posted from the Parliamentary preceedings did state that 'subject to local planning requirements' and in the second block:
as long as they satisfy the standard conditions for the display of advertisements generally and the conditions and limitations set out within Class H itself.
And I don't think Smudge would blatantly make up a story so I guess in a roundabout way I'm asking, did that specific area find a way to make the flag unsatisfactory to meet the so-called 'standard conditions'? Because there's a lot of sneaky rules like that here in Japan that will make some dumbass pointless rule but it makes something else illegal which is the real goal.
Not calling anyone a liar, I just don't wanna go around with incorrect info.
-
Class H refers to advertisements alongside the flag. If you just host a normal Union Jack/St. George or whatever from your house no police are going to show up.
SMUDGE hasn't made up this story, tabloid media has. They take incidents and spread the truth of the story so thinly they do whatever they want with it.
You can find information on Class H here:
Schedule 1 Class H of the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007It is a way of preventing groups like the far-right BNP from exploiting the flag for their own purposes.

Awesome, thank you.

Speaking of the BNP, what are your guys views on the fact they'll have to
soon let black people join, as otherwise it's job discrimination.I found it pretty funny, myself, considering they are white supremisists. It's irony
at it's finest. But do you think any Black people would actually want to join ?Considering they're racist.

"Hey…everything's still....here?"This is creepy.
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=113347Now, if you're one that was targeted by that you're obviously in the, "Hmmm geeeeee….I'm not a Democrat, and I'm not a Republican, nor am I a Liberal, or a Conservative and I'm certainly not Independent. I really don't know what I think so I think I'll let my TV think for me."-group but it's still unsettling that someone would discuss openly how they were able to distract people from the reasons/motivation behind catchy phrases and platforms.
It's a campaigning tactic as old as politicians themselves, but still it creeps me the hell out.

Uh-oh, people thinking differently, time to silence them
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/10/18/white-house-escalates-war-fox-news-1925819282/So…everyone and their mother knows that Fox News is anything but balanced. It runs stories dripping with Conservative angle and bias.
Uh…so?
If everyone knows that then why be worried about it?
"Because some people might believe everything they hear on it as being 100% true."
So?
Do you know so much better than them that you think absolutely every single report and story DOESN'T have another way of looking at it? Not to mention, the other options lean so far in the other direction it really just looks terrible to show favoritism to venues that agree with you.
"But Greg, they have Republicans and Conservatives on CNN!"
Yeah...the same way Fox presents the man who I know is surely the Democratic voice of my generation, Colmes. -_-;
Is it just me that thinks this is uncool? It's one thing to rag on them for being extremely biased, but it's another to actually persuade people to attempt to ignore them because they offer a different opinion.
"But Greg, their opinion sucks and is always wrong! Nazis! White supremacists! Palin-lovers! Pedophile priests!"

Can't blame 'em. No chapter this week.
Annnnnd that's where my biting quip would have ended if not for:
"Think of your favorite cartoon character. Spongebob, Scooby-doo or Tom and Jerry."
What the shit? Do their reports on video games include references to Barbie's Pony Rider and Space Invaders?
"We got to talking and realized dramatic pause this is just too far."
Translation:
"My dudez wz afk and snapped the shot of teh Pedobear and me wz all WTF ROTFLMAO w3 cn be on teh newzors dudez! L3tz pretend w3 giv a shit and c4ll the newzors!"

But Greg! When it comes to any actual issues not revolving around sand art you're a gigantic pussy who stridently tries to be as neutral as possible and spits venom and acid at anything that moves in a political direction!
Why should I give a flying fuck about anything you have to add on the subject of bias and opinion! -
A:Hey y'know, a progressive income tax seems reasonable and.."
Greg:WHOA THERE MARX, SLOW DOWN THE ENGINES"
B:A responsibly free market is a good thing, not given to corruption and monop-"

The next step to saving our already dying planet is to give up meat.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/environment/article6891362.ece
You heard it folks.
“I am 61 now and attitudes towards drinking and driving have changed radically since I was a student. People change their notion of what is responsible. They will increasingly ask about the carbon content of their food.”
Ho boy.
-
oh this is nothing new. it takes less space and energy to grow wheat etc to feed us, then to grow it to feed the cows and then we need space for the cows, etc…it's more effective to just grow plants.
actually, I heard on the news this morning, that owning a dog is as bad as owning an SUV, carbon footprint wise.
I don't think we should give up meat, but western society is too obsessed about it. We need to eat more veggies to be healthy anyways.

Au Contraire, it feels as if everytime I turn on the T.V. or browse the Internet I'm always seeing ads about eating healthier and eating more veggies and to exercise more etc.
I love fruits n veggies, but I love meat as well. I eat pretty healthy (not fat, lol) and I exercise a lot as well.

French court convicts scientologists of fraud.
