I just hope it isn't 8 fights in a row… especially since they all have the same powers.
Chapter 375 "Enies Lobby's Super Beings" Discussion
-
-
i want to see something like this:
**CP9 member: i'm so going to beat you up to a pulp!!
sogeking: shakes fist you want a piece of this?
CP9 member: HAAHH! do I want a piece of THAT? i'll BREAK it into pieces!
sogeking: then shall we step outside and get this done and over with?
CP9 member: ALLRIGHT![cp9 member falls into the bottomless abyss]
sogeking: good. that takes care of him.**
-
Although that would make me happy, e1n, I hope it DOESN'T happen to one of the four original CP9. They deserve a much better defeat than that. Hopefully, Zipper-mouth or Kabuki-wannabe takes that plunge.
-
Well, I'm glad CP9-EL seem to be the sort of eccentric counter balance to the more serious CP9-W7. I couldn't take every single fight being strictly serious from the get-go! I think they'll provide the Ms. Merrychristmas/Mr. 4 & Bon Clay type of fights, serious.. but with a lighter tone. Whereas I'd think with CP9-W7, it'd be down to business immediately.
-
Bah, you people are hopeless. I think One Piece is at it's absolute best when it's serious, which is why I was absolutely LOVING Water Seven up until the train situation.
-
You'll definitely get the serious fights. But having Mr. 1/Zoro type serious all the time, would not be my idea of One Piece at it's absolute best. That's why I'm glad that those three might mix it up a bit.

I disagree, One Piece is awesome all around because it has a balence of light hearted comedy with seriousness that starts around the middle of a story arc.
If there's too much seriousness, it gets dull. Espically with extreme stuff like cancer or people dying alot. But with too much comedy, it could turn into a nonsensal series like Bobobo or Excel Saga and the plot would never progress.
The same thing goes with the villians. If they are serious badasses, it would cheapen each seperate serious badass like Crocodile and if they are all goof balls like Bon Clay, One Piece would lose the seriousness that Oda plans to have some of the times (An exception would be how a goofy guy like Spandam could be so EVIL.)
But I'm done rambling now. Love all of the CP9 agents, no matter how they act.
-
I share your opinion. Hmm, let's see. I guess I like the Arlong Park battle because none of the main villains are stupid looking. Yes, even Hatchi.
Those who usually look stupid or silly gets defeated faster! That's the highlight; look at Satori, the silliest looking of the four priests. Hatchi wouldn't have given Zoro much trouble if he's not injured.
But then again, if these new ones are at the same level (or slightly lower) than the original 4 (I'm resisting to call them the Fab 4)… then the feat of all of them being beaten would boost the SH's name to the skies... and the World Govt.

Wow, then it's amazing how you went through the series up to this point.
I personally adore the wacky villains, but I really like the serious stuff too. The W7 CP9 group was cool and all, but their seriousness made them dull and and a bit boring to me. They're still cool, but I don't really like any of them (Except Blueno). Right now, I already fell in love with these three new stooges.
-
i think the new ones are just as strong as the orginal 4 but they seem to lack their discplin :P
and Battle franky i think that the 2 groups personaly dont like each other but they will have good team work anyhow cause that is like the trademark of CP9
-
just my 2cents: oda is amazing because he always manages to insert AT THE VERY LEAST a one panel joke in every serious fight. zoro vs mr1, i was hella cracking up when he had that flashback when his teacher said "watch," then swung his sword to cut a piece of paper but nothing happened to it, which pissed little zoro off. that was great.
i think the amount of hilarity doubles when they're inserted in the middle of a serious scene. takes the tension away.
sorta like in a courtroom, when the lawyer walks up to the judge and says "your honor, my client…." then continues in an indian accent "would like to plead guilteeee!"

Personally, what I think would be awesome is a huge brawl of a showdown. Kinda… Mr. Smith-esque.
Not that I seriously suspect it'll HAPPEN but that would be cool for me. I mean, yeah, 'cause like you said, it would get... really, really freakin' repetitive with all of the fights. Yeah, the Straw Hats + Franky + Paulie + EVERYONE ELSE has a variety of skills to toss on the table, but they're all eating chicken when you get down to it and there's only so many ways one can do that. (... If that makes sense.)
If it's in a brawl then everyone is showcased at once and you're not left with 30x chapters of 'time to D-D-D-D-D-D-DUEL !!1! / oh i'm beat / I BEET U HARD / ouch / LOL I WIN DRAMATIC SPEECH ABOUT LOVE AND CHOCOLATE'

The Arabic name for the gate was long believed to refer to Islamic justice or law - charia. But in fact this was a misinterpretation for a similar-sounding word, and it has been shown that the translation should be Gate of the Esplanade. Its multiple arches are decorated with the Hand of Fatima, Mohammed's daughter, and the key to the Islamic paradise, as well as a Virgin and Child placed there by the Catholic Monarchs to consecrate the gate for Christianity"**

I like the idea of a huge brawl, but I'm just afraid that we won't get to see enough of the specific awesomnesses of some characters that we would in a normal 1 on 1…. or something. I dunno if that made sense.

That's what I was sort of getting at, they're like the polar opposites of unofficial factions. Notice how badly CP9-EL f*cked up the mission Spandam gave them, whilst CP9 had some hitches, but delivered in the end.
I'd think there'd be some hostilities & in fighting between groups, I really question how much the 7 of them (minus Spanda) can effectively function as a team, plus they haven't been together in 5 years. It'd kind be like a high school reunion in a way, seeing who made something of themselves and who didn't. (I'm thinking CP9-EL would be the latter) :P
-
hey…check it out...on the 2nd last post...Franky's name is spelt as
FANKY...
I wonder if it is Oda's mistake or thats the way its suppose to be...hahaha
anywa...if anybody already said this...SORRY,...
-
Battle Franky:Haha, so the CP9-EL were the bullies, and the original four were the nerds? XD
-
… or it could be the other way round. ;)

Well, yeah, there'd have to be highlights. I don't imagine Franky would really get any since he already did his stuff with Nero unless he gets a couple shots of BITING SPANDAM IN THE HEAD (I want to see that sooo bad now), but Nami would, Usopp, I would suspect Paulie if what I hopes pan out does pan out, definitely Luffy, probably Zoro, the others… well, yeah, of course they'd still be there but there wouldn't be too much focus. Chopper perhaps if Brain Point comes in, Sanji... Sanji I actually kind of doubt, since he's been in the spotlight so much ever since he came back with 'Bingo', but you never know.
But if a brawl like that does pan out I think it might go like that.

Ah, still have to wait for next week for the battle. Since there are exactly eight CP9 (including Spandam), then will it be 8 1-on 1 battles? We have 7 Strawhats plus one Franky…
naaaaaaaaaa i think franky'n' robin will not fight because they're captured and taked to prisons…
the best thing is that the big frog is a nakama (or something like that) and HE'LL FIGHT.
I hope in a frog vs. elephant fight... HOW GREAT! :D:D:D:Di'm really considering that they'll take pluton ship with franky and all franky family like crewmembers. on blueprints pluton appears a big galleon...

Thank you for the chapter and translations.
Neat chapter, and I liked the three members of #9 introduced this chapter, though zipper-mouth isn't one of my favorite design-wise. I've wanted a lot of things this arc (seeing the whole of CP9 whupped, and earlier on, just seeing Sanji reappear PERIOD), but I want one thing in particular above all that.
I WANT TO SEE WHAT THE GALLEY-LA BOYS CAN DO.
C'mon! Paulie! Lulu! Tileston! Show your real stuff, and redeem yourselves, already!! I want especially to see Paulie in action, and I want him to kick some ass!
-
I wanna see Lulu the WEAPON MASTER! He's like Ghost from Enter the Matrix!

Who wants to bet that Fukurou will give away some vital CP9 secret(s) to the RM group? I can see it playing out now:
RM member: So where's Franky/Robin being held?
Fukurou ….
Fukurou: ~unzips~
Fukurou: Sorry my lips are sealed!
RM member: Ah, c'mon guy... tell us!
Fukurou: Oh ok, down the hall take a left & it's the last cell on the right. But you didn't hear it from me.. chababa!
Fukurou: ~zips~-_-
-
Maaah, Franky's gonna join, I think…. Franky NEEDS to join....
Mmmm.... Frannnnkyyyy

Luffy has become a bit more smart throughout the story. I bet that once he hear's Sogeking's voice, he'll know it's Usopp. But, something will keep him from getting angry and hitting him and pretend he doesn't know who he is until the very end.
Also, for all those who want Franky to join the Strawhats. He's just too powerful.

All fight are serious if u take them in that way. But if i must choose a zoro fight prefer a fight like the groggy ring instead that one vs ohm… -
I´m a little bit late and I´m in a hurry so sorry if that has been mentioned before, but someone please explain this to me:
Robin tells Franky that Iceburg is alive which seems to be new to Franky. And she got her information from Usopp (Sogeking).
Ok, Usopp get´s his information from listening to Sanji and to the Den Den Mushi call he had with Nami.
So now for the confusing part. Franky was there all the time and whitnessed everything. He even started singing and crying because he felt touched of what he just heard. So if he heard all that, then he should have actually heard that it was an alive Iceburg who told everyone the truth about Nami.
So basically Robin told him something that he should have be aware of before her but it still appeared to be new to him. Confusing.
Other than that, another brilliant Oda chapter. I was thinking the entire time that there will be more opponents waiting at Enies Lobby but I never expected that it will be more CP9 members. The brilliant part is actually, that Oda never said that Spandam, Lucci, Kaku, Blueno and Calipha are the entire CP9 agents just that they were part of it. Incredible how often Oda bluff´s us with very easy methods. A true genius. :)

great

Peach-chan, your avatar is great. xD Makes me hungry for fruit.

Yeah, watch them have all kinds of weird freaky powers…

i dont like the silly characters…its O K..idk..i love lucchi..hes just so evil and looks awesome...my absolutely fav villain as of yet
-
I wasn't really a Franky fan before but, dude biting someones head like that just made me bust up laughing. He's moved his way up on my favs list by several steps with that move.
-
DAMN. I knew it'd become better if I sat on it, but man. I looked at the scans again a second ago and started cracking up at the rest of CP9. This is going to be awesome. So many reunions and all…..... I can only hope 376 is next week.

**Well, I think it depends on how Nami said it. If she said "Iceburg told me about Robin's deal," it wouldn't actually mean he's still alive. CP9 was very confident in his lair, so he probably didn't bother to confirm Ice's death.
-
i dont think nami even bothered saying "iceburg told me this.."
i mean, looking at the situation, it makes sense if she just said "look. robin is blah blah blah" without specifying the source.
-
Perhaps I should explain myself just a bit better.
I LIKE the humor in One Piece most of the time. It IS a funny series. I PRefer the serious moments, but I still can laugh at the jokes.
However, one thing that I do not find funny is when Oda makes a slew of really… stupid character designs. Jerry getting tangled in himself is not funny. Wanze making ramen from his nose is not funny.
However, what annoys me more about these particular new characters having such stupid character design is the nature of CP9. CP9 is a top secret organization created for espionage and assassination, and Luchie, Kaku, Califa and Blueno all seem to be able to play that part, being able to keep their identities under wrap for five years while they put an elaborate plan into motion. It may not be funny, but it's believeable. However, these new guys? We have a Kabuki Player, a long, silly-haired loudmouth, and a giant egg with a zipper for a mouth. It's no wonder they seem to botch missions regularly, one look at them and you realize something's not right. They are NOT believeable, even in the context of One Piece.
Now, I can accept freakshow-esque characters in groups like Baroque Works, or working for Eneru. But for the World Government? I don't buy it.
Sorry if I wasn't very clear, it's just that I think the character designs recently are almost cheapening the mood the arc began with.
-

Jerry and Wanze kick ass. I'm declaring a jihad on you.
I don't see why the Government wouldn't hire goofy looking weirdos. I mean damn, every Marine we saw before Smoker was a total oddball, and the troop wear BASEBALL CAPS. Plus not hiring goobers based on their looks would be discriminatory, and profiling is wrong.

I second that statment and im joining that Jihad,
im so fricking happy that he decided to put in some oddballs in the CP9 cause its only the weird ones that are really lovable(of course with the exception of Blueno :) )
and i really dont see why looks should matter when your main job is to be a goverment assasin it should basicly be all about their skills (which they have plenty of it seems).

**yah i kinda agree…cept i'm not gonna go jihad or w/e it is...but i didnt think jerry or wanze were funny either though..but still orignal and clever..jerry freaked me out cause he was so tall..O__O...but he only played a small part..so idc..i didnt like wanze at first..but i soon did seeing how the fight turned out...and i loved how oda used that fight to show sanji's other fighting side with knives..so i dont really mind the weird character designs...cause usally the fight does turn out interesting..so to me..its the fight that counts and what makes up for the weird character design
-
You missed my point. It's the fact that they hire goofy looking weirdos… FOR A JOB INVOLVING SECRECY AND STEALTH. Heck, Fukurou's first LINE proved he was a security issue. I understand the government is fairly screwed up in this (what with wanting to revive a weapon that can destroy the entire world) but even that's a little too screwed up in my eyes.
Edit: And on the posts I missed while posting... Original and Clever? Yes. Good thing? Not always. Sometimes, an original idea, no matter how clever, becomes stupid if implemented poorly, and I just felt these characters have, thus far, been implemented poorly.
However, I'll give the security risk trio a chance... at least they didn't utterly repulse me at their first appearance like Wanze did.

its usually the odd ppl who have the unique abilities to carry out such missions even though they look incompetent. even in reall life its like that. cant think of any examples at this moment, but its def true. and lucchi makes up for their weirdness
-
I understand, Himizujin, it's just that I don't see it that way. Oda's ability to put a stupid face on a top agent just can't be anything other than good in my mind. I don't even like taking the story seriously unless there's a message that goes out to real people as well. So, I'm glad I can laugh my ass off while waiting for a badass fight and a tearjerking resolution.
But hey, for story reasons, maybe they were kept around because they're masters of Rokushiki. Lucci punked Nero for being incomplete, but these guys are. Maybe they didn't start out as freaks. And maybe they won't even stay. Lucci hasn't seen these guys in five years, and we don't know how he'll react to them screwing up and all.
-
I think a lot of times what is implimented is to stand out so no one will suspect, CP9 didn't get jobs at low lvls, they choses them in very noticable places, high ranking shiprwrites, Barkeeper at the bar into everyone goes to, and personal assistance right next to Iceberg.
People would look at a odd person or someone standing out, and say wow they stick out like a sore thumb if they tried anything someone would notice. -

Yeah, I do get what you're saying, but I pretty much agree with what Bucc said.
-
Hey!! did anyone notice the panda man on the front page!??! right after Mr 5 you see the panda man screaming for attention!! tats neat! hahaha….
-
they didnt really fail they still completed the mission and killed the 3 important guys just that they also killed 20 other people they werent supposed to :P
and even if Luchi thinks they are a disgrace to the CP9 and the WG with their carlessness i doubt that he could just get rid of them since they are atleast at the same level as he and his troop is,
maybe stronger since they are a man short.and besides they are kept around for a reason their strengths probably well out weigh their flaws
-
Wait now. We can't possibly be talking about the lameness of Jyabura. That guy is bonafide suave, bay-bee.
-
Jabura does look awesome. I love that kind of design.
