Clay makes sense, but Ground doesn't.
There aren't Devil Fruits that give you control of vague nouns like "ground", what does that count? Rock? Dirt? Sand? Concrete? Wood floors?
And considering earthquakes have nothing to do with topsoil why would a ground themed DF let him do that?
And the plant thing is just ridiculously convoluted and a completely different sort of power altogether. The rose tattoo is no more an indication of DF power then Aokiji's nightshade is of him having a sleep based power, or Luffy having a straw based power.And don't double post.

I also find it weird how a general theme throughout the manga has been how the past doesn't matter and its current action that is relevant. Whats with all this sudden obsession with blood ties and similar feudal japanese thinking -_-.

Lights, all types, can be easily grouped as one phenomena, whereas something that can cover basically anything people stand on not so much.
Dirt makes a lot more sense, so I go back and say again…

The reason I brought it up was because I felt like the recent arc has put a lot of emphasis on who is related to whom. Rather than specifically working on character development.

I'm sorry are you confused? One Piece is a written work, and the characters and their actions are all the imaginings of Mr. Oda. As such gradual changes in his approach to writing the series ought to be critiqued like any other written work.

Therefore, it's only natural not to accept Monkey.D Dragon as a father of his, and if we would try to set a fictional correlation beetween the characters, i suppose that Dragon is Garp's son and Roger has to be a brother of Garp or his best buddy. There is no way he were a son of his as well, and we are not used on correlation beetween distant family members like aunts, uncle etc..
The plot and the justification why Ace is introduced as Luffy's brother i think it's not that important.. Garp only had to fullfil and accept Roger's wish as his last action. The only certain is that noone saw that coming, and that's what rly makes its amazing.
