I posted this on OPMv2 last month, but I kind of thought this month would only be 3 chapters, next month would be 5 chapters, then the following month would be 3 chapters. Of course it could be 4 and 4, but either way, Alabasta will end in 2 more months. Next month, I think they'll run: "209 - I'll Surpass You", "210 - 0", "211 - King", "212 - A Small Justice", and "213 - VIP". Then that leaves the last 3 chapters of Alabasta for the following issue. It was disappointing not to hear ANYTHING about the acceleration, but I think this issue might have gone into printing before they announced it or before they decided on it. They didn't even mention the Funi Simulcast….in either case, I think we'll hear the big news about One Piece next issue, with 5 chapters of One Piece, and Luffy on the cover...after all the covers this year have been Ichigo, Naruto, Ichigo, Ichigo, Naruto, Naruto, and Ultimo - time to give One Piece a cover this year.

It finished printing right before the announcements, after all, these things are put together in advance so they can be sent out early to the subscribers. If anything, it should be in next months. Also One Piece gets at least one cover a year, so it the catch up were to happen, it'll be either when its taken out, or put back in. Maybe both if were lucky.
-
I don't think they are taking it out - they said the current chapters are starting in the magazine THIS fall. With Alabasta taking at least 2 more issues, that means there are only 3 left for 2009…they won't take it out at all. It'll just go right from Alabasta one month to current chapters the next if I'm looking at this correctly...next month is the defeat of Crocodile, the announcement of the jump ahead in both the anime and the manga, and 4 - 5 chapters of One Piece (5 if I guess right)....so that would make it the perfect month to put Luffy on the cover. I think the December issue will have Yusuke on the cover as it's YuYu's final issue. So basically the rest of the year: August - Luffy, September - Naruto, October - Luffy, November - Ichigo, December - Yusuke. Just my prediction on the covers.
-
Ah. Forgot about how close YuYu is to finishing. It's been a while since we had any other series on the cover, excluding Ultimo and Gintama.
-
this is going to be intresting for those that only read the english manga and dont read the original series..
:ninja:and i hope with the skip we get the last 2 colorwalks done..
-
I seem to remember a bit in the cactus island (loguetown?) where vivi gets on Karoo and says something like: "Show them your power which surpasses that of a panther!"
Shouldn't that be a cheetah?

There going to have pages dedicated for people catching up.

is shaman king vol 22 out yet?
-
So you saying, unlike Naruto, One Piece Won't take a break.
Well with naruto it was a jump that was supposed to take place, the jump in one piecce is not supposed to happen.
Am I the only one that thinks they should've jumped to enies lobby? Luffy gained 2 nakama in the time skip. I know it's kind of ungreatfull to say, but I don't like this time skip. Speeding things up would be my preference, if I wanted a summary I'd go to the one piece wiki. the reason I buy the volumes is to collect them, I don't want like 30 volumes gone.
-
No, Enies Lobby / Waters Seven is 130 chapters, plus another 50 chapters for Thriller Bark, 10 for Amazon Lily, and 20 or so for Shabondy….how is putting us over 200 chapters further away any better? Faster pace in the magazine? We're 340 chapters behind.....2 more chapters per month will hardly make a dent in that huge gap. If you want to read the actual manga, read it online and buy the volumes when Viz releaes them. You know they're not going to skip those 33 - 34 volumes entirely right? I mean they will release them at some point.

WTF are you talking about? I know the lengths of each arc. I'm saying if they have to do a time skip why not skip to EL where very little that effects the overall plot has been taken out.
We're 340 chapters behind…..2 more chapters per month will hardly make a dent in that huge gap.
once again, WTF are you talking about? When did I ever mention that they should go 2 chapters at a time?

Whoa!!! I can read them online? thanks I didn't realize that :getlost:. And they haven't said anywhere that they would be releasing the other chapters, so no, I don't know they're going to release the other chapters. and if they do, that still leaves a huge gap in my collection until they finish printing all 33 volumes.
-
Putting us waaay back at Water Seven / Enies Lobby means more years of waiting =/ So what's the big deal about reading it online then? By 2 more chapters a month, I mean - SJ currently runs about 3 chapters of OP a month…speading it up to 5 will hardly make a dent. That's not good long-term. We need the volumes released fast like Naruto. Stop whinning. I buy the volumes too...it's not like they're going to make Impel Down volume 25 and skip everything between Alabasta and Impel Down....that doesn't evne make sense for Viz =/
-
The still only have Vol. 22 listed for October. If they jump ahead this fall and continue to publish one volume every four months then this is just a fruitless effort on their part to try and deter scanlations. If this really was put upon them by their parent company then their dicking around with this series has really bit them on the ass.
-
Well I agree w/ that…if they do just run current chapters w/out releasing all the volumes it is a terrible attempt at eliminating scans. But I'll read scans online even if we're only 15 chapters behind...why wait? Besides, I have a OP group with all the manga loaded and 1,500 members...can't very well abandon that. One Piece Manga v2 =D As for vol. 22...that listing was put up before they did all this. I mean, it may be that it changes very soon. At least that's what I keep hoping. If they don't put out all the other volumes, this is lame, but at least better than putting us in Skypiea or Enies Lobby...at least current > 200+ chapters behind....
-
If they are going to do an accelerated release, which they better damn well, considering the skip, the most likely options are either three/four volumes a month starting in 2010, or a massive volume blitz starting this winter, a la Naruto. I hope they go the former route rather than the latter, as that would break my wallet seeing as they've raised the pricing.
If we don't get anything in the way of information or nothing by then, then we riot. Think about it, crisp volume quality! No more mucking about with grainy online scans and dubious translations. It would be quite nice.
-
Oh, I love having the volumes, so I will definitely be buying them. The HQ scans aren't bad and I do love seeing Zoro instead of Zolo and the lack of psuedo-swears like "Blast you" that we get in the online scans…..but overall, I would rather have the volumes....I'd really rather hav ethe volumes w/ the name Zoro instead of Zolo....it's not enough to deter me from buying them, just enough to annoy me constantly.

so the books are more than 8.50 now?
(8.50 is what ive been paying w/tax ) -
Dude, Vongola, I'm sorry, my friends were making fun of one piee and I was getting annoyed so I acted like a dick. Anyway, I'm mostly concerned because my brother reads one piece too but doesn't like the online reading (and I know people at achool do that to, just read when it comes out) so for them they'll be like "WTF? Who the heck are these brook and franky guys". Where as, if they started at Enies Lobby they'd think "Hmm, well those arcs don't sound that important, nobody even joined"
-
so the books are more than 8.50 now?
(8.50 is what ive been paying w/tax )I think Calamari reported a few pages back that the volumes were being listed as $9.99 instead of their old price, which I think is like $7.99 where I am.
The economy man…
-
NP ctarlong…sorry if I came across as rude as well. Yeah the manga's $7.95 right now, but they're all going up to $9.99....but I get them currently for $6.40 plus tax....so I should get them for $8.00 plus tax after the price increase. B&N gives 20% if anyone has a relative who works in education...they have to be there w/ you though. Even with a membership card at B&N you get a 10% discount on everything...it's a 1 time $25 fee.
-
With the number of coupons I get from Borders, I'll probably use one for buying volumes. I don't think my price ($7.95) has gone up, but then I haven't been to Borders since Volume 20 …
-
I don't know how it'll effect the old volumes that still say 7.95 but apparently the jump in price will occur in October for the new volumes coming out.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-05-26/some-viz-dark-horse-manga-titles-increase-in-price
-
Well if the prices jump, that'll be bad, I guess I have to give my sister the money to get them for me, since she gets a 33% discount at borders. Although, I think she'll get annoyed at me for it. Still, we're pretty much in the dark, and I believe that they'll go the Naruto road, but maybe it won't be that bad.
-
That's disappointing, especially if that applies to One Piece as well.
-
Eh, I work at Barnes & Noble and get a discount, the raised price is nothing to me. Besides it's like what, a dollar?
-
The Jumpland website has been given a complete makeover. It still offers free manga chapters you can only read on your computer using their browser but it looks like they're not only offering chapters of new series but older ones as well. The only older title at the moment is Dragon Ball but it looks like One Piece will be available next.
-
Wow, the cover for this week looks hilariously awful.

Wow, the cover for this week looks hilariously awful.
http://shonenjump.com/e/images/hyou1.jpgThat was last week Jump issue when they announced naruto's anniversary. Funny how it isn't as extravagant than that of the One Piece covers for Jump Weekly.
-
Because Kishimoto doesn't rush his artwork these days.
But yes, compared to how much Oda goes all out for the cover, that's a terrible cover.

http://shonenjump.com/e/images/hyou1.jpgThat cover pretty much epitomizes how horrible Naruto has gotten in the past 10 years.

The Simon and Schuster website has a listing for Vol. 23 for December. So maybe they're just going try a bi-monthly release instead of dumping a ton of volumes at once.
-
every 2 months is good for now.
6 volumes a year(if im calculating correctly)=vol.35 by dec.2010 and 47 by 2011.maybe not good then:getlost:
Well a bi-monthly release is an improvement, we just got to wait for Viz to announce when the catch up will start.
Is vol 21 still due out on the 2nd? Amazon.co.uk has shipped every other manga released on the same day but One Piece. SimonSays still says the 2nd.
-
A bimonthly release is getting there, though I hope that they announce another volume or two for the same month in the near future…
-
In my honest opinion, bi-monthly sucks…I think they absolutely need to release a large number of volumes. We've waited far too long for that already...we're past the point where bi-monthly will catch us up in any reasonable amount of time.
Especially since volume 22 is already complete and only 8 chapters remain of volume 23 in SJ...I really think waiting until October and December to release them is kind of ridiculous already...there's only about a month wait for the Bleach and Naruto chapters to go from the magazine to volumes....One Piece is up to about 6 months....it annoys me that they treat One Piece like some second rate series.
-
Other, I'm sure, less selling titles get bi-monthly. It's good enough as it is.
-
Also, I'm not sure where you get the calculuations that 6 volumes a year means we'll have 35 by 2010 and 47 by 2011….
By December 2010 we will have volume 29. By December 2011 we will have volume 35. By December 2012 we will have volume 41. By December 2013 we will have volume 47. By December 2014 we will have volume 53. That's with 6 volumes a year. =/
The time for bi-monthly release has passed...with 33 volumes unreleased we really need more than that now. Why would they even bother running current chapters then? Make us wait 5 years to get the chapters currently in the magazine in volume format?
They manage to release 40 - 50 volumes of One Piece in Italian, German, Spanish, etc....I can't believe we haven't gotten past volume 20 yet in English.
-
Bi-Monthly is going to suck but not suck as bad as 1 volume whenever they want to release one. If you ask me One Piece should get the same treatment as Naruto. They should anounce they are going to speed it up. Take it out of the magazine and then release a shit load of Volumes over a 3 month period.
-
I think it's too soon to say. I'll wait to hear the official speed-up plan from VIZ and when I actually see a solicitation for Vol. 22.
-
Hell, I'd be satisfied with a one per month release (even though it should get the Naruto treatment with 2-3 a month). Viz is losing its head. :silly:
-
Well, we only know what happens through December. Next year we might get one of those "three volumes a month for three month" deals like Naruto got or perhaps a larger number of volumes and/or months.
-
I could see Viz playing catch-up by sinmply posting "One Piece" chapters online.
-
I could see Viz playing catch-up by sinmply posting "One Piece" chapters online.
Either could work, but isn't there a strong possibility it would boil down to which would make more money? Would the sales of volumes outweigh online ad views, or the other way around?
You know, with all the crap going on with the anime, it's nice to see that it seems like the Viz translation of the manga is picking up speed in the volumes, too.

Thing is unless it's a huge seller like "Naruto", putting so many volumes of a manga so quickly in this economy might be too costly.
-
I think it's gaining steam - the fact that Funi was able to go after the simulcast suggests that much, as well as the acceleration of the manga in Shonen Jump.
-
Well this is odd. Now I can see why Viz would delete that post on their blog about the Simulcast but that listing for Vol. 23 is completely gone. I don't want to jump to conclusions so soon but maybe Viz is backing way from the whole jumping ahead in the magazine. I guess it would suit them being the pricks they are with this series.
Vol. 21 should already be out in stores now so someone can check if they really do plan on holding off Vol. 22 for another four months.
-
Hopefully they are moving the release date of vol 23 forward. I don't see why they would pull out of the catch up, it makes sense to do it since we're so far behind.
