Hey, we had some minor translational problems, but since we couldn't figure them out, we wasted time making fx… thus a slightly slower release than normal... Check out the cool fx, and feel free to rant about your love or hatred for them. After hearing sockpain's complaint's... I mean constructive criticism, nothing will reach my ears anyways, lol. Have fun with the ep. Oh, and typhoon's image's are back, so Sockpain's great artistry has temporarily been cut off...

YES! Thanks for the episode, I've been waiting to see this!

So the torrent is just the raw right? There aren't subs on it? Like a script or something.
I'm new to SoftSubs….

@Chibi:
So the torrent is just the raw right? There aren't subs on it? Like a script or something.
-
It's not a raw… wow... do all these one piece fans ONLY watch one piece? I mean, mkv is a much more common hd anime container than mp4...
-
wait so you guys are doing fx again? awesome :)
-
all right! thanks again folks! Great job!
-
Thanks guys your the best Wohooo keep up the great work :D
-

.mkv is nice, it looks so damn clean. I can understand why people love .mp4 though (ps3 compatibility, etc.)

thank yibis but….
yibis make FX in 384 then yibis group don't make FX from 385
now anime Carzy make fx
and yibis make yibis make fx from 389
i want ask yisbi group : " if CZAF stop make fx or stop make op"
yibis still make fx in op ?
i don't hope yibis make fx 1 or 2 ep then yibis stop
sr if it make yibis hate -
Just watching the Ep, about halfway through.
Had to go out and change "Hou" to "Cannon".
Great so far other than that. What's the deal with that? -

Great so far other than that. What's the deal with that?Short answer: We got a new guy to do attack-effects, so the attacks were left in japanese with notes. (In case Skull Kid reads this… YOU HAPPY NOW?!)
Long answer: Eh, there's not really anything else to add… I'm not too happy about this myself, but I'm pretty sure I'm the only member of the team who wants the attacks to be translated, and I suppose as long as it's only attacks, I can accept it. ("Haki" will definitely be translated, though, in case you were worried about that.)thank yibis but….

sr if it make yibis hate…If I understood that right, you're wondering why we first used effects, then dropped them, then re-inserted them again? In short, it's because the guy who did the effects for the first few episodes left the team, so we haven't had anyone to make them for the last few episodes.

How clean the video is depends on the codec and the encoding settings. It doesn't depend on whether .mp4 or .mkv is used as the container (unless you are using a player that plays one of those containers better than the other).
By the way, if yibis ever did want to release in both .mkv and .mp4, if you encode to raw .264 format rather than encoding directly to the container, you could mux that into both .mkv and .mp4, and only one encoding would be needed (I don't think you should go to the trouble of releasing another version - just saying if you ever wanted to without having to do an extra encoding). Or, if you just released one, fans should be able to demux it and put it into the other container (I think), which is much quicker and easier than reencoding. Unfortunately I had to send my PC back to the US to get repaired, otherwise I would do some testing on this.

("Haki" will definitely be translated, though, in case you were worried about that.)Well, Effects don't really work for the Softsub Script.
You have Effects in an external Script file, and most computers will suffer video slow-down when the effects come up.
Why don't you guys translate the Attacks out for the Script release, and Leave them untranslated for the other releases?
Then, people like Skull kid who NEED the Untranslated attacks can download their version, people like me who prefer an actual translation can download the script file, and essentially everyone wins?
If you guys don't wana go through the extra work of changing things (which isn't much, it literally took me less than a minute to do) then I'll do it every week. and since I'm doing next to nothing, you don't have to credit me or anything.I mean, the way I see it now, no matter what you're gonna piss SOMEONE off…
1: Leave things as-is: People like Skull Kid are pissed
2: Start doing the Untranslated Thing: People like me are pissed (tho, I'm not really Pissed since I can just edit the script myself... Talking about others who think like me)
3: Also doing the untranslated thing, you piss of the people who don't care which, but are getting tired of it changing every couple of episodes. It takes all of 2 seconds to edit a script file, and that pretty much makes everyone happy, so why not?
-
i hope yibis group make fx in one piece with "gomu gomu no"
i love one piece and love fx of one piece -
dont like fx,
love plain subs -
dont like fx,
love plain subsSo do I. You can still get the plain subs by downloading the RAW and the script-file, though that one doesn't have the opening-theme lyrics for some reason.
-
"We Are!" has been around long enough that everyone should know the lyrics and the translation for it by now XD
But VA, did you read my suggestion? Yes? No? Some kind of feedback would be appreciated XD
-

jeah but you can release the script when you've done the translation,
than do the fx and the other fancy stuff -
But VA, did you read my suggestion? Yes? No? Some kind of feedback would be appreciated XD
Well, it looks like a good idea to me, but the problem is, I don't think I'm the one who decides that…
-
I really don't see how attack fx make much of a difference in the episode itself… they may distract the viewer for a few sec, but 389 episodes is enough to get rid of that habit :)
this doesn't mean you'll leave wapanese stuff right? -

@Vegard:
("Haki" will definitely be translated, though, in case you were worried about that.)
What is "Haki" translated? I was under the impression that it was along the same vein of Ki (like in DBZ) which is definitely left untranslated.
-
What is "Haki" translated? I was under the impression that it was along the same vein of Ki (like in DBZ) which is definitely left untranslated.
That's EXACTLY where all the problems stem from. Scanlators have been leaving "Haki" untranslated which is pretty much making the entire situation lose the intended meaning, and just presenting it as though it were some random new Attack, making it LOOK like it's Ki from DBZ.
It means Ambition. The drive to achieve one's goals, plain and simple.
to Leave it untranslated pretty much gives off a different feel and meaning.
Example:
Untranslated: "That Boy… He can do Haoshoku Haki!!" - Makes it out to be a random attack that has no ulterior meaning
What they're actually saying: "That Boy... He has the ambition of a King!!" - Pretty self explanatory, Luffy has the same drive to complete his goals that a King would have. Which makes perfect sense since he wants to be the Pirate KingBasically what's happening is, it's literally the force of ones own will and drive to achieve their goals that they can use to make their attacks and weapons more powerful, intimidate weaker-willed opponents, and predict the moves of weaker-willed opponents. Think that sounds funny? Remember this is a Manga where One character has a move where he lights his leg on fire, and the official reason his Skin and Pants don't burn is because the "Fire in his heart burns hotter than the fire on his leg". And a character can not only hold a sword in his mouth and use it to Very effectively fight with, but he speaks perfectly with no distortion to his words, the official Explanation: "IT'S HIS HEART TALKING!!". In a Manga where those things are possible, anything is.
Besides, One Piece doesn't follow ANY of the other conventions that Shounen manga do, at least not in the same way they do. so if Oda literally decided to include "Ki", not only would he be more original about it, but he would have told us about it a LOT sooner. -

sites down for a bit… will get to it at some point... redirecting to the general fansubs thread in the meanwhile... if this bothers the admins, please let me know, and I'll point it to some other random destination. Think the tracker is down too, but ddls are available on the net somewhere or the other...

thx for the torrent, and for the other torrents

Which makes perfect sense since he wants to be the Pirate KingI havn't really followed this issue at all, so maybe this is a moot point, but if it was simply a king's ambition as you say, wouldn't that imply that characters such as Nefertari Cobra, would have similar abilities (he is the king of a relatively large kingdom after all…)? But nothing like that was ever suggested. Also isnt ki (or chakra) akin to "energy" drawn from within? couldn't haki be "energy" drawn from one's powerful ambition?

what happened to the site D:
-
Oh for god's sake… Why must so many people have a fetish for leaving this crap untranslated...?!
Devils advocate answer; would you want to translate the names of swords as well? Peoples names? Where do you draw the line?
Personally, I like to at least see one translator note for these things so I know the japanese(and translation) for the attacks after the first time, instead of having to wait 20 episodes to hear it enough times to memorize it the hard way. That said, I don't actually care either way.
-
Obviously Character and weapon names wouldn't be, that's just silly.
The Idea is to have the translation look as professional as possible.
The problem with Translation notes and attack Special Effects and the reason Professional DVDs don't do them is they distract the eye from what the eye should be on.
Your Eye shouldn't be on Flashy Moving text that say "GOMU GOMU NO… JET BAZOOKA!!" It should be on Luffy pounding the everliving hell out of Blueno!! (just picked a fight at random as an example) -
I completely appreciate have great respect for the crazy fast and reliable speed subbing that Yibis has been doing, and their quality for how fast they're working is pretty respectable. I'm just saying that if you're really super concerned about looking really professional and awesome, unless you're building a portfolio for a pro translation/production job, it might be kind of a good idea to be fairly in sync with the first 350 episodes so people don't feel the need to replace all of your work with KF or VP's batches down the road and seed those instead. If you got to blame someone, blame whoever made the call at KF back then to leave stuff untranslated. If you're archiving the series to rewatch it, you're probably going to want most of the translations to sync up at least reasonably closely.
That said, I'm sure Yibis's people know that already. It's one of the big reasons I bet a lot of people get sick of speedsubbing this series…you either give all your time delivering super high quality stuff that people will archive and still try to get it out in a day or two, or just accomodate the kids that don't care much about the quality and have no interest in archiving, just expect to not see them seeded anymore in a year or so. You kind of really got to love this show to stick with either.
-
well, I definitely see where you're going with that and you're the first person to present a logical reason why leaving things untranslated would be good Zullzero, but to be honest, anyone who's used to K-F's method will only be considering anything they DL a "Speedsub" and will be replacing theirs with K-F no matter what. in fact, I replace my old fansubs with K-F as they release, and will be doing so until I get to the point where people started doing softsubs, simply on the principle that since Everyone Before the softsubbers followed K-F's footsteps, Might as well go with the one that uses good DVD video and the like.
Really, Attacks untranslated is something I don't like but at least I understand it and am ok with it most often. I wouldn't even be arguing that point if it weren't for the fact that VA is in the group and shares my view, so I wana be a voice to sort of back up that point. But the thing that really gets to me is when people go overboard and leave everyday words in Conversation untranslated simply on the principle that they like that Particular Japanese word. Why does Luffy have to call old People "Ossan"? why can't he say "Old Guy" or "Gramps"? Why does Chimney have to call Luffy "Pirate Nii-san" instead of Saying "That Pirate Guy"? Or why can't the Franky Family call Franky "Big Bro"? Why does it HAVE to be "Aniki"? I mean, the group is called the Franky Family, in fact, K-F translates it as "Franky Brothers"! Under both circumstances, it would make sense and not seem weird for them to call him "Bro" or "Big Bro", so why not? Why does Luffy have to say "Yosh!" instead of something like "Ok!" "Yeah!" or "Great!" depending on the context? and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WHY DOES THE FANBASE THINK NAKAMA IS THE GOD OF JAPANESE WORDS?! Nakama is the single greatest problem with One Piece Fansubs, hands down.
And Another thing that gets to me is when People will take something the character flat out says in English and put it in with the Japanese accent. I mean seriously, Zoro is Saying "Pound" in English! You don't have to put "Pondo", leave the rest in Japanese if you must but at LEAST put the things he actually SAYS IN ENGLISH, IN ENGLISH!!
Honestly though, now that we're in the days where fansubbers can release small file size Script subs where it takes all of 5 seconds to go through and change the Attacks over, I don't know why nobody's thought of just doing a dual release.
Make the Hardsubs/Single-file encodes whatever way you want, but Offer the Script file in both formats.
it pleases everyone and only equates to about 2 minutes of extra work. -
i agree with english attack names, after all they technically don't need subtitles at all (they are attacks after all not dialog) the only reason u may wanna put subtitles there is to clarify what exactly the character is doing/about to do. Leaving the attack subbed but untranslated is just redundant because u can hear what they are saying anyway.
-
On paper I'd probably agree that attack names aught to be translated as well. But just as names and weapons are defined by their Japanese names, you could say the exact same thing for some attacks.
One word, three syllables. Kamehameha.
-
too bad kamehameha doesnt mean anything in japanese aka there is nothing to translate it to… if anything its the name of a hawaiian king.
-
Actually, Kamehameha means roughly "Turtle Destruction Wave" XD
But Kamehameha is definitely a special circumstance, they happen, Just look at Zoro's Oni Giri. Literally EVERY official English translation left it untranslated, including 4kids. -
This post is deleted!
-
Rin, since you do it right anyways, we should just have you release the script once its ready. What do you think? I can send you our script after we put out the encodes each week, and you can just put up the proper version to avoid confusion. Let me know if you're down.
-
so…
Step 1: you guys make untranslated Script, do an Encode of that.
Step 2: You send me the Script file
Step 3: I edit it to translate Everything outright.
Step 4: I send it back to you to put on the website
Step 5: ???
Step 6: ProfitThat pretty much it?
If so, sounds good -
cut me in on this profit you speak of, lol…
yeah, that's basically it, or i can give u access to add it to the website yourself, thus saving most of the middle man work. -
Either way works, that sounds awesome
