Wow, it actually looks like a bunch of normal people in costumes. Justice.
Who Watches The Watchmen?
-
-
I've read Watchmen, but I think I read it way too late. I've just read so many stories that were inspired by this that by the time I got to Watchmen, the feeling and tone were way too familar.
Nevertheless, I have high respect for the series for how it changed comics and will most likely see the movie.
@taboo:When does this come out?

All of them Rorschach pictures are fucking awesome. I can't wait for this movie to come out.

More Pics
!
-
OK a few things-
1- Shouldn't Nite Owl be fat? I heard he was based off Blue Beetle and NOT Batman
2- I dunno…I don't like the actor portraying Ozy...he looks TOO young.
3- WATCHMEN IS NOT A SUPERHERO MOVIE! -
Profuse swearing to follow you've been warned:
I really despise all of the slo-mo bullshit that plagues this trailer. If there's one movie that I don't want to see all those ridiculous clichés in it's "Watchmen". "Watchmen" should be filmed as a normal thriller/drama. Not treated as a super hero movie. I'm very fucking worried for this movie. Zack Snyder's stupid slo-mo horse shit ruined what was otherwise an extremely faithful adaption of "300" for me. And from the looks of this trailer he's gonna ruin "Watchmen" as well. I really hate to be so negative about it because it is something that I wish desperately to be excited for. What I hope is that I'll go see it and all of my worries will melt away and will have been for naught. But, in all my years of existence that has never happened to me.
I wish that they would have made a mini series out of "Watchmen" instead. There is just so much going on in it that a two hour movie can't possibly cover all of it cohesively. That is/was just wishful thinking.
-
Looks amazing. The trailer actually made me read the Graphic Novel. The music fits the tone of the story perfectly.
I hate Ozymandias' actor. Too young doesnt look right. costume is off.
The costumes of the 80's people look to fake. but W.e
The movie is supposed to be 3 hours w/ a 4.5 hour directors cut.
The Black Freighter story will be releases in an Anime form on an extra DVD release that will come 5 days after the movie
As long as they dont change the story it should be good.
EDIT: ugh i'll edit the grammar in the morning, lol.
-
Wait B. Freighter will animu? Where'd you read that?
-
Saw the trailer when I went to go and see batman: Dark Knight yesterday and nearly crapped in my pants.
-
I saw the Trailer as well at The Dark Knight, and it looked like a generic Super Hero movie, which I know is ruining it and may have some of you in an uproar by now.
I really liked the music in the trailer, though.
I hadn't even heard of Watchmen 'til the trailer, so I looked it up on Wikipedia and I noticed that smiley with a blood splatter on it, and I've seen it somewhere before… -
Altho Watchmen may use Superheroes as a basis, it is more of a psychology, social psychology, crime and mystery series.
I want blue dicks when I see the R-rated DVD version. -
Did they show him having a blue dick in the comics? 'cause I remember the Silver Surfer had… nothing. But then again he was an alien...
Not that I'm gay or anything. Just plain curiousity.
...ok, my defense on not being gay makes me look like I'm actually gay.
I'll shut up now...
-
Yes you could his 'thing' in the comics. It's disturbing at first but you get over it eventually.
-
The Comic went for absolute realism.
There's nudity everywhere and a boob isn't obscured by a vase or something.
The "thing" isn't disturbing. If some guy is supposed to be naked and glowing blue, I'd rather it be there then not.
The Trailer made me Download the comic, and it was one of the most thought provoking things I've read.
Did you know a live body and a dead body have the same number of particles?
-
Rorschach's voice sounds amazing.
-
After reading a little bit of it yesterday, I really want to give this a full read.

Comedian looks uber sexy. -
I had only seen this comic book while looking for V for Vendetta (another great work of Alan Moore) and knew the comic by the smiley face with the blood splatter, not bu the title.
I walked into batman, and saw the trailer, thinking…. hmm... looks promising, and great song! And at the end, I see the smiley face and I'm thinking... Holy shit... So the next thing I did is get my paycheck and go get it at borders. I was totally blown away.(I had read dragonball when I was alot younger, so I was used to guys walking around naked in comic books)
-
I didn't give two shyts about this film. That is to say, I didn't NOT care about it, I simply had no level of excitement or anything to gauge it on not knowing anything about the graphic novel.
But that trailer changed everything.

Comedian looks uber sexy.Tru dat. Jeffrey Dean Morgan was a smokin' great choice.
The lawsuit is silly. Unless Fox truly is the devil, their intent isn't actually to have Watchmen shelved. But considering they haven't had any hits in a while and won't until Wolverine comes out, they're itching for some money. They see that Watchmen is building up hype, and is expected to be one of the big movies of 2009 and say "hey, legally we still have some ties to this thing. We didn't care about before, but now that it's getting buzz let's make a fuss!"
They probably want some portion of the revenue. WB has too much invested to not release this sucker, so they'll fight to get it released so they'll probably agree if it comes down to that. Of course there's also the possibility that whoever decides the case will call Fox out for their d-bag-ness and let WB release the movie without giving Fox a dime.
As far as the movie itself, personally I'm excited. I know it may look like a typical Hollywood Superhero flick, but I have a feeling that this'll be faithful and the final product will be succesful. I don't mind Snyder's slomo, and I actually loved the way he directed 300 (the scenes where Leonidas is running through enemies in slomo, the camera zooming in and out on the same exact shot, it's spectacular!)
And when it comes to blue penis, in the trailers there's none but that could possibly be for marketing purposes (they edited the rock hard bright pink nipples off the oracle in the 300 trailers, for example) But in the comic-con posters you can see his ass crack quite clearly and I recall during G4's Comic-con coverage Blair Butler was interviewing the cast and one of the cast members mentioned that there is full frontal Manhattan a plenty. So there's hope!
-
Gave the comic a read after watching the trailer on Scream awards. Looks very promising.
-
I finished reading the graphic novel about a month ago, and the ending was truly something different…
Great novel, and I now know what I'm going to do on the night of March 6th. -
@Mr.:
I now know what I'm going to do on the night of March 6th.
And what will that be?
[end sarcasm]
ps: in the new trailer (found here:
) at 20 seconds it looks like Manhattan has a visible blue penis.EDIT: Heres an interview with Mr. Snyder
http://www.darkhorizons.com/news08/081107k.php
He says they had to defocus Manhattans genitals for the trailer….so they are actually there.
-
Okay, the ending has been changed.
I don't know if Snyder really means it or he's the best troll in history, but after all that "Bible" bullshit…
Call me a selfish prick, but I'm joining the masses of comic book fans who won't go see the film. -
Yes the penis is in the movie, it's been confirmed like a bazillion times.
Now moving to the ending being changed, here's how I feel about it
! The giant squid monster thing is cool and all, but unless it was done properly it could've just looked corny and stupid.
! The way I see it, so long as
! Ozymandias does SOMETHING catastrophic that brings people together to fight for a common cause, which the giant squid thing represented, then it'll all be fine.
! The squid thing is awesome but not completely necessary for the plot to have the same effect.I'm still looking forward to this movie ALOT, and while I'm giving Snyder some leeway I really do think he'll do as best a job he can at making this movie the best it can be.
-
Umm, looking stupid and corny…that's the point. But it's still something inhuman, something we could never think of. The big problem is this guy boasting about how he is doing it for the fans and how faithful will it be, or how he cannot understand why Alan Moore is so hostile against his adaptions.
Guess what, he just showed us WHY. There is always some moron saying he will do it justice but in the end..
Gosh, this is V for Vendetta all over again.
-
Blah, Alan Moore and those comic book fans are nerds. I'm definitely going to see the movie.
-
Yup, I'm a nerd. I wouldn't be angry about this if I was just a casual moviegoer. After all, I was very excited for this movie, because Mr. Snyder promoted it as a "faithful adaptation". And this is just a slap to the face when you read it so many times.
And all those details and plotlines are worthless if you change the ending, because that's where the whole GN is going.
-
Let's face it, Snyder has to deal with producers and more importantly he needs to get asses in the seats, asses that belong to non-comic fans. The squid thing would very likely throw off alot of viewers who weren't familiar with the comic, and that's not Snyder's fault so much as it is the fault of movie-adaptations in general.
And let's not forget that Snyder didn't want to do the movie, but the WB basically coerced him into it. The way I see it, considering he didn't wanna even try to adapt this sucker into a movie to begin with because he loves it so much, at least he does care enough to tell people before hand that there's a big change in the climax. And like I said, the squid itself isn't as important as what it represents, so yes sadly we get a cool part of the book cut but that's to be expected with a nearly 3 hour running time, and so long as the same meaning is given then I personally take no issue with a squid-less movie. It's just movie-making, he's got to appeal to as big an audience as he can.
Anyone who expects a completely uncut 100% faithful movie adaptation of ANYthing is expecting too much. Hell even Sin City had its fair share of alterations for the sake of it being a wide release movie.
-
^Good points, but personally if they hinted about the squid, in the form of
! Ozy's organization working in bio-engineering or the like, then it might work
Still the replacement would have to also give a psychological impact to make up for the lack of the creature.Blah, Alan Moore and those comic book fans are nerds. I'm definitely going to see the movie.
lol, actually Alan has every right to not be pleased with his work being turned into movies. Compare the original book to their movie ver., V for Vendetta was close but skipped and left out various elements, the ending itself was made into a 'happy conclusion' as opposed to the book's ending which was ambiguous.
There's an episode of Simpsons which cameos Moore wherein he lashes out on how he feels about adaptations of his books.…and really though, this movie AT LEAST is aiming to be close to the source material as opposed to another comic book movie adaption that everyone's looking forward to.
-
There are two simple problems - if it is not so faithful, then he should shut up.
! What is the problem with a goddamn squid? That was the point, it's an OUTER force, if it were Manhattan it would be still U.S. fault. Russians don't see him as a person, they see him as a weapon. Americanweapon. American weapon threatening them. That has world peace written all over it.
The squid is supposed to shock the reader. It's stupid, yes, but the only way, how to stop it. Where's the problem with shocking the first time viewer?
And this ties into the novel too. The Island? Gone? Missing artist? Gone. Haha, Bubastis? Yeah, it's in there but now it has no point whatsoever. And the most important thing - THE COMEDIAN GOING CRAZY from Ozy's plan. A big blue explosion killing people is surely gonna make a rapist and killer break down. The graphic novel is still selling, after twenty years from it's release. It has numerous awards nad is considered one of the greatest storie told in it's form. With this acclaim, where does Snyder see it's faults, especially in the ending. Is it the budget? Well then maybe he should have made it like a normal movie and scrap that stupid 300 style.
As for Alan Moore. You wouldn't be realy excited, if one of your works were made into a shitty movie and then you were accused of being a copy of some godawful moviescript. And yes, you, not the moviemakers, YOU.
-
I click on the thread after a few months away from it and this is the first thing I read:
Yes the penis is in the movie, it's been confirmed like a bazillion times.
Thank you. That was the perfect end to a perfect Saturday.
-
@The:
I wouldn't be angry about this if I was just a casual moviegoer.
That and I have never read The Watchmen.
But, truth to be told, I usually haven't really cared that much about how faithful adaptations are. So I don't belong to the crowded camp people who always repeats the quote "the book is better" after seeing a movie adaptation. It's another man's vision of somebody else's story in another medium. Not just copy pasting work. That's how I take it.

There are some good book to movie adaptations, and even adaptations that are better than the original source material, such as Last of the Mohicans and Prince Caspian (to name a few).
…but on the other side of the spectrum there are adaptations that with some changes in it, give an incorrect idea of what the original source is.
Personally I feel this movie could succeed as an adaption of the original source. -
I just visited the site and they have a new trailer up. What impressed me most was Rorschach's voice. Very well done.
-
Just saw the new trailer. Loving the way they made Nite Owl 2 fat in his regular gear. He looks perfect. And also Dr.Manhatten in the suit is perfect to. LEAVE ME ALONE!!!
-
I recently finished reading Watchmen the graphic novel and, IMO, it's nothing short of a masterpiece. And to think that this all started on that fateful day when I went to see Dark Knight in theaters and saw the trailer for Watchmen, a story I had never even heard of, and now I eagerly await the release of the movie. That's great marketing at work my friends.
-
Hope you won't feel repulsed by the changes they are making to the movie. So long as the main concept isn't messed with it could be good.
-

Oh yeah, I've seen the gist of it. Of course they sure do have big shoes to fill. The main thing I'm concerned about is the actual actors and costumes (Ozymandias in particular). But, provided it doesn't get abysmal reviews (like Spirit, such a shame), I will see it in theaters
-

But the fact that Snyder claims that the movie is true to the source material while in my opinion is in fact dumbing for the audience it down is frustrating…but I'll probably go see it anyways and geek out like the rest.
-
I have a copy of Watchmen on my shelf now.
But about that^. This is as true to source material as movies get. Heck most movies aren't even closely this faitful. Like Fight Club is generally regararded as a movie which is very true to the source material. But even that movie is still distinct from the original novel (and I like the movie better, by the way).
This movie, on the otherhand, seems to be ripping off scenes straight from the comic itself. Panel by panel. Even if they will slim it down to shorter lenght and change some stuff around, Watchmen has to be one of the most faithful adaptation I have ever seen. This isn't Starship Troopers movie.

Awesome behind the scenes with director Snyder.

I liked that little behind the scenes look. It looks like a great movie outline for anyone who hasn't read the book.

I just had to post this. Watchmen in 5 panels.
