I'm just going to name the few games that had nothing to do with the core of Final Fantasy or was not a sucky remake….that make you seem like poopie
Kingdom Hearts 2 is a remake. A remake of a pretty so-so action rpg imho.
Seriously, I Disney game that recreated the movies but completely ignored the musical numbers aside from ONE world.
Final Fantasy Tactics A2 IS both a remake and a spinoff. Even in 6th grade, I found Cloud's attitude really immature and grating while playing the game. And just the whole "tone" with superfluous motorcycle scenes and big explosions felt like style over substance to me. Some people dig that, but I just didn't.
I personally, didnt like the idea of making my rpgs more cinematic and flashy action-movieish or whatever. And then when so many rpgs started copying that formula, is when rpg's quality seem to take a noise dive. It felt like they were spending too much time matching FFVII's graphics engine and when you spend tons of money to make a game look gorgeous, you have to play it reeeeeallly safe with the story and concepts and style because you dont want to risk it tanking.
But yeah, that's all I have to say about that.
DQ8 is an enix property. But also a sequel.
I'm not sure about ODin Sphere, but I'm pretty positive Grandia isnt a Square thing.
And the point isnt that Square hasn't made a decent game, it's that if they make ANYTHING that makes money regardless of quality, the crank a bajillion spinoffs and remakes. There was a time when they did things like Chrono Trigger, and Xenogears, or even Mario RPG and never touched the series again. Now they're actually reaching way back into those series and creating sequels to really old stuff. It's like they don't even try originality anymore.
I'm half-expecting to see THE BOUNCER 2 sometime, soon.
Ofcourse, what I like is my opinion. If a lot of people like it, more power to you but I defintely didnt enjoy FFVII because it felt like a technological step forward and a huge leap backwards with writing and character design. It really comes down to what's more important to you or the level of attention you pay to those things.
@Strawberri…I rly dug the character redesigns for the FF4 cast, so I guess that means I agree Cecil is hot?
