^Well considering how you got the other 3 Equipment, finding that one in that location is just…odd :P
I beat the game, final boss was boring, but my Golem whooped some ass! Gonna go through the bonus dungeon now.
Im still playing the game and i must say what keeps me going is the storyline.
Oh and I managed to kill 2 Metal King Slimes in a row!
And where do we find those metal king slimes ? ^^;;…
The last T n T was a pain in the ass that's for sure...
Metal King Slimes can be found in the area in the final dungeon with
! all the trap floors, you'll know them when you see them ;)
Hah, I managed to kill a Metal Slime because it used hocus pocus on the 2nd turn which made my team focus their strength and dealt 2 damage per hit.
^How'd you get 2 hits? The way I did was get 4 poison needles for the daughter and my 3 slimes and try my luck at getting a critical hit.
BTW is there a 3rd casino? ..and to access the TnT board in the bonus dungeon I have to
! beat Estark first right?
There's no third Casino. And you're correct about the T n T board.

It didn't run on the first turn and I managed to damage it a bit, on the second turn it used Hocus Pocus which made my team muster their strength so they dealt 2hp damage per hit and I managed to kill it.
Beat the game last night, took me 40 hours :P
Gone through the bonus dungeon and found Estark, but I didn't fight him.
I beat the game in under 25 hours :P
Gonna spend the next few hours raising my Monsters' levels and fightin Estark. That or move on to another game :)

Thanks I have found them ^^. Now I only have to be strong enough to beat Estark in 15 turns >_>. I hope that like that I'll have the last object for the museum…
if u want to beat him under 15 turns…I suggest you be at a level higher than 50...
Well, I did some leveling up of the two secret monsters.
! Starkers is pretty good out of the box, with over 300 HP, good strength and defense, but he has zero MP and his equipment selection is so-so (I think it's the same as a Killing Machine). The bad part is that every level-up he gains no stats except for MP. Zero everything, except for small amounts of MP. His attacks seem pretty good so far, but the lack of MP is a problem. I'm hoping he starts picking up speed in higher levels.
! Rebjorn is actually much worse than Starkers. He has horrible stats all-around. Worse, his equipment selection is just as terrible as a Great Dragon! No shields, and only fang and claw weapons. His learned attacks don't seem as good as those of Starkers, either.
I think that these guys are both subpar until level 99, like an Onion Knight in the DS remake of FF III. I'll keep leveling them up until I get really bored and see where it goes.
Beat Estark earlier today but only just. I played the final T 'n' T board and bought 9 meteorite bracer's. I'm currently fighting Metal King Slimes to level/recruit one.
Where do you get these secret monsters?
You can't recruit Metal King Slimes. Only normals and liquids.
The first secret monster is the prize of the final T n T board. You get the second one by checking the pot where you locked up Bjorn after recruiting the first one.
So, I just got to the marraige segment. I think I may make 3 files right here and just play a file with each bride.
My question is, are the only party members the Hero/ Pankraz's son and his bride (not counting monsters)?

Aww, I really wanted a Metal King Slime.

You get more human members a bit later.
Nope there are other non-monsters that will join your party.

That's Dwight Da White Dwarf to you sir!
My copy of the Dragon Quest V Symphonic Suite arrived today! Along with the DQVIII soundtrack. Looking forward to giving them a listen.
Does the DQ8 soundtrack contain the Symphonic/Orchestra ver. or the JP ver. of the soundtrack?
From what I can tell it's got 39 tracks from the game since it is the OST and some tracks from something called ME<insert japanese="" symbol="">.
Edit: The rest are called ME Collection and are just basically various sound effects, such as the level up fanfare.
You'll need to buy the Symphonic Suite Dragon Quest VIII CD for the symphonic music.
I have the CD that came out in February on pre-order as well, but it's shipping with the new One Piece album next month.</insert>
I actually bought the Japanese version of DQV a while back, but the DS version has more content - the only thing the PS2 version has over it is the graphics, and from memory some parts of the map were redone. No Deborah in the ps2 version either.
By far the best Dragon Quest game though, loved the plot.
Woahwut?! I never knew there was ps2 version…(not that I looked). Crap, and I just had to suck with emulators.

My Dragon Quest history isn't quite as good as my FF history. I've played part 1, 7, and 8. I have issues with the incredibly old school, never changing play style, but thats not a deal breaker if the story and characters are good. I keep considering getting 4 and 5 for the DS, but…
That said, I really enjoyed 8, (the graphics and exploration of the world were probably a factor in that. and Yangus...) but didn't get too far at all in 7.
How do 4 and 5 compare to 8?
i thought 8 was better than 5. If only slightly and mainly for the whole cooking items thing. Deborah >>>>> Jessica however.
@robbybedfart:

8 over 4 no question.
Fives' main strength comes from its fantastic story. It's a dyed in the wool classic rpg as far as gameplay goes, but quite frankly the story is so good nobody cares. I'd put it over 8, just about.
DQ V is a great game. You really have to feel bad for the hero, since they put him through a lot of crap. The addition of Estark was great, but he was HARD. Took me 3 tries before I was able to kill him, but when it came down to doing it in 30 turns, I didn't care enough. DQ games make it way too hard to level-grind without metal monsters, and I hate hunting metal monsters anyway. I love that IV-V are connected so much, like the I-II-III Loto saga.
DQ IV is cool because you experience the game from several vantage points.
DQ VI, I still haven't played. Waiting for Realms of Reverie to get a US release.
DQ VII is a fun game, but my problem with it is that some of it is so disjointed. I felt lost at times because if you miss conversation with just one person in a town, you have no idea what to do next. Rebuilding the portals is sometimes confusing, too. It's one of my less-liked ones, and it is LONG.
DQ VIII made it's change to true 3D amazingly. The game and story is fantastic. Love the voice acting, as well. I still haven't bother to finish all of the Dragovian Trials. Again, the ability to level up takes far too long.
I really hope DQ III gets a DS remake. III is hands down the best DQ of them all. It has the largest scope, the most customisability of characters, the strongest Hero character I've used (Thordain does so much damage), a ton of collection items (between mini-medals, getting the Gold medal for every monster, beating every TnT board, and the awesome Zenithian Dragon battles to unlock a bunch of new content), one of the saddest in-game death scenes ever, and the fake-out endgame. It's the only game I've actually done everything for and it's worth it for the bonuses.
You forgot to add the fact that you can make all your team-mates hot females a plus in DQ3 XD
Does DQVI even have a US release date yet? Wasn't it supposed to come out last year?
Now that I'm no longer posting from my phone…
For me. I've already touched upon 5 & 6. 6 has some nice plot features. 7, as syan says, is long, and not particularly engaging throughout. 1 & 2 I played on the gbc as part of the double pack, but I can barely remember. 3 I also played on the gbc, and t'was very good, bringing in dharma and so forth.

It only came out in Japan last week. Hopefully will be sometime this year, they confirmed western releases for 4,5 & 6 years ago.
So how can I play this on a PAL PS2?
@Syan:

Would I be missing out just going right to 5, or is it just lots of little minor nuance details like names or vauge references to an old event, that are there for people that played both?
Minor vague references, you'd miss out on little. Straight to five with you.
DQIV's DS release got screwed over by SE when it came to the US. For some ungodly reason, they removed ALL of dialogue that takes place when you speak with your party members during the whole game. They left in the ability to talk, but it ALWAYS says "There's no one to talk to.", regardless of how many members in your party you have.
It's also plagued by quite a lot of different accents that tends to make it hard to read the game properly. I wouldn't have a problem with it if I was hearing it, but trying to read it is a whole other story that screws with your head.
DQV on the DS, however, is absolutely great.
i think the problem with DQIV and V on the DS is that they were so silently released. I didn't even realise they were due out till I saw them in the stores. IV is currently sitting in most bargain bins.
It doesn't help that the Dragon Quest series was never really introduced until VIII in your region.
I actually have DQ1-5, & 6 for FC and SFC….but I never really played them.
How does one go about playing this game anyway? I might be willing to try it out if I can get it to run without needing to mod a PS2 or something.

How much modding do you consider modding?
Becuase I usually go about playing imports and burnt games with a combination Slide Card and Swap Magic which involves taking a little piece of plastic off the front disc try (assuming you don't have a SLIM model). I found it relatively easy, and you aren't actually opening up the console so the warranty is in tact.

Both of my PS2s are limited edition and I don't want to physically mod either of them.
On that subject, I usually don't feel comfortable doing a hard mod at all. I only have ever hardmodded my PS3 (HDD swap, no big deal) and my PSP (permanent D-Pad mod. SFZ3 came with a circular D-Pad cover that glues to the arrows. It has been an amazing improvement since I have had it).

Nothing major. Just nice parallels. It didn't drop me as much as when I was playing III and heard that sweet Tantegel Castle theme and found out I was the legendary hero of Alefgard who was mentioned in I & II, but it was still lots of cool bits that think it all together.IV is a great game, though. It's actually one of the more popular ones from what I remember back in the day, but that's when we only had 1-4 and 7. And NOBODY really got to play III until the GBC release in America. It was extremely rare.I do like V more for party interaction and story, but if you like powerful heroes, IV's Zenithian is much stronger than anyone in V. @Tsukento:

I hated losing the party talk option. I loved that in the NES IV. It was a huge unfortunate loss. However, I greatly enjoyed the accents. It really added to the feel that you were forming a team of heroes from all around the world. Each had their own style of speech, which was a fresh change of pace from just straight-forward versions of medieval English. While it sucked to lose Party Talk, the addition of recruiting Psaro, the extra final stage with bosses who hold all of his equipment, building your town, and alternate ending made up for it to me. Very glad to get all kinds of bonuses in V along with Party Talk, however.
IV is currently sitting in most bargain bins.
So is V. They both dropped price pretty quickly after release which makes me sad.
I havent seen much of V to be honest.
Although I remember that one (and FFTA2) were both released £10 cheaper in Gamestation here (£19.99)
I own a copy of V for the PS2. My PS2 is a slim model and I use Swap Magic to play my imported games, DQ V and two Tales Of RPGs. I didn't use a translation, because I had beaten the game twice before on a SNES emulator, and only had to refer to a translation guide five or six times. Overall, I think I like the DS version better.
DQ IV and V are worth getting cheap. Along with VIII they're in my top three for the entire series. The overall production values are stronger in V than in IV, though, and the party talk comment from earlier is sadly true.
Less excited about VI, though. The job system is just too cumbersome and the quest is just too long. The characters are interesting and the dream dynamic of the two worlds is really cool, but I just beat it (emulated) for the sake of beating it and not because I liked it that much. Sad, I know.

Nintendo will be publishing it apparently.
Would prefer a date for six.
