Hmmm it's been so long since adult swim started I pretty much forgot how it was setup back then.
So about Adult Swim

Sort of related, sort of not. I heard Toonami was being canceled today; quite the sad end for a formerly awesome block that dominated television, hurting Pokemon in its prime and stomping all over Nick and Disney.
I felt this argument was pretty close to the truth -
@Anonymous:
Reasons why Toonami died.
1. Gundam Seed sucked. Honestly, they pic the one that is most popular in Japan, which would not appeal to an broad American audience. Gundam X would have been better, or Turn A.
2. Trying to be like other channels with higher ratings even though that hurt Toonami's fanbase of those that fled those other channels like the plague for that very reason, there by bringing the ratings down.
3. Anime quality went down. It was either that no one was prescreening anime for awesome factor anymore, or that anime in general's quality went down. Regardless, someone was asleep at the wheel in a desperate bid to get anime company money and we paid the price for it.
4. Anime companies seemed to have it out for the channel in general, with some anime's that never even had a final season or an unsatisfactory end or pulled from the channel entirely. Very unprofessional looking for both parties.
5. Scheduling conflicts between Toonami and AS. In my opinion, this was corporate sabotage. Toonami got popular enough that they were talking about another channel and their boomerang channel was tanking, so as if to spite it's self, they create another block, put it out even later, make it seem more mature, which eventually became reality, make TOM look like shit and make it seem like only Naruto was playing that night, which was also fruitless because most naruto fans had already moved on to shippuuden via the internet, or fell out of love after the filler, which may be the very reason why they tried to play so much of it.
In the end, Toonami got left holding the bag and even though I don't think it's fair, it's as good a time as any to end it.
I never liked [adult swim]'s attitude toward television, though I don't rightly know how to convey this dislike into words. Toonami's attitude was much less belittling and to see it collapse is truly a great tragedy.

Gundam Seed wasn't even on Toonami and I seriously doubt those two would've become popular Gundam fans (or those who wind up becoming fans) are a fickle group when it comes to the many different spinoffs.
2. Trying to be like other channels with higher ratings even though that hurt Toonami's fanbase of those that fled those other channels like the plague for that very reason, there by bringing the ratings down.
Like what other channels? cause as it was Toonami had no major competition on Saturdays let alone the weekdays (could be wrong on that last bit).
3. Anime quality went down. It was either that no one was prescreening anime for awesome factor anymore, or that anime in general's quality went down. Regardless, someone was asleep at the wheel in a desperate bid to get anime company money and we paid the price for it.
I really don't why they'd had to prescreen something for awesomeness that 9 times out of 10 wouldn't have even been that great not to mention that what people may consider awesome might not be to others, One Piece being one of a few examples.
4. Anime companies seemed to have it out for the channel in general, with some anime's that never even had a final season or an unsatisfactory end or pulled from the channel entirely. Very unprofessional looking for both parties.
If it's not popular it's gotta go unprofessional or not.

Toonami got popular enough that they were talking about another channel and their boomerang channel was tanking, so as if to spite it's self, they create another block, put it out even later, make it seem more mature,
So creating the Adult Swim block was a bad idea that ultimately had an adverse effect on Toonami cause if that's what I'm coming to an understanding of that sounds completely stupid.
and make it seem like only Naruto was playing that night, which was also fruitless because most naruto fans had already moved on to shippuuden via the internet, or fell out of love after the filler, which may be the very reason why they tried to play so much of it.
Must have completely forgot that half of Naruto's fanbase are people who…
1. Don't know about the original series
2. Don't know of or have the means to get access to the original episodes.
3. Aren't even old enough to learn how to drive.I know kids say the darnedest things but some people with the internet say the dumbest things.

@Sandai:
Gundam Seed wasn't even on Toonami.
I know that. Hence the "pretty close to the truth" line.
What I want to know is why you quoted that info as coming from ME?
-
My bad I'm trying to correct that.

I'm pretty sure Gundam X could've easily pulled the Gundam Wing and G Saviour fans, but Gundam is a horrible series to begin with anyway (at least in my opinion ).

@Sandai:
Like what other channels? cause as it was Toonami had no major competition on Saturdays let alone the weekdays (could be wrong on that last bit).
I could answer that.
Cartoon Network doesn't want to rake in viewers ages 18-25, they want the tween demographics 8-12 like what 4Kids aims for in Saturday morning. This is because the toy advertisers pay money for those ad slots and they want to make sure they're getting to the right audience. Adults aren't going to buy Power Wheels or Lego Playsets unless for their kids, the parents will tune out those ads at night.
Back when Toonami was godly, it was knocking the snot out of Kids WB, owned by the same network, so to revive Saturday morning they tried to skew away Toonami's viewers. Hence the Toonami Midnight Run to allow Kids WB some breathing space - put the poplar anime with late night and create a new demographic timeslot (18-25) while letting the earlier timeslot still get 8-12.
Then Turner did experiments with [adult swim] which became more popular with 18-25, so they decided to have it replace Toonami Midnight Run but combine the Toonami anime into [adult swim]. Combined with Bebop, Big O and Family Guy, that gave [adult swim] tremendous ratings that drew all the 18-25 away from Toonami.
At the same time, Nickelodeon and Toon Disney (which became a regular cable channel not just a premium) were increasing in ratings, primarily due to live action teen oriented television (TD has Power Rangers you see). Being "Cartoon Network" CN couldn't just go down that route, so ratings suffered and the time-slot degraded.
Combined with the anime recession of 2005, CN had to resort to live action just to pull in interest. Afterall, what good is showing anime if there's no good anime to show? Apparently none of the creative directors from the HB renaissance in the 1990's could cook up good shows except MEGAS which got canceled for the dumbest reasons - wrong demographic. Same for Samurai Jack.
If you look at Toonami, it would be still doing amazing business if it switched to older demographic programming, but since the network ops want the 8-12 demographic which is the most lucrative they're axing the block instead.

But wouldn't the older demographic be a bit tougher to deal with?
-
How do you mean? Like harder to market to?
-
Yea let's go with that.
-
I dunno, just advertise axe deodorant or trojan condoms. I'm sure people use those.
-
Is it just me or did another Anime fall off the face of AS?
Seems Gigantor is gone off the air on the 5:30 timeslot.who took over that timeslot
-
Gigantor's been off for a while as for what replaced it I believe one series was Idaten Jump (could be wrong).

With my new DVR my cable box has the ability to display programs on the guide for a solid week. Saturday night I was greeted with the Saturday night block how it was before it changed last. Upon going to the AS forums I found out that is simply a place holder for Burger King's Viewer Choice night, which'll be:
11:00 PM - Venture Brothers - "20 Years to Midnight"
11:30 PM - Cowboy Bebop - "Toys In the Attic"
12:00 AM - ATHF - "Total Re-Carl"
12:15 AM - Metalocalypse - "Dethclown"
12:30 AM - Shin Chan - "Penny Builds Her Dream House"
1:00 AM - Death Note - "Revival"
1:30 AM - Home Movies - "Director's Cut"
2:00 AM - Bleach - "White Pride & Black Desire"
2:30 AM - Fullmetal Alchemist - "The Theory of Avarice"
3:00 AM - Harvey Birdman - "Blackwatch Plaid"
3:15 AM - Frisky Dingo - "The Great Escape"

4:00 AM - FLCL - "Marquis de Carabas"
4:30 AM - Sealab 2021 - "Bizarro"
4:45 AM - Space Ghost - "Love Sick"I suppose the last "hour" will be Inuyasha or something.

It's definitely a good one. Last BK night it was practically the same show. Here was the second winners schedule, which was out voted by the one I put in the post above:
11:00 PM - Space Ghost - "Gallagher"
11:15 PM - The Brak Show - "Brakstreet"

2:30 AM - Tom Goes to the Mayor - "Gibbons"
2:45 AM - Metalocalypse - "Religionklok"
3:00 AM - Lucy: Daughter of the Devil - "Terry the Teratoma"
3:15 AM - 12 oz. Mouse - "Booger Haze"
3:30 AM - Space Ghost - "Baffler Meal"
3:45 AM - ATHF - "Broodwich"
4:00 AM - Home Movies - "The Heart Smashers"
4:30 AM - Saddle Rash - PilotI wonder if Saturday if they're gonna put Code Geass and Moribito in the final hour or if they're just gonna put a filler. Otherwise, no CG/MB this week.
EDIT: Just found out, my instincts were right. They're just tacking on an hour of Inuyasha, no CG+MB this week.
-
The winners line-up is much better,
equal amounts of comedy and action/anime
the runner up's sucks tbh.

god I wish I had cable t.v

NEW SATURDAY SCHEDULE ONCE AGAIN.
I think it's gonna make a lot of people happy. Excluding the first hour (2 if you count Boondocks) it's Anime Saturday again. It's different from other [as] schedules cause it does not loop.Starting this Saturday, Nov. 8th:
11:00 - Robot Chicken
11:30 - ATHF
12:00 - Boondocks
12:30 - Boondocks
1:00 - Bleach (new)
1:30 - Moribito (new)
2:00 - Code Geass (new)
2:30 - Shin Chan
3:00 - FLCL (starting at ep. 1)
3:30 - Death Note (starting at ep. 1)
4:00 - Ghost in the Shell (starting at ep. 1)
4:30 - Cowboy Bebop (starting at ep. 1)
5:00 - Big O (starting at ep. 1)
5:30 - Inuyasha (starting at ep. 1)I'm hoping to get to watch GitS and all of Big O this time around.
-
It's still not a really great schedule. I doubt I'm gonna stay up that late to watch Geass.
So I'm sticking to watching them online.
-
2am isn't all that late, especially in other areas. For example, it airs at 1am here. (Adult Swim is 9/10pm-5am here) I think it's a great schedule cause it has a lot of good anime series on it, even if most have been replayed to death.
-
I'm a regular night owl, so I'll definitely be catching Bleach, Moribito and Code Geass, which will be refreshing after being anime-deprived for the last few Saturdays.

You're probably right.
I always think I'm tired on weekend nights, but usually end up staying up really late anyway. Guess I'm a night owl as well.

Bad news for those who have been following Moribito.
After only 10 episodes, tomorrow (Nov. 8th) Moribito will be restarting at episode 1. I doubt they don't just have the episodes not dubbed cause it's only 26 episodes. My guess is AS did it cause of the new timeslot and considering they threw it into the graveyard slot after only like 2 episodes they wanted to give it a chance.
So, good news for those who haven't got to see the series yet.
-
Adult Swim has acquired the episodes for King Of The Hill and it'll air '09, also in '09 Adult Swim will expand to 10:00 P.M.
-
OH GOD NO!!! I hate that show, why AS, why?!

Wow, AS getting King of the Hill is awesome!
-
King of the Hill on AS?
Alright!
-
I feel like a loner, as usual. XD
-
I feel like a loner, as usual. XD
You're not alone Buuhan. I myself could never get into King of the Hill. I mean, I guess I think it's good that AS got it and all, and I may even give it another try now, but I am not an avid fan of it.
-
God, as if Mike Judge's representation of a semi-fictional town in Texas needed to get more love than it already had when it originally aired on FOX.
It'll be kinda weird seeing it on [adult swim] at first, at least I know it'll be like that for myself when it airs for the first couple of weeks.
-
@Sandai:
Is this for weekdays or weekends?
Both.
Though I do wish it was just for weekdays, I want CN to do something with their 10:00 slots. -
I wish they bring back YuYu uncut.
-
I LOVE King of the Hill and even tho it reruns on like every channel already it coming to adult swim is awesome news!
I'd been too busy to even notice the anime was gone.. -
Nice I love King of The Hill
-
I wonder why people like that show so much…
-
I wonder why people like that show so much…
Well, I don't really like it, but I may be able to help you out.
I once read on a forum why people were saying the liked it. It's because the subject material and people in the show are realistic. That stuff happens in real life, and while they may find it funny and all that, it's just too realistic (sad, isn't it) for me to find it funny.
-
Yeah, I agree. I've tried watching the show, but it is too realistic. It's really boring to me…
-
King of the hill? Boo… It'll be whored out like they did with Family Guy (and what CN does with Flapjack)
More anime? Yay! Too bad I have Cowboy Bebop complete series on DVD to care much about the rest (Yu Yu too but only season one.)
-
huh? instead of Family Guy at 10PM , it was Clerks(animated show)
that show..dont see how it got popularshrugs
-
I have a few things to say
Clerks the animated is only six episodes long so its not much of a worry to you family guy fans
and
I'm glad adult swim plays shitty anime cause if they played one piece. I would an hero due to the fact that I would run into hot topik fags screaming out GUM GUM NOT SLIT MY WRISTS. and I dont want Luffy to become the new L at anime cons
-
Speak for yourself, there's no such thing as bad popularity. XD
Clerks: TAS seems cool so far, I had only seen the second half of the movie some months ago. Robot Chicken: Star Wars 2 was alright as well, lots better than the first. AS continues to make fun of anime, in one of their Star Wars-esque bumpers that was talking about ratings, the scrolling text said something akin to:
Seven voices scream out as anime gets Death Starred in the face.
I still can't believe they're gonna be throwing King of the Hill on there… sad part is... I'll probably end up having to watch it when I'm just laying in front of the tv.
-
Good news about King of the Hill, I always felt like it never got the attention it deserved on Fox, always treated as just an extra show amidst their big names like Simpsons and Family Guy.
I always liked the show because despite being a comedy, it was basically an animated sitcom that had a good share of realism and depth, and not just a shallow gag show like most American animation. Not only that but it was just a well crafted show overall IMO.
I'm liking the new Saturday schedule despite it mostly being reruns of good shows, the only thing on there I wouldn't watch would be Geass but since it's right in the middle of the schedule I'd probably leave it on as background noise.
Big O back on the air is great, Bebop never gets old, and Moribito I liked the first 2 episodes before I stopped watching tv in general for a while.
Wish they'd grab some new shows though. There's plenty of anime out there that could easily be marketed to the Hot Topic crowd, why not pick up one or two?
Also nice to see Boondocks, and hopefully season 3 will come along sooner than later.
Why no new Shinchan though? Need new Shinchan!
-
I'm wondering why so many people seem to hate Geass, everyone goes "Hahaha, awful show" or just plain ignore it, but no one has really gave any reasons. Either way, I think it's a good show and I enjoy it. Despite having the ending spoiled for it, when I sit down to watch it it instantly takes my mind off that, which is a hard thing to do.
-
King of the Hill is going to Adult swim and not ABC?
O.O
im shocked
