Buggy the Clown's real name is Buggy The Clown. He was allowed to join Gol D. Roger's crew because Gol misheard it as Buggy D. Clown.

RE: Chapter 720: Convict Gladiators
About bartolomeo, he is indeed a huge fan of luffy, he developped a massive adoration for the guy, so I'm wondering what if Luffy doesn't live up to bartolomeo expectation, or what if he'll be rejected? […] That said I expect that all his adoration towards luffy will turn into hate and that will make of him a terrible enemy.
Consider what Bart's impetus for liking Luffy was, though. It wasn't about Luffy killing people or anything. It was that, when Luffy was about to die on the execution platform of Gol D Roger, he smiled and shouted that he was going to be the Pirate King. And then was saved by divine providence. It's his never-say-die attitude and the fact that he is ordained by the heavens that are what drew Bart in originally, not perceived bloodlust. Sure, he may have built up an idea about what Luffy is like from what he's read in the papers and such, but that wasn't why he believes in him.
If anything, I think that if Luffy criticizes his bloodlust, he'll try to change to be more like Luffy. It's also more fitting with the overall (lighthearted) nature of the series, and the themes of the series. Luffy's ability to turn enemies into allies has been remarked upon, and he seems to gather everyone to him; why on Earth would the one exception to this otherwise incredibly powerful ability be someone who was favorably disposed originally, and who wasn't even an outright villain?

RE: Chapter 720: Convict Gladiators
@Monkey:
So what exactly do you think Law's long term plan is. To sit on his ass and let Luffy become Pirate King instead? lol
Sorry, that was a joke in response to someone taking sarcasm literally. It was supposed to be unsubtle, but internet, sarcasm, etc. I should have used :ninja: in my posts, in retrospect.
-
RE: Chapter 720: Convict Gladiators
So If you ask a murderer are you going to kill again and he say no, would you believe him?
Law murdered somebody?
-
RE: Chapter 720: Convict Gladiators
Law will most definitely betray the SH, there can only be one PK and he and Luffy will have to become enemies eventually.
Not possible. Luffy asked Law if Law would betray him, and he said "no".

RE: Dumb Predictions
Tyrannosaurus (Iceburg's mouse) will be the big bad of the series.
-
RE: Chapter 720: Convict Gladiators
The chapter pretty explicitly showed us that his admiration comes from the fact that he believes that fate has appointed Luffy to becoming the pirate king.
I mean that's not a too far fetched conclusion, coming off from what he saw in Logue town.In fact, he's 100% correct, although 'fate' is determined by the author…

RE: Chapter 720: Convict Gladiators
@Lazy:
So, um, why do you think Kuzan allied himself with Teach?
This is a good question. I'm guessing he recognizes Blackbeard as a 'rising star', and is trying to use that power to undermine Akainu's marines, but I'd expect he has more of a plan than that. We're lacking too much information to really come up with any informed speculation, though.
@CCC:
Everything points to Ricky being Kyros, but it's not "confirmed."
I really think this is a red herring, and that Kyros is the Soldier of Lightning. It would explain why no one remembers him, explains the mysterious "one wound", and suggests a connection with the other gladiators. Ricky is obviously also connected, based on his flashback involving Rebecca, but he's also apparently old - old enough that he's commenting on age catching up to him. On this basis, I'm guessing Rebecca is Kyros' daughter, and Ricky is the grandfather or great uncle (or longtime family protector or something - someone from the generation before Kyros, anyhow).
Regarding Crocodile, I don't care that much if he turns out to have been originally a woman, but I really don't want that to be the "secret" Ivankov was talking about. If anything, I want it to come out as a joke (someone thinks that's the secret, and he (or Ivankov, whichever) is just like "What kind of idiot are you? How is that a weakness?". I don't feel like "born a woman" really fits his character, but I'm sure Oda could make it work if that's what he has in mind, and ultimately, it's all about execution.
And for my thoughts on this chapter: Bartolomeo just went from an entertaining troll who I suspected was positively inclined towards Luffy, to one of my absolute favorite characters in the series. I've really been enjoying Dressrosa so far, and this has been one of my favorite chapters to date. Between Chinjao and Barto, I really feel like Oda has really been on his characterization stride this arc.

RE: Chapter 718: "The Riku Royal Army in the Flower Fields"
Maybe sugar is the way they reference smiles. Who knows, or it may be key elements to destroy in order to stop the smile production. For example a SAD Tanker. However I cannot see the tanker as something "valuable" to the Tontatta Kingdom.
When asked if the 'dark factory' they referred to was the Smile factory, they said they didn't know what was being made there. There was no other acknowledgement of any familiarity with Smiles, or the operation of the factory, so I get the impression they probably don't know about SAD or Smiles.

But the alliance and the Green Bit info got leaked anyway.
The only thing Law told Smoker not to tell the Marines was the bit about Joker (and Law's connection to him).

RE: Chapter 717: "The Forgotten of Dressrosa"
@Monkey:
Masira and Shoujou are normal humans who are just wierdos, like 80% of the people in this comic.
I'm pretty confident in that myself, but I figured since I was pointing out strange people who look like anthropomorphic versions of other species, I should include them.
-
RE: Chapter 717: "The Forgotten of Dressrosa"
big mom does have smiles.i dont know if she knows it or not but she has at least one. look at the lion in this picture of smiles. it is like pekoms
We've not seen Pekoms go full lion, and he has a turtle zoan. We have no idea if he has a second DF ability, or like Bepo, that cat dude from Hawkins' crew, Mashira and Shojou, he has some other reason for looking like an anthropomorphic version of another species.

RE: Chapter 717: "The Forgotten of Dressrosa"
Doesn't matter if it's stated or not. Vegapunk created them and Caesar simply learned how to make them and produced them for, Doflamingo.
It's called common sense.Vegapunk created a prototype artificial Devil's Fruit, yes. In the real world, the methods used to create a prototype are not, generally, the methods used to mass produce the resulting product. Most likely, Vegapunk discovered how DFs work, and through laboratory experimentation, figured out how to create an artificial DF, and then Caesar used that knowledge to develop a process by which artificial DFs could be mass-produced. Common sense would dictate that the experimental method by which the first was created is probably not the same process that is being used to mass-produce them.
Remember that the War was just a game for him, he was playing with Diamant Josu like a puppet, Josu being WB's 2nd fleet commander
He caught him off-guard and was able to take control of him with his powers as a result. Pretty much any hax power can win against nearly anyone in OP if they catch them by surprise (or their power takes advantage of a specific weakness of the target).
Kaidou is supposed to be almost even with Moria
They fought on par at one time. Even then, Moria's entire crew was wiped out in the process. And that was before Moria got fat and lazy and lost his ambition.
and it seems that Shanks got rid of him in no time.
Notice that the Marines weren't too enthusiastic about fighting a second yonkou in a row, either. Even if he thought he could beat Shanks, he might have reasoned that his losses would prevent a win against Whitebeard, and that would leave him open to the marines, and his territory open to others. He could have been the single most powerful yonkou, and still have judged that fight as "not worth it".

RE: Dumb Predictions
Chinjao and Garp went to the same boys' school, and every day, Garp would get the last bread of whatever type Chinjao wanted.
Then Chinjao challenged him to a fight between men, but he got lost and showed up several days late, by which time Garp's father had dragged him off on a training trip.
Chinjao's treasure was the various breads that he didn't get because of Garp, and he lost his memories of his youth because he wasted it chasing Garp for revenge.

RE: Chapter 717: "The Forgotten of Dressrosa"
@Lady:
How disappointing this chapter was… I mean for the second time over just a few months a well built up fight that everybody wanted to see is sidelined just at the peak of excitement. Yea, sure we got necessary information, but I really wish that Oda would stop flicking around the different groups when it gets to moments like these.
I disagree completely. The scene changes at points where tension is high, leaving the reader in suspense about what the outcome of the events are, and therefore, anticipating when next we come back. Also, because he often does this, when we switch to a different scene, it often means we catch up on whatever excitement we cut away from last time. This can be used to release tension, or to build it up even more.

RE: Chapter 717: "The Forgotten of Dressrosa"
Err noo….did that whole brief Ricky flashback mean nothing to you?
Ricky could be Kyros' father (and Rebecca's grandfather), if Kyros is SOL. It's implied he's pretty old, after all.

You say rookie I say professional at speaking my mind and not letting people that read a manga tell me it's "rules"
Oda surprises us every chapter if you think you know it all why even continue reading the manga it must be dull for such a seasoned veteran. Not sure what you're a veteran of but its cool I enjoy discussion of OP and sharing of interesting ideas nomatter how unlikely. You're absolutely correct, and I now see the error of my ways. In fact, you inspired me to come up with my own theory. Perhaps you could participate in that thread and share more of your theories, too!
Also, could you do me a favor and please use paragraph breaks in your posts? It's really hard to read a wall of text.

RE: Chapter 716: "Don Chinjao"
I guess I think of world building in the exploration of places like Green Bit and the mention of places like Kanokuni and groups like the Happo Navy. Really I had just hoped the blocks had more fighting and less time for introductions. However I love good dialgoue that involves story progression and helps build a bigger picture (world) like Jean Ango's dialogue this chapter.
World building is more than making a huge backdrop in which the story occurs, and this is something that too many authors forget. The world shouldn't be a static place where the main characters are at the center of everything that goes on in the entire world, it's important to give the impression that the world is a far larger place than we'll ever see in the story, and that many other big stories are going on just out of sight. The world should feel like a living, breathing place. The characters we're seeing in the tournament include all sorts of other people having their own adventures, from different parts of the world, with varying levels of importance (and who may turn out to be relevant to the story later… or may not). This is exactly what world building is about - giving the impression that all sorts of other things are going on, and the world isn't just some static background in which the story takes place.

RE: Chapter 716: "Don Chinjao"
And it stiil has the potential to be great if the stop fucking around.
Honestly, at this point, I'm hoping that after the manga ends, we get a remake, like FMA Brotherhood or Hellsing Ultimate.
Unfortunately, given the length of the series, I don't think it's very likely - by the end, a properly-paced anime would likely still be 400+ episodes.
What's all this talk about BB eating two Devil Fruits? I could have sworn he simply absorbed White beard's through some mysterious fashion using his DF and that blanket. I don't think he ever actually ate a second fruit. Did I miss something?
We don't know how he gained the second DF power. Maybe it was eating it, maybe not. The key point is that he somehow now has two DF powers, which is unprecedented (and was believed to be impossible).
-
RE: Chapter 716: "Don Chinjao"
@Lady:
I agree, we're also just at the beginning of the second half of OP, if it's going to be anything like the first half in terms of character growth, Luffy will be expected to work for his power ups, he'll have to hit a wall that forces him to think about a new way of fighting that may or may not come attached with risks that he'll have to work around. Powering up Luffy this early on with the Mera Mera would undermine all the training he did during the timeskip, and also undermine the potential expansion of the conventional Haki which seems to be, as Rayleigh described, the basics.
To add on to this, we're on the 4th arc after the timeskip. This is the post-TS equivalent of the Baratie arc (speaking of which, it's a funny coincidence that Luffy is now fighting Don Chinjao, and at Baratie he fought Don Krieg). Imagine how silly things would have felt if he'd developed gear second that early in the story. Hell, even if you want to go with it being more akin to the 4th arc in the Grand Line, that was Drum Island. Either way, unless Luffy ends up fighting Doflamingo or an admiral this arc (which is, admittedly, entirely possible), I don't expect to see a significant power up for him for at least another arc (and that will likely be an incremental improvement on something he already does).
If Luffy is going to get another power-up on par with gear second/gear third, I would guess we won't see it for probably another 100 chapters; we're only a little more than 100 chapters into the New World, and gear second didn't appear until chapter 387. While obviously Oda isn't required to make such power-ups equidistant or a certain number of chapters after a beginning, it's a good rough guideline based on how he likes to have some symmetry in the story, and how quickly things are likely to progress. Based on that, I would guess that we're unlikely to see a completely new ability for Luffy until at least around chapter 780, and quite possibly not until near the end (chapter 980-ish, which may not be right at the very end, but is likely to be getting close to the last major arc, at least)… if ever.

RE: Chapter 716: "Don Chinjao"
@Medical:
Jean wants the Impel Down escape crew, which includes Buggy. Buggy is a Shichibukai, though…Jean won't be getting money from him, he'll go from being a bounty hunter to having a bounty himself.
I don't think so. The Shichibukai are still pirates, even if they're pirates that operate with the permission of the WG. I would guess that, if someone fights and defeats one, they might get some scrutiny from the WG, but that by itself won't give them a bounty. However, if they already have a bounty, it's enough cause for them to increase the bounty - after all, here is an outlaw who was strong enough to defeat a Shichibukai, and it's an indication that they are willing to be confrontational in their opposition to the WG.
I have a theory that Chinjao is one of the level 6 escapees, he used to be the leader then went pirate way, got caught by Garp, sentenced to Impel Down while being still relatively young and freed just recently.
That's how he was able to hold such position despite being a pirate with an active bounty (he was introduced that way, anyway), he held the position BEFORE he was a pirate, leaving it to Sai, perhaps? Or someone else for that matter.I like this theory, but I'm having trouble making the timetable work. Sai definitely looks older than Luffy, but I would guess that he's less than 40. If Chinjao was captured a long time ago, after being the 12th leader of the happo navy, Sai would have been too young to follow him as the very next leader. I suppose it could work if he was only captured perhaps 10 years ago, but I feel as though what we've heard seems to imply that it took place longer ago than that. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'm totally rooting for this theory, though.

RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
Uhm…I dunno he could of used it anytime , I'm not saying there was a specific time to use it, but off the top of my head, against Blackbeard might of been a good time, Aokiji, Akainu and yes even Smoker. The list goes on.
We don't know if he used it against Blackbeard, Aokiji, or Akainu, though.
Blackbeard is a monster who was a part of Whitebeard's crew for more than 20 years, and was offered command of a Division despite not possessing a DF - that strongly suggests he was a beast with haki. Akainu and Aokiji are two of the most powerful haki users in the world of One Piece; even if Ace did use haki against them, it's extremely likely both have much stronger haki than him, so we certainly can't rule it out from what we saw.
The only example where we know he didn't use it was against Smoker. Of course, Ace wasn't very invested in winning that fight; all he wanted was to keep the marines from catching his brother. He seemed to be trying to dissuade Smoker rather than seriously fight him. Of course, he was a 550 million beri pirate facing off against a Marine captain; he had no real reason to take the fight seriously in the first place, and he would achieve his goal even with a stalemate.

RE: Official Manga/Anime Recomendation Thread
So i could watch Brotherhood without any plot problems or lacking understanding of it?
It's standalone, and I'm given to understand it follows the manga more-or-less exactly (I should read the manga, as I haven't yet). If you start watching and you feel like there's something that hasn't been explained, it's probably because it gets explained later.
-
RE: Official Manga/Anime Recomendation Thread
And you mention FMA, could you recommend me what of it should i consider watching? since many say FMA is great but then some say don't watch it and others say watch brotherhood and i'm slightly lost on what is the good stuff there.
The first FMA series was decent. I wouldn't call it "outstanding", but in and of itself, it would be worth watching. However, imo, FMA Brotherhood makes FMA look like garbage, so I highly recommend watching Brotherhood. If you really want, you could watch FMA first, then Brotherhood, as the first series came out while the manga was still only a fraction of the way done, so it diverges from the manga (and Brotherhood) storyline pretty heavily.
If you end up liking Cowboy Bebop then watch Samurai Champloo (it's by the same author).
I have to admit, I found Samurai Champloo to be a huge letdown. I loved Cowboy Bebop, and the narrative structure of the first episode of Samurai Champloo was exceptional, but when they didn't continue with the cool use of narrative structures, despite the entertaining fights and fairly unique story, it felt kind of generic to me.

RE: Dumb Predictions
Blackbeard acquired the power of the Gura Gura no mi by waiting until Whitebeard was dead, and the fruit's power transferred into a fruit in Blackbeard's possession.
Then, while under the cloak, he used said fruit as a suppository. Since he didn't eat it, no problem.

RE: Shichibukai Discussion Thread
So at which level would you guys place pre-timeskip Crocodile?
Average rear-admiral level
Average Vice-admiral level
Average admiral levelI would say rear-admiral level along with pre-timeskip Luffy, X-Drake, Law, and the rest of ex-supernovas.
Average Vice Admiral, from what we have seen so far, is like a Rob Lucci with a strong Haki, pre-timeskip Croc wouldn't stand a chance.
Crocodile is a master when it comes to using his Devil Fruit. From his numerous sand-based attacks to his water absorption, he has developed a wide range of powerful offensive abilities using it, and he takes excellent advantage of the mobility and defensive capabilities it provides as well. However, he (apparently) lacks haki, and also does not know any of the rokushiki techniques. This makes it difficult to compare him to the vice admirals, and we haven't seen enough rear admirals to get a good sense of how strong they are.
It's worth noting, however, that when Jozu caught him off-guard with a named technique (Brilliant Punk), he got right back up and, aside from discontinuing attacks on Whitebeard, seemed unaffected. I suspect that few rear admirals are likely to have that kind of durability (pretty much the only marines Luffy wasn't able to oneshot at Marineford were vice admirals or higher), and for a logia fruit user to have that kind of durability (when they're accustomed to not taking hits in the first place) is fairly impressive. On balance, I would guess that Crocodile would likely be a good match for most vice admirals (although all of the stronger ones would probably wipe the floor with him).
-
RE: Shichibukai Discussion Thread
by skirmish with dofla you mean getting his head chopped up?
by skirmish with Jozu you mean him taken a huge hit and saying it is not worth fighting?
by skirmish you mean the one panel when he jumped on Mihawk by surprise?
by skirmish you mean hitting Akainu from behind once and failing to stop him?And after all that, he left essentially unharmed. You got a couple of the points wrong, though. I was talking about the slash Mihawk aimed at Mr 1 which Crocodile intercepted and blocked (not the implied fight between the two, which we know nothing about). Also, when he attacked Akainu, it distracted him long enough for Crocodile to use sables to propel Jinbei and Luffy away, enabling them to get to safety. That's about as much as Jinbei was able to do vs Akainu at Marineford. Plus, while we didn't see a subsequent fight, we saw Crocodile lined up alongside the Whitebeard commanders preparing to take on Akainu (and there is implied to have been a fight, although we didn't see it). Yet again, Crocodile encountered a powerful foe, but escaped unharmed.
Even Buggy had a skirmish with mihawk, doesn't mean anything lol**.**
Yes, he had one encounter with one strong character (who just happens to use the type of attack he's seemingly immune to). If Buggy had attacked Akainu and then fought him alongside the Whitebeard commanders, he wouldn't be Buggy, because Buggy is weak.
Final point, so you excuse Jozu because he was distracted but then don't excuse Mihawk because this time Croco is the one attacking, right?
I have seriously no idea what you're talking about here. Someone stopping an attack by Mihawk (intended to cut a man made of blades) is fairly impressive, even though it doesn't mean they're on Mihawk's level. Someone sucker-punching someone else doesn't mean the person who got hit is weak - it doesn't give us enough information to know which one is stronger or by how much. I'm neither condemning nor excusing anyone here, I'm pointing out that the things people are using to trash-talk Crocodile don't really support the argument very well, and that, for whatever reason, he was in the middle of fights involving a lot of big names, yet walked away with trivial injuries. I'd call that fairly impressive, even if he wasn't particularly effective in the battle.
-
RE: Shichibukai Discussion Thread
Here's the difference between Dolfa and Croco boy
Crocoy boy was hit hard by Jozu and said: That's it I'm out
Doflamingo stopped Jozu with few fingers and literally rode him
Crocodile was sucker-punched by Jozu and decided it wasn't a fight worth continuing at the moment.
Doflamingo took over Jozu's body while he was distracted.
Had Crocodile instead caught either of them off guard, he could likely have dessicated them with a touch (as neither is a logia). Does being vulnerable to a sneak attack from another high-tier fighter make you weak?
He was also able to block an attack from Mihawk, something we've only seen a handful of characters do, and was one of a handful of characters seen to skirmish with a number of big names (Jozu, Doflamingo, Akainu, Mihawk) and yet leave the battle essentially unharmed.
-
RE: The Great New World Discussion Thread
Does anybody know what are those things below the sunny on chapter 699
It's a Japanese thing. Rabbit waves are supposed to be the fastest type of wave. So in One Piece, there are, naturally, more literal rabbit waves.

RE: Dumb Predictions
The last shichibukai is zombie Gol D Roger.
Think about it. Who else could best strike fear into the hearts of pirates? Who else could cut off the arm of an admiral?
It also explains why Oda has discussed the last shichibukai without revealing them.

RE: What will happen to the Mera Mera no Mi?
Never said training doesn't make you stronger. It just doesn't give you that big exponential power boost a major battle does.
We went from it taking the combined efforts of the entire crew to (just barely) defeat a Pacifista (using their strongest attacks), to at least 3 members of the crew being able to casually oneshot Pacifistas. And Luffy was on an island with 500 creatures stronger than he was at the start of the timeskip; you don't think he had any significant battles with them? He was fighting them while learning from one of the most powerful fighters in the world.

RE: Chapter 714: "Lucy and Ucy"
@Little:
The gladiators gears all colored gold yellow, is it gold?
Well, maybe just me but I think silver is more realistic. XDIf the armor were plain steel, yes. However, the armor used by Roman gladiators (which was the inspiration for the armor worn by the gladiators in the arena) was either bronze, or covered in bronze, so a golden color is actually accurate: Roman murals depicted gladiators in golden armor, too.

RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
While I agree with Robby's quote above about potential alliances between Emperor's, the Paramount War is an explicit example of the Marines/WG taking advantage of an opportunity when given it. Note that their goal here was to deter future pirates by publicizing the death of Ace and Whitebeard, but they of course knew the long term effect would be chaos in the New World. Still, taking out the strongest of the group and then tackling the rest after their success would be a unique exception, not a common goal. So to Zephos' point, their reaction after things backfired was simply them reacting accordingly, not them attempting to tip the power in their favor.
I actually agree with this almost entirely. I would quibble with saying that the "long term effect" would be chaos in the New World- I would say it's a medium-term effect, as I believe that the WG acts specifically with the stability of the world in mind, and so as far as they were concerned, the long-term effect is stability everywhere. However, I think you've misunderstood the nature of my disagreement with Monkey King - he's suggesting that the gorosei want to preserve the balance, even at the expense of the WG's power, due to some unrevealed motivations - presumably, something to the effect of, if the WG controlled the NW, it would be possible for people to reach the end of the Grand Line, which would result in the secrets of the Void Century getting out, which would presumably be catastrophic from their perspective.
I, on the other hand, think that they are (presumably) well-intentioned extremists, who believe that the WG being in charge is for the good of the world, and would take the opportunity to gain complete dominion if they thought they could. However, since they acknowledge that they can't, they believe the best course of action for the world at present is to impose as much stability as possible, and that means preserving the balance of the three powers. If they thought they could overthrow the yonkou and control the whole world, I think they'd do it in a heartbeat, and that they would only preserve the balance of the three powers at the expense of WG power if they thought they were just powerful enough to be enough of an immediate threat to cause the yonkou to ally, disrupting the balance in a manner unfavorable to the WG.
Once they had to take drastic and intrusive steps to preserve the balance (like a worldwide draft), I think they would take as many good, trustworthy candidates for admirals as they can. I doubt they'd increase the total number of admirals by much for fear of provoking the yonkou, unless they got enough that they thought they could overthrow them, but I could easily see them going to 4 admirals, especially if they have some secret plan going on in the background.
Ultimately, though, we're both speculating about possible scenarios, and my whole point in the thread was that he shouldn't use his speculation as an argument for why other people are wrong. If someone else did it, he would rightly laugh at them - and he even seems to have tried to laugh at me for doing it in this thread, even though that's pretty explicitly not what I've done, suggesting he completely missed my main point. Of course, once we started getting into details of the speculative scenarios, that was pretty easy to do, so I guess I can't really blame him.
-
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
@Monkey:
I don't care that the concealment thing is speculative. It's no more speculative than your suggestion.
I'm glad we agree: I gave a plausible speculative explanation, and so did you. Then you can stop using your speculation as evidence that people are wrong.
A worldwide draft of two really strong guys by an incredibly authoritarian and elitist government seen as too intrusive?
If they only drafted 2 people, do you really think they would have called it a "worldwide" draft? No, they drafted (at least) two admirals, as part of a worldwide draft. And drafts are quite intrusive. Most of what we've seen the WG do up until now has been in the name of stability - disrupting the day to day lives of the average people as little as possible - a worldwide draft is a pretty large change of direction for them.
They aren't going to ever go on the offensive judging by their actual dialogue.
The fact that they made an absolute statement doesn't imply that, if circumstances were different, they would hold the same position. The "given present circumstances" is implied. Yes, it's speculative to suggest that they didn't mean what they said in such an absolutist and literalist fashion as you're assuming… but it's also speculative to suggest that they have these hidden motive to undermine their own "World Government" by maintaining a balance of powers of which it is only a part.
See you keep talking about the Gorusei like the Marines and them are of one and the same mind.
Actually, I'm assuming the Gorosei, who are the putative leaders of the World Government, indeed want to maintain the absolute control over the world that seems to be the WG's goal, and intend for the World Government to be the government of the entire world.
Luffy and Crocodile were not unmatched by Marineford
I'm not even sure what you mean, here. Crocodile pretty much went around the battlefield doing as he pleased. He launched a bunch of destructive attacks, blocked an attack from Mihawk, took a hit from Jozu, distracted Akainu with a surprise attack, and ended the battle pretty much untouched; that's what I mean when I say he was "pretty potent" there. Luffy was already badly injured, and spent most of the battle evading fights with anyone higher than captain level (and he almost got his ass handed to him by more than one vice-admiral); he assuredly would have done better than he did had he been at his peak, but that's still with gear second and a large increase in strength over when he fought Crocodile; I don't think it's reasonable to suggest Crocodile had been left in the dust.
I'm struggling to think of how most of the Shichibukai we've extensively seen would NOT be stomped by the three admirals of two years ago.
I'd pretty much assume they would, if they tried to fight them. Where did I ever say otherwise?
Because the Sueprnovas weren't Admiral level threats at that point. Considering how easily Kizaru damn near took out ALL of them without really trying.
And the reason the admirals only go after admiral-level threats is because there aren't enough of them to be everywhere at once. Even with them, there are a whole bunch of threats running around of at least vice admiral level running free. Assume the government didn't have shichibukai, and instead took down Crocodile et al… another set would just rise up. The shichibukai as an institution helps keep pirates in check... but they're untrustworthy and still a pain, which is why they don't want to have too many of them.
…if you completely ignore the balance obsession of the Gorusei sure.
In their first appearance, they are worried about the balance of the world (specifically, in the context of the possibility of two yonkou meeting up and possibly allying, and the loss of a shichibukai weakening the WG's forces), for fear it will plunge the world into chaos.
After Marineford, they're worried about the balance because they don't know what will happen. They're concerned because they're down 3 shichibukai. Again, the stability of the world is threatened, from their point of view.
Every time they've spoken of balance, it's been in the context of a loss of WG power. The stability of the WG is threatened, so it makes perfect sense for them to be talking about balance, even without your hypothetical situation where they're obsessed with balance to limit the power of the WG. I agree they care about balance, but rather than thinking it's because they're obsessed and want to keep the WG from becoming too powerful, I think it's because they don't think the WG presently has the power to control the whole world, and preserving the balance of power is something they perceive to be in the best interest of the world as a result. It's an acknowledgement of their limitations, not an intentional decision.
Except I'm the one actually supported by text at this point. Whereas yours is entirely assumption.
Actually, nothing in the text supports either of our suggestions over the other - which has been my whole point in this thread. Yes, they've talked about balance, but there's no "obsession" with balance like you've talked about, and from my perspective there are excellent reasons for them to talk about balance at the times they did. You're the one imputing motives involving the WG secretly not really wanting to be the World Government, and instead intentionally making sure they don't control all of the world, whereas I'm assuming they're just a bunch of well-intentioned extremists trying to do what they think is best for the whole world - you know, the thing which is, on its face, what the WG is all about.
Getting back to my point, we're both advancing plausible explanations for the evidence which is available. So when you are like "lol no ur rong" when someone suggests an explanation which isn't consistent with your hypothesis, and your evidence that they're wrong is that they disagree with your hypothesis… it makes you look just as dumb as the people you often make fun of.

RE: Chapter 714: "Lucy and Ucy"
I think it's funny that Luffy is in the middle of a tournament battle, potentially to the death, which is surrounded by water (with him being a DF user), and with Don Chinjao (a former pirate with a bounty of 500 million) and his grandsons in the match, plotting to kill him… and meanwhile, Cabbagebish and Bartolomeo are casually discussing whether Cabbage will be able to kill Luffy. Similarly, Diamante and Bellamy's conversation suggests they assume he'll survive this fight. Even the people who want Luffy dead don't think he's in any real danger here. Not even the guy who witnessed a legendary ex-pirate threatening (and trying) to kill him.

RE: Dumb Predictions
Sanji will be hypnotized by the swirls on the mera mera fruit (much like how Wanze was hypnotized by Sanji's swirly eyebrow), and will, in a daze, eat the mera mera.
Violet will be the next nakama… accompanied by 7 of the dwarves.

RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
@Monkey:
Yes, they want stability. For a direct purpose.
Well, obviously. However, the details of that purpose are not clear to anyone but Oda. However, the WG has the goal of being… er... the government of the world. It makes a lot of sense for them to do things to preserve (and expand) their own power. It's certainly possible that it's for some other purpose, but that's currently just as speculative as a fourth admiral.
If this were so, why wouldn't they have recruited people like Bull and Fujitora ages ago?
Why didn't they pursue Pluton before Spandine? Maybe such a thing hadn't occurred to them, maybe it seemed abhorrent, maybe it didn't seem sufficiently necessary. We know they did this through some kind of massive worldwide draft, perhaps such a thing was viewed as too intrusive to be worthwhile, so long as they could preserve the status quo. Once they felt it necessary to do it anyhow, though, they might decide the time was right to go on the offensive.
And yet as we saw early on, Luffy was knocked out with the greatest of ease by Aokiji, a whole Skypiea after he defeated Crocodile. And he even now very nearly sent Doflamingo packing. I think you're overrating most of the Shichibukai's ability to be reigned in.
That seems awfully close to suggesting that One Piece follows "power levels" like DBZ, which we know isn't the case. Yes, Luffy defeated Crocodile relatively early on… primarily through a combination of luck, determination, and being underestimated by Crocodile. Crocodile was still a pretty potent individual at Marineford, where Luffy - even with gear second - was greatly outmatched. Yes, the admirals could easily dispatch Crocodile... but the admirals can't be everywhere. The supernovas were able to run around in Paradise with minimal interference from the admirals; what makes you think that powerful and knowledgable pirates wouldn't be able to do the same?
And the other rank with huge authority regarding things like being able to freely say "Hey anyone, have a snail phone that allows you to literally raze any island on earth to the ground including one of our important installations", is just something they would keep pumping up.
I agree with this; I don't think they recruited just anyone of that strength to be an admiral. However, if they found more than two suitable candidates, it's not implausible that they would reorganize to have more than 3 admirals.
Because it's really clear you didn't grasp what I think the Gorusei are really doing.
No, I get what you think they're doing, I just think it's purely speculative at present. It's not that you are necessarily wrong, it's that you're using one piece of speculation to support another piece of speculation… something I'm pretty sure I've seen you (rightly) make fun of other people for doing. There are other possibilities which are equally consistent and make just as much sense, and saying "no you're wrong, this is what's going on" is silly.

RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
@Monkey:
People have already pointed out that the Shichibukai are not in any way the same as the Marines, so they are obviously seen as important to the balance.[…] The balance is the three powers. So directly says the Gorusei. That's what it is. Kind of how you say, end of discussion.
Did those 3 powers exist prior to the Great Age of Pirates? I don't think they did, and I believe you're misunderstanding the point of their comments about 'balance'. They want stability. Since they lack the power to take down all of the Yonkou and control the New World, they consider their best option to be to preserve the relative stability that has arisen. If they had the ability to storm the New World with Pacifistas and admiral-level combatants, I have little doubt they would do that and put an end to piracy as best they could.
Like I said, why do you completely deny the possibility of three admiral limit, and have NO questions for the seven Shichibukai limit.
I would think that should be obvious. First, because they're still pirates. You don't want a whole bunch of powerful pirates running around with government sanction to do whatever they want. They'll be raiding commerce and generally doing all of the things that are the reasons the WG doesn't like pirates in the first place. Moreover, they aren't very trustworthy: just look at what we've seen in the last 2 years (in story): Doflamingo, Kuma, Blackbeard, and Crocodile actively worked to subvert the WG. That's not even counting the shichibukai who have allied with active enemies of the WG. It speaks volumes about the limits of the power of the Marines that they keep the shichibukai at all.
AND as other people have pointed out, Admirals are not just STRONG GUYS, they're a military rank with certain responsibilities, and also potentially Fleet Admirals.
Meaning the rank has meaning beyond strength. You might as well argue that there can be infinite Fleet Admirals!Okay, that's just stupid. You can reorganize your divisions to account for an additional admiral - throughout military history, nations have not infrequently done just that. Akainu has been specifically stated to have been granted additional power in order to increase the strenght of the Marines - that could easily include adding another 'division', or reorganizing the Marines into more 'divisions'. However, virtually every military is organized so that there is one person at the top of the chain of command, preventing confusion by conflicting orders or priorities: in the Marines, that means one fleet admiral, just as each branch of the US military only ever has, at most, one five-star general (or equivalent) at a time.
Heck they even talk about their being kept a limited amount of the Yonkou
The more factions there are, the less stable things are. It seems as though 4 was the number that organically arose, and now they want to keep things pretty much like that (given current circumstances) to minimize civilian casualties.
I'm not even arguing that there are more than three admirals: your arguments here are just really bad, which is unusual for you.

RE: Chopper's forms
That's incorrect. Crocodile, where that idea comes from, said that he mastered his fruit's abilities.
Well, ok, perhaps "explained" is the wrong word to use. We've seen logias get hit, without the use of haki or something they're specifically weak to, when caught off-guard - as happened to Ace and Smoker. We've also seen someone shoot Kizaru while he was distracted, and it passed through, in addition to Crocodile pulling a similar stunt. It may not have been stated, but it's been heavily implied by what we've been shown.
Is that so? Do you have the chapter where this happened?
-
RE: Chopper's forms
Is it possible to kill a logia without using their weakness or a haki infused weapon?
In Alabasta, Luffy (accidentally) knocked Ace and Smoker through a wall, because he ran into them while they were solid. It's been explained that some logia users (the original 3 admirals, for example) learn to train their reflexes so that they turn insubstantial whenever an attack hits them, but this appears to be restricted to a small group of the very best logia users. It's highly unlikely that Monet, who was not even remotely in Zoro's league, would have her reflexes trained better than Ace did.

RE: What will happen to the Mera Mera no Mi?
It began with the word "and," you absolute dingus.
Blowfish Logic 101:
Broccoli is a vegetable.
And group it in the good-tasting ones! You constructed your final sentence with very different semantic content than what Blowfish said.
To quote him:
So we have essentially another Coby suggestion.
And bury it into irrelevance option.
i.e throwing it into the Sea, burying it in Ace's grave, keeping it as a memento on the Sunny.
To paraphrase this:
So we have an option, x. And "described like this" option (such as: x,y,z).
It would, admittedly, have been slightly more clear if he had written "and a bury it" rather than "and bury", but, apart from proper use of grammar, the difference is pretty negligible. I'm not really sure how you read it the way you did, given that "and bury it into irrelevance option" doesn't make any sense in that context, and the examples would seem wholly unconnected to anything said previously.

RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
Baby 5 and Violet can both join. Then we'd have 8 boobs on the crew 0.0
Robin alone can accomplish at least that, I think.
