RE: One Piece 478 by Franky House
Oi. Again with the OMG in the script? Seriously guys, cut that out. It makes you look less credible and reliable…I swear this is like the 3rd time we asked you guys to not put that in. 2nd of all, some of the speech bubbles are blank. What were supposed to be in them? And the move Oz is trying on Luffy is not "Spiral Riffle", it is just "Rifle", if I recall. It is the same move used on Enel, except without the golden ball. Whoever is writing your script needs to clean up his act...
Other than that, thank you for the mostly clean scan.

RE: Chapter 476 "Nightmare Luffy" Discussion
Anyone notice the shirt Nami is wearing? I believe it is Perona's, as it has her (possible) pirate insignia on it. I guess it was either that or the wedding dress….

RE: Wow, One Piece is finally getting respected in Gamefaq.com
Some original Japanese versions actually bored me compared to their dubbed counterparts. Azumanga Daioh, Fruits Basket, and several other anime had voices that bored me to tears…I do not know if they just used crappy actors or some actors had that kind of faint sounding voice that you gotta really listen to hear, but I just disliked them. One Piece has very vibrant and expressive voices you can not help but stay awake and watch, which is why I like some dubs, due to strong voice acting.

RE: Why do you like/dislike any strawhat?
"Infinite powers" or not, before she met the crew, she was Crocodile's right-hand woman and, as she said herself, a SPECIALIST IN ASSASSINATION. Croc wasn't an idiot. He offed anyone who failed his missions, and that included killing everybody. He also would never have hired her unless she already had a reputation as a killer.
She didn't kill Pell because it wasn't really necessary, and at that point, she was already changing. And as for the marines, at that point in the game, it really didn't matter if she killed them or not.
Er, I must correct you as well, Crocodile only hired her because she could read the Poneglyphs, which he knew Alabasta's would have the Pluton blueprints on them. And just because she said she specialized in assassination, does not mean it is true. She lied a lot of the time, especially to Crocodile to keep him in the dark about her intentions, and most likely to the Strawhats to keep up her role as the right-hand-woman of Crocodile. Sure, she has the capabilities to kill, but so can all of the crew, and so far no one has recorded that Robin in fact killed anyone. She could have let her targets go, if she even had to assassinate.
-
RE: Why do you like/dislike any strawhat?
Hate the way Robin has had the classic, "I was a bad-guy with almost infinite power, but now it's all gone!"
Seriously, I love that she kills people, KILLS PEOPLE (quite an achievement in One Piece) with her clutch, but she's now ALWAYS against people that for some reason, can't be clutched. They're always too big. And that is simply crap.
Er, I do not want to flame you, but I must correct you that Robin never killed ANYONE in the history of One Piece. She only incapacitated. She did it to Pell, the Marines, Tashigi, etc. No one has ever died, only probably passed out of sheer pain and sleeper holds, even Spandam. She never had any "infinite power", she has always known her limits. If she had infinite power, she wouldn't have had to run away from the Marines for 20 years.
But to give my own views.
Luffy is the guy that wants to protect anyone from suffering, because he feels guilty for having Shanks to lose his arm over him. He is a selfless person when he fights for others, and that is repsectable as hell.
Zoro is the typical straight man to Luffy's crazy man, and he manages to be great as the first mate when Luffy is not thinking right. From the fight with Usopp and to the current business with Thriller Bark, he manages to bring out valid arguments. Plus he can use a sword with his mouth! How insane is that!
Nami…oh, mellorine, how I love thee! She maybe greedy, but it is always in a humorous way. She is thinking about the welfare of the crew, no matter how miserly she may be, she just doesn't want money being spent inappropiately. She used to be weak and helpless, but since the Alabasta arc she managed to prove herself as an intelligent fighter, quick on her feet and brains to counter her enemies. Her best move so far is the Fata Morganna, in my opinion.
Usopp has grown up every arc...starting from Little Garden, he has become more and more reliable. His uncanny accuracy is impressive: when he saved Robin from Spandam and the Marines, you can't help but be in awe of how great a sniper he is. Also, his ability to lie has helped him out greatly too; he beat Choo with various tricks, he faked out Mr.5 with a Tabasco ball by saying it was a gunpowder ball, he managed to get Miss Merry Christmas knocked out by her own teammate, and recently scared the crap out of Perona with fake cockroaches and a balloon hammer. He has gotten so good at lying, others can't feel but compelled to believe him.
Sanji is a great guy because he helps out the starving and is hilarious when he tries to gain the attention of women. His leg strength is no laughing matter though, he can kick up a storm like nobodies business. He can kick almost anything without breaking a sweat, and his newly revealed ability Diable Jambe makes it even crazier. He is really intelligent too; he manages to get the Strawhats out of a jam with incredible foresight, like a cook preparing a dish ahead of time. He got Baroque Works off their back by telling Crocodile they were eliminated, he used the perfume he gave Nami to track her down with Chopper's nose, he created a distraction in front of Rain Dinners so he can save the group from drowning, ruined the machinery in Maxim to stall Enel's progress and reopened the Gates of Justice so the Buster Call would be incapacitated. Also...his eyebrow cracks me up.
Chopper is too damn cute to be a doctor, dammit. His cuteness belies his intelligence and strength though, which is pretty cool if you think about it. His medical knowledge saved the group several times...Nami and her disease, Usopp after the Miss Merry Christmas/Mr.4 fight, Zoro and Sanji from frostbite (from Aokiji), Robin and Luffy after their freezing...his current conflict with his former idol Dr.Hogback seems to have really pissed him off, so he is still being developed as a character. Plus that Monster form is really something else...
Robin...ah, what a sad story she has. To become a fugitive at such a young age, merely for the fact that she knows more than she should is just terrible...and from the government, none the less! To be hated by the world, to say her existence is a sin, to have lost everything she has known in one single day...you can't even imagine how it would feel like to grow up like that. Thanks to her determination to learn the history of the world and hope to find a family who would accept her not as a sin but a person is truly touching. Aside from the Enies Lobby Arc, she always has a great intuition about things, and her knowledge and wisdom has been an immense asset to the Strawhats from the day they let her in the crew. She is motherly in various aspects, such as being the calm one in situations of panic, in hopes to cool the crew as well. However, she sometimes is too calm, that it becomes humorous. She is very honest, blunt and always matter-of-factly. This is because she has a vast understanding of the world; almost nothing surprises her, with the exception of learning something new.
Franky just joined the crew, but he is really likeable due to he is like a teenager in a 30+ year-old body. Always wearing speedos, flashy shirts, and showing off skin, he is unabashed in his appearance. However, underneathe the skin and metal, he is a huge softy...he cries over any emotional thing, which cracks me up. He is like the "tank" of the group, using his whole body to shield any disaster coming toward his friends way, much like the ships he used to build. Like they always say, "don't judge a book by its cover", so don't judge Franky by his Speedos.

RE: Official RAW Discussion II
Ok, doing my research on the filler arc, I translated some of the names of the crews. Reference: http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/onep/icehunter/index.html#

"Third Son" - Hockera
"Eldest Daughter" - Aruberu (Arabelle?)
"Son-in-Law" - Saruko (Salko?)
"Second Daughter" - Riru (Rilu or Liru or Lilu?)Pazooru Pirates (Pazool Pirates?)
Pazooru (Or Pazool, orange hair with chains)
Bigaro (or Vigaro, blue-hair ponytail)
Gairu (Yellow hair with purple headband)
Jiro (Kid with polka dot bandana)
Satton (Black hair with purple bandana)
Rahgo (Brown afro)
Bajiru (or Bajil, bowl haircut)
Sutansen (or Stansen, bald guy with big sword)
Torofu (or Toroph, big bald guy with shoulder pads)
Raisu (short guy with viking helmet) -
RE: Official RAW Discussion II
I love the way how Franky looks like he is just dumbfounded by the activities the Strawhats do in 1:08-1:14….and it seems the filler arc has a Wintery setting, with a ice skating couple, a hockey player guy, twins, and that little girl with the boss guy. This should be interesting.

RE: One Piece Doujinshi Thread v 2.0
Hm. I always wondered, every time a doujinshi has to be or is printed they have to send it to Oda's editors or maybe even sent to Oda to make sure it keeps within copyright laws? Or does Oda even look at Doujinshis of his work? I am just curious of what his reactions would be to some of the more….romantically interesting ones.

RE: The All-New FUNimation Dub Discussion thread!
Dear A-Log,
WTF?
You may be an up and coming voice actor, and good for you, but what does the dub being done in Texas have to do with the quality of the dub? And why did you feel the need to point out Texas has racists "to the brim"? That was an absolutely ignorant and somewhat bigoted statement, as the state has NOTHING to do with the company putting out the dub. Funimation is merely more funded and have more reliable voice actors under their contract, and from the results, they do their job well. I am a New Yorker myself, and I'm embarrassed by you by making this joyous celebration a emo-fest revolving around you. So, Astro Boy was dubbed in NY a long time ago, good for that, but compared to nowadays standards, it sucks; have you even listen to the old Astro Boy toons? Its like they tried saying the works of Shakespeare in 2 seconds. Furthermore, you are a "future" voice actor, meaning you are not one yet, meaning by the possible time you become one, One Piece will be properly dubbed. I would liked to have dubbed in One Piece too, but I don't have a degree in acting, nor do I have an agent. Simply put, this is the wrong place and time to complain.
Jesus Jumpin' Christ, lighten up.
Now, back to One Piece talk!

RE: The All-New FUNimation Dub Discussion thread!
I love how Nami's voice is done by Luci Christian…she always does the best women with sarcastic attitudes, like Yukari from Azumanga Daioh, and Kaname Chidori from Full Metal Panic. Her voice is perfect for Nami, because she is so used to screaming at people. XD
Same for Sonny Strait, who is doing Usopp's voice. He just fits the nervousness just right, like he did with Kuririn (or Krillin, whatever).
Another point I noticed...being a guy, I noticed cleavage! Hurray for squished boobies and their not-being-edited-out-ness!

RE: The All-New FUNimation Dub Discussion thread!
Heheh….there were some good quotes in there...
Luffy (to Masira): ...Nice make-up.
Masira: You really think so?! It really brings out the color on my face, right?
Luffy: It sure brings out something!Sanji: Aaah...Nami is still beautiful even when she is chewing someone's head off.
Usopp: When I wake up, the nightmare will be over and I will witness the serene blue sea...opens eyes WAAAAH!! A SKULL!!!
(These are not to be taken word for word, but the general gist of the quotes...)
-
After watching the Funimation Dub…
I must admit it is actually watchable! The voices are better, the humor is back to lacking puns, the music is what it used to be! THANK THE LORD! I cannot count the ways how happy I am to have viewed such a worthy anime be dubbed appropriately!
They did have to call the Log Pose "Grand Compass" but who cares about technical things like that. At least my ears are not bleeding from corny jokes and Sanji's (now normal!!!) voice.
Anyone else see it? Please, I wonder what else people think.

RE: Chapter 468 "Pirate Chopper vs. Mystery Man Hogback" Discussion
Its more of that Hogback is a superficial jerk that thinks that since the body moves its "alive". He fails to see that a dead body with someone else's soul is not the same as when the person was alive…he is just merely defiling the dead and is an obsessive grave robber more interested on the looks of Cindry than the her true personality.
It seems the body is reacting to Chopper's speech...maybe the body still has some soul left? And how did Cindry die? I have a feeling Gecko Moria might have a part in that...it was all too coincidental that he showed up as soon as she died...

RE: Brook's Move List
@bunshindattebayo:
Wow thanks alot Smartz-senpai,that's very useful.
Do you know the meaning of "Aubade Coup Droit"(the sword thrust attack)?Aubade is French for "Dawn Serenade", and is a term to refer to the song greeting the sun… http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/aubade
Coup Droit literally means "strike (with) right", and is a fencing term where the fencer extends his right arm to attack his opponent. Its the simplest of fencing attacks, as it is the most direct.

Brook's Move List
I know I posted this in the Chapter 467 topic, but its somewhat in the middle, so I thought I make a new topic so I can make sure everyone sees it!
It has been evident that Brooke uses a Musical Fencing Style: The first part of his attack refers to a type of music while the second part is a reference to a fencing term. From Ryuuma's attacks, we know Brooke's attacks as well, because he is basically a reflection of Brooke's knowledge.
UPDATE: Adding YouTube Examples of Music Styles. Each video is copyrighted to their respective owners.
I tried to translate Ryuuma's moves as much as I could, and this is what I got:
Page 3: 前奏曲 (プレリユー__ド) オフエル - "Prelude Au Fer"
–------The kanji literally means "Overture/Prelude" like that of a music piece (typically a dramatic opening to an opera), while the katakana is "pu-re-ryu-do". Au Fer is based on the fencing term "Attaque Au Fer" which is a basically attacking an opponent after hitting their sword with one's own.Page 4: 革命舞曲 (ガボット) ボンナバン - "Gavotte Bond en Avant"
–----- The kanji means "Revolutionary Dance Music" while the kana says "Ga-bo-t-to", which is then translated into Gavotte, a fast-paced French Folk dance often done by holding hands in a circle (Silly reference: Revolution...France? Cheesy, I know). The second part is "Bo-n-na-ba-n", but I translated into "Bond en Avant", French for "Leap Forward", based on the fencing move of the same name, where the fencer propels forward with one foot. It rhymes as well!Page 6: 酒樽舞曲 (ポルカ) ルミーズ -"Polka Remise (rah-MEEZ)"
–---The kanji means "Wine Cask Dance Music", which the kana refers to is as "Po-ru-ka", or polka, the great drinking dance. The part that follows it is "ra-mi~-zu", which I have made into "Ramise", named after the fencing term that which if an attack fails (by missing or by being deflected), the fencer continues to attack with his arm still extended. In this scene, Ryumma has his arm out forward while swiping his sword side to side, without pulling back toward his body.Page 12-13: 鼻唄三丁 (はなうたさんちょう) 矢筈斬 (やはずり) - "Hanauta Sanchou Yahazu Giri" - "Three-Step Crooning Notch Cut" aka "Requiem Banderole"
We have seen this signature move several times, but I wanna get into the meaning of it. Requiem is a type of song sang for the dead, and is usually solemn in nature, fitting to Brooke singing theme. A banderole by definition is usually known as a long flag or streamer with forked ends, but in fencing there is a move called the "Coup de Banderole" which is a strike made against the chest by slashing the blade's edge going across it, making a "stream", so to speak. In Brooke's/Ryuuma's case, the Notch Cut is the mark made by the blade, while the Three-step Crooning is possibly the crying made by the opponent after they take three steps, realizing they have been hurt, making their "requiem".Chapter 446 (pg 19): 夜明歌 (オーバード) * クー*ドロア - "Aubade Coup Droit"
–----The Kanji says "Night Lighting Poetic Song" but according to the kana, it is "Aubade", French for "Dawn Serenade". It makes sense as the "night-lighting" refers to the evening becoming day, hence, Dawn, where as a serenade is basically a love song often spoken in a poetic manner. Coup Droit, meaning "strike (with) right" in French, is a fencing term where a fencer attacks his opponent with his sword, which is typically in the right arm. It is a simple direct attack involving the stabbing motion involved when a person extends ones arm, unlike a thrust where a person would use their whole body to increase the force.

RE: Chapter 467 "Pirate Zoro vs Samurai Ryuma" Discussion
Well, I tried to translate Ryuuma's moves as much as I could, and this is what I got:
Page 3: 前奏曲 (プレリユー__ド) オフエル - "Prelude Au Fer"

The second part is "Bo-n-na-ba-n", but I translated into "Bon Avant", french for "Good Forward" and using the idea that an "avant" is usually used in fencing to propel oneself to their opponent to attack. It rhymes as well!Page 6: 酒樽舞曲 (ポルカ) ルミーズ -"Polka Lames (pronounced la-MEEZ)"
–---The kanji means "Wine Cask Dance Music", which the kana refers to is as "Po-ru-ka", or polka, the great drinking dance. The part that follows it is "ra-mi~-zu", which I have made into "Lames", plural of the french word Lame, meaning blade. In this case, as Ryumma shows us, there are several blades he plans to make Zoro's face into polka dots with. Interestingly enough, there is a French verb "lamer", which is "to spotface", and one of the forms is "lamiez"....just to let you know. I wasn't sure to which word to use, but I hope editors make the right choice.Page 12-13: 鼻唄三丁 (はなうたさんちょう) 矢筈斬 (やはずり) - "Three-Step Crooning Notch Cut" aka "Requiem Banderole"

RE: Is the Manga pointless?
If you think about it, by reading the manga, Robin has really not been with the Strawhats as long as the anime makes it out to be, making the decision that Luffy considers her his nakama much more powerful. She joined the crew just before they travel to Skypeia, get to Skypeia, her dream is rekindled by seeing the lost civilization of Jaya, they go back to the Blue Seas, do the Davy Back fight and run into Aokiji soon after. In that amount of time, Luffy considers her a true friend? It's almost mind boggling, but true. He took her in because she had nowhere to go and saved his life a few times (from Crocodile throwing him into the sand pit and his poisonous hook), and trusted her completely despite an Admiral of the Marines warned him not to. The anime made her stay way extended and supposedly be in the crew for almost twice as long as intended, but I just think that it doesn't do the manga justice. So, read the manga to see what you may have missed and just for kicks, if not for any other reason.

RE: Favorite Manga frames
Clams are known as feeding filters, sucking up whatever water and dirt and eating the good stuff. Basically, Depressed Luffy wants to become a soil-sucking bottom-feeder that is good for nothing besides that. Sad, no?

RE: Chapter 466 "Conclusion" Discussion
@Crocodile15:
^Yeah, but did Usopp give Perona a seizure or something? Since she was foaming at the mouth, that was my favorite part though.
No, no….it is a silly expression that manga/anime portray when someone is scared senseless. Their eyes roll in the back or their head and foam at the mouth. It's like if you suddenly went crazy and started blowing bubbles from your mouth involuntarily...I honestly do not know where it came from...
-
RE: Chapter 466 "Conclusion" Discussion
It's not overdo. It's a French term Aubade. It's a song evoking daybreak.
Aha! I knew I was off on something. So "obado" = "aubade" = Dawn serenade. I'll change that in my post.
-
RE: Chapter 466 "Conclusion" Discussion
I just wanted to clarify the new attack as shown by Ryuuma in this chapter.
It is called (オーバード)夜明歌 * クー ドロア,
….in Romanji is (Obado) Yoakuta * ku~ doroa,
....which can be translated as is Aubade (Dawn Serenade) Coup Droit.I believe that Yakuta is Dawning Song as to stay true to Brook's Song style, and as a joke due to the fact that Ryuuma is from a Japanese like country, when Japan is known as "Land of the Rising Sun" (hence, Dawning, sun rising....get it?). Not to mention Aubade is Dawn Serenade in French, as revealed to me earlier
Doroa normally means "drawer" in English, but upon further research, there is a French expression "coup droit", which refers to a fencing term. When a fencer performs a coup droit, he has his sword pointing at his opponent with his arm extended. Any attack performed while in this stance is coup droit as long as they return to said stance. This is also known as a direct attacking. In Ryuuma's case, you see him extending his arm quite overtly, which is an exaggerated coup droit, but is one nevertheless.

RE: Scanlation: 465 - Endless - ENGLISH
I don't see any problem between "Rap" and "Lap." Pending the reasoning behind one name or another I don't see how either one's better than the other. Given Japanese's R/L switchability either's legit. Though I would generally go R-first unless given specific reason to go L.
Uh, there is a very JUSTIFIABLE reason why it is "Rap" and not "Lap". Ghost Rap, as I have said before, refers to the rapping, or knocking noises often heard during poltergeists and hauntings. It is described as "a sharp blow or knock" according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a very good source of definitions. It perfectly describes the scene of the Mini-Hollow touching the wall and "rapping" upon it, causing a shock wave hard enough to make a noticeably sized dent. "Ghost Lap" does not apply to any of this. What is it supposed to mean, the ghost attacks with its lap, if it has one? If you are going to use the "R/L sound of Japanese words" excuse, back it up. I explained my hypothesis logically.
Since we are on the discussion, I believe the name of Perona's fruit is called the "Holo Holo no Mi", Holo being a Japanese form of the word "Hollow", which she can hollow her own spirit out of her body to remove…or "hollow out" the spirit of others. However, her weakness is that if she hollows herself too much, her real body stops functioning as her spirit has in fact left it. This being said, Perona's laugh is "holoholoholo" instead of "horohorohoro".
-
RE: Scanlation: 465 - Endless - ENGLISH
Thanks for the scanlation….but....
I have read better. I'm sorry. The script in this one is all out of order, as some of Usopp's sentences are mixed up with Perona's. The speech bubbles should indicate who is saying what. Also, some of the phrases that were translated before were not translated this time, like Usopp's attacks. Perona's attack is called "Ghost Rap", rap meaning a knocking noise (i.e. there is a rap on the door), and is often used to explain noises caused by poltergeists. It is not "Ghost Lap", as it makes no sense. All I can say is try harder next time. If critiquing a scanlation is bad, I am sorry, but I have to be honest if I want others to improve.

RE: (10th Anniversary) One Piece: Treasures Scans
Due to the fact that most of us are perverted young men, I have taken the opportunity to enhance and arrow what possibly could be the nipples of Robin and Nami. They are of a slightly pinkish color compared to the rest of the skin, so I have deduced that they are indeed the nips most of us are looking for. And NO, I did not add those in, look at the original picture shown earlier, and if you look hard enough, it is there.
I am indeed a lonely bastard.

RE: About the new abilities used in the Enels Lobby arc
@Fire Fist:
Wave your hand in front of your face rapidly and watch the image. Though it's a blur, you see an afterimage of where your hand was, right?
That's what Asura was. Zoro moved so rapidly that it appeared that there was 3 heads and six arms. Kaku couldn't dodge it and got sliced open.
Although that is a decent interpretation of Asura, I'd have to disagree with you. There is a philosophy that if you wish to beat someone, you have to have the desire to kill them to truly defeat them. Before Asura, Zoro only wanted to fight him because of the key (which, I might add, was the actual key to free Robin), not to seriously kill him. But after Kaku insulted her, Zoro filled with enough rage to emit an aura of Asura, which frightened Kaku enough to lower his guard and become beaten. It had nothing to do with moving one's body so fast that he had an afterimage. One, that would really hurt his neck and arms to keep that up for so long, even being as trained as him. Zoro's intensified rage was so pronounced, that it created the feeling of seeing the Goddess of Death and Destruction embodied in him, meaning he was serious enough to kill Kaku, unlike before. With this aura, Kaku was shaken up, so his Amenadachi was possibly not the same strength when he used against Zoro and was able to be dissapated by the attack, and was ultimately defeated.
As for Gear 3rd, your bones are relatively hollow. They're filled with yellow and red marrow. It's in the spongy red and yellow marrow that Red and White Blood cells are produced. Luffy's bones are unique because his organ system is Rubber, which would make his blood rubber as well.
Regular Fuusen is normal respiration. Because of Luffy's Rubber body, his lung capacity is probably ten times anyone else's in the series. That, and it owes part of his lung capacity to shonen logic. Bone Fuusen, however, forces a large amount of air into the bones, which is distributed among the bones in his body through the circulatory system, before being dispelled through his lungs.
Also a good explanation, but not for me to agree with. Firstly, do you know how hard it is to bite into your bone? It's impossible. Gear 3rd is created by Luffy biting into his thumb so he can gain access to his bloodstreams and blow air into that. His blood vessels expand with air and enlarge his body parts as he moves the air along his body. I do not know how he expels the air, because he can obviously talk while doing his, but it is possible that if he can be wounded enough so the air is eventually force out of his vessels, or maybe his mouth was bleeding and it came out of there at some point.

RE: Chapter 464 "Sanji's Dream" Discussion
Horo-Horo? What exactly is "Horo" supposed to mean? Upon researching it, the ホロ, or "horo" is used in words like "horoscope" or "holograph;" basically, english words. And from what we know from Perona's attack "Negative Hollow," I am guessing "horo" is used to be the word "hollow." So, that means Perona has the "Hollow-Hollow" fruit, being able to "hollow out" herself to create spirits, while also hollowing out others' spirits as well? This is quite confusing…it does not explain how she flies, but I suppose she can always make a spirit to look like herself....
