Reposting my thoughts from the spoiler thread:
Really liked the character work Oda put in for both Koby and Garp.
Koby only landed on Fullalead because of his honesty and capability of self sacrifice for the sake of 800 marines, even getting scolded by Garp as a marine cadet didn't change this aspect of himself and it shows.
Meanwhile Garp is a man who is convinced that he has lived his great life already, and is looking to the future and the future only, he ultimately lived up to his convictions and self-sacrificed the old man, himself, for the sake of the future, especially the cadet that's finally fulfilled his wishes of raising a great marine that protects others.
Beautiful work from Oda imo.
@Captain-M said in Chapter 1088: Final Lesson:
While Garp's final scene here looks pretty damn bad, the lack of obvious blood on the icicle makes me wonder if he's truly impaled on it.
The icicle is lodged in the exact same place Shiryu stabbed Garp in the last chapter, so it seems like he did it to stop the blood loss, a form of emergency care that's disguised as malicious to keep the BB pirates thinking he's on their side.
Furthermore, Garp is frozen to give Blackbeard himself the ultimate decision on his fate.
