@Miss:
Not sure if this has been talked about already, but I finally understand how Robin must feel 24/7.
In short, these fuck nuggets just destroyed a bunch of pretty famous and priceless artifacts (more than 3000 years old) because of whatever. I can't, however, sprout hundreds of arms and clutch their spines in half.. So all I can do is sit here and brood in impotent rage.
I saw it in the morning in my phone while i was jogging but i just tried to repress it. Whenever i read some news about art being destroyed (sigh, more frequent than you would think). Wheni think of that i just remember A l' recherche du temp perdu to stop from popping a vein. I think i already told this one ((it's how i remember it tho, may be wrong. Also, i read it in spanish).
Proust tells that in WWI when french people were withdrawing from a city they wanted to save the buildings so the enemy wouldn't destroy the arquitecture and some talked about going as far as regarding it as more important that the people but then a high ranking officer reprimanded them and said: "A building is a building only as a remembrance that it represented the people who lived there".
Ok,he said much much better and more beautifully but you get it… right?

RE: Random News Article Discussion II
English source, finally. A retired teacher of 64 died in the morning because of the head injuries he sustained.
Also, the pope issued an Apology to México but that's the thing. THAT'S THE FUCKIN THING. All the newspapers today had the headline of the pope and his commentary and not one had any info on the violent repression of the protest. I got mad at the statement cause i know my country is not full of son of bitches (but let's not get into that again) but fuck are they loud and powerful. God, it's so hard sometimes.

Violent repression in Guerrero, one of the most violent states (And it's where Ayotzinapa is). A group of students and Teachers were in protest and wanted to take control of the local airport when they were intercepted by federal forces. There's talk of more than a hundred detainees and others talk about 6 dead.
https://www.facebook.com/Desinformemonos/posts/849390761769284
https://www.facebook.com/karina.vzco/posts/10152712459725735
I'm trying to find a newspaper source but it's gonna be hard since it seems there are "elements" trying to block the news.
Spanish sources (I reckon i will translate if i don't find english ones):
http://www.sopitas.com/site/448486-desalojan-a-integrantes-de-la-ceteg-en-acapulco/
O](http://mexico.cnn.com/nacional/2015/02/24/policias-desalojan-a-profesores-de-ceteg-en-acapulco-y-hacen-detenciones)K, here's the gist.
There was some kind of a standoff between Teachers members of a Sindicate (CETEG) for the Airport and the CETEG tried to enter into the airport using a truck and the police retaliated in force. After being dispersed from a boulevard they lit on fire two trucks of the Government and blocked some adyacent streets. Different accounts varies from the number of police hurt (7 is the "middle" number) and the teacher one (6). The detainee numbers go up to 100 and some source even claim 6 dead.
They tried to take control of the airport to protest the suspension of talks with the government (Mesa de diálogo which i guess means some sitdowns face to face since this can vary from instance to instance i guess).

@Monkey:
Ok so if the patriarch of Constantinople said Ukraine was "Chipretizaring" (both orthodox countries).
I wouldn't pronounce about it cause frankly i don't have the sufficient elements and i'm arguing about an specific time and event and situation with Mexicanizar so doing the same thing on another place which i don't really know about would be ignorant of me :/
-
RE: Random News Article Discussion II
@Monkey:
So he's saying Argentina could suffer the nation of Mexico.
Rather than saying Argentina could suffer the fate of Mexico which is actually what the context of everything suggests? About having a strong bunch of cartels causing misery and chaos?Humor me. Ukraine right now is going to possibly have a UN enforced green line between normie Ukraine and Russian back ethnic insurgent Ukraine.
If I were to say that Ukraine is going to Cypriotize in Spanish, how would I say this. If I said Cyprunizar what would that make it mean. Also I dunno how Catholics in Mexico view the Vatican, but "in total control of every priest and parish" sounds like an alternative universe to me.
In México It's Chipre so it would Chipretizar (i think? lol). And again with Mexicanizar, the problem is from whom the word is coming and how it is signified in the current state of events and the position its church currently has in the country. Better choice of words next time (not like i can him in the phone tho, lol).
Also i never said anything close "total control of every priest and Parish". I said important leader in the community and leader of opinion. That's totally off of Total control, he's not Darkseid with the antilife equation, lol.

RE: Random News Article Discussion II
@Monkey:
No he didn't. You're being silly. Sorry.
Your Spanish lesson doesn't exactly convince me the Pope was making a rub on Mexico for no reason either.
It sounds exactly like ize except like slightly different if that. More total being a very very very vague difference from ize.Herp de derp I'm the leader of the Catholic world let me slander one of the world's largest Catholic nations.
I would be thinking you were crazy even if it was still Pope Palpatine.Your country is unfortunately an easy comparison to a problem in shorthand talk. You're not the only country on earth like this. Sorry. It sucks. But no one least of all a Pope is taking the crap out of you over it.
They come from the same Latin root and like i said the problem is that when he used "Mexicanizar" he is equating México as the problem, not as a country that is suffering from these problems. I'm mad cause he didn't reflect on the use of the word. Once he said it he cannot control it and it's gonna be signified like that.
He's not hating on México but using Mexicanizar in the context is really unfortunate and it is feasible to be this picky with it since he is a really important leader in the community given the majority of mexicans that proffess the same fate. It comes as even more important since there are a lot of articles that relate different elements of his church working alongside the drug cartels (granted, some of them are forced but others not so much. Also they are in spanish cause goddamit, they were written in spanish).
So to Clarify let's go in third person. Prismeru isn't saying:
"Fuck you Pope Francis for hating on México".
He's saying:
"Fuck you Pope Francis, your poor choice of words are wrong timely and categorically. You're a leader of opinion in The Latinamerican community and you saying that isn't helping since your church is hella suspicious on its relations to the drug cartels".
-
RE: Random News Article Discussion II
@Monkey:
How dare he compare a possible problem one country faces to that of another country.
Let's also condemn Merriam-Webster.How dare he equalize a whole nation to its problems.
And no, let's not check Merriam-Webster cause he said it in Spanish to a Argentine friend. Let's check the RAE:
http://lema.rae.es/drae/?val=mexicanizar (wut, i'm checking americanizar and equating it)
http://lema.rae.es/drae/?val=-anizar
In Spanish using the suffix -izar means giving something trade and remarks about the sustantive it comes from. By saying Mexicanizar or colombianizar the speaker is equating a whole sustantive to just violence and neutralizing other possible meaning in the word.

RE: Random News Article Discussion II
Remember kiddos, you have to have a white person showing anger at a joke directed at your race (¿? I guess, what the) even if you don't think that much of it (Because, hey, DACA kinda seems more important even if people don't give a fuck about it). White people are the saviour that will show your anger. Don't worry about it, Pepe! Johnny McLaw is here now!
Also, i can't find an english source but fuck you Pope Francis for Saying that Argentina could "Mexicanize" cause of drug cartels (Yeah, i know years back they said Colombianize and you are showing geniune concern but even still, fuck you. And fuck you Mexican government).

Well, if you want to see informed articles about feminism you can go to a lot of sites that have high, educational gender discussions, you don't go to cumberfans.tumblr.com and jezebel (ok, to be fair there are some respectable articles on Jezebel but there are the fews in the gaping hole devoid of humanity that is Gawker and its brother sites).
I don't like some articles in this site
but some of them are damn good:
-
RE: Random News Article Discussion II

-
RE: Random News Article Discussion II
Tumblr feminists are not exactly famous for being civil and the people who self-identify as feminists these days are usually hated because they are very confrontational, rude and extremely petty. Naturally, they bring out the worst out of the worst from men with the same traits who now try the victim coats to no avail, who to my mind are just pathetic.
I honestly stay away from these discussions like they are the plague, because nothing constructive will ever come from them.
Wut? Did you even read the article? It hardly mentions Tumblr.

I think it's really toxic to think that online interactions have to come with harshness and it enable horrible things. I do wonder at what degree it reflects reality and how much it is created on itself.

I once did an essay on Deep Throat for a congress. They rejected it, lol. I even made citations and a long bibliography.
edit: Oh yeah, this one is also good although i think Kokoro (other work by Soseki too) says more about art and life even if he never explicitly mentions it.

RE: What are you reading? (Literature)
Las once mil vergas (I love how it sounds in spanish) isn't pornography. There is a really fine line between eroticism and pornography. Some might even say it's only time what distinguishes them.
-
RE: What are you reading? (Literature)
I just finished reading George Bataille's Story of the Eye. I suppose discussing it here specifically would be unsettling to some folks here, but I wanted to write a few thoughts on it anyways. It is a really interesting work that breaks down some barriers that constrict the definition of art and what it can express. For those unfamiliar, The Story of the Eye can be considered a 'pornographic' novella, but its intent is beyond simple arousal. Rather, it uses those feelings to convey a visceral cocktail of emotions spanning the border between ecstasy and horror and, by mixing those two elements, comments on both. My copy of the story includes an essay discussing a view of the artistic merit of pornography that I'm now reading, which is pretty interesting, too, especially since it lines up with some of the thoughts I've been having after reading the story and helping give .
I wouldn't recommend this one to most of you, but anyone adventurous enough, with a strong enough stomach and a desire to challenge their conceptions of art might get something out of it. It's definitely the most evocative thing I've read lately. Actually, thinking about it, it sits in direct contrast to another thing I read recently, The Investigation. The Investigation is a Peter Weiss play that presents the Frankfurt War Crime trials in the formal and clinical way they occurred. In that way, it takes the real horrors of the holocaust and gives a cold distance to them, while The Story of the Eye couples together disturbing moments with base sexuality to bring you that much closer. Together, they both reveal things about the cruelty of human nature that I could probably write an essay on, but won't.
Next up I was thinking of doing a reread on Death in Spring, followed by finally getting around to One Hundred Years of Solitude on the prompting of Noqanky. Meanwhile, I'm asking some of my friends for recommendations on where to go from Bataille.
Eroticism or pornography (wow, now that i see this it's a rather high question)? Lez Onze Mille Verges by Apollinaire. It is a frank study of human nature and what it is to be one. It delves more in hummanity (while for example Sade dwells in Philosophy)
Art? Well, if it's on the subjetc of creating it from the artist's point of view there is a short story by Balzac called The Unkown Masterpiece. It's really god and it will leave you thinking afterwards: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/23060/23060-h/23060-h.htm (I don't know if this is a good translation. I read it in spanish)
From a philosophic point of view you can read The Legend of the holy drinker by Joseph Roth although maybe at first it won't seem to be about art.
And if you don't read 100 años de Soledad right now at least read the first…i think 5 paragraphs? they are one of the best written paragraphs in Spanish (and that's saying something. We own all of you in literature, lol).

When i die i want my wake to be done in the scariest rollercoaster possible with me at the front so when people ride they will go "DAMN, THAT GUY DOESN'T GET SCARED!" and we will all laugh,
At least until my corpse gets propelled into the air by the last loop and it crashes into the "Its a small world" Knockoff and it mentally scars children.
Then it will be hilarious.

edit: oh shit, it seems it's only for non new 3ds. God damn. I'm just gonna write a script called "A gamer cries when it doesn't go overseas". I'll just rip off Hemingway's Fiesta for the first 100 pages and then put on Kotaku Reviews with pictures of Pokemóns in-between. Maybe Hollywood will buy it.

RE: Random News Article Discussion II
This one is about a NYtimes investigation on Illicit properties of mexican bureaucracy in USA. It may sound like your run of the mill corrupt government rumor but it has touched even the president since there are documents that prove that a chinese group that was given a multimillion train licitations gifted him and various other high level officiales free houses before they were awarded it. The Scandal was so huge (a few months back) that they took the licitation from the chinese. A few days back they confirmed they had lost the licitation. Chinese aren't happy in two ways: It is a huge loss of money (they are suing for money) and it was going to be a special licitation since it would prove the new kind of business China is doing with governments all around the world using their own material and their own industry. Now it's all gone. I reckon it will send ripples time after this.
Edit:
Kakuhido was founded in 2006 by Katsuhiro Furusawa, who began reading the “Manifesto of the Communist Party,” an 1848 classic by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, after being dumped by his girlfriend. He eventually came to the conclusion that being unpopular with the opposite sex was a class issue, fueling his anti-Valentine message.
wut
Despite the Marxist rhetoric, Furusawa has since stepped down as head of the revolutionary alliance, posting distinctly un-Marxist photos of his new car and, in a Parthian shot, boasting that “thanks to our actions I purchased a Mercedes.”

RE: Recession Revolutions Thread Part III: Ukraine, Venezuela, Thailand
So how about you try to formulate actual questions and arguments? I can wait.
Also, to interpret Machiavelli's "Prince" as solely parody and irony is incredibly close-minded approach to one of the most disputed books of all times.
For the love of crap, I study ethics, philosophical antropology and political philosophy for living. I know what I'm talking about, so fucking drop the condesceding tone.
I find few things to be as annoying as condescension.
Putin does politics and Governs for a living and take a look at that.
Ok, i will stop.
-
RE: Recession Revolutions Thread Part III: Ukraine, Venezuela, Thailand
Do you perhaps see how it could apply to the current situation.
Putin is an idiot. Or a genius hidden so deep, I cannot grasp it.
Let me elaborate,
Machiavelli is known for making the most ironic book attacking and parodying in the most veiled way one member of one of the most horrible families in the history of everything so you citing the book as a recommedation as what is basically a tyrant that handles himself the same way is quite smart
but in the other hand
The author has also been misinterpreted as a really reliable manual on how to be a good government (YESH!) and citing it that way would be quite the contrary of smart.
So yeah, wut.
Edit: Oh, wait let me read your last post.
…
FUCKIN WUT.
-
RE: Recession Revolutions Thread Part III: Ukraine, Venezuela, Thailand
… How is that even remotely similar? It's like equalizing: You support democracy = You support every democracy.
Not the same.
And for the record, I consider Putin a short-sighted idiot, who really should read more Machiavelli in his spare time.
Wut .

RE: Random News Article Discussion II
in the upcoming days we remember the Bombing of Dresden. One great tragedy of the WWII:

Also, the letter of Vonnegut telling about the incident and that would be the precedent of Slaughterhouse five:

Shameless plug of a guy that translated it to spanish (lol):
