RE: Food Wars - It's In the Trash
Wow, I really like how the author put so much thought and care with the side characters! The former elite 10 graduated and are now successful chefs and our protagonist's friends, through hard work and dedication, managed to climb to the top and become the new Elite 10, the one thing all of them have been striving for and competing against each other for since the very start!
Off screen.

RE: Mafia 57: Keeping it Simple
@lecrystal and SUDK: Are you familiar with the hypo cop strategy? Or hypo firefighter in our case. You don't need to be because here is the crux of it:
Tell me why we should or shouldn't deploy this strategy.
Yes I am, it doesn't seem like much harm for everyone (excluding tree stumps) to state their 'firefighter report' in their first post of the day. If our firefighter unfortunately dies we at least can have useful info he collected to work with via the reports he sent in every day, and info you don't have to doubt about too much is always good.
I could see this giving the arsonists (and us) another mind game to play though: eg me the plain ol tree send a random cop report saying 'SUDK is an arsonist'. If I am among the ignited a few days later, questions will definitely arise like 'is SUDK one of the arsonists and he and his buddy thought I am the firefighter, but in truth I just got lucky and now its a sizeable amount of proof that he's an arsonist' or 'are the arsonists just trying to frame SUDK?'
I'll be back later to read and analyse the other posts better, in a bit of a rush right now.

RE: Mafia 57: Keeping it Simple
I would say that lynching today is more beneficial than a no lynch. We either manage to get an arsonist or we still have a confirmed… treenie to talk to us tomorrow whose input we don’t have to doubt.
I have faith in our firefighter in self preservation.

RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
I just came back from Black Panther and all I can say is… its amazing. The bold and vibrant visuals, the fully fleshed out characters (which has the most colourful and developed characters in a solo Marvel movie to date) and futuristic with a tasteful traditional African culture world or Wakanda, the well presented and thought provoking themes, the score, the solid and well rounded plot, the flashy choreographed action, almost everything.
Its not perfect, it has some flaws (like the rather messy third act, and a particular sequence that is given too little time to let the impact sink in) but those are easily overlooked by what the film does right. Probably my favourite Marvel movie to date and I'm going to give it a solid 8.5/10. Possible long review coming soon, but right now all I want to say is Wakanda Forever and
! all hail King Killmonger.

RE: DC Movies Thread - Shazam saves the day
Extremely late as always but yeah I just saw Wonder Woman today. And overall, it was fun, exceeded my expectations, and pretty damn great. Had a really enjoyable time with it. Some random thoughts:
! * While I agree with the goat that there were many ways to prevent Steve's sacrifice, it was still a decently executed emotional scene and managed to wring out quite an amount of feels from me. Mainly because I grew to like Steven a lot throughout the course of the story. He and Wonder Woman had great chemistry and watching their bond grow stronger and stronger was one of my favourite things in the movie.
- Gal Gadot was awesome as Wonder Woman. I never watched BvS before so it was my first exposure to her as Diane, and thus everything was fresh for me. She handled the quirky, confused-with-the-human-world part of WW with lots of adorkable charm and of course, the badass yet kind warrior princess part with well, awesome asskicking. The part where she stormed into the battle frontline to save the war torn village with only her sword, shield and lasso was the biggest highlight. obviously.
- WW's character development from a wide-eyed idealist to a battle-hardened warrior who's able to see the world in shades of grey was decently done.
- Themyscira is a gorgeous place. Just had to put this here.
- Nitpick #1: General Ludendorff and Dr. Poison felt underused.
- Nitpick #2: I'm saying this as someone who has next to no exposure of the Wonder Woman comic books, so maybe Ares is one of the main/important villains of the comics or something that I don't know about - but I kind of feel that there's not much need for Ares to be in the movie? Don't get me wrong, the flashy final battle was alright, but I think something along the (admittedly cliched) lines of 'the death and destruction all came from the humans themselves' would have worked out fine, or Ares just whispering dastardly plans into the ears of wee mortals in flashback scenes, and not really showing her slaying Ares in his flesh and blood form. Giving more time to set up and deliver the other 2 villains as creditable threats.

RE: Love and Loathe 2: Return of the Analysis
Its time for indisputably best princess.
Love: A character who had only been together with the crew for one saga yet has the grand title of Honorary Strawhat. Looking at her actions throughout the saga, it isn't hard to see why. Her relationship with the Strawhats felt organic and tangible. She fit right into the crew, with her determination and her love for adventure. The little arcs before the grand stage of Alabasta showcased the bond she had with the Strawhats, the turmoil and the fun times they had together, which made the whole saga work so seamlessly well. Alabasta wasn't just a faceless rich sandy country bout to overthrown by some despicable government approved pirate and to be saved by our heroes. It was the home of a friend, a crewmate they were fighting for, a princess who puts the lives of her people before herself, shouldered the burden, infiltrated said enemies organisation and risks her life so many times just to save it. No matter how many times Crocodile mocked her or tried to mentally break her, she still never gave up and put all tasks on herself, till she had her friends, the Strawhats, to share it with her. With such high emotional stakes, there was truly a sense of joy when the Alabasta arc was wrapped up, with the rain falling and hope returning to the war torn country again. Vivi may not be your typical strong butt-kicking action girl, but I'll be damned if she isn't a badass. And of course. Her goodbye scene. Never forget about that. Her return not long ago was awesome too, of course. After so much she went through it was a real joy to see her carefree and lively self right now.
Loathe: her transition from the attempted whale murderer Miss Wednesday to the noble Princess Vivi was a bit awkwardly handled. Also her naivety but that's part of her character development.
Character: 5/5 (my favourite female One Piece character so far.)
Design: 4/5 (eh…. really basic but it works just fine. And she has blue hair.) -

RE: Volume 85 Predictions/Discussion
Not a huge fan of this cover myself. I mean clearly Oda has put a decent amount of effort into it (like he always does) but something about it bugs me. Probably the hot pink One Piece logo clashing violently with the green background, and the rather generic composition.
That's some quality Reiju and Brook there though.

Norse gods family trees also make the Greek ones look tame and wholesome. Its a very good idea that they didn't decided to delve into the subject matter of something like let's say, Loki's sons.
I never watched Thor 1 before so I can't judge, but I actually had quite a good time with Thor 2 and found it genuinely enjoyable. Pretty hyped for the new movie.

RE: Chapter 862: The Intelligent Ones
I don't know. While its quite a twist to see this side of Pudding it feels a bit… forced. I get that its trying to draw some similarities between Pudding and Sanji (outcasts in their respective families) but it still doesn't work for me.
Also please no Pudding redemption but I trust Oda to not go down that route. Hopefully.... glances at Hancock sideways

RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
Personally would hope to see Luffy defeating Big Mum with the help of the Sun Pirates and make Fishman Island his own. But not this arc. Still it would be slightly awkward for Luffy to defeat Kaido before Big Mum so not really sure what Oda has in mind here.

RE: Death Note
Why does some parts of it look like an angsty teenage drama flick? Also Light, what happened to you? Where's the intelligent psychopathic delusional self-righteous murderer with a god-complex I know and love? At least that Ryuk (voice) is on point.

RE: Chapter 860: The Party Begins At 10
is too enamoured of that beautiful chapter cover of Crocodile
Oh yeah. The chapter. Its a nice little setup chapter, with lots of new characters being formally introduced. Katakuri stood out the most and looks like punk Guts–which isn't a bad thing. His 'badass' design is actually a breathe of fresh air after all those wacky designs, and I like it a lot. Though there's not knowing what's under that scarf.... my guess is a stitched up mouth the very least. Nice to see a master of Observant Haki again after hundreds of chapters ago with Enel.Of course, bout time for Jimbei to join the Straw Hats already!

Still not a fan of this new digital art style. I wish that he would go back to the Conviction Arc art style soon, this one looks too…. stiff an unnatural for me, especially with those thick lines.

RE: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part II: Do the Dio Walk!
Greato chapter. Looks like Speed King is trying to compete with King Crimson for angriest Stand. Only Araki can make Josuke being chased by a fly and Yasuho hitting a rock with a pipe entertaining. Yasuho and Josuke's dynamic is as fun as always.
Speaking of which, I'm really liking how the recent arcs let the Jojolion female characters shine, like Hato in the Damo Tamaki fight and now Yasuho. I was expecting Yasuho to be out of commission during this fight but this was a pleasant surprise.
down the mud pit you goooo Unfortunately for them, Best Girl spot will always be taken by Best Jojo.!

RE: Dr. Stone
Picked up this series for fun.
Rather mediocre and the story hasn't really hooked me yet (plus not the biggest fan of the art style) but we got to see Trump turn in to stone, so that's bonus points in my book. It has an interesting premise with lots of potential so I'll just see where this goes.
About that last chapter: so that's where you landed, Kars.
-
RE: Chapter 859: The Yonkou Assassination Plan
Enjoyable chapter.
I'm hoping that Oda would explore more of Chiffon's feelings about her mum. Linlin being such an abusive mum to her that she no longer feels any empathy to her that she had no qualms of having her husband plot Big Mum's death would make for some interesting interactions between the 2 of them.
The major highlight of this chapter for me was Bege coldly plotting the murder of one of the strongest pirates in the world the 1st second and making cute baby faces and noises to his newborn child the next. I know that the Strawhats are fundamentally good people but not saints…. but seeing them about to participate and following through a murder scheme that intently... gives me a weird feeling.... That said, I can't wait to see Luffy and Gangster Gastino ruin everything.

RE: Love and Loathe 2: Return of the Analysis
Time for me to sneak this post in and rate marimos
Love:
- simplistic but effective backstory compared to the rest of the crew. He just wants to fulfill the promise he made to a childhood friend –- one of them would be the world's greatest swordsman. Said friend's unfortunate death drove him to chase after his dream and honor her. Nothing fancy but moving, especially being such a contrast to his cold and tough exterior. I also liked his soft spot towards Tashigi.
- his respect and trust towards Luffy despite claiming to not follow anyone, even repeatedly putting his life on the line for his captain. The scene where he broke down into tears and vowed to Luffy after getting utterly defeated by Mihawk, and the scene where he was ready to sacrifice his life for Luffy and the crew's sake against Kuma was one of the many scenes in One Piece that moved me.
- Being a rather proud man and not believing in God, he was still willing to humble himself and have Mihawk be his mentor to fulfill his dream.
- horrible sense of direction. It makes for great comedic moments and is one of the quirks of the Strawhat Members that managed to age well. Speaking about Strawhat members... aside from his mutual respect towards Luffy, the little interactions he has with the crew are the things I like most about him. From his constant bickering with Sanji, trying his hardest to foil Nami's attempts to con him, his big brother moments towards Chopper.... he may be a man of few words but he fits right in the goofy Strawhat Crew. Its also interesting to note that he takes the 'we are a Pirate Crew' thing the most seriously out of the crew, like the captain's decision being absolute, and him chastising Sanji and Usopp's actions to 'leave the crew'. Might be harsh but despite the SHs being a one big family, there is still a hierarchy that needs to be followed for everyone's best interests.
- Despite his many crazy suggestions/actions, eg: I'm stuck in this candelabra. I'll cut my legs to escape. Oops Usopp and I are handcuffed together. Let's chop off our hands. Then proceeds to use Usopp as a 'sword', he's actually very calm and perceptive. Like the times when he correctly analysed the situation of Kaido during Zou. He's not all dumb muscle.
- Sometimes his killing intent is quite fun to watch.
- 3 swords!
Loathe: - the usual. A bit too stoic and 'badass' for my tastes.
- Asura
- Weird complaint but outside of his fighting ability he is….. not too crucial for the crew? Luffy is the captain, duh, Nami is the navigator, Sanji cooks, Chopper is the doctor, Robin is crucial to decipher the poneglyphs and thus complete their end goal, Franky is the shipwright, Brook is the... musician... Zoro naps, drinks the booze and lift weights.
- more of a personal taste thing but I'm not really a fan of swords as a fighting style in general. But the way he uses them is unique and that does give him an edge.
- had grown rather stagnant post-timeskip. His fights used to be him winning against all odds thrown against him, taking the hardest hits but still win standing and they were all emotionally charged. Now he fights while looking down on opponents and spewing one-liners. Monet and Pica fights were the biggest examples of this. Its not that he has been completely lacking in personality in recent arcs - the scene where he 'stole' Luffy's sake during the Grand Fleet formation and heartily licking his mouth in a small panel for example, was great.
Character: 3/5 not exactly my favourite SH but is a decent and one of the more vital and iconic characters in One Piece.
Design: 3/5 Typical 'good looking One Piece male character' design but I really like the 3 earrings, his bandanna and his belly-warmer. Iconic green hair. Also scars are cool (even if some of those unexplained….).

RE: Food Wars - It's In the Trash
!
I usually don't salt a lot but this manga has been a disappointment after disappointment since the Central Arc for me. Its like the writers forgot what made the series good and well loved in exchange of yawn-worthy plotlines, and a failed attempt at creating stakes and drama that readers would care about. Character development had become static for many characters (Souma himself), downright forgotten (Isshiki-senpai) or …. looks at Hayama in favour of Erina, a painfully stereotypical and uninteresting character. I sort of miss the earlier parts of her being an arrogant but fun-to-watch biatch. Heck, I won't even mind if the story went on the predictable plotline of Souma and co. defeating the Elite 10 one by one and finally challenging his dad, then make Erina accept his food or something (I don't like the ship itself, but it has been clear since early chapters that it was the end goal ship so eh) and wrap things up with a neat bow. Anything other than the abomination of a villain known as Azami who makes Aizen looks well-written, with plans so ridiculous but somehow failing to be entertaining in any way at all.For a group hyped since the start the Elite 10 themselves had been underwhelming. Like for some of the seats, what can you describe about their character? Uh... the guy with a katana. Big dude with a fuzzy hat. Your typical loli. Serious glasses girl. Their personalities? Wait.... They were supposed to be a colourful array of freaks of nature in cooking, yet this battle feels like a battle against some random faceless dudes. I just can't feel any tension and bring myself to care about whats happening.
Its really a huge shame because this manga had been one of my favourites in the past and I just feel that the writers could do so much better than this. Hence the gratuitous amount of salt.

I'm really glad that there's someone else appreciating the glory of Gangster Gastino.
He stole my fluttering maiden's heart right away. :wub:But these are the times when I really have wearily shake my head to criticize Oda. This was supposed to be his magnificent introduction, yet he mucks it up by misspelling his name as 'Caesar Clown'? I'm truly disappointed. Such a huge shame….
