There's a lack of manpower in the Japanese animation industry because they refuse to pay living wages and provide proper production schedules, therefore people leave it. AI covering for producers' poor jobs of managing their projects and studios properly is the problem.

Capitalism is evil and the death of the human connection. The idea of letting human create art—about letting them express human feelings and ideas—is a threat to them. Corporations want the machines that they control to make our 'entertainment', so that they don't have to pay artists to create art. They would rather use all our technology to take away the creation of art from humans, so that those artists could be used for the workforce in the service industry, until they are no longer even needed for that. It's the complete opposite of why we as a society worked to advance technology.

AI shit is terrible, and everyone involved in using it should be ashamed for putting the work of human beings below the work of machines that lack sentience.

RE: Talk LGBT Issues And Be Nice About It
Brianna Ghey was robbed of a life that older trans women like me had hoped and fought to give those that came after us. What happened to her is a crime against humanity, a hate crime, to both her and all of those that want a world without those terrible things happening to her. To see that Sky News turned off the comments on that tweet goes to show how the media has been complacent in creating the conditions that lead to the death of young girls like Brianna.
If you're not sending positive images of love and acceptance for trans people, by trans people, out into the world you are contributing to the problem.

I think the idea and desire from Marvel was for the next Big Bad to not just be another big CG guy ala Thanos, hence why Kang was portrayed the way that he was.

I wouldn't be surprised if they travel to the Makaiou Realm, which was mentioned in databooks years back. From what little I can piece together from the shots that we saw in the trailer I think that the Kaioushin are involved—and their participation in the Majin Buu arc was being highlighted—because these new foes are Makaioushin, or perhaps even just other demons that were aware of Babidi.

Ke Huy Quan for Kang, I say. It would let him really stretch as an actor, and also the guy just had really pleasant vibes. In terms of creating an character who is different from Thanos, I think Quan would be a great route to take.
Even though he was already a prominent character in Loki?
Yeah, that was what led me to think he would be a good choice in the first place. Imagine learning that OB is either the Kang, or a closely connected off-shoot that could be instrumental in the Kang's downfall? If Loki winds up coming back for the climax of the Kang story threads I think that it would be really cool to play and rely on the pre-established chemistry Quan and Hiddleston have for it.
OB being a Kang variant really wouldn't be all that different than Victor Timely being a backup plan for He Who Remains, either. It would also be a complete curve ball on multiple levels of casting.

Another gorgeous orchestral piece from Sagisu Shirou. I can't wait for the next OST to be released. Speaking of which, the first one was finally added to Spotify and YouTube officially (as well as other carriers, I'm sure). It's so hard not to fall in love all over again.

My dream would be something like Pluto or Hellsing Ultimate with 40 - 60 minute episodes covering a full volume at a time. But even with normal anime episodes you'd want it to hit a fairly streamlined pace, maybe 3 episodes to the volume at most. With 25 years of hindsight it's much easier to do that kind of trimming knowing what is and isn't going to be important for the future.
Having a new anime that needs to be translated, subbed and dubbed from the ground up could be a good excuse to clarify foreshadowing dialogue that was missed due to a lack of context when existing translations were made, run with Laugh Tale instead of Raftel from the start, and revisit things like how the okama characters are spoken about as well.
I really hope they get the time/budget/direction/marketing they need to succeed and make the ideal adaptation of the whole series.
I have to wonder if they'll literally just pull a PLUTO and release each episode as a 60 minute episode that covers an entire volume, so they could cover East Blue in 10-11 episodes for a single bingeable season.

Plenty of queer people have been murdered by the IDF in Palestine. To claim to support queer people and then turn around and approve of what is being done to the Palestinian people is an insult to all Pride flags and all queer people.

RE: Talk LGBT Issues And Be Nice About It
They can go fuck themselves. People's genders are none of their goddamned business. This shit is going to just dehumanize and get a marginalized community hatecrimed and murdered. I hope they all shit themselves for the rest of their lives.

RE: Talk LGBT Issues And Be Nice About It
What the fuck? How are they even going to do that?
Jesus fucking Christ, it's scary enough traveling within the US, am I just not going to be able to travel to the UK without being dehumanized?

@JulieYBM Maybe, but after the wet shit that was Man of Steel that set the tone for Superman in the DC movies, a return to the roots might be for the best.
The Donner film isn't even a return to roots, though. It's not even the original on-screen depiction of Superman, let alone reflective of the broader scope of the characters' history.

The biggest surprise of Sandland is that they didn't adapt it 10 years ago when there was a Dragonball drought. Or any of Toriyama's other projects.
It amazes me that so many random RPGs get anime adaptations but Chrono Trigger never did.

We don't know which animation studio will be handling the series yet, but it appears to be a hand drawn series, so I'm looking forward to seeing who exactly works on the project.
Nah, it's pretty obviously CG.
THey've gotten a lot of practice at doing Toriyama style in 3D, and I think they've realized at this point the trick is to draw the faces or add some extra details so it's pretty decent faking of 2D, but its still CG. The body language is the real give away.
The film is CG, but we don't know whether or not the television series itself is going to be CG. A single cour series alone would require a lot more time and money than CG anime typically have to play with.

RE: DC Movies Thread - Shazam saves the day
I'm really hoping that this film is setting Superman up as a sort of underdog within the DCU. I think that would be a really good twist on how he's typically portrayed in film. He's not the first in a world of superheroes, but he is the enema the world needs.

Something I often see talked about with regards to NARUTO is how people wish there was more focus on the Konoha 11, but the thing about those characters is that they would have required a ton of work to be done to flesh them out more and have them fit in with the grand narrative Kishimoto was already trying to tell.
I don't deny it probably would've been a lot a work, but, you know, he's the author. It's his job to make his story interesting. And when you introduce all these diverse characters with their own unique histories and do the bare minimum with them (for the most part) it comes off as pretty disappointing.
Hell, I think that they took up too much panel time in the comic as it was, and I think the same could be said for Deku's classmates within the context of the comic now focusing on this grand narrative.
I personally preferred the light-hearted classroom stuff that focused on characters over the "grand narrative" that all action shonen series apparently need to have, but to each their own.
I actually agree, I would have preferred the classroom stuff, and the individual storylines with Class 1A, over this endless war with AfO.

RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
It doesn't matter if there's a small 'spotlight moment' if there's no work done to build up to have those moments mean anything. Something I often see talked about with regards to NARUTO is how people wish there was more focus on the Konoha 11, but the thing about those characters is that they would have required a ton of work to be done to flesh them out more and have them fit in with the grand narrative Kishimoto was already trying to tell. WFA is absolutely amazing. I really wish that animation and live action films would use it as a basis for the Bat-Family, becuase the character dynamics really make it a ton of a fun. It's easily the best depiction of Bruce himself out there.

on a whim, i decided to pick up the series and I'm up to just before the finals of the first arc. (Rookie cup). I'm reading the manga (maybe I should have went anime first, I don't know because I wasn't serious about it) and I have to say, this is pretty great. I read it like a decade ago for whatever reason and completely forgot about it. Never got this far but I think I'm in for a ride although I do wonder how the hell can this be 1000 over chapters since I'm 60 in and have no idea how this formula can remain entertaining 900+ chapters later.
I'm invested and having fun but hopefully that spark stays throughout.its such a time capsule experience though. I can't stress that enough.
Morikawa basically just keeps Ippo's career from advancing too far as the series goes on. I would say the last few years worth of chapters have been really good, though. I've really enjoyed the last 400 or so chapters and enjoyed the breakdown of Ippo's growth, although I do think that Morikawa could speed it up a bit.

Why didn’t they just make more super?
I think everyone was looking forward to Black frieza
Toriyama didn't feel like it, and the production committee just does whatever he wants.
This story was written back as early as 2021, so it seems pretty clear that it was devised before a lot of the recent on-goings in Dragon Ball Super.

RE: Dragonball Discussion Kai: Broly but this time it's not Broly
We see Gokuu struggling to fly in the trailer, so it's pretty clear that his ki control has been shot.
We know from behind-the-scenes details (provided by AnimeAjay) that:
The staff is intentionally focusing on hand-to-hand combat for the series, so don't expect tons of ki blasts. We also know that the series directors are Yashima Yoshitaka and Komaki Aya (not officially announced yet). Yashima did a ton of solo key animation and storyboards for Dragon Ball Super, and he's not really known for anything other than being fast at his job. It'll be interesting to see how the series looks at the end of the day.
Nakatsuru Katsuyoshi is back as the character designer. Nakatsuru was the credited CD for Dragon Ball Z #200-291, Dragon Ball GT, and Dr. Slump (1997). Kubota Chikashi (CD for One-Punch Man), Takahashi Yuuya, Shintani Naohiro (CD for Dragon Ball Super: Broli), Tsuji Miyako and Ide Takeo (both chief animation supervisors for Dragon Ball Super) are chief animation supervisors, so it seems like the series will be relying heavily on staying on-model to mimic Toriyama's modern style more closely. Nakatsuru himself will apparently be personally involved with animation corrections, which is something that he has generally not done over the years.
Production began at the end of 2021, a pilot was made in early 2022 to show off as a proof of concept for Shueisha and Toriyama, and then they began recruiting animators in April 2022. Animation production began in earnest in October 2022, mostly using staff from Dragon Quest: Dai no Dai-Bouken (2020) after it had finished. With the series set to be released in the fall/autum of 2024 (usually beginning in October for Japan), that means that the series will have a full two (2) years of production before the first episode is even finished. This leaves me really excited, since it definitely feels like the production staff are being given the respect of enough production time to turn in their best work.
My only realy qualm with the trailer is the hair highlights. I think that those shouldn't have been included, they're distracting and just make the character designs look busy.

RE: Official Pretty Cure topic
Woah, congratulations to Tanaka Yuuta for getting to direct the highest grossing PreCure film! He's one of the franchise's best directors, so I'm glad to see that he got the opportunity to direct this film, especially considering how much he has worked to demand a good work-life balance since becoming a parents.

RE: Official Pretty Cure topic
OtonaPre Episode #1: the production is pretty much dead, but I really enjoyed the story of the episode. I was glad to see that the episode didn't feel the need to just insert a fight like every one of the child-aimed series do, but at the same time I have anxiety about whether or not we will get to have adult PreCure for this series. I did, however, highly enjoy the focus on Nozomi as a teacher, and the more adult edge, while also maintaining the vibe of PreCure. I really wish that this series didn't feel like such a low proudction priority for Toei Animation and DEEN. I don't know if Yes! PreCure regulars like Shida Naotoshi or Tanaka Hironori were invited to work on the series or not, but it would be very lovely to see them return—especially Tanaka considering the outstanding work he has done for Urara in the past.
I'm crossing my fingers that the production manages a miracle!

RE: Bleach Discussion █: Soul Society, but not!
Yeah, Sagisu really outdid himself yet again. I feel like there just isn't enough global recognition for this guy, because the way he combines genres really is something I'm not used to hearing from other composers. Furthermore, I'm just endlessly blown away by his ability to display such powerful emotion through his music. The big choir pieces just knock me off of my feet every time I listen to them.
It's so hard to pick a favorite piece. The guitar pieces are all insanely good, I don't think I've ever heard such crisp guitars outside of Sagisu's work. CHOKAKKU's handling of Sagisu's compositions is really rich.

This series made me truly realize how boring someone having all the powers is. It's funny when someone like Cartman in South Park does it as a parody but it's oh so boring when it's done seriously.
Exactly. That's why writing Superman can be tricky because sometimes he's just TOO damn powerful.
AFO doesn't have much of a personality other than "Mwahaha, I'm evil", either. Shigaraki's a better villain.
Eeeeh, Superman hasn't really had that problem in decades. Writers split their attention between strong foes and moral battles for Clark. Like, it really isn't hard to just create someone who is as strong as Clark. The problem is creating a character with a strong personality to clash with his personality.

RE: Bleach Discussion █: Soul Society, but not!
I mean, I shipped Nemu and Ishida together even before I found out that she looks like his mom. Afterward, the freak in my just finds it funnier (and hotter), because Ishida is absolutely the kind of guy to want to call Nemu his mommy if they were married.
Also, imagine having fucking MAYURI of all people as your father-in-law? I think Mayuri (as an abusive father left not called-out for his crimes) is completely inappropriate for a kids franchise, but if BLEACH Is just going to be retooled from now on as a franchise for adults then I say go ahead and just full ham with the weird relationship shit lol.
The Mayuri and Nemu cover song for the first Ending is so fucking good, too.
