Been watching some of the demonstrations…
I kinda like that Evasiveness and Accuracy are no longer invisible. I wish crit ratio was though.

@Cyan:
O
Huh?:
Being Psychic makes punches hurt less
Psychic powers don't work on Darkness
Psychics in theory have an edge over a trained fighter that follows a very strict decipline, thus making them easier to predict(mind reading and all). A fighter can use feints to get around an opponent that can predict their moves, but that all falls under the Dark category.
Personally, it makes sense to me.
Ah. So they are like bigger grottos. That's fine I guess.
Not sure how I feel about the lack of special items, because the rune thing looks kinda boring.
I'm kinda hoping there's more interesting shine designs. Maybe ones that are more dangerous and longer, because the two showcased were boring, even for a first dungeon. I DO the part where you encounter some gaurdians, and choose whether or not to fight them, use thier attacks to make you a shortcut your destination, or sneak around them. If this design is used all over, then damn.
A Zelda game… with no handholding linear artificial event blocking bullshit? Okay this sounds like the first Zelda game a lil bit, just with a more exapanded way of finding the lore yourself.
I like this, but again this an approach and no one knows how it's gonna play out in practice. The idea in itself makes me a lil more exited for the game.
I wish I could be exited for the new Zelda, but honestly the whole open world doesn't appeal me one bit, and by watching the trailer, I could already feel its novelty getting tired/boring and old. At the same time, I like that Zelda is going in this new direction despite how little I care about it. It reminds me of departures similar to Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask in terms of exploring within a new subtle theme. Might or might not be sold depending on whether or not dungeons attempt to move away or perhaps improve on its formula.
Haven't seen this thread in a while. Been actually streaming Castle in the Darkness and Dark Souls 3 recently. Thinking of going back into Momodora 4 for casual runs(on Hard mode XD) if I don't find a new metriodvania that suits my taste to play. The big issue with timing them for me has more to do with my shifts and not being able to do them whenever the sun is up. It gets really hot, and my fan pretty much murders the audio from my mic.. and noise gating isn't a sufficient fix either. So until air conditioning becomes a thing, my streams usually happen between 9pm-6am EST(and that's hoping the night isn't madly humid).
Also. I may also do a creative stream where I finish a drawing for about an hour or so. It's an experimental setup.
Past Streams: Momodora 4,
Currently streaming: Castle in the Darkness, Dark Souls 3 (random nights after 9pm)
Upcoming content: (these are "might do") Yoshi's Island, Momodora 4 again, maybe Kirby games(blind. never played any besides the VERY first one), Megaman Unlimited
I don't usually like legendaries(Lugia was my childhood fave, but then marketing and "Pokemon XD:Gales of Darkness" ruined it for me), but I ended up liking most of them in Gen 5. Victini, Meloetta and Genesect became my favorites for design and concept.
Well. Some looked off because they were pretty much animating old sprites that already looked disproportionately off(like Lugia). But that isn't a huge problem considering the main campaign of BW was mostly focused on the new Pokermon… which for the most part looked really good animated.
I personally think it's the best looking Pokemon game in terms of battle graphics to date to be honest. Not in terms of backgrounds, but I feel like there was more personality to the sprite animations. XY, while had some pretty models and backgrounds.. has some of the most dull idle animations I've ever seen. Attack effects too. Even the Pokemon Stadium games I felt did a better job(then again, it there wasn't that many monsters or attacks back then). Guess all the budget went into the pointless ammie feature that I never once used.
Yeah. Zygrade in Sun and Moon.. I'm like.. who cares?
@CCC:
! I'm curious- were you able to find the Great Club based on my hint alone? Did you run into the NPC wielding it and go, "Ah ha!"?
Despite the lack of vertical stacking, the world still feels pleasingly cohesive. And the impossibly massive architecture of the High Wall- rising miles above the ground below- feels like a nice throwback to the ramparts of the Undead Burg/Parish + Anor Londo. On that note, I'm replaying DS2 a bunch now, and the disconnect there is still so jarringly awful. Even the item descriptions are just bad, like they hired new writers and translators. I feel bad for the DS3 team, because they clearly felt obligated to work in shallow references to DS2 (ignoring its existence altogether would make the DS1/DS3 combo more solid, but would reflect even worse on From).
Yeah, I kinda laughed the the Giant Tree being near Firelink Shrine for almost no reason. I don't mind the lack of verticality too much, but more I miss how the first game gave you more options to branch out and explore from the start. Guess the designers figured that going as far as Gaint's Graveyard at the start, only to be taken to a dead end as bad design… but I still think it's neat to have options to explore more dangerous areas first if it means getting useful items/gear.

As for that NPC… Yeah! I saw him parked near this building and while going in for a sneaky ambush, this other hostile NPC weilding another heavy weapon came out of nowhere and caught me by surprise!! I ended up climbing down the ladder nearby in an attempt to bare my footing, and well... they were so aggressive, they attacked near the ledge and fell to their deaths. I laughed pretty hard at that! Easy loot!
It took me a while to figure there was charged strong attacks, and this pretty much solified by love for the thing. Timing a charge at rushing enemies like swinging a baseball bat at an approaching ball was just great!(Though it seems some enemies have hyper armor in thier rushes, so it's not always intuitive to tell when it works out.. sorta like Poise.. No idea how Poise works)
[/hide]
After rushing through a few areas to find the Great Club, I been taking it super slowly. Very impressed how the levels just branch off into other locations, and I think I missed quite a few on my run down to Faron's Keep. I still miss how tightly connected Dark Souls 1 was, but I appreciate how wide open this one feels and how much it seems like a different game that takes the best from all From's previous. Think I might go back to Undead Settlement to see what I missed, even though I don't like the place(I was pretty much in there for 5 or so minutes since I just ran past everything blind XD I needed to find a club that badly)
I give this one a little credit for effort for actually expanding on things that was present on their base forms, but they they got a bunch of random junk artifacts that make them look too fake. Getting kind sick of people falling for fakes on parts of the internet, but curse of every generation I suppose.
After putting it down for 2 years or so, I decided to pick up Castle in the Darkness again. It's a fast paced "retro" styled action 2d platformer that honestly feels more like someone's unpolished pet project. The problems this game has is staggering. It's really hard to speak good things about it without justifying how many problems there are. But on the other hand… in a way, it's very self aware because of the wealth of stuff it takes inspiration from. If I were to to take the most extreme influence it has to be "I wanna be that Guy". The game could get brutally unfair. It's especially bad when there's tiny i-frames for every hit you take, and death spikes placed in the most bs of places. Routing certian sections could feel like routing a speedrun at times since you'd die whole lot. Boss design is also kinda bad, as they are more you trying your hardest to manage with your extremely vulnerable hitbox and limited range options for attacking.
Despite all the pain, I really like this game despite how much I hate it. The references the game makes I feel is mostly uneeded for the most part, but some of jokes are really good and had me laughing and falling in love with the game more. There's one joke where you drop into a death pit and find a secret room near the bottom. You find two "troll" relics and on top of that, you have no way of escaping from the pit. It's like the game rewarded you with this feeling of being betrayed. What a weird game.
I like that a good portion of the comments don't really recognize that the guy is Eglamore
Untagged fanart ruined this episode for me, but it was still really good.
! I really like the softspoken Ruby and I was half wishing she got lost and stayed behind. She's just so cute!
! Funny that Yellow Diamond sent what looks like her teddy bear collection to planet Earth for a super important mission. It makes me question YD's actual personality behind her stern demeanor a little more.
Anyone know of the legendaries are actually based off anything? Like myths and whatnot?
@.access:
Are you sure that was what the type was originally meant to be? Seeing that it was originally a special type, not a physical one, it doesn't look like they were aiming for "a dishonorable version of fighting type" (or the thief to the paladin).
Anyways, even if it was the original meaning, I am pretty sure it isn't anymore. There is Darkrai, as Wagomu mentioned, who is pretty much the embodiment of darkness. Absol who is "dark" due to its connection with disasters. Or Pangoro, who is the senpai who stands for the weak and fight bullies so decidedly not the dishonorable kind of guy.
Most of Dark attacks in Gen 2 were physical though. Actually.
It isn't exclusively based on "dishonorable fighting", even though most of the moves in the set does say that. Those are mostly things that back up the triat of being dishonerable, choatic, agressive, or whatever. And it's also a reverse subset of fighting and psychic, like I've already said. Darkrai is solely based around nightmares, like psychics already are to the manipulation or consumption dreams. Heck its reverse opposite is Cresselia, and it is defined by assuring that people have joyful dreams. Dunno where the "embodiment of darkness" thing comes from though.
But yeah. What I'm saying is "dark" is mostly a trait in the Pokemon world. I think this page defines it alot better
The Dark type is represented from traits that are considered feral and untameable, specifically that born from adverse and intense complex social conditions, to that of traits that evoke a negative leaning nature, from having a nocturnal day cycle, exhibitions of unusually cruel, crafty, and clever intelligence, belligerent aggressiveness, the sentient awareness and choice to harm and/or inflict ill will, and to that of the negative end of nature and reality, such as the shadows, declination, "the survival of the fittest", destruction, comings of darker times, and to the unknown but potentially dangerous aspects of the mysterious and enigmatic. It should be further noted that the type of Dark does not automatically associate with the concept of evil, as both evidence exists of cruelty capable of Pokemon not just of the type (Ekans, Fearow) and that it is the trainer that influences majorly how a Pokemon matures and acts.
http://pokemon.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_type
I know it's a wiki source, and nothing super official. But combined with most of the dark type Pokemon and their moves, it makes more sense to me than a fantasy's definition of dark being an element or magic thing that could be offset by "light"(Which is why I find the idea of a Light typing really dumb).
It's sort of both, though, since you have guys like Darkrai that can't be explained otherwise. Even if it didn't start that way, 'evil' and 'darkness' have become part of the character of dark. Plus, the moon has associations with all of those definitions of dark, representing the cover under which crime occurs, or the time when evil itself is awakened, or just actually when things are literally dark. I'd say there's plenty of reasons for Mr. Moon to have been dark type.
I still feel the dark typing is the same as it was intended. It's like, the dark side in between the relationship physics(mental discipline) and fighting(physical discipline) share.
But you are right that anyone could assume based it is based off it's design and nothing more(like the bat could have been a trickster or prankster like Hoopa, idk). I'm just personally glad it isn't the case, because I still feel people assume the dark typing is basicaly harnessing "dark JRPG powers".
I'm worried that the hint thing would become obnoxious though. So I'm putting my faith in Gamefreak that they don't fudge it up as bad as first party Nintendo. Atleast, give me the option to turn him off, and he doesn't constantly stop the action just to tell me stuff.
I'm glad the bat thing isn't Dark because people really misunderstand what the Dark typing even means. It's basically the fighting typing, but with dishonerable/tricky moves. Not like, dark energy or whetevs. That's more suited for ghosts and to some extent psychics as far as lore goes(special dark moves are sorta psychic in nature..).
The Rotom Pokedex thing is pretty damned cool though. Pokemon Blaze Black had this one battle with N using a whole team full of them, and I have to say.. that battle sold me on tier designs. So it's neat that one is a companion of some sorts.
Saw Barnmates. Actually choosing to watch them in the order they are released on NA's CN unspoiled. Can't really tell which spoilers pertians to which for the most part in the thread, so I'm choosing to ignore the discussion for the rest of the month maybe.
! I think this episode sold me on Lapis. She's actually showing a bit of personality outside just making herself suffer, so I'm looking forward to see her open up a bit more. Also like her "whatever" demeanor in her expressions when they were being invaded by the Ruby spacecraft. Looking forward to see where this goes next. Wasn't exactly expecting the response from Yellow Diamond so soon.
I know that, but it's still an inherent Gem ability. Was just throwing a wildcard example of it being some sort of superweapon without forming/destroying earth in the process.
^(since this was about last week's ep, I assume it's safe to not use tags)
I honestly think the Cluster might end up serving as an ally for whatever Homeworld throws at Earth in the future because it seemed like it was able to do things without exactly forming. If anything, they may get a bit more guidance on what to do with themselves besides the drive to form. Like bubble the whole earth in a shield, idk?
God. This manga was a masterpiece. I'm crying over how good and absolutely unique this conclusion feels. Nau's farewell scene hit me the most.
If there's anything I wanted more of, it was seeing more of Shinsuke and Shaku before they passed on. They were my favorite pair, and Shinsuke is up there with one of my favorite all time characters. Atleast they both lived a long happy life!
Ian said it wasn't New Jersey, but a fictional place called Jersey. Infact, every location in the series is based off a combination of numerous places rather than a single location.
! I disagree on that. Especially with Lapis. I still don't feel like there's enough to her, imo. I mean, we got a shred of history but her "now/present" is still pretty damned bland. Heck, I like Jasper better and we don't even know much about her. Still, Lapis could grow once she grows accustomed to Earth, I guess.
Getting a PS4 and Dark Souls 3 later next week! P-damned exited!
I haven't spoiled myself on the game at all, but I do have a question? How ealry can I get ANY of the larger club weapons? My whole envisioned build is going to revolve around using these badboys like I did in the second game, and I'm looking forward to smashing things into oblivion once more.
I been gushing over those fakemons since yesterday. Probably some of the best fan designs I've seen yet, but that's mostly my taste. The Man line is my favorite.
As for other things that made XY too easy for me… It's how nuts the distribution was. Before the third gym, you can already get some pretty powerful stuff that made anything the main game threw almost redundant(I had an Aerodactyl and Snorlax >_>). Not to mention the monsters the game just straight up gives to you, soley to promote the Mega Stone feature. In addition to that, there's Team Flare. I don't know if the other games were just as obnoxious, but there was a point where I thought the game threw way too many grunts at you, thus alot of free easy exp.
That said, I would not really suggest things to make the game better. It's my least favorite, sure. But it's alright that the game wasn't entirely in my target demographic.
Exp share is something I don't feel anything about, even though it heavily conflicts with the new EXP system that was implemented in Gen 5. I think some percentage balance could be a good fix, but I'm actually alright with it. Nurses in routes are a godsend. I feel like I should dislike it, but they are really cleverly placed within areas. There are moments where I'd feel battered while thinking of using whatever limited resource I had before pushing ahead, and like a light within a dark tunnel... you see a nurse/doctor. I mean, the games could get rid of them, but they are such a nice dynamic to longer mandatory dungeons.
I don;t mind if the rivals are friendly or not. Just challenging and unexpected. People say it's bad design, but I loved it when the rival from RBY would just pop up in the most unexpected and even most dickish locations, only to mob you down if you have a team of weakened Pokemon.
And imagine how absolutely surprised I was when BW2 pulled the same move at the end of Victory Road. Didn't think they do it it again, but I enjoyed that he challenged me with a team filled with low pp/weakened monsters. It's something I'd like to see happen more often, tbh. I mean it's also nice when they heal you up, but that's more if it suits the rival's personality.
As for other changes… like Infinite TMs and BW's approach to making HMs 99% optional. Those were really great! It's changes like these that made it harder for me to get into the older games again.
Well… If you want to spoil yourself, the web version(raw) has been up for like a month
http://comic.mag-garden.co.jp/sengokuyoko/
You can flip through chapter 97-98
! Prepare to cry a whole lot
I'm pretty sure it's fake. There's things that seem out of place and kinda too random.
I haven't been talking much here since I moved my thoughts to reddit in general, but yeah. Normal Man was pretty damned great. It's also Jesse's last episode, which is sad considering Magic Man and the Mars stuff was his baby. I'm kinda curious who's gonna take the helm for his episodes in the future if the Golb stuff comes to play later.
That said, Every episode that came before was pretty damned great too. Finn turning into this a monstrous silhouette of his father during the "Don't Look" episode kinda further establishes the theme this season has been showing that Finn is trying to mature into a person that's better than Martin. It's really cute how fatherly/responsible he has been lately.
I know when I played around with the Blazeblack romhack for BW, I got so much laughs when they decided to make Smugleaf's last form a Grass/Dragon with its DW ability for fun. I'm kinda terrified at the idea actually taking shape with Mega Evolution. Then again, Speed Boost Blaziken exists for some goddamned reason.
And idk… while the hack did give Wotter's later form the fighting type as a secondary, I didn't see that much benefit aside the additional weaknesses. Even in meta, it would be a useless addition.
Even if Rowlet doesn't go fighting, Gamefreak could just make a new ability to power up kicking moves. Although…. I think kick moves might be a bit too powerful to get any sort of damage bonuses, it would be a pretty sweet gimmick.
Not really seeing any starter getting a Fairy typing tbh. It's as likely as a starter becoming a dragon.
I don't think it would be ice either... if GS is aware of how awful the typing is.
You don't need some cutscene driven narrative or story to be attached to characters. It's like having a favorite trading card making it your own solely based on its description or design. But if you aren't the kind of person that could see things that abstract, then well… it's your loss.
I dropped FT around the time a female member of a supposedly villainous guild had to strip down butt naked as a final punishment and then kicked out. It was a really disgusting attempt at creating shock, and I could not really tolerate even the little or silly things Mashima did anymore. That one moment ruined the whole thing for me. It didn't help I felt the manga was attempting to be pretty dark in its array of outright silliness around that time.
Bleach I just dropped because it was just plain boring. And I'm one that would say it was boring from the very first chapter. Its flaws after it entered the Soul Society Arc just became more apparent since it wasn't really improving. Sorta like back when I thought the Phantom Lord arc was the best FT had to offer, when in retrospect it's pretty bland.
Read Sengoku Youko. Not saying it's better or anything because it is, imo. It's just a better read, shorter, and is ending in 9 chapters anyway.

Aside that. Farewell to this thread. I could have been against a merge years ago, but considering I'm not active on AP anymore and is older… Whatever, I guess?
Jesus Christ, that looks harder than Dark Souls itself XD
Also, nice sculps dude! It's been a while since I looked in here. That Termina model is spectacular! I love all the liberties you took on the areas that weren't quite visible on the original map, and the creative liberties in general to add additional details. Good stuff! Looking forward to whatever else you do. Especially if the Lordran one is actually feasible.
Oh, okay. I get it
Thanks for clearing it up! Now I'm curious what her beast form looks like
I like to believe Hiiragi blinked the meteor in his universe to the one in Tribe of Void's since they were kinda uncertian whether or not it was transferred, diverted or disintegrated. But that be kinda messed up. Saving your own Earth and accidentally passing its inevitable destruction to another XD
It's either that, or meteors of the same size tends to have chances of hitting Earth in every multiverse.
It came to my mind the idea that we humans are destryoing our own ways of life by exploting natural resources and causing a lot instability in our current enviroment.
Really? I don't think that. I mean, the universe itself has a huge amount of expendable energy that is one day going to completely run out(long after humans die out). We are simply just using those resources to survive, while still looking deeply into ways to make our lives easier and possibly keep our species existing for much longer. I mean, advancements change our way of living compared to the old, but saying it's destroying it is a bit much. It's just… different lifestyles for different time periods.
But yeah... Not really related to the manga or anything.
Not sure if the translation is saying things that's leading to my own misinterpretation, but is Mor's current appearance really just an illusion or convenient form that's held up by Alladin's magic? That really means she went through with her transformation(that she mentioned wanting to do at the end of the Magnostat arc), and that makes things a little bit sad. I mean, I'd be proud of her if that was really what she wanted to do, but I'm really eager to see what happens when Alibaba finds out
The concept behind the Void Tribe's use of energy in thier timeline is so interesting. They basically found a way to alter probability into favorable results to a point where they ran out and had just about a zero chance at saving the entirety of humanity. Either that, or the energy cost for certian demands was too expensive(it's most likely this, though I like my first idea). Heck, taking a mere object between time is just as expensive as saving life on an entire planet. The laws of nature is sure harsh XD
edit: Reading further. It's both!
It kinda makes that ending in Spirit Circle look more like the "gaurdians of the multiverse" was really just playing around with pieces on a complicated game.
Does the actual owner of that video have a channel? I've seen some of his stuff on Tumblr a long time ago, and have always liked them.
I was actually thinking about Psyho Staff today and several of the intented loose ends in Spirit Cirlce. Both series has aliens with a background that was never elaborated on, and it makes me ponder if they are at all related. Prob not, since it's a big universe. But it's nice… That Satoshi's work has me thinking about what "could be", even if I happen to be at leisure someplace. It's those little things that stick with me
