If someone wants to continue talking with me about it then feel free to PM me or contact me elsewhere. I was serious about being done in this thread for now. Not for lack of responses though.

I definitely do wonder how this whole health system and the idea of spending time cooking will wind up working in the game's favor or against it.
I think at this point that's my main interest in this game: morbid curiosity about how exactly it is that they are going to balance all these systems.
Well, even though I brought it up I don't think it's really that much of a problem. It's like being able to cheese the Elite 4 in Pokemon, as long as you have enough potions (food), you'll be able to tough it out as long as you don't die in one hit or run out of PP (weapons). Technically "bad design," but nothing that stops it from being a fun game.

Cooking doesn't really take time, food and potions cook more or less right away, but locations where you can cook are usually little enemy camps, based on what footage I've seen
Plus food items and animals take an in-game day or two to respawn, so it's not really worth the time to stock your fridge completely since it would take that many hours to get enough to work through anything. -

If there's one that's located near the right respawn points that would make a pretty big difference.
Still, you're probably right overall, and farming will probably be too tedious for most people's time. And like I said, not that much of a problem if you can.

I think part of the issue here is you didn't say "Resource Management is a thing I don't like" or "Resource Management is a thing I personally don't want in a Zelda Game" but you have been calling this "Bad Game Design" as if resource management is automatically objectively bad.
It can be if it interferes with the creed and purpose of what the game is about. Read: million other paragraphs I have written expressing why these systems might conflict with user experience if not balanced properly.
Systems and mechanics are not objectively terrible in isolation. What makes them terrible is when they make no sense in the game.
It also doesn't mean the game will be bad. You can love a game and enjoy what it does while still simultaneously finding a particular mechanic or system flawed or unnecessary or unbalanced. My favorite game of all time is Kid Icarus Uprising, and I will be the first to tell you 60% of that game is ancillary bullshit that at best is a waste of space and at worst distracts from the main experience. Maybe someone enjoyed all that card collecting and trophy lottery and paying goddesses to get close to you… nevertheless, in the context of the game I still find them to be objectively bad mechanics to include.
If it's some kind of objectively bad thing that automatically means bad game design, then why aren't more people complaining about it or noticing it?
Different people access games with different perspectives and desires? Most gaming media is going to focus on an audience composed of consumers that simply want to know if the game is fun or not, and if they are able to have fun and justify the cost of the experience (both time and money), they'll naturally give it a good review. In that sense, I'm sure this game will do really well.
Other people are more critical in their experiences, and like/enjoy giving thought to things like the game design, the cohesiveness of the package, the execution of the experience, etc. There ARE outlets that will no doubt focus on this take of the game, somewhere at some point. Maybe they'll like it too, and heck, maybe they'll be able to give justification and defense for why these design choices we worry about are actually perfect for Zelda. Which is what we all hope for in the end, that these concerns turn out to be unfounded once we experience the game.
Going in with the perspective of "everyone loved it so it's perfect and i love it" is perfectly fine, and a lot of people enjoy consuming media in such a way. It's fun, and that's what designers hope for, that people have fun. But having that perspective shouldn't immediately discredit the design concerns that other people want to express and discuss at length, people that want to really pull things apart and ask why.

Not saying I think it's a problem. Rather just saying that I have no idea how it will wind up working or not, and it's something I'm curious about.

Anyone watching the BOW GDC panel?
From it initially aliens were gonna be the main villains and we got some art of concept designs they came up for Link they could have used:

A quick warning for anyone who's planing on doing a "low health run" (Item Spoilers)
! In a shout-out to Zelda 1, you can't get the Master Sword unless you have a certain amount of health. You don't need it to beat the game though.

Fuck, the more I think about The Rock n' Roll Legend of Zelda the more I want it.
Link is you're average Hylian bass player with a motorcycle looking to make it big. With the help of his good pal Groose, Link sets out on a road trip to gather the most rad band in all the land.
It ends like Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

FFXV is already a thing.

The ffxv Bros can't jam.

The wallet upgrades were probably the worst thing about Ocarina of Time, it seriously felt bad opening a chest only find it's a ton of rupees you can't use. I certainly don't want a whole game of that feeling.
-
You cant drop rupees for more rupees, you can drop the club of lameness for the fire rod.
-
I wonder if you can drop the master sword by mistake and never be able to regain it

Seriously debating leaving my phone at home tonight so I have to play some Zelda on my 3DS until I can get my switch instead.
I don't want anymore gameplay spoilers never mind tiny possible story spoilers.

Well all the reviews have been highly positive, but console Zelda's have always been critically acclaimed it seems. I want to be super excited for this game, but I still can't get some of these fears about the game being a huge open world out of my head that it's stopping me from being excited. Hopefully Nintendo does indeed balance out pacing with the open world and that it's not something that I will get bored of after hours into the game. Tomorrow I will finally be able to start it at least.

Now, who wants to see PBG singing?

GX's review.
-
I'm watching the Metecritic score and learning two things - 1) this is the second-highest reviewed videogame on Metacritic. The highest is Ocarina. 2) Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is a fucking amazing game (but I already knew this.)
-
Just remember that Skyward Sword also was critically acclaimed and got 10/10's across the board

True, but so far all of the reviewers that didn't like SS seem to like BotW.

But how about that Mario Cycle though?

Where's the YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU LIKE 4chan post.

GX's review.
Aaaaaaaaand there it is. Inventory issues XD
That said, it is nice to hear about the design being structured, with the environment providing distractions and sidequests in between story segments to encourage exploration. That aspect seems seriously entertaining. Hope there's ways to circumvent the inventory stuff… like pacifist or stealth options to avoid unnecessary usage/hoarding of weapons.

Skyward Sword is my second favorite Zelda game, so… :/

I'm fully expecting this game to come out and absolutely everybody is going to call it worst game ever made. I don't care, I'm gonna play the hell out of it and form my own opinion.

You were both right, too little space AND too much stuff.

The dumb questions, since I don't usually buy Nintendo products these days:
Is there going to be a predownload? When do the games usually go online for purchase?

I think so. You should be able to buy it on the eshop at midnight tonight, but there's a day one patch that'll slow everyone down (even people like me who bought the disc).

Midnight EST or PST?

In Europe is already out. But I got it from amazon so I have to ignore the e shop.

Midnight EST or PST?
I dunno, I've never stayed up for a midnight eshop release. Some eshop stuff updates as late as 6am EST.

Ah, well thanks for the heads up! I guess I'll be downloading in the morning.
-
Wish I could share info, but again my shop didn't get a midnight release. This is probably for the better though. I technically get more time to play at home before
bringing it towork. -
My download is 33% in, but I won't be able to play much tonight. It'll be nice and ready by tomorrow, though!
-
Got my Switch setup and my BotW special edition out
!
-
Went to midnight release, played about an hour.
The game
! is good
-
Just when I thought it would be safe to watch a simple amiibo video for the game. FUCKING A DUCK.

Let the journey commence…
