RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
Does every part of that description of Kaido apply to him since birth or was it given to him throughout time? Did Kaido have the strongest creature and all those defeats when he fought Oden? People are using the strongest creature "bet on Kaido" description to justify their claim, but leaving out the defeats.
You hear a guy has been defeated, more than any other antagonist shown in their formal introduction, and it doesn't hit you until you see the actual defeat? I have a bad memory, but please remind me if there's an antagonist that we knew within the first chapter of their formal introduction, that had so many defeats known.

Damn. Phase 4 sucks ass.
When they announced Blade, then said he wouldn't be part of the immediate Phase, I cried

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 7 - Wano)
It wasn't going off the deep end at all, you literally said "the only characters I like are…" So I assumed you meant that those are the only characters you like
Btw those 5 you listed. are all pretty awesome
Yes, my wording didn't help. I'm a Zorotard at my core

RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
Infinity Wars and Endgame ended 2 of the characters I care about the most and the tv series are largely covering other characters I'm interested in. I'll see Black Widow, Black Panther, and Guardians 3 for sure, but the rest will have to win me with hype because my investment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is nowhere near as strong now. I've said this before, but I'm somewhat concerned about Guardians and Thor because I hate the idea that Thor comes first and that interesting place we had him in for Guardians won't be explored, regardless of the reasons.
The shows, meanwhile, all look pretty interesting and star characters I already like and feature the storylines that I'm most interested in after Endgame.
Gurdians and Panther won't be in Phase 4. They will be in Phase 5 tho

RE: Chapter 970: Oden Vs Kaido
2 decades without incident and once the time travelers come along, they are almost eradicated. It's 1 of them man. Been saying that Kinemon would cause the most impact, but there would need to be so much connected to go with Kinemon and not Kanjuro or Kiku.

RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
Just saw someone say Oda has lost it. I think he's talking about a different Oda tho
What does it say about the majority of the community when the best reactions come from Roger and WB clashing, but when Oden loses to trickery by Pirates (who have consistently used underhanded tactics), Oda has fallen off in some way?
-
RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
There are multiple reasons for why i'm excited for Phase 4
It's building up to be the first time they successfully connect TV and the movies for their universe. Agents of SHIELD felt a lil more connected than the Netflix shows, but both still felt one sided. WandaVision and Loki are confirmed to have elements that influence Phase 4 plots and they both got their start in MCU movies.
Then, there's the point to address Celestials, Eternals and Deviants. It's more of a cosmic vibe and can further explain many things that happened in the last saga, while getting me prepared for the next saga where those affected by alien resources and tech are more of a common thing. It's like seeing that Haki was prevalent through the first half of the story and then they Oda further explaining the origins before taking us to the next level of it. Not saying this will happen in One Piece, just giving an analogy of why I am already invested in Phase 4
It's not one sided with the characters chosen to lead this Phase. Widow, Eternals, Shang-Chi, Spidey and Thor. They didn't just opt to stay with cemented characters. They mixed it with characters who have never appeared in a movie before. The roster for antagonist and support contain character that i've wanted to see before Iron Man came out.
- Mandarin
- Taskmaster
- Dane
- possibly Nightmare
- possibly Beta Ray Bill

RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
I will always disagree with the notion that a character is devalued once they are defeated or hurt in some capacity. We started the series with the protagonist's idol losing his arm
-
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
So far, there are grievances on 2 fronts. 1 wants it to be sequenced differently, so Kaido is depicted properly for whatever loss he takes later. The 2nd grievance is that the underhanded tactic should've been done differently.
I disagree with both, but I see where it stems from. They both feel like the decision made by Oda will lessen the impact for when Kaido loses. I never went with what the narrator was saying when formerly introducing Kaido because i've always kept in mind that he never made it to Marineford, how he talked to Linlin, the fact that the whole Yonko concept implies a form of stalemate. There are more clues and context that say Kaido isn't what some fans thought he was, but they still chose that way of thinking. The response to this recent chapter is entertaining to watch.

RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
It's a shame the hostage situation even made it to final version. There's plenty of ways in which Oden could have been distracted enough if it really had to happen.
Thanks for the clarity. I was wrong to think the issue was in being underhanded or scheming in general. Didn't know the issue was with how the scheming was executed. If the alternative is for there to be something that Oden hasn't seen before then I get it now
-
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
King messed with BM's ship to get rid of them
Queen uses poisonous weapons and was shown to be
Jack gassed Zou
So many of Kaido's top guys have been shown to be faced with an entity that outmatches them or is just too much of a bother and use tactics that can be categorized in scheming. Yet, Kaido shouldn't be shown to be a schemer for Oden (a Roger Pirate) til after he's been handled at some capacity. I'm still not certain that it was Kaido's order, but it's his guy doing it, so i'll go off the implication. Oden's flashback has to go first and then maybe Kaido's right around whatever happens later. Does he flat out lose or just dealt a decent blow while losing his greatest asset, Wano? I'm not certain about that either. A lot is being left out and i'm guessing that it is on purpose. I'll judge it when it's revealed on if I feel Oda handled the narratives well.
It's like when you subconsciously know something, but then you want to be sheltered from it for entertainment purposes. I get it, but the reality is Oden's flashback has to be shown. A former Rocks Pirate (not the strongest one) can't beat a Roger Pirate straight up and fairly, unless you want inconsistency. Did you expect Kaido to beat Oden fairly or did you not expect their fight to be shown so early?
-
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
I remember Kaido mentioning numbers and that Oden was soft. I took that as Kaido feeling that he didn't have enough men and the soft part meant that Oden cared for the people and that is a weakness

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 7 - Wano)
Wait those are the only characters in the entire series you care about?! First of all those characters are like second tier in terms of character development or importance to the plot or even likability, hell outside of Orochi the other two have done close to nothing the entire series, even in there arc
And why are you still reading the series if you don't like any of the main characters there companions or even there villains?
Like seriously why are you even reading this series?
No, characters that I like from the most recent arcs. Did you not just name a character that you liked from the most recent arcs? My top 5 is
5 Sanji
4 WB
3 Teach
2 Akainu
1 ZoroThanks for going off the deep end tho. Going by the logic you assumed for me, the only character you like is Carrot and you should drop the series if that's the only character you like.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 7 - Wano)
The only characters I like are Streussen, Orochi and Charlotte Madara. I doubt that means any of them will join. I don't understand how that "who i'd prefer" logic applies for nakama possibilities
-
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
Flying Six (only 2 shown) and Numbers are a mystery so far. That guy that held Higurashi has similar pigtails to Jack. If it's Jack's family member, maybe Jack grew up in the Beast Pirates and ascended through the ranks. That can possibly explain why he views King and Queen as older brothers
-
RE: Chapter 970: Oden Vs Kaido
Recently, we've had Doffy and and Law flashbacks for Dressrosa, the Curly Brow Pirates and Jack attack flashbacks for Zou, and Sanji and BM flashbacks for WCI arc. Now that Oden's flashback is close to ending, I can see Kaido's flashback later on that expounds on how he got to Wano, partnered with Orochi, what he owes to Linlin and possibly more on his days in the Rocks crew
-
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
Nope. There are some spot-on guesses floating around though!
Loner,
Really? In what way? It's pretty much exactly what should have happened considering the history we know. 'Expectations' seem to be souring some of the foreign fans these days which is why I don't bother with expectations in the first place. I only think about what can logically transpire in a given scenario knowing OP, Oda, and his current style. Long gone are the days where I expected Usopp to upgrade from a slingshot to a bazooka. (^○^)
I can't see a bazooka, but I can see bug or plant based armor like Heracles. Utility belt and all. Chopper, Luffy and Usopp love the mecha and superhero stuff. Maybe Franky can pull some stuff from the Germa tech or kairoseki in the future

RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
From the first watch, I catch
- 2 carriages meaning Wiccan and Tommy might be introduced
- Sam and Bucky are disagreeing on something and Walker might be the reason
- Zemo on the loose
- Time Variance Authority might be the main antagonist of Loki and this can be a hint for Strange 2. Will they introduce She-Hulk here?

RE: Chapter 970: Oden Vs Kaido
Finally getting to read.
Minatomo just finished the mansion before Kaido came out to fight. Oda is either just covering everything or trying to show me something. I don't know how Kinemon got to know who built it. Maybe it's nothing that I should question, but I will keep it in the back of my head. It can just be that Minatomo is the best or when they come from the future, that info is provided by some allies.
Tho the deal hasn't been fully explained, but this convo confirms that Oden chose the non violent route and was naive enough to think his opponents would hold up their end.
Young Shinobu is dressed like the chick from the Mimawarigumi. It just may be a ninja/police thing
For 3 chapters, i've watched people say "next chapter is the last of the fb". I don't get why some thought that we could spend so much time on the Roger and WB adventures, then speed blitz through the fall of Oden in Wano. I think there might be 2 more chapters at most to close this fb. Next chapter, the Scabbards are saved by Oden, the chapter after is the race to the castle for Toki, Hiyori and Momo.
11 chapters
- 4 chapters to cover Oden's rise and the how his vassals came along
- 4 1/2 ch. as a Pirate
- 2 1/2 ch. so far for the return
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 7 - Wano)
Neko doesn't make sense to me. Seems like someone had his time in some way. Pekoms makes much more sense. Despite his lack of focus, he makes more sense than Neko by a lot
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 7 - Wano)
The same individuals that said Carrot joining made no sense, jumped at the traitor meme that Artur made. Can't take those people seriously.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 7 - Wano)
Carrot being the traitor has been a great meme for a long time
-
RE: Chapter 969: Fool of a Lord
By now, I see the traitor as either misunderstood or just a full blown traitor. If it is the latter, what Oden has kept from his Scabbards or even just what Shinobu witnessed about the deal could warrant keeping the audience in the dark. The missing parts of the deal could be directly linked to the traitor's motives. If there is something misunderstood about the traitor's actions, then his or her's actions are still affixed to Oden's decisions before and after his returns, but then I would assume how Orochi and Kaodo came together is also involved.
There could be 100 reasons why some things are sequenced certain ways or left out to better the impact. Instead, some of the audience are calling a character stupid and they don't even know his motives. When it's revealed, they go "oooooh, why didn't we get this before". Well, timing and flow matter when you want stronger reverberation in the narrative. We're 950 ch. in and some might either suffer from fatigue or just never identified certain patterns. Reminds me of when Luffy encouraged the Udon prisoners and people acted like it was this unusual action for his character

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 7 - Wano)
There's been this subtle thing about uncharted locations. Would Oda tack on 1-2 uncharted locations (outside of the spots already hinted to the audience) for Nami to reach her goal? Would it be cheap for Nami to receive a world map without doing it on her own? She doesn't have to reach every island to achieve her dream. There are places taken off the maps like God Valley and there are places not really known about til recent like Baltigo. They won't have to get there for her to map it. Just her figuring it out would be cool. Especially if others with more experience have failed to do it
I still think that the other 3 Blues might be visited by the crew. Of course we saw Chopper in the South, some members were born in those other spots and Oda has spammed North blue the most through flashbacks, but as a crew, I can see them going there. If not, another Grand Line trip, starting from another Blue before Paradise is more likely

RE: Chapter 969: Fool of a Lord
Somebody roped Kaido in. Highly doubt he knew where Wano was on his own and why didn't he go after Rayleigh? It's obvious because Oden knows the text. That's the difference between Oden and the other Roger Pirates. Whoever told him this info, got him to Wano

-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 7 - Wano)
If you find the One Piece, there's something after that. What is it that the Roger Pirates couldn't accomplish?
Kaido is about to lose Wano, Warlord system done, Elbaf, whatever Im has going on, Sabo, Alabasta, how the Royals deal with each other. So many more things to close up and we have more questions than answers.
The SH crew will have to find the next PG and deal with so much more. Follow that with finding the OP. After that, they're still not done because there's more to it that not even the Roger Pirates achieved.
Post Yonko Saga seems more like a new beginning than the endgame. A weapon that we know nothing about is still out there. At any moment, Oda can get inspired and introduce something that flips the series on it's head. I'm being told that it's impossible to do that because recent statements. I go by the story because what he says to even his wife isn't in stone.

RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
Half staged can mean that they were serious at first, then they staged a part of it for appearances when they felt it was too much of a stalemate. Unless I read it wrong…
It's highly unlikely, but not impossible
-
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
Nope! They're similar looking, but pretty distinct from one another.
https://i.imgur.com/KQ0kT31.png https://i.imgur.com/VDU39GV.pngAside from the bridge weirdness, everything that's shown about the journey could take place in a single trip through the Grand Line. Even the island where they met more closely resembles the chapter 140 colour spread, which we could take to mean that it's somewhere in the area of Drum or Alabasta. They go from there to Jaya to Skypiea to Water Seven to the actual Rusukaina, to the bridge, to Sabaody and onward through Fishman Island as shown. If it was meant to be a montage for a longer time I would have expected more detours to the blues, or more things out of place. But would also completely buy that Roger could just go straight through the Calm Belts and visit wherever if he wanted to.
Thanks for correcting me on this. All this time, I thought this was Rusukaina and they are clearly different.
-
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
I'm confused on how seeing the bridge is weird. Didn't Roger and Oden meet on Rusukaina? If they can go from Calm Belt Islands to Grand Line Islands, why can't they go from East Blue locations to the Grand Line and back. They weren't amateurs like the SH crew. They had over 10 years of experience and were in their prime

RE: Oda's Interviews
Being able to write this story weekly, while keeping the larger plot in mind, give input for anime, movies and a live action show gotta be ridiculous. This is partially why I don't get frustrated when there's a break week. Not saying all chapter breaks mean Oda's on break. His schedule now seems enough to keep him active tho.
I remember 3 years ago, on the Discord server, saying that it would be dope for Oda to take a year off and people were LIVID lol
Ideal for me:
- no chapter for a year and just because there's no chapter, doesn't mean he's not working on it
- no anime for the first 3 quarters of the year
- return the next year with 2 chapters in February
- back to the regular schedule
-
RE: New MANGA Plus service from Shueisha (global, legal, simul, free, English releases)
Being aware of it and being able to do something about it are two different beasts that, in Japan, require facts, numbers, and voices in order to start change. It's not easy, but it's not for lack of want to advance.
Yet, they choose to eliminate the source that can provide the product for groups that lack those numbers. Those same sources that have helped the fanbase grow. Allowing the illegal sources to continue would, in a way, help those numbers and voices increase.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 7 - Wano)
Outside of Brook and Jinbei, Nami and Usopp are the closest to being "pirates" before joining. The last 2 members have been really experienced and Oda may or may not continue this pattern. Out of the 4 possible next nakama, I feel like Pekoms has the most pirate experience.
Carrot - Was a pirates for less than a week
Pekoms - been a BM pirate for long time
Raizo - was never a pirate
Kiki - same as Raizo -
RE: DC Movies Thread - Shazam saves the day
I get what you're saying about something like One Piece or Baby Driver, i.e. unique works of fiction that are based solely on the creative vision of their creator can be considered more of a passion project then something like the MCU, but I wasn't arguing against that any way. I was simply saying that it's wrong to deny the Marvel movies any sort of creative vision or passion behind the scenes. There are people working on these films who are passionate about the characters and the stories. Imho it's also wrong to generally state the creators aren't represented when you have the Guardians films or Thor 3 which quite clearly carry their director's personal handwriting. Of course, you might argue that some of the Marvel films lack any personal creative passion and I'd definitely agree, but that's besides the point, because Scorsese didn't care to differentiate either between the different movies. And guess what, who were the creative people most hurt by his comments? Marvel directors like James Gunn or Joss Whedon who actually are passionate about their MCU movies and suddenly had one of their idols badmouthing their work for no real reason other that they weren't his cup of tea.
Ragnarok is a great example. I agree and disagree that he's badmouthing their work. He sees how they're cornering the market and that can make most movie goers be less open to other kind of films. Scorsese is simply bitter, but right on many points. He's generalizing them and that shows the bitterness, but some of the generalizations stem from the truth of many of the movies being generic. The response to what he says has proven him right. Many are blindly refuting things he has said with "oh you're old and don't know anything". At the same time, saying a movie isn't a movie doesn't make sense. I don't care how many people revere your work. Saying any of the comic book movies "aren't cinema" is wrong.

RE: New MANGA Plus service from Shueisha (global, legal, simul, free, English releases)
The urgency to adapt or deliver on things of this nature is different when there are others giving people translations illegally. Manga Plus started in 2019. Why? They've had digital platforms since 2012, so they were well aware of the market overseas. If i'm not mistaken, the reason is that there isn't enough of a demand in some markets. Where should these individuals go for it?
I didn't say and did not try to imply that they will never provide responses or deliver on what people want. I spoke on the luxury that the official providers have due to possibly being the only source one day, so they can take as long as they want compared to if they had to compete with illegal scans when it was at it's height.
I've seen other responses from that same MP account that are less polite and encourage piracy policing which is very hypocritical because a lot of those same individuals either started from an illegal source or have made use of it before.
That last paragraph is my main issue. many readers had a source with some of the illegal scans and now they have to "organize and intensify pressure" to get what they want from the official providers lol. I hope they do get what they want. There isn't a group for everyone tho. Hence why having other sources is a benefit. A reader of illegal scans mostly makes their way to paying for what they like in the long run.
The minority groups that don't have a voice are the ones that suffer and many of you are proud of this. You encourage this when you say that those with the voice should get what they want and those that aren't organized should not touch illegal scans and should just wait until the official providers feel there is "enough demand".
I am well-versed on business and how an entity can say "don't read illegally, but wait for us to give you the official". I pay for my volumes , but I won't justify their practice or advocate like many of those that they choose to campaign for them. Everyone knows the guys that are fans that get picked to promote these companies and become almost puppet like

RE: Chapter 968: Oden's Return
To be fair he has shown way way waaay more interest in killing himself, finding buff dudes and building whacky animal hybrids to alleviate his boredom than he has ever shown in OP.
Kaido wants to kill himself and even implied that WB did it right. BM wants less discrimination. I think the weapons, military might and even the One Piece are ways to reach those goals. The WG are always trying to get in the way of those after the OP. I can see the WG not caring anymore about Kaido's goal to kill himself because they have possibly tried and can't kill him. So he just tries other ways now

RE: Chapter 968: Oden's Return
The flashback starts after the Scabbards were shown to be in a horrible position, but they were still pushing because of their leader Oden. We go through their beginnings and some of their highs and lows. The narrative either ends up propping up Orochi because he has the upper hand in the current situation or it is giving us context for a triumph that is about to occur for the Scabbards. Maybe because the WB and Roger stuff is distracting, some forget the narrative, but what they are up against and how this all came to be is needed context. Maybe someone is reading his logs and this is what Kaido is after.
As far as whether the audience earned the revelations or not, I partially agree. This is a long series and this feels like Oda paying those who've been patient (fan service as you noted). I don't feel like I needed this or that it's at 80%, but many are more engaged and might feel at ease now.
There are many things that we didn't know
We didn't know that VOAT was used by Roger to locate Poneglyphs beforehand. We still don't know how VOAT exactly works. Is it everything that we've seen performed by Shirahoshi to Momo, Roger and Oden? We haven't seen Oden say that he can hear voices from the PG, he is just shown to understand the text because it comes from his family. I haven't seen the capability to hear the different creatures confirmed as VOAT yet. VOAT being both about hearing from PGs and creatures is the matter and until it is confirmed like the ability that only Roger has shown, it's still assumption.
We didn't know that Franky met Oden. This might be addressed later on. Franky has shown to have a soft side for characters like Oden. Maybe this ties into a narrative that he has going forward
We didn't know how Orochi initially started on his mission to be Shogun. We now have this family conflict and another individual who has been outside of Wano
2nd Division commander was kind of useless to know, but still nice info
Overall, there is a lot of fan service, but if you aren't easily distracted, there's a narrative being addressed and built up. We have a 5 year gap after whatever happens here where Oden doesn't die. Does Oden cut Kaido here and kaido leaves? Does Oden lose here and is captured? What was Neko and Inu arguing over? What is Denjirou really doing in the flashback and current time? What is the prophecy and why did it change from opening borders to opening borders before Joy Boy returns?
-
RE: New MANGA Plus service from Shueisha (global, legal, simul, free, English releases)
This is why having multiple sources is better. They're gonna find a way to stop illegal scans indefinitely and then they'll be the one and only source. They get to take as long as they want to answer to things of this nature and give people what they want. Not saying that it's easy to translate to the Arabic language. As i've said a million times, illegal scans has helped the fan base grow despite the faults in translation. Having multiple sources and ways to become a manga fan is what the piracy police force ignore
