@Razh Barely? He got to experience those with similar values to Ryuma. Onimaru and Yasuie. How they chose to defend and hold up Wano and what is considered their treasure.
Onimaru was down to die for those blades and Yasuie was going to die for the mission.
Through that, he continued on his usual path and applied what it meant to his conflict. The last thing he said was that "if I keep exuding it at this level, it'll kill me... but no that's perfect".
Gotta be willing to die to protect your treasure. Same thing happened against Daz with the theme of death.
Nami, against her own safety, helping Zeus. Robin becoming okay with being a monster devil for those she cares about. Sanji being okay with becoming science project if it means helping Luffy and the crew.
This combination of Zoro's connection to Wano through principles and not doing it with a "oh yeah, this is your cousin and this is your 4th aunt, so you should know you are special".
Oda went in the right direction here.
- He continued Zoro's journey and connected it to values, instead of overdoing the lineage aspect
- showed multiple examples in how far characters are willing to go via Onimaru and Yasuie who just so happen to technically be Zoro's kin
