RE: Jujutsu Kaisen
I suggest you and anyone who is very unhappy about it to stop paying for the service if you think they do a bad job and don't deserve your cash. Somewhere I think you only wish they did a better job as the official media, but if it's upsetting people I think it'd make sense to stop paying* considering you have access to read TCB for free anyway. You've obtained the "real knowledge and experience" from the TCB version, nothing from the JJK lore was missed.
*edit - and peruse MangaPlus

RE: Jujutsu Kaisen
Out of curiosity, can you explain? It's all JJK fans keep saying weekly without examples. Vocal readers seem more focused about being a QA or editor about the translations instead of talking about the actual chapter, which I think is a little ironic? Okay, people are expressing dissatisfaction, but to go spam Viz to get the translator fired over it when there's a whole team involved, that's the WTF part for me.
I'm a casual reader and I'm not going to pretend I know Gojo to the hip to realize something was off in his 2-page exposition to the reader about why he can't use Black Flash.

RE: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
I heard about that one, but thought the newest patch addressed it. I’m glad I didn’t run into the issue at all. I hope people decided to move on with the story and come back to it via chapter select for completion's sake.

Thanks for posting what that was. I saw the series was recently updated but as usual I couldn’t tell what was the new update.

Gears and Gambits is the worst mini-game. Even the developers were like, "Yeah, we know this mini-game sucks, so here's an optimization option you can use and we won't penalize you for it."
It wasn't my favorite either but I wondered if it tickled the people who adored the FF12 gambit system way more than I ever did.
The Avalanche story behind it was a real bittersweet treat though yeah.

RE: Detective Conan (Case Closed)
I'm shocked and was pumped at the thought of being able to see M27 relatively soon, but did they really skip over Bride of Halloween and Black Iron Submarine? I think it's going to be a thing where it'll be in theaters everywhere except North America, haha

Not a bug, but was there any change in the “something technical I don’t really understand” of the forum? Since yesterday I can’t access it anymore using my wireless internet
There has been routine IP bans for aggressive IPs (most confirmed to be bots) that have been pounding the server and causing it to run slow, even now. Could you DM me your public IP while wireless so I can see if it got caught?

RE: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
So I need to preface all this with my background with things:
- I never played a DMC game before so FF16 didn't bother me (I also like the CB3 crew because of FF14)
- I never played an Ubisoft game before so botw/totk/Rebirth towers didn't bother me
- I never saw a Marvel movie when it was doing the multiverse stuff
I absolutely loved my time with this game. I guess compared to a lot of others I don't really play a lot of games so I got the chance to be in complete awe about things that a lot of other people might already be tired of. I also never finished Remake on PS4, but it's not like I hated the game. The idea of a FF7 remake was a dream come true and the combat was a breath of fresh air after FF15. I basically went on break right before going to Shinra HQ, and I didn't really believe all these murmurs of the game actually being a "stealth sequel" yet because it didn't make sense for it to be where I stopped. I've had people hinting there was something weird at the end and wanted to know my thoughts on it, but I never got to it...
I had Rebirth preordered when it was possible to but I never imagined the effect the game would have on me, to break me out of a depressed mindset that I thought was my normal and rekindle the FF7 love. I got end credits in 76 hours after spending whatever time I wanted to spend with sidequests. I was impressed to see so many minigames (which became a surprise to see as a "major" complaint online) and the amount of work that was put into the whole game made me appreciate the fanservice. I immediately went back to Remake, this time on the PS5 because of the twin pack, and finished the game where I left off. I looked for clues to connect the dots, while also noticing how unoptimized my party was because Rebirth made me better at combat, so it's like I got blasted with 2 waves of awe in reverse order.
Since then I've been checking out other people going through the story beats while I casually go through hard mode. I went to check out Advent Children again. So yeah it's been really fun, I'm happy the game exists and I really look forward to part 3.
(This scene means so much more now after Rebirth) -
RE: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
You guys are always so shy about making a new thread.
I finished the Rebirth demo and thought it was wonderful. I weirdly didn't finish Remake and stopped right before Shinra HQ, guess I felt satisfied? Or I got mad about the chocobo sidequest? I moved it over to PS5 now so I'm going to finish it up and play the Yuffie DLC before the end of the month. Maybe get a quick replay in to see the PS5 enhancements.

I don't even know where to start at the sheer idiocy of this.
I'm getting way too old for this and the creeping thought if this is where we are all headed bugs me so I'll try not to think about it anymore and enjoy the little things in life.I have similar thoughts, and it's wild to see so many people come out to argue like:
- "it's moral to steal from a bad company"
- "it's not plagiarism because it's not 1:1"
- "pokemon didn't create the concept of [animal]"
- "there's 1000 pokemon, you're bound to overlap"
- "nintendo/pokemon fanboy bootlicker lmao"
A lot of the same parroting in different spaces. Did they skip school where they teach you that can't just change some words of an essay and call it yours
This recent video covers this kind of topic too.
I wondered if some of it was also boiling down to whether someone needed to have any artistic bone in their body to understand that you can't stumble into a lot of the same design choices and pretend there wasn't tracing involved.
Do you guys remember when this was a thing?
As a side, one thing I haven't seen in the discussion about the Primarina/Azurobe hair coincidentally having the exact same wisps and bumps is that I think it also coincidentally takes from a shiny Suicune:
(ribbons and dark blue light body palette)
(hair)
(tail bead)

An interesting thread regarding what is the problem with Palworld (and addressing people saying Pokémon plagiarized Dragon Quest because they had monsters based on similar concepts):
There is also an interview linked where the producers stated they designed their own models, but by now there are many model comparisons around the internet showing multiple Pal models fit Pokémon models down to every polygon, which is basically impossible to happen by chance.
I read it was a newly graduate character designer who churned out their 100 critters. The team apparently didn't know what a "rig" was. Recently even denied inspiration from Pokemon?* It kinda feels bad to see this sort of stuff get celebrated because "game is actually good" and "gamefreak sucks."
*Oops, pardon me, it has been said elsewhere that it was not their main inspiration
I would like to see the source interview on this one but this is floating around now too:

So, without going into too much detail, please just a short yes or no.
I'll answer one like this:
So are we really still into Operation Strix with Anya trying to get all the Stella or properly befriend Damien?
There are the mini stories that feel like filler but overall I don't feel as though the reset button gets pressed often like Gintama does (to those unfamiliar, there's mini arcs that even the anime can shuffle around easily until the point of no return). It may feel like it but there's some progression in minor steps while having the usual world and character building.
Some examples:
So I think other than the usual wholesome moments, it feels like some pieces are falling together as a setup for something big to come.

RE: How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?
@electricmastro said in How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?:
Is that implying that you don’t want would-be adventurers to sail with Luffy and that you’d maximize your own arguments by claiming the series will run shorter because of impossibilities? lol
Uh, I'm implying that I'm trusting what I perceived as facts given to me in the story which was reinforced by what Oda said outside of the story, and it seemed odd to me how much you were pushing back on that by calling it "impossibilities" when the things you're responding with are "I don't think Luffy wants to limit his crew" and "the characters could change their minds lol" and "what Oda said might not apply to the works lol"
If it turns out exactly the way you thought it would, that's cool, you ended up being right. The main point I'm trying to make is that at this time it's reasonable to believe what's been said and believe that there won't be 2+ more mates and that many more arcs on top of the remaining plot points.
The total crew number is a reasonable variable that helps answer the thread's topic. This isn't about me and who I want in the crew.
-
RE: How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?
@electricmastro said in How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?:
That's the thing, it can be looked at as word of god, or death of the author, as it's possible for an author's words outside a work to not apply what's inside that work, so yeah, there's that possibility, in addition to the possibility of someone changing their mind.
Hey, I know how much it means to you to keep the dream alive for all your favorites to be in the crew, but you can't just play devil's advocate and wave away arguments not in your favor by saying "it's a possibility" to everything, lol.
-
RE: How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?
@electricmastro said in How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?:
I don't think Luffy gives a crap what he contradicts, just so long as he has fun with the people he wants to be with. lol
I want to be clear that we're agreeing that he's at 9/10 and that speculating who the last person is fair game, which tying back to the thread at hand, there is still a little road ahead of us for it before One Piece ends.
What I'm commenting about now is your insistence that this number can be ignored because:
"I don't think Luffy gives a crap about what he contradicts"
But you posted that word of god said "crew of 10" last year in an interview. Isn't that enough proof on what to expect? Wouldn't it be unrealistic to think that a character he wrote will ignore that?
-
RE: How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?
@electricmastro said in How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?:
Well Luffy could have changed his mind anyway, so no harm in thinking Luffy will go over 10 if you ask me. If there is, I'd like to see the proof.
So now that I saw that Brook was declared to be "the 8th", I'm open to the idea that there's one more, be it Vivi or whoever. Oda at the time created an expectation for the readers that the main cast would be 10 including or total 11 not including. There were two ways to interpret it, no harm there. But you don't think that Luffy wants to limit his crew and you think he's open as long as he likes them even if it contradicts his initial statement. Do we know that for sure? I can't do a whole re-read right now but that would help to know if he specified something.
Unfortunately the only person who knows if Luffy "could have changed his mind" is Oda, but afaik he hasn't clarified or amended anything about it so that line's kinda the only thing to go by.
-
RE: How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?
For the sake of staying on topic, I estimate we're in the last quarter of OP, however many years left that translates to. No math for me right now.
@electricmastro said in How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?:
Luffy mentioned at least 10. If he included himself, then wouldn't he have said "me and 9 other people!"? lol
If we want to go there, he technically didn't say "at least 10" or even "around 10" in text.
"Gather/collect a group first."
「まずは仲間集めだ」
"I want 10 people!!"
「10人はほしいなァ!!」10 in the group, or gather 10 people. If the latter, then it certainly seems like there's room for 1 more, or was Klabautermann included after all!?
EDIT: I had a little too much fun researching for this post but it seems the One Piece magazine creates suspense about realizing his ideal number after Jinbe was the 9th. That confirms one more huh?
If you'll allow me to have a small rabble and a small nostalgia trip...
Back in Water 7 we used to have debates here on whether Merry counted and which number Nami was considered to be, but now that a lot's happened, we can review:
- Chapter 6: The First = Zoro
- Chapter 68: The Fourth = Sanji
- Chapter 94: The Second = Nami
- Chapter 439: The Third and Seventh = Usopp and Franky
- Chapter 489: The Eighth = Brook
That makes Jinbe the 9th to join BUT the 10th member of the...
ICHIMI (一味)
- clan; partisans; conspirators; gang; ring; crew
NAKAMA (仲間)
- company; fellow; colleague; associate; comrade; mate; group; circle of friends; partner
- member of the same category
I went into a rabbit hole just now learning that apparently the ship captain is not considered part of the ship crew. But does Luffy's "nakama" (or the straw hat "ichimi") here follow these semantics? What a mystery!!

RE: General Anime Discussion Thread
I just saw the new opening, I'm really impressed to see an opening full of creativity and effort that you'd normally see for shorter cour series. I'm always impressed by the ones with credits flying and integrated with the animation like that. I think it's my favorite One Piece opening in a long time!
-
RE: How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?
If people are having fun on imagining a what-if then that's cool, but the line gets so blurry for me in online discussions when the word crewmate gets used. What I'm getting at is, when people are genuinely hoping and predicting who the next crewmate is, are we talking in the context of who's permanently joining the main crew (and will be a part of every anime opening, movie, merchandising of the straw hats, and video game going forward) or who's joining as the temporary, but VIP ally for that arc/saga?
Luffy's got his 10 that he announced since day 1 so I'm always confused, I think a greater number of main cast to keep track of until the end makes it that much harder to tell a story unless you always create situations to split them up into multiple groups.
-
RE: How much time do you think is left before One Piece ends?
I don’t understand why another “on the ship” crewmate is always under consideration. Do you mean one in spirit like Vivi is? Isn’t the crew already at Luffy’s 10?
- Luffy
- Zoro
- Usopp
- Sanji
- Nami
- Chopper
- Robin
- Franky
- Brook
- Jinbe
At one point even Merry was perceived to be a member but with Jinbe we can scratch that or say Merry was counted as a “death”. Or are people hoping that Luffy is either not counting himself or is making exceptions for an 11th?

AI is a bizarre move. I haven't gotten around to trying it myself, but I think I'd be personally okay if it helped me do mundane repetitive work I've already done a ton, assisted with starter templates to get me going faster, or helped give me hints or ideas to get me out of a creative block. Not as a complete replacement. I'm not a fan of this AI video...

Might be unpopular opinion - but I really want a completely new voice cast, sub and dub. No offense to current voice actors, I love all of them, especially the dub. But for the REMAKE, I want completely new interpretations. If we have the same voices, the line reads will inherently be similar. I really want them to completely go all in on this being new new.
Some good points. I feel like I never see the odd outrage when it comes to One Piece (I guess it’s been mostly video games where an entire cast gets changed) but I have a feeling this would be the thing that breaks the camel’s back.

@Kfunk said in One Piece anime remake by Wit Studio:
I know people that are interested in One Piece but don’t feel like getting into a 2 decades old series with over 1000 episodes, this is good.
Agreed, I'm hoping that it's not like... a Chopper movie "what-if" or a FF7R re-imagining. My first thought of seeing that initial art was "uh oh, Luffy's hometown was actually a single windmill the whole time"
Some time ago, I showed a friend Episode of East Blue as a kind of "sell" (it didn't help that friend is always so limited on time) and since then we were filling in the gaps with the regular episodes until the crew started the adventure in Alabasta. I had been evaluating the "Episodes of" in the same vein, and Episode of Nami was great, but I felt that ones like the Alabasta movie, Chopper what-if movie, and the Episode of Skypiea went through the material too fast or changed too much for a first-time viewer. We honestly hadn't moved an inch since the first episode of Alabasta so... if the stars lined up again this remake would be awesome to show.
So it's okay to express if this announcement isn't for you, or you're not the type to enjoy this sort of thing. It may be an unpopular opinion, it may not be. Same whole shtick with why live action and video games remakes and remasters happen.
With how little we know, I still welcome this kind of project while we still have the people on this earth.
