I'm genuinely curious about why you think they are counterparts.
It's bc Robin facing off against ugliness in the manga in the manga… If Robin were to fight her counterpart... Bb would be her opponent bc of archeology

I'm on the Robin vs Vasco Shot train till it dies!:ninja:
Lol true, I would take his Devil Fruit in another person though, since we know DF’s can be stolen
But I doubt that will happen
And Sir Crocodile would be my preferred choice but there’s no way Luffy would ever let him join
what other Logia's are left? Can anyone think of an example that hasn't been used?
Going with the missing 2.9 pattern.. the jiku jiku no mi or the stem stem fruit could work
Just give Yamato two club style and be done with it, lol :ninja:
As for Carrot, I still don't the narrative appeal for her to be a main character especially when her presence has just been next to nil for awhile. All I really see is a marketable character.
I think it's enough that he's already called "Pirate Hunter", that includes the Worst Generation, so… :ninja:
Obviously about to add 'Dragon Hunter' to his resume :ninja:
It's hard to ignore the possibility of Oda offscreening the Perospero vs Carrot and Wanda clash… Especially when he offscreened Ussops and Nami's round one loss to P1 and Ulti.
Damn, I didn't even notice the koi coming AFTER Luffy announced himself. Consider me pretty convinced of the speculation!
Syphin, Robby, Doboro really hit my line thinking with Yamato.
I can't add much, but I'm sure Ace raved about Luffy during his stay on Wano however since Yamato wanted to travel with Ace, I'm sure shedidn't completely buy into Luffy at the time. I'm pretty positive the buy in must've been when Ace's death happened, Yamato probably witnesses it and all of Luffy's actions, that's probably what started it. Just my conjecture on it.
Also if Yamato is somehow connected to the weird Shanks and Kaidou clash from Amazon Lily, there's your foreshadow, big 'if' though.
It feels like Kaworu just stomped on a corpse… Multiple times with that post..
One of the most relevant aspects to Yamato's character is her being aware of Luffy for over three years since her encounter with Ace. Yamato has known about Luffy longer than any of the other Straw Hat Pirates. Back when she met Ace, Yamato wanted to join him on his ship but was overwhelmed by fear to make the leap. Ever since that moment, she has been waiting for Luffy, confident that he will arrive in Wano Kuni. Yamato has shown belief in Luffy for three years without even having directly met him. And along with using "Oden" as a source of strength to keep her fears at bay, she has also relied on the eventual meeting with Luffy as a "hope" to continue forward. Contrary to how Kaido views Luffy, Yamato has fate that Luffy is able to defeat her father and assist in opening the borders of Wano Kuni. I don't think such a belief can be discounted so easily.
Not only has Yamato been waiting for Luffy but as illustrated in this chapter (996) she has been conscientiously following their journey. Yamato is aware of the Straw Hat Pirate members, their nicknames and their bounties. Even their recent actions within Dressrosa, Yamato knows about it. Normally that may not be so impressive but this is Wano Kuni we are talking about, a closed border country where very little information about the outside world enters. Yamato did not freely come across such information. She likely had to put in serious effort to acquire any newspapers or information brought in from the outside world by the Beast Pirates. Such commitment from Yamato regarding the Straw Hat Pirates expresses her interest, esteem and admiration for and in them. The extent to which Yamato is "involved" only adds to Yamato's importance and potential chances in joining the Straw Hat Pirates because it reduces the amount of time needed for Yamato to familiarise herself with the Straw Hat Pirates, their adventures and their objectives. Yamato can hit the ground running as a Straw Hat Pirate if need be (important at this stage of the story).

For someone who is so in awe at individuals who lead adventurous lives and in the stories detailing such, I honestly cannot see Yamato remaining on Wano Kuni after the arc. Whether it is through the Straw Hat Pirates, as a representative of Momonosuke (Wano Kuni) or as a mere adventurer, Yamato will journey outside the border of Wano Kuni and explore the world. The wonders that reinforced her conviction and expanded her dreams will ultimately have substance added to.And if Yamato does end up joining the Straw Hat Pirates, Ace would be indirectly responsible for such an outcome by inspiring Yamato with his stories of Luffy. As if a final gift from Ace, a new friend he was able to introduce to his little brother from three years ago. Just as Luffy has become closely connected to Tama because of her relation to Ace, the same is happening with Luffy and Yamato.
Narratively, there is just so much going for Yamato. Her potential is immense and my excitement for her is only growing the more Oda focuses on her. To know we have more on her past (mother), trauma, darkness, relations (Marco and Kaido), attack style (she will wield a sword/swords), transformation and dream (adventure, dawn, freedom) to look forward to, how marvelously exhilarating.
As for Yamato's design, I also find it appealing. Personally, I would have preferred if Yamato had a more monstrous/non-human design (like Monet whose design I love). But with Oda teasing the readers to a potential transformation from Yamato, I really do wonder if Oda has a more beastly design for Yamato already planned. I also look forward to Big Mom's meeting with Yamato. They haven't met yet but when she meets Yamato, will Yamato's appearance and unique race (part Ancient Giant? Oni?) appeal to Big Mom's fascination such as with the non-human Straw Hat Pirate members (Brook, Jinbe, Chopper, Franky).
I have been entertaining the possibility that Who's Who has the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Pawpawsaurus (following the neko theme Who's Who has going and the dinosaur theme the Tobiroppo has). For Sasaki, the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Torosaurus.
This was very nice to read. I'll just add that Yamato probably watched Ace die from Onigashima.
Oda could also stay true to the Hannya theme as well which I'm okay with as well.
That's a character I hadn't heard of in a long time! And now I'm hopeful…. lmao
I would think for the Tiger fruit to work, it would have some sort of mane/fluffy neck, long hannya like fangs that jut our or something, and horns. I think if Oda finds the balance, it would look visually stunning.
Honestly, with each chapter, Yamato's face has become distinguishable and you can tell Oda is putting in the effort. I believe they're more distinguishable and will will continue to be as the arc gets closer to the end. So, with all the effort to push them in the front, I'm fully on board.
Did that not apply to Nikyu? No idea how that works in Japanese and the different characters.
Interestingly Ni(2) Kyu(9), Kin's fruit Fu(2) Ku(9), Tamas possible Tsu(2) Ku(9) are all Luffy's friends.
Luffy- Check
Franky-Check
Now who's the next Strawhat Yamato will interact with?
Does the child of an enemy yonkou count? :ninja:

Actually I have a headcanon where Kaido is beating the crap out of Yamato with his club, then Luffy suddenly shows up and blocks the next hit. Then the talk goes like this:
- Luffy: Stop hitting them.
- Kaido: It's my child. I need to punish them for disobeying me! They are staying here and becoming shogun of Wano for me!
- Luffy: They are not part of your crew anymore.
- Kaido: Oh yeah? And whose crew they are in now?
- Luffy: MINE!
This is now my headcanon. Thank You, haha!!
The only person that regularly gets referred as "My Lord" is Orochi (not counting Momonosuke, who is somewhere else entirely).
The Beasts Pirates themselves use "Master" or no honorrific at all for the higher ups, at least in Stephen's translation.
Rest assured. Sabertooths weren't tigers. They were closer to marsupials.
That's a common mistake.
I… what.... Okay, I looked this up and now my world view on sabretooths have flipped....:wassat:
At this point, right or wrong, I'm all in on Yamato. When I voted, I simply voted on impression, but now… 100% in.
I vote for Orochi, or should I say a new Orochi Personality??:ninja:
Anyways, a pretty good chapter. Banking on Yamato being a white tiger and I'm riding this Yamato train haha.
Law finding a new motivation is great to see.
Big Mom about to ruin the Scabbards already crappy day, great!
He already did, he double down on the mayor to make the joke reality not only providing the the plaque for the station but willing-full donating 50K to charities in the city if accepted.
Yooo that's awesome
I'm still waiting for him to address that :D
How do you come back from that? lol That video from the Danbury Mayor video was comedy gold.
To anybody who lives in Danbury (or Connecticut in general), you have been CHALLENGED:
They named a sewage plant after him lmao
I'd vote for Tama if I had second vote xD
I gotcha back Solid
Yooo, dancer? Like the typical jrpg class? That could be awesome. I know armamenthero talked about Yamato and dancing before.
Yeah, since Kaidou's and Yamato's battle move is a Taoism/Feng Shui thing, there is a dance that could be used as a unique form for fighting
So Yamato started to admire Oden when she was 3 years old? Lol
Rather this is true or not, we're getting a flashback at the very least
First off, kudos to that prediction of yours. I wasn't around for those discussions, so I never knew how heavy they were.
Boa Hancock doesn't strike me as a character that would join simply bc her existence is that important to the Kuja. But we'll, the story is going into full throttle mode, so anything's possible now.
Is possible, we didn't see much of Oden dancing around places and by that time Yamato was a free child rooming Wano.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The main issue was Hancock, most people were convinced Hancock was going to join(cause she was going to die if Luffy left her, lmao).
So every other argument against Jinbro during Fishmen Island(by the time Hancock was left behind and did not die, extra lmao), really was mostly a baby crying attitude from being wrong.
Eh, people thought Hancock was going to join back then? I thought with her responsibilities and attachment with the Kuja pirates and island that would disqualify her pretty quickly
Brook found a poneglyph and dolls beneath the Shoguns castle. Each of the Strawhats have been shown doing stuff, might've been more minor, but they have been shown doing stuff integral to this arc.
That was a VERY INTERESTING conversation to say the least.
Yeah, I'd say the nickname thing isn't a big deal right now, but if he keeps saying "Yamao" than that is something of note.
I'm holding onto my hopes of one of the BB pirates getting it or BB himself… At the very least it fits their theme more.
sees people talking about Greg lurking here
Dang, where'd you go Greg?!
Anyway, my guy feeling tells me that Yamato is going to have a unique backstory and that log book is going to be used to showcase his character.
I wasn't around here when Jinbe was first introduced, but I remember thinking "Wow, this guy seems pretty cool" and as the story progressed, the more I liked him and saw signs of a special bond between luffy and him. By the time of the great speech by Jimbe to get Luffy out of his funk, I was 1000% sold on him staying in the story as a main protagonist.
Everything about Jinbe was very compelling from his words, his thinking, and his actions, I was 100% invested into the guy.
In every arc Jimbe was involved in, he was quite the focal point and had very clear personal stakes in each of them. And each time, you felt the weight of his character. No Carrot doesn't need a ridiculous amount of characterization, we just need to explore her character in depth to make her really 'shine' per say.
Fair enough. I'm expecting she'll get more focus after the other Minks have their shot, but we'll see.
I'll just put this on record. My opinion can/will change if Carrot does get that type of focus that's hard to ignore.
Thank you for the discussion, it was fun, and eye opening.
And I'm not saying they don't have feelings. What I'm saying is that Carrot does set herself apart by how she reacts to certain things vs how others do, precisely because she's young and not as worldly experienced as everyone else on the crew has become. Here's an example of what I'm talking about:
Besides Luffy from the prior page, Carrot's the only other person excited by the prospect of climbing up a dangerous waterfall. Everyone else is reacting out of practicality.
That is an interesting panel, but I wonder if that if that really sets her apart, personality wise? Even Chopper, with his gags, has shown a level of thinking, perspectives, and emotions that make you really feel the emotional weight that character has in different situations that challenge them, just like the other crew mates. Carrot is missing that type of aspect at this point, for me.
This is just my interpretation of a character's progression through the story.
I can't help, but also say the times Carrot has been put on the back burner, I really felt her overall presence was thin. Really, kind of a mixed bag, honestly.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Thanks, I'm re-reading it right now. I see that Pekoms explained Sulong to Luffy, but we didn't see any reaction from Luffy when Pekoms actually transformed. Maybe Oda didn't want to spend panels on something that was already known by the readers, or maybe he's leaving Luffy's reaction for the current battle, either with the minks above the dome or Carrot.
Yeah, which is why these upcoming events are crucial for Carrot's character.
I mean that she actually shows excitement about things. Zoro, Robin, Franky and Jinbe are pretty much too cool to show much overt excitement about most things, Sanji only does it for ladies, and Brook, Usopp, Chopper and Nami are more likely to be freaked out by crazy stuff. Luffy has been traditionally the only one to relish the thought of danger with stars in his eyes, but we've seen that Carrot's all for that, like licking her lips to fight the sea king in Tottoland, or being visually thrilled going up Wano's waterfall.
I actually disagree, I think each of the Strawhats do have a youthful optimism to them. They all have certain things they get excited for, react to it, and relish in it. While yes, some of them have exaggerated fear takes, that also doesn't take away anything from them because it's more of a gag and doesn't completely define their characters.
With all due respect, Carrot just doesn't have the other differentiating aspects to her that define her as a 'unique' individual. At least not 'yet' tbf, I really need see and feel that moment of characterization, what are her thoughts, motivations, etc at this current part of the story, something "I' think is missing.
I hope I explained myself well enough.
I need to re-read it, but did Pekoms explain Sulong to Luffy? I remember his plan was to transform so Luffy could escape Cacao Island. Did Luffy see Pekoms transformed? I can’t remember.
Chapter 897, he did kind of and transformed, but Luffy didn't say anything really about it.
While I'm really hyped for the Sulong Showtime, and I find no reason not to enjoy it in the manga. I gotta say its going to look horrible in the anime that all of them turn entirely white, that'll make Carrot look the exact same as the others, specially the females(or only Wanda really).
And das no gud for a character that already doesn't have great details in her design.
Interesting that this is brought up. There's two things i'm interested in with SuLong coming:
1)Is Carrot going to transform with the other minks?
2)What's Luffy's reaction to it?
If Luffy says anything along the lines of "Cool, it's like Chopper's trnasformations""I wonder if Chopper can do it too?!", Just a lack of acknowledgement of some sort would be really telling.
Eh, imo, Carrot feels really bland and piggybacks Choppers which doesn't really help to differentiate her. Each of the Strawhats have a youthful optimism to them, but they also have traits that make them feel very vivid in their actions, words, etc. Carrot hasn't done that for me.
I don't know about that…. God Ussop above all:ninja:
I personally don't like the idea of taking a unique aspect from one character, just to introduce another character with those aspects, that's just detrimental to Chopper, imo.
Chopper has been severely underutilized up to this point. I really liked Chopper pre-time skip, the little guy was just so cool watch do stuff…
Im hoping the reason why Choppers jump point was removed is because he will get his own Sulong inspired form soon.
Chopper, A bi-pedal reindeer doctor who uses these Rumble Balls that affect the wavelength of his DF, surely he has capability to study the Minks and Su Long to acquire it himself.
Man, we need Chopper do some stuff with his super cool forms we know he has.
If I could vote for a second character, I would've voted Tama.
To me, Carrot still feels very bland, uninteresting, and minor.
Indeed, but she got everything else, would have liked for last strawhat to be more important and have some special background though.
.
I mean… Child of a Yonkou if that counts for anything lol
Wonder how much mileage ya'll gonna get out of nami face.
I'm going to assume it won't be a dead meme until the new year
Until the epilogue:ninja:
