Hey guys, sorry to barge in, but I'm thinking about watching this show and first wanna hear some opinions before I dive into it. It does have 80+ episodes after all, and I don't wanna start watching something that starts out awesome but … but at some point turns out to be like Bleach or something.
And AP has never mislead me concerning TV shows :D
Dexter

! A bit too obvious…Smells like a red herring. Fire investigator is serial killer arsonist...
But then again "blood splatter analyst likes to kill people in bloody ways" is core premise...
! That fire guy is creepy as hell, tho[hide]We thought Travis' professor was a red herring too last year because of its obviousness.[/hide]

And AP has never mislead me concerning TV shows :DThe show varies wildly from season to season. It can go from top tier to absolute trash. The quality of the season mostly depends on the how good the villain is. And while the main character is consistently interesting, the supporting cast is consistently shit and often used as filler (with some very few exceptions).
Season 1, 4 and 7 are really great. Season 2 and 3 are good. Season 5 and 6 are awful.

5 was kinda good. Not as good as 4, but better than snorefest of 3rd.
-
Season 1: Fantastic (Perfect season. Start of everything. You'll love it.)
Season 2: Okay (It's not amazing, but it's still fun and enjoyable.)
Season 3: Insanely Boring (I believe this was during the writer's strike, so this season is pretty shitty. Really boring. Dumb villains. Uninteresting plot.)
Season 4: Fantastic (The one season compared to the first as the best. One of the best villains. Terrifying. Just… amazing.)
Season 5: Okay (Most people hate it, but the build up after the events of Season 4 is wonderful.)
Season 6: Surprisingly Boring (Very predictable. It's not god awful, it's just bland. Except for the end of the season.)
Season 7: Pretty Damn Good So Far (Very good. Nothing surpassing Seasons 1 and 4, but very entertaining non-the-less.)It's a good show. Sadly, you're gonna have to push through Season 3 and Season 6, as both are important. Season 1 is a blast. If you're going to watch just one season, watch only that one. That season alone is just fantastic and concludes well enough for you to leave if you want to stop.

Thanks for the feedback!
I'll definitely check out season 1 then :D -
! i'm surprised Laguerta is still alive this long. She died in like the first books or something super early.
! while not saying it has to follow the books at all, just based on the books it shows that there is no reason to keep her alive for possible important plot points later on that the books may use that end up being crucial -
Season 4 wasn't perfect. Every storyline not related to Trinity was still awful. At least every plot in season 7 is interesting (except for Quinn's but that's par for the course and Nadia is hawt, so it's forgiven).
And Miguel >>> Lumen

Yeah, she died at the end of the first book by Brians hands (Dexters brother), whom is still alive and kicking in the books btw. But what I would really love, but sadly will NEVER happen, is that the serial killer from book 2 be in the tv series. That guy was sick. Cutting off all limbs and eyelids, groins, lips and you name it and placing them infront of a mirror in their dying moments. Grizzly. He even cut off Doakes hands, legs and tongue. That guy is like a cyborg now!

I'll definitely check out season 1 then :DLike any show, it has it's down points, but you're never going to want to stop watching it. It's straight up one of the best TV shows in the last decade, and certainly one of the top shows currently running on TV right now. But yeah, watch the first season - that's all it'll take to get you hooked.

Consider this a good reason to watch Dexter…

That was really lame…
I personally never got bored between Season 1 to 5. Season was the slowest, but I never wanted to quit or lost interest. Season 5, I kinda did for obvious story changing reasons, but the end of the season I was back on... and then they did even more changes that took me out. Season 6 was just... terrible.
Which really shows HOW amazing Season 7 is. Like previous has said before me, Season 7 is no Season 1 or 4.... but its probably third place.

Agreed but the thing is season 7 has not ended yet and since the last season's ending was #$@#$# outrageous, we can expect something good this time too which might push this season above 1 or 4 perhaps. They have to give a nice build up for the finale season 8 anyways
-
Or it could completely ruin a good season. Here's hoping we find out that Dexter is an alien!
-
season 7 will end with hannah killing dexter, and season 8 will revolve around her and deborah`s struggle
-

If this happens I'll quit sex
I would rather prefer Deb dying and Dex going mofo badass mode
-
I'd prefer Debra kills LaGuerta and Dex and Deb fuck over her corpse, Hannibal style.

Reasoning by Issak's death;
Everyone is wondering why Isaak Sirko took such a sharp change in character leading to his imminent death in Episode 9.
(in response to the premature death of Isaak)
@lawdog1244 sometimes actors schedules affect story. Just the way things happen. But I stand by how he died & what it meant to Dexter. #Thor - 11:53 PM - 26 Nov 12
According to Ray Stevenson's (AKA Isaak Sirko) filmography he has recently completed filming for G.I. Joe (scheduled 2013; possibly during Dexter's filming), and is currently filming for Thor (scheduled 2013).
Quite a shame the writers had to shorten his role in Season 7 to fit into his scheduling, but I hope this answers questions of the show's choice to blatantly kill off a great antagonist. -
-
Isaak's death was done well and it was a reasonable resolution to his character arc. The problem is it came too quickly. He's been hell bent on getting revenge for his lover saying more than once how he didn't care if it cost him his life. Then two badass assassins were sent after him and all of a sudden it's "Oh shit, this might actually get me killed. Erm truce Dexter?" lol
-
Damn it Thor! This season would have been kickass if Isaac had continued till the end of the season.
The fact that he is gay would have probably been revealed at the end of the season to provide an analogy of the attraction between Dex and Hannah with the reason being something this society doesn't accept - homosexuality in Isaac's case and well.. killing people in Dex's case. So we can assume that Hannah will die soon like Isaac's partner but Dex will survive contradicting Isaac's belief and will give a finale explanation in the final episode on how he got over it as usual
-
My god, this entire season has just been… "Hey! Here's a major plot problem that could end in something horrible!" "Oh wait... That problem has been solved with few casualties. All good!"
Not that I think that's entirely a bad thing.
[hide]Can't believe the Quinn and Nadia thing ended so fucking well. It was just, "Hey! Asshole is dead, Nadia is safe, Quinn is off the hook, and it'll probably never be mentioned again".
And holy fuck, at Laguerta figuring out Dexter's connection to the cabin! WOW! Shocked she hasn't considered the possibility of Debra knowing and trying to cover it up.
Major leap in this episode, though, with Dexter realizing the choices he can make. I hate to say it, but I'm liking the new Dexter who kills because he wants to.
Started to like Hannah on today's episode. Of course, this would be the episode where Debra would make absolutely sure to bust her ass.
There's a part of me that feels like this entire season has died down, but really, it's still heating up![/hide]
TWO MORE EPISODES!
-
! Hey, I was right about the arsonist! Who, by the way, can mention that some creepy guy was trying to kill him.
And now Dexter is just righteous serial killer. He is kinda started to act like people he was killing the whole time.
Indeed, the love makes you evil and crazy. -
! Not sure I like new Dexter. I always liked the thought that he killed people because of a psychological need. I'm not really sure the twist that he killed them because he wanted to all along makes much sense continutiy wise. Throughout the series, we've always gotten the impression that it was more of a psychological addiction rather than just because he wanted to.
! Can't believe they tied the Quinn subplot so neatly. Can't the fucker just die? I've genuinely grown to like Hannah though.
! Really excited for the last two episodes. This season has been just wonderful, can't wait for the climax! -
This was a really bad episode. Bring back Isaak.

Is deb dead yet?

! Really excited for the last two episodes. This season has been just wonderful, can't wait for the climax! This was indeed a psychological addiction but from every season he seems to be learning more about himself from certain people around him. It makes him realize that he is still capable of controlling what he does. Or maybe this is one of those things that he thinks he could do but at the end of the season he realizes that this idea won't work out and he is still inhuman in ways beyond normal people's understanding
-
Yeah, I'm not too sure on the whole "new" Dexter thing, either. The "code" made him different that other serial killers he has encountered - it gave him more of a justified feel, the serial killer of serial killers. But now that might all be out the window..
As for LaGuerta, if she figures it out, it's going to be pretty obvious I think that Deb has been helping cover up. She's been too damn suspicious - she's just not as good of a liar as Dex is. I'll go back on what I just said and say.. I hope Dex kills LaGuerta.. haha.
-
I hope Deb kills Laguerta and fuc…oh, wait, I've said this already.

This development could be an effort to prepare the audience for Dexter´s downfall. I mean, the guy has killed so many over the last 6 seasons but you could still sympathize with him as protagonist but if he loses his code and starts murdering people for personal gains, then this sympathy will be gone and the audience could cope better with his death/arrest.

That's my exact issue with it. Dexter can't stay unscathed forever. Why can't the audience feel the full blow? Demoralizing him and THEN killing/arresting him just feels lazy to me. Like treating your audience like they can't handle something going wrong.
-
We already knew Dexter was a bad person. The writers don't need to lead us by the hand.
-
We all know that Dexter believes the code has saved him the entire time, but we also know that he was doomed since the start with the blood slide. But it should be interesting to see Dexter believe his downfall is because of him abanding his code.
-
I don't even want to bother talking about the actual episode after seeing THAT preview.
-
! Holy … I sincerely hope that was just a flashback. But the episode name as "Surprise motherfucker" could very well point to the return of yours truly.... !!!
-
! He doesn't look like a cyborg though:ninja:
-
This episode was fantastic. That finale looks godly. If it delivers on its potential, this could very well be the best season EVAAARRR!!!
-
Here's my guesses;
! The arresting scene from the preview is a day dream, nightmare. The Doakes bit could be flash back we never seen before, a dark passenger bit, or just a flash back cut scene thrown in to heighten the tensioln of the preview.

And I did Spoilers instead of Spoiler. I fixed in mine a bit a go.

Wait. Both tags work? That's kinda weird, haha!

! Anyone else think that Deb may have drugged herself like that?
Either way Doakes in that preview got me good, at most he'll be a whim of Dexters mind like Dexters dad or Brian though. -
! Anyone else think that Deb may have drugged herself like that?
Either way Doakes in that preview got me good, at most he'll be a whim of Dexters mind like Dexters dad or Brian though.! That's the popular theory at the moment, for both.
! Another Theory I have is that the Dexter trying to get on a plane scene from episode 1 is actually Dexter running in this episode, bookending the season. -
! I could have swore it was clear that it was when he went to get Vincent given that they pretty much replayed the scene.
-
! I could have swore it was clear that it was when he went to get Vincent given that they pretty much replayed the scene.
! Yep that was solved already.
! It was pretty smart of La Guerta to trap Dexter that way and I would be disappointed if Dexter getting arrested ends up as a bad dream of some sort. It was also kinda lame how the guy who was released from the prison was tailed by a cop the whole time and he missed Dexter twice or at least the first time when he met him out in the open!
! In the preview, Dex said something like he doesn't want Deb to take the blame. Not very sure which blame he was referring to. And the Doakes scene was just to get the audience go crazy I guess. He would have to be in OP universe to survive a gas explosion in an enclosed house standing almost a meter away -

Taking the blame probably is referring to the fact that she kept it hidden that her brother was a notorious serial killer lol
-
! Oh, Doakes is dead. That was definitely a flashback/memory of some sort. As for the water bottle, I had that thought too… would Debra have done it to herself? I really don't think so though. She would have done it in her house, or somewhere where she wouldn't of had the chance to die - just black out and maybe hurt herself.
! I'm still surprised Dexter fell for that. I didn't think that LaGuerta had anything to do with the guys release, BUT, with Dexter knowing LaGuerta was suspecting him, and knew about his past (along with the other old guy whose name I can't remember), I was really surprised he was going to go after his mother's killer right then and so soon. Seemed like a dumb move.
! As for the "arrest" clip, I didn't immediately imagine it to be a dream or thought, but it very well could be. I feel something it would be justifiable though.. Dexter has been so sloppy compared to his earlier seasons self and has been letting his job and personal life overlap way to much (dating Hanna McKay being a HUGE WTF, along with losing the bloodslide and not going back for it, and letting Deb find out in the first place). -

! We can't blame him for some of the sloppiness either. He actually had quite some items in his plate this season. His sister catches him killing somebody (which he could have probably avoided by not killing Travis in the church but it kinda goes against his ritual), a gangster was out to get him for sometime (unfortunate!), a cop is digging on his past(LaGuerta was personally taking care of the blood slide.. would be very difficult for him to get rid of it but yeah its DEXTER he could have tried perhaps), somebody who understands his feelings is at last around (true goof up from his side) and finally the guy who was responsible for the trauma that he suffered in his childhood was almost within reach(probably all the shit that hes been through, he really needed to kill someone and this option sounded juicy enough that he did not bother to check out whether its a trap). He couldn't have possibly handled everything clean although some things he could have avoided
! The only question is, will there be a massive cliffhanger in this season's finale to be carried over to the final season. It could possibly be either Dex escaping from the cops and the final season could be a massive man hunt or a controversial kill (La Guerta) that screws him up for the next season or probably the one I prefer, Deb just randomly dies! -
Well that was quick.
-
I know my feelings are probably unpopular but…
[hide]-I've always liked LaGuerta, even at her worst. Even through everything she did this season. She may have been a bitch, but she was fierce and determined. And I loved that about her. So I was sad to see her go.
-This season has really made me realize how much Debra is probably my favorite character in this series. I felt so awful after everything. When she hugged LaGuerta after the gun shot, I felt so bad. Poor Deb. Jennifer Carpenter better get every fucking award.[/hide]
