"Eating" a Devil Fruit

What exactly constitutes "eating" a Devil Fruit? We've seen inanimate objects eat them, and it's barely been explained. I can understand an animal eating a Devil Fruit, but besides that, they don't seem too leniant.

For all we know, if a Devil Fruit falls from the tree, the ground has eaten it. What if it got under you fingernails? Would you aquire powers? What about the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which was kept in a box? Technically, the box has "eaten" the Gomu Gomu no Mi, so why didn't it turn into a rubber box?

Begabank made some special way of fusing them with inanimate objects. People eat it. I think, if you rammed a fruit down the barrel of a gun, it wouldn't work and the juice gets everywhere. Then if you want to eat it, it tastes like shotgun.

Im rather sure that the box hasn't "eaten" the devil fruit just beacuse the box contains it. I think we will have an explanation about this invention pretty soon.
I imagine something similiar to a phone snail,a snail eats and part the devil fruit into tiny pieces and then inject it into the object…

if you have noticed, the only type of fruit that acquired an inanimate object has been the zoan type, i may be wrong, but i think that the object don't "eat" the fruit, but the fruit devil's "eat" the object.

unless Oda indicates the opposite with another type of fruit in an object.:ninja:

Well, it's my theory that the eater of a Devil Fruit absorbs the powers, and they cannot be removed, even in death.

Plus, most theories usually turn out to be false, so….

Chapter 433. He's the foremost Marine scientist in the world. He discovered how Devil Fruits work and how to apply their properties to objects. Along with the Gorosei, I think he'll be the final villian or create the final villian, like Dr. Gero created Cell in DBZ.

He also seems to have connections to Nami or Franky, but that's more implied than anything. For all we know, he could have been Sanji's barber when he was a baby.

You're prolly right and octogon prolly meant by the regowth that when the df user dies also his life signal dissapears and if the fruit emits its own signal the df tree(s) sence it and grow a new fruit of the same power…(this is just hypothesis about the life signal)

I just assumed he found a way to extract the 'power' from the fruit and then implant it into the object, although the theory of submerging it in water that has chopped up devil fruit in it makes a lot of sense to me.

it says that he figured out how devils fruits transfer their powers, and then inveted the method for objects to eat devils fruit. He Also came up with the idea to cover the bottom of the ships in seastone.

Yup, Oda said so himself. The DF's power is transferred on the first bite, so nobody else can have that power afterward, unless, I assume, the person who ate it dies.

Nope, it says the first bite and the powers transfer.

So, if two people bit at the same time, maybe the devil would fuse them together and they'd be some freakish siamese twin with a devil fruit power.

Speaking of good powers to obtain, I think it would suck to get a really bad Devil Fruit. Like… the power to spit up gasoline. That power would blow so much. And just think; no more. You're stuck with it. Not only can you not change it, but you're stuck with it for the rest of your life.
