Hey, you're right Waffles. I never noticed that.
Well, I guess us Canadians gotta wait till April then.

Oh and they translated Navy as "Marines" bleg.
Instead of
"The navy is coming!"
"The marines are coming"
Well, I honestly prefer it that way. It's "Navy" in the subtitles in the Japanese version. That's fine. But for navy to be spoken in English with the flags saying Marines in English would be kinda wierd. And casual watchers or whoever will think "WTF?" when they say "The Navy are coming!" and then a big fat Marine flag appears.

I agree. Sub for authenticity, dub for less confusion.
Ohh, guys, just a suggestion.
Make sure that you atleast watch Pell's "death" with the Japanese audio on.
For some reason the Funi dub failed to capture the intensity of that scene..

It's really not all that confusing to figure out
Orginization: Navy
Soldier: Marine
Though you have a point about the Flags on the ships, that would make it awkward, but the uniforms on the Marines make sense. I just before them using all three, Navy, Navel, and Marine when they are needed.

It didn't fail to capture anything. It's like you watch things over and over again just to look for some non-problem thing to complain about.
It didn't fail to capture anything.
It did fail.. as in Pell's voice wasn't nearly as intense. (and I don't mean the scene as a whole was a "failure", It's just that Pell's voice failed to capture the drama of the original)
Sounded like he was going for a joy ride. I suggest that you listen to both.
Yeah, 'cause I obviously didn't listen to both, right? :getlost:
It may not sound the same, but the meaning behind it is still the same, right?
Goddamnit, is it universal among fandom to complain about even the littlest things? Does it really matter if the English dub isn't exactly as good as the Japanese one, especially when it's usually so expected that it's extremely minor and especially when the imperfections are so subtle they're not worth mentioning? And another note, can we please stop dwelling on translations, which is the one thing I have to skip pages and pages of when I'm on this forum? Sorry I blew a fuse there, I just wanted to get that out of the way.
I hadn't heard the Japanese version, but Pell's deliver did seem a bit off to me. But you know what?
I DON'T CARE.

No, it's just Lobster being himself.
I wasn't complaining. I was merely stating that the Japanese VA for Pell displayed a greater amount of emotion, thus making the scene more dramatic.
Are you saying that you disagree with this claim?

No, I'm just saying that you're just grasping for straws here.
Nope. Just pointing out something I noticed, on a discussion forum.
No need to turn it into serious business.
God forbid Mato is not exactly like the fansubs or whatever.
Watched my movie quite a bit ago.
My opinion. Dub > Japanese.
And I'll stick to it for this movie.
-Zera
Alot of things were Either Or for me
-I enjoyed the Luffy vs. Vivi fight better in the Funi dub, for certain
-The Pell explosion scene was better in the Japanese version of course (no comparison)
-Sanji vs. Bon Kurei was better in the Funi dub (Sanji's cool echo effects)
-As much as I loved Caitlin Glass' Vivi "Please Stop Fighting" yell, it still wasn't as impactful as the Japanese version.
Almost, but not quite. I still loved it though
-Bon Clay on the ship was better in the Funi dub
-Japanese Crocodile sounded sooo much more insane at times (which I love) Most apparent on the "Who the h3ll do you think I am!?" line
-Vivi racing into the city on Karue was better in the Funi version
-Chaka's attack on Crocodile was a heck of alot better in the Japanese version
-Miss Father's Day was alot funnier in the Funi dub
-Kozah (most specifically his scream with Vivi, when Crocodile attacks him) was clearly better in the Japanese version
That's about all that sticks out though.
Oh, hey, mine came in the mail just now.
I forgot we even pre-ordered this. XD watches
I find it odd that anytime someone in this forum even mentions preferring one thing or another, or saying they personally didn't care for a certain scene in the dub, a bunch of you people assume they're complaining.
Lobster just pointed out what he thought was good/bad, no need to jump down his throat (which I've noticed seems to be a favored pastime around here).
Wow, this is sad. It sounds like a shitty movie. Oh well.
Was New World Symphony kept…?
considering its OUR composers,Dvořáks,masterpiece, its being left out annoys me to hell.

You're right. I apologize.
Just watched the movie again. I really enjoy this movie, which kinda shames me cause Lobster has the biggest raging boner for it imaginable. I understand all the negativity to the movie, but I guess I'm just easily entertained.
Also, I'm beginning to wonder if I'll really watch it in Japanese, same for the One Piece DVD sets…I'm just finding myself enjoying the dub a lot more than I can the Japanese.
this is kinda off topic but i figured it would be a good place to ask, does anyone know where i can download movies 1-7, subbed of course? thanks
Well, your wrong. Not the best place to ask.
Yep, FUNi will release them eventually anyways. I don't plan to watch any of the movies anymore cause FUNi's gonna release them eventually. I can't say I wont watch the anime episodes tho, cause that's still pretty damn far away.

The same goes for me. I don't really know if I'll watch the DVDs in Japanese when they come out, considering I've seen everything OP up to date in Japanese already. The main purchase points for me would be the uncut video, & the new English dub. Which, if Movie 8 is any indication, will be even more fantastic then what we're already seeing on TV.
And yes, I too thought this movie was better dubbed. And that's a big statement, considering I've watched all of OP for the last 2 years and I adore the Japanese cast.
Well, your wrong. Not the best place to ask.
well maybe if i had said "best" you would be right, instead you decided make up words to make yourself look more funny, sorry kid you just look like an ass…but thanks for the response, i'll continue searching on my own
Don't worry, you'll get over it.
In any case, just ask elsewhere.

thanks i appreciate the vote of confidence
more on topic, i got the movie 8 dvd and decided to watch it in japanese, while i have watched it all in japanese already(the tv show that is), i watched it all on my crappy computer screen, so watching it on a big tv with the japenese voices i am used to and in good quality was really nice
Just watched this last night. The dub voices are MUCH better, although I didn't like Kohza's (too high pitched) and Kurei's was a bit over the top with the British Accent. I do like how they kept Okama Kempo (as Cross-dressing Kempo). Saul's voice didn't seem deep enough for a giant, though, but it was passable. Uso-Cho Hammer Shooting Star sounded too long-winded, they should've just used "Uso-Cho Hammer Comet".
Also, Crocodile's pun about Lizards in the desert was a bit much.
Also, I know she calls him Tony in the Japanese Anime/Manga too ( I think…), but it just made me cringe when she said that.
I got the movie on its first day. I saw someone else get it, and gave him a mental thumbs up.
The movie was pretty good, but I can really see where the hate comes from. Certain scenes come from nowhere, (Crocodile attempting to stop Vivi and the Strawhats.) and battles being very short. (Why have the 5-ton hammer if they aren't going to put it in the movie?) But, it gets a passing grade from me. Gum-Gum Storm FTW.
Its all because that how the japanese movie was,
but it was stil pretty good even though it was all chopped up.
@Fire Fist:

And this is the kinda weeaboo stuff people talk about. Same thing, but in a language outside Japanese it's "cringe worthy".
I didn't think that it was cringe worthy at all. Some you all are just eager to cringe.
She just called him "Tony". It's not like she said "Tony-kun", like in the Japanese version..
It was fine
Haha, I've watched the movie at least 4 times.
I love the dub voices now. They don't seem unnatural.
I'm watching the movie for the 5th time at the moment. But this time I'm watching it for the first time in Japanesse.
Wow, I've only seen it once.
I enjoyed the movie, but I must say I liked some of the ones with their own plots a little better. Though I don't think is was as bad as some people said it was.
lol I've already watched the movie about seven times. Including watching it in theatres. I can only hope a lot of people go out and buy this DVD. Not that anyone should feel pressured to, I apoligize for that stupid arguement earlier. But I really do hope that the sales for this movie are well, for only obvious reasons.^^
One question.
Did they remake the pillow fight?
No. It basically starts at Yuba and then skips over Rainbase.
Nope. It starts as a flashback. Then it goes to the ship with Bon Kurei. Then to Yuba.
I really wish that they had kept Rain Base though..
is this like the anime episods or a new story??
It's a remake of the Alabasta story from the tv series. New animation and stuff, but it's just an abridged version of Alabasta.
I'm glad the Robin flashback was in there. This movie was made and released around Water7 and we got to see a lil' bit of what we haven't seen, where Robin was, what she was thinking and how she made her choice before joining Luffy's crew. There had to be at least SOMETHING that this remake had that the series' didn't.
Ok question, has anybody else experienced problems with the disc? My movie kept losing the picture, like 5 times, during the movie. Mainly during the SH fight scenes. Is this an individual disc problem or a widespread issue? Could anybody PM me with what I should do?
My disc is perfect. I've played it on both my TV and computer several times.
My disc froze the first time I watched it on my TV. Ironically is was right when Kozah got stepped on by Crocodile, and he screams with blood flying out of his mouth.. (i kid you not)
It stopped for about 8 seconds, an I was like o_o I.. don't remember it pausing for that long..
