Uh, let's see. Al revived Ed's body in full (limbs and all) with the philosophers' stone & his soul, after Ed was killed by Envy. So once Ed came to, he was able to sacrifice his entire body to ressurect Al's body and soul, which were both trapped inside the gate.
After that Ed's soul &… body? passed through the gate & arrived back in our world, in Munich this time with Hohenheim of light. As for the homunculus, Lust & Sloth died, wrath obviously survived and Winry fitted him with a Automail, Pride was killed by the awesome Roy Mustang. Now Gluttony & Dante are mystery, we might find out what happened to both of them in the movie, also did Envy pass through the gate successfully? the new trailer points to yes.
So as of now, Ed is in our world in the 1920's (World War II) with his father & Al is still in the Fullmetal world researching how to get Edward back, and Ed is now travelling around Europe researching space travel, as means to get back to Al. :P
Heh, the new movie which comes out soon, should clear up any loose ends, hopefully.
Um, I don't think World War II was in the 1920s. 20s was the aftermath of WWI.
This is one reason I like the manga. It's explaining things better, and is far from over so it has more time to develop these plot points. (I somehow doubt it'll get into any sort of "other world" thing apart from the world of the gate)
Uh, yeh I actually meant the 1920's (just not WWII). C'mon I just attempted to explain the ending of FMA in a few short paragraphs, I was bound to mess something up. :P
Hey, it's only an extremely complicated scientific process! Pansy! :P
Uhm… Unless the movie will make Al have his metal body again, I'm pretty sure it's not going to tie up lose ends at all...
And speaking of FMA, what's the latested translated chapter? Last I checked there was one translated like every 2 months, and the latest was 44... ;_;
45 was released by evil-genius a while ago. 46 is coming out on the 12th.
(why would Al have to have his metal body again?)
He's shown in the trailer with his normal present body, and again with his armor, so it's sort of a mystery. But from my understanding this movie isn't fluff, it's connected strongly to the anime.
Oh thank god. and thanks for da info jewbagel.
where ist he trailer?
A dream. A flashback. Reason can be one of those things.

its here http://www.fullmetal-alchemist.com/index.php its somewhere on the first page. Check out al's new look. Look familiar ?
the story of the movie doesn't take place after the anime serie but WHILE the anime serie. it's like the OP movies. that's why al is the fullmetal alchemist. ah, no, wait, it's the small fry behind him who is the fullmetal alchemist, ah ah ah
btw, that's why al's in the armor.
do you think a 2nd season will ever take place? and do you think it'd be e good idea?
i personnaly don't think so. the end was great, and self-sufficient, but who knows what can happen…
ps: i'm really sorry to suck in doing beautiful, meaningful sentencies. gomen, english's not my native tongue...

Stripped of his alchemical powers, he has been all this time researching rocketry together with Alphonse Heiderich, a young man with a lot of resemblances to his own brother, hoping to one day find a way back home. The more he finds his efforts so far had proven fruitless, more desperate he becomes. One day he hears that the Thule Society, an occultistic group strongly tied to the Nazi Party, discovered what could be a clue to the location of the legendary, mystical place called "Shambala", and Edward's hopes get renewed. Meanwhile, in his own world, Alphonse, his brother, ventures deeper into the study of alchemy in search for a way to bring him back."
The movie does take place after the series and it's heavily interconnected with the events at the end of the anime, so it's nothing like the One Piece movies. It's a continuation of Studio Bones' version of the series.

Interesting.. the events in the manga really differ form the anime then. I have read the manga but not seen the entire anime series.
Anyone here has read the manga?
i think glatony and dante killed each other but thanks for your help i think i understood it.
Wait, so the movie takes place before the ending of the anime? If so, I think they will make an OVA continuing the anime, and if not, they will just leave it as is.
It's after the events of the anime, after guys.

Dream sequence maybe, flashback seems unlikely from the first trailer. It seems like this castle in the middle of the ocean, seems to a limbo point between the FMA world & our world. So that could be a convenient place for the brothers to reunite?! :P
who was envy suppose to be, i didnt understand
The Hoenheim of Light created Envy through a failed human transmutation, and left him and Dante for three or four hundred years, when he wandered off.
So Envy felt like Hoenheim was the father who abandoned him, so that explains the built up hatred for him, and the envious feelings toward Ed & Al, Hoenheim's real sons.
Anyone has seen both the manga and anime to tell me some major story difference between the two? I am enjoying the anime now where Hoenheim is revealed to be a monster (bakemono). [Scan]
Trying to get the anime but all I get is lousy speed.
download it from boxtorrent its good speed if you have a good connection
I was trying to get it from anime-mx (since it is out on DVD, might as well get the dvd-rips ;) ) and they don't have BTs! <_<
boxtorrent is very good try it
Well… it's kind of hard to tell you how the stories differ (since they are now so different to even compare) but here are a few bullet points:
(The first 25 episodes are 15 chapters are about the same...)
Serious spoilers for both, I don't know how much you want to know so I just didn't give away what happens in the end:
-The "evil doer" in the anime is an old hag called Dante, an alchemist who used to be in love with Hoenheim.
-In the anime the gate leads to "our world". In the manga we don't know really know what it's true purpose is.
-Hoenheim in the manga, as you posted, called himself a monster but we don't know yet what he means. In the anime he's a human that used the stone to extent his own life (with Dante) by switching bodies when they begin to rot.
-Homunculus are created by failed HT and are fed the Philosophers stone by Dante in the anime. The manga a mysterious man they call "Father", creates them.
-The führer (Wraith in the manga) -> Pride in the anime, Wraith is a different failed HT (Izumi's child). Sloth is Trisha.
-In the anime, the Elric brothers brought back their mother (who was turned into the homunculus "Sloth" by Dante), in the manga we just learned that they didn't bring back their mother, that the creature they saw was something (someone?) else. Also we haven't met Sloth or Pride in the manga yet.
-Mustang was forced to kill Winry's parents under orders in the anime. We assume Scar does it in the manga.
-Mustang now has an eyepatch in the anime
-I was just reminded by another thread, the reasons for Ed being short are different
Uh…yeah. Then there's the movie which really looks bizarre but I won't get into that. Some of those might be mixed up, I haven't watched the anime in ages. The manga really is better in my opinion, but give the anime a shot if you ever download it.
From what I hear, the anime is a tad better than the Manga, to some people
It is an above average anime to me, but I didn't like some of the changes they did. I just prefer Arakawa's original story and characters. Personal preferences differ of course.
Actually, lots of people say that the Manga is a lot better than the Anime.
Go here Anime Info
Anyone have any idea where i can get the Manga from.
There's a bot on IRCHighway that has every chapter.

Thanks for the Info.
The movie is supposed to tie up the show's loose ends, which means that there will not be a second season, thank goodness. I don't think that I can sit through anymore filler arcs or characters and rewrites. The fake Elric brothers, Fifth Lab, and Pride/Wrath switch made me want to punch a kitten.
I honestly don't understand why some people hate FMA the anime. How could they,
The Story is very unique (Touching and painful at times).
The OST Rocks. :P
Characters are likable.
Superd Animation (Did you see opening 4, i believe it's called Rewrite/Riraito)
Maybe the manga may be better (I've not read it so i can't tell), but surely the anime deserves it equal amount of praises. ;)
Hey, I never said I HATED it, right? I just didn't like the fact that the show wildly strayed from the manga at times. In my eyes, that diluted the overall impact it had on me. I have no complaints about the animation or voicework; I agree that both were top notch. But that doesn't affect story.
Alright, thanks for the info Jewbangel :D
Now, I would prefer the manga then since it sounds more "original". XD
Manga Discussion:
What do you think Winry will do now that she has found out that scar is the murderer of her parents? It was really sad to see her sad face at the end of chap 46.
Argh, it's greatly pissing me off that evil genius dropped FMA
That means no one's doing it now (along with Death Note)
I may have to start a scanlation team myself soon if I have to
I heard that E-G still has all the staff, just that Orochimaru (the main dude) has no time for so many projects, so they might be doing a joint FMA project with someone else. Either way, someone will pick it up, even if it's just people from that LJ group doing it. I wouldn't worry about it.
(Thank god they didn't drop Berserk)
There's someone doing the translations. It's a livejournal group and requires that you join their group.
I have seen the anime, and loved it. It really impacted me, between the extremely twisted story, the characters, and the kick ass music.
I'm interested in the reading the manga, but unfortunately, I do not have the time right now to sit at my computer and read scanslations (I'm even falling behind in One Piece ;_;) But the first volume is coming out in english soon, and once the summer comes, I'll probably have more time to read scanslations. Does anyone know where I can download the chapters in zips, since I'd like to get them before I'm back on dial-up.
The one thing that saddens me about this series, which I know happens in both the anime and manga is (SPOILER, highlight to read) the death of Maes Hughes. I love him so much as a character. He's funny, and sort of has a Sanji-like element to him, but at the same time, he's a loving father and husband, a loyal friend, and a badass when need be! Ugh, I miss him so much.
For IRC, I provided a packlist for a bot somewhere up above, but I just remembered a site that has almost all the chapters for http "viewing", it'd be pretty tedious to download them that way though… and yeah, that certain event was incredibly sad :(
@StrawHatLuffy: (Manga spoiler) I think someone will stop her from shooting Scar, plus I think he could dodge the bullet, since he managed to dodge Riza's good shot early in the series. I'm not completely sold that Scar DID kill them… but we'll see, this should be some great character developement for Winry either way
Yea, I kind of like Winry too… But perhaps ater this, Scar will help them against the Homunculus..
Yea when huges was attacked, I was so worried about him and well sadly he had to die. It was pretty sad and I admit I liked him, esp for his boasting about his wife and daughter XD It was sad to see Mustang cry.
I cried when Hughes died and when that guy's daughter died. I can't remember her frickin name, she died in like epiosde 5 or 6. Scar killed her, she was a chimera. It was so sad
The whole Flame Alchemist episode though… quite superb
A whole episode dedicated to Col. Roy Mustang and his subordinates. Heh I laughed so hard when Havok was denied by Alexander's Sister. And him imaging what she looked like?! Funniest thing i've seen in a long long time
Sadly, in the manga, Havoc lost the use of his legs in one of the fights against the homuculis and I think Mustang is now trying to get the use of Havoc's legs back, perhaps via means of the stone?
We seriously need spoiler tags

Nina was the young girls name, and yes that was quite disturbing…
Episode 13 and 37 are my favourites, all based on the manga gaiden gags
I love Arakawa-sensei so much.
I've got a great site (though i haven't attemped to download FMA yet, still busy with One Piece)
Go here: Direct Manga
It comes in Zips, it has One Piece too
StrawHatLuffy was the first person i notified. :D
Uhm… Hi, Aint read FMA manga in yonks, I was wondering if anyone had working links to Chapter 46 and 47?
Directmanga aint working, and the irc channel with it has 233 qeus.
I'm ressurecting this thread from the grave XD!
Yeah, FMA's been my main obsession lately. I've made a few costumes for it, if you're interested in seeing, they're up in the General Cosplay thread.
I've also made an FMA AMV that was in the Anime Next AMV contest. It was two votes away from winning Best Drama….but the real compliment was when I heard from Vic Mignogna (Ed in English) that Caitlin Glass (Winry) and Travis Willingham (Roy) were really moved by the video. I can't believe that they actually liked it o.o* To be honest I can't believe it got as nice a reaction as it did. It still has a lot of bugs. I'm considering remaking it to a different version of the song, I think I can improve on it. I also can't wait for the rest of the DVDs to be released...so I can remake it without the god damn subtitle blocks. But anyway...it's up here:
It is Hughes-centric, but also deals with Ed and Roy. It has major spoilers for episode 25 (and manga chapter 15) If you're not on AMV.org and want to see it, PM me, I'll link you to where you can get otherwise. (Trying to preserve bandwidth, so I don't want to widely distribute that link.) In any case, despite its flaws, I hope you guys enjoy.
Just thought that we could use some more differences between the manga and anime.
Spoilers:Highlight to read
The list goes on.
